I genuinely don't think that we, young people in our 20s and 30s, can even get close to understanding what it was to live in the 70s/80s. Must have been incredible!
And the sixties-it really was.
It was truly incredible starting in the mid sixties with new songs coming out almost daily. The creativity, skill, and variety we Immersed ourselves in may never be heard again. I’m 75 now but remember the thrill of hearing these bands as an 18 year old. We were truly blessed.
Yes it was but the music industry was entirely different. No streaming, no internet, no phones. We listen to radio and bought the music we liked. Great bands rose to.the top, unlike today where they're buried within the millions online. I bought their album as soon as it was released and srill have it.

I love Dire Straits, best band that ever existed.
Mark is literally exploding with musical creativity. He barely plays any of the iconic licks from the record version. Instead he “simply” creates new ones, seemingly on the fly, and they are just as great. And what a great band he has behind him. They are all so into it, the energy is off the charts!

I listen to all the 80’s live versions of sultans, he plays amazingly so does the entire band in all I have seen with this ending. Epic. Shame they don’t make music this gen like this anymore

Hardly anyone recognises the pure brilliance of Pick Withers , everything revolves around him. Just another amazing musician, along with every other person on stage. Unfortunately for all the youngsters watching this, music like this has gone. Just so thankfully that we can enjoy music like this on UA-cam

I've had that hope since the late 80s when I first saw it on Channel 4. That hope has dwindled over the years but these clips have got it back up again!

People say that the best version of SOS is Alchemy but the choice is very, very difficult. Live in '79. Alchemy, Wembley Arena 85, Basel 92, Nimes 92 and other versions from OES tour with great MK's improvisations and extrabit on the final solo and so on. Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits always played in different ways, added new music parts, new arrangement, new instruments, new musicians and Mark Knopfler improvised his solos every time, in every gigs with different guitars (Strato, Schecter, Pensa Suhr MK1). Dire Straits are wonderful and pure musicians in a league of their own.
LIVE Vaison 1996/08/03 from Knopfler's solo tour. Not many heard that version, but this one is different too.

100% agree, as I've gone back and listened to all of the iconic bands. Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac have stuck out the most. They've got it all. Checked all the boxes. Songs, Albums, creativity, story telling, skill, all of it. You name it They've got it.

To maintain a level of time and coherence and subtilities and go full on as a band, as a unit, as what - 8 musicians on stage - with such an ease is nothing short of phenomenal.
It's fun to watch and listen to music before than today's generations of musicians.
*One of those rare songs that broke the genre barrier. It didn't matter if you were a rocker, country fan, rap fan, etc. Everyone liked this song.*
