    I made this hat it came out nice. I had to do 38 rows for it to fit my head. I know everyone's tension is different. So dont be afraid to add or take away rows for it to be the right fit. I kept wrapping it around my head to see if it went almost completely around but I left room for it to stretch.

    So I found this on accident and im so freaking glad I did!! It's so easy. However, the bernat blanket yarn I'm using is not as chunky as yours. So I've noticed with mine, if I want a floppy, I have to add some stitches. And in order to fit my head or even my daughter's, I have to almost double the rows. However, it turned out great!! @@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid Oh goodness! I use all kinds of wool and the last hat I just crocheted was my own hand spun yarn...double ply with some roving a friend gave me. Usually I spin with the roving I make myself as well from raw fleeces..my favorites are Merino wool, Icelandic and Alpaca...of course I sometimes find a score on Cashmere and baby Mohair which I also love. Thank you so much for kind compliment! I learned when I was sent a 17 lb raw fleece in the mail from a Suffolk sheep that had not been sheared in 3 years. The sheep looked like a marshmellow. The farmer had taken them in to help out someone who couldn't afford to keep them for a while. The first thing she did was have them sheared. As it is a meat sheep, the wool is not soft, was free costing only the postage but great for slippers etc...I didn't know how to spin or to clean it, much less to skirt it. So I processed nearly the whole thing into a cotton looking fiber....used a hand spindle for spinning the entire thing. After that, I used a hand spindle for 2 years before buying a display antique spinning wheel dated in the 1880s. A 50 year display wheel.... it needed several repairs I did myself to begin spinning again and it has now spun hundreds of skeins! I leaned to clean, card, spin and so much on UA-cam!

    The formula that worked for me when I measured the circumference of my head (21.25 in.) ...my starting chain was 32 chains and 28 rows. The fit turned out smug but it also fit over my ears ..with a turned up brim of about 3.5 in. Next time I will do less starting chains for the height as it was too tall for me. Perhaps 28 chains will work next time...as I’d rather not have much of a slouch..I also use faux fur pompoms.

    Thank you for doing this tutorial!! I also read where you suggested 28 to 30 stitches for a larger adult hat. I am agree with is larger number. I started with the 25 chains and then measured it by putting it around my head but it wasn't long enough. I then added up to 30 stitches and remeasured. I am working on this hat with the self striping Bernat Blanket yarn because it is what I had on hand.

    • @marina_m11
      @marina_m11 5 років тому +1

      Tammy I would use the 8 mm in that case. 10 mm would make your hat huge. Either way, your numbers of chains & rows will be different than hers if you go up or down a size
