It was discovered way before 2004 dude, I heard about Apophis in the 90's...also it may miss us on the way in, but what about the way out? could it come around the sun and hit us on the way back? like Schumaker with Jupiter in '94
Apophis was discovered on June 19, 2004, by astronomers Roy Tucker, David Tholen, and Fabrizio Bernardi at the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, Arizona. They were only able to observe the asteroid for two days because of technical and weather problems.

@@DobsonianPower apophis is supposed to come back close to earth in 2034. If it trajectory is altered or it goes through the keyhole during its first pass it could potentially strike earth in 2034
