It’s a common technique in flamenco guitar. You can spread your fingers as your strum down and get an nice effect :)

Ye it's this funny thing where rock players all are good with tapping, sweep picking, alternate picking, economy picking, and are the ones that discover Mark. Yet in flamenco the entire playstyle is drenched with the "rasguedo" technique and this is just the tip of the iceberg what you can do with it

OMG. That's how he did it. Middle finger. Wow. I got the finger picking and the solos down years ago, even the double stop vibrato, blocking my right hand against the trem bridge for double stop bends - but I could never get the strumming. No way to power through the rhythm without being too heavy and slow. Hours watching the old grey whistle test slowed down. So simple but genius. It was probably done without thought. Just natural for Mark.

@@roman-feelguitar I meant the upstroke of the index finger, followed by the middle finger. Is that considered a downstroke, because it goes from the high e to the low e? I’m not sure, but either way, that’s what I was referring to

It’s by far the greatest guitar riff/progression ever written. Nothing hits harder than Sultans. Literally nothing. Not whole lotta love. Not Hey Joe. Not Pride and Joy, not Thunderstruck, not master of puppets. Not even eruption. Sultans literally chord progression and feel defines the feeling of a late September driving or the day to day life of going to and from work. It’s INSANE.
