It’s amazing how something 340m in diameter can cause so much destruction. The Chicxulub and Vredfort asteroids that impacted all them millions of years ago must’ve really messed the planet up. The Vredfort crater is estimated to be anywhere between 170km-300km in diameter, that’s some explosion when it landed.

Depending on all the celestial factors that determine objects orbiting in our Solar System, Apophis could approach Earth closer than 200,000 miles. Let's hope & pray we don't get impacted.
@@bobgrant7593 If memory serves, the last estimate was around 19,400 miles or so. A question is whether the trajectory will alter or not. I read somewhere that when the flyby occurs it will be visible (using binoculars) in the central Asia area. My trouble is having difficulty believing nearly anything from mainstream science these days, whether planetary, geophysical or medical, etc.. For example, concerning the one that flew by a week or so ago, a science news article I read described that it would be "terrifyingly close to Earth" at 1.2 MILLION miles. If 1.2 million is terrifying, I can't wait to see what they'll say about less than 20,000 miles. Bottom line, be careful about trusting the media. You have a valid point. Sounds like no one will really be able to estimate how close Apophis will approach Earth until late 2028 or early 2029. Could be a scary Near Earth Object. Let's all live decent lives to watch it pass by.
I like how it went from a 2 percent chance to a zero. How can it be zero? They all of the sudden are trying to crash things into asteroids to change their course? That thing is gonna hit us

I'm not convinced either, Starmn. If NASA knew Apophis or any NEO would strike us, they'd lie their butts off to avoid the panic while they ran scenarios and came up with plans to divert it. They may already be doing that.
@@josephbell5806 could be why they're doing this Dart mission testing if they can change the direction of an object. I agree that NASA and the world governments wouldn't tell us if it was going to hit Earth. Imagine the panic if we knew the truth.
I was going to mention the Dart mission myself. It may well be a test to see if Apophis can be diverted I'm sure they would do whatever they could to keep panic down if they knew a strike was in reality, a strong possibility.
Yeah, the government goes underground, along with the billionaires and their 5-Star bunkers. They smugly give us plebes a raspberry and say "Neener, neener" only to discover five minutes before impact - to their horror - that the computer glitched again, and now they're 3 km from the landing site. Gotta love those entitled politicians and billionaires.
It seems like a bit of a contradiction in my view that we know that the earth has gotten just absolutely peppered throughout its whole history and that it DEFINITELY will happen again, but then any and every close object encountered hitting us within maybe the next few generations is seemingly always ruled as a statistical impossibility. Like are we worried or are we not worried?
Because a few human generations is too short of a time, so the chances for a collision within that time frame are extremely small. Now if you are talking about millions of years, then yes, chances increase because the time range has increased.
How arrogant we are! I would like to put forward an idea to thinking people everywhere. The estimates of how close Apophis will come to Earth in 2029 is something like 20,000 miles. Folks, that isn't just close, it is razor's edge close. That is nine times closer to Earth than the moon is! It would take only a miniscule of variation in the orbit to send Apophis directly into Earth with such a close approach. And, further, I ask you.....if NASA, in fact, knew that Apophis was highly likely to impact Earth....do you really think that they would tell us so? Can you imagine the outcry and panic that would result if they were completely honest with us poor shlubs? Think about it people.
@@Cosmoknowledge And they all would have a motive to lie. And for the same reasons. With all due respect, there would be tremendous pressure on any agency or organization to suppress such information from the powers that be, which I'm sure you're aware.
@@orange8003 I see what you're saying, but remember, we're not talking about a certainty here, only a possibility. I imagine, too, that NASA employees and officials wouldn't want to be labeled "conspiracy theorists" for a mere possibility. 19,000 miles isn't much, Orange....it really wouldn't take much...
We are underestimating the diameter. It's probably 500m. It's not apophis that is the problem it's the number of small 100m objects that are orbiting it. Large asteroids usually have companions orbiting them. There are several examples of this for 800m range rocks. The chelyabinsk blast was a smaller rock orbiting 2012 DA14 was a 50m rock that made a close pass but it had the 15m chelyabinsk asteroid orbiting it that did hit from a different direction because its orbit is likely large and elliptical.

@@mikeh3005 me personally? Yep, if I knew of an imminent impact of a planet killer, I would tell people. Not saying it would be pretty, there would be anarchy, but right or wrong, I would let it be known.

Also, the meteoroid that hit the JWST's was less than .1 millimeter in diameter. The only reason it did any damage is where it hit, and because there is no friction in space, so objects fly around at great speeds. Anything hitting Earth loses mass by burning up while entering the atmosphere. Also, no offence, but yes, NASA doesn't track every single fuckin' meteoroid that's about one tenth of a MILLIMETER in diameter. Billions of deaths and years of climate disruption? Not even close. Apophis is big but Earth isn't densely populated enough to suffer that many casualties, even if a metropolitan area would be hit. @@bobgrant7593 If memory serves, the last estimate was around 19,400 miles or so. A question is whether the trajectory will alter or not. I read somewhere that when the flyby occurs it will be visible (using binoculars) in the central Asia area. The astroid will hit the Earth
It won't.
It's crazy right!? But hey, I highly doubt NASA is lying about it because NASA is not the only player around. A lot of others have made calculations.

1000 megatons is a lot bigger than you think it dude. it isn't the initial impact that matters. the debris kicked up would be super heated and deadly over a long distance. and once it cools down, we'd face basically zero plant growth and dwindling food supplies for around a decade. so yes, a large percentage (in the billions) of humanity would die (probably from starvation.)
@@nc5481 but it won’t hit in 2029. Or will it?
@@nc5481the dinosaur's extinction comet was 10km wide. Apophis could cause a tsunami or localized damage, but it would not cause a planetary winter.
@@nc5481 nonsense. Apophis would only destroy a mid sized country at most. It is not a planet killer and not even close to a threat to humanity as a whole.
It will travel with smaller pieces. They could be attractive to our gravity so we could have a lot of things hitting the earth.
We’re the government. Trust us.
Nasa isn't the government, they're funded by it, so kinda but not really as they follow their own jurisdiction and not congress's
according to latest calculations it will pass under the geosynchronous satellite belt and will be visible with your eyes 22k miles/31kilometers
My friend is convinced that this is gonna happen one day.. (But he is paranoid by nature) I hope if it does hit us that the bugger lands on my house! Despite what all of these "survivalists" think I don't want to be here after.. What a mess.. Besides I am to old to contribute anyways.. I would be more of a drain than an asset.. But what ever will be will be! I was wondering about this big rock now I know.. carry on my brother!
Well, we are safe from this rock at least for a hundred years, according to NASA. But a big rock will definitely come. However, I'm more worried about global warming or a nuclear war. That would be catastrophic. Tink, you are always appreciated. Thank you!
@@Cosmoknowledge global warming its bs. Its all to do with the sun.
Always make sure you get data from scientific sources. Be careful, and stay safe!
@@Cosmoknowledge Thank you my friend it is always nice to be appreciated.. and global change will bring about water shortages which will bring about food shortages which will bring about war.. I do not think folks will use the nuke (maybe is some very small capacity). But the writing in on the wall.. Since greedy people will never change it will be what it will be.. But! let us cross that bridge when we get to it..
You are just rocking on universe 🎉👍 keep it up
Yayy!!! Thanks so much, my friend! ❤
If NASA noticed this so-called Apophis, then they would have to set up a crew to stop the approaching towards Earth in 2029 and save mankind. *Hint - I thought about the 90s movie "Armageddon" because it's about to be a real one.
Apophis won't hit. But other rocks may be dangerous. Well, we are trying to learn and defend ourselves in the future.
About 15 years ago I read a story in National Geographic that an asteroid was going to pass by earth very close in 2029. It went on to say that after it misses the earth it carries on its path around our sun and on the way back in 2032 it crashes into Earth. I kept that magazine this whole time just to see how accurate the story it.
I believe that shit definitely will hit earth
Forgive the ignorance on my part, but it seems odd that if they can work out the altitude at which Apophis will pass over us and also the exact location and time of day this will happen, why is there no mention of a date? I mean if the hour of day can be estimated then the date should be a no brainer.
13th April 2029

My niece dreamed, that a large rock or asteroid will hit the earth in 2029, Na magsasanhi ng pag half ng earth. It's hard to believe because a child said that, but if you think about it, it's very disturbing.
Did this really happen? If so look up thomas horn
Bobo.
Read Revelation 8 on 'Wormwood' which fits the impact scenario & aftermath if Apophis was to hit Earth.
I believe it. Children dream prophetic dreams more often than adults.
Source: I was reading and had dream about it. And if dreams are made of our mind then it means it will happen, because our own mind wouldn't lie, right?
Most of it is just talking about the trajectory. If you came here for the title then you're welcome 4:40
The interesting part is they factually know whether it'll hit us based on some "keyhole" theory. The funny thing is we never found out whether it passed through said keyhole.
Saying that Apophis (Wormwood in the Bible) won't be a problem at 19,000 away is like saying someone is "just a little bit pregnant."
Well, I guess time will tell.
I remember media saying it would hit in 2004. It's just a matter of time before it does hit, since it crosses earth's path twice every cycle.
The truth is that they’re only going to tell us about the ones that have a low probability of impacting the Earth, there could well be one heading straight at us now that they’re sure not going to tell us about. They need to maintain order as they figure out how to handle the problem at hand
Maybe. Maybe not.
That's not how things work, dummy 😂😂
Might as well sell all your belongings. And cheer up, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everyone's not out to get you 😀

We wouldn't know where it will hit until it breaches our atmosphere. Then you have seconds before impact. With 🌎 being 25,000 miles in circumference obilate sphere, 171 million sq miles of water, 55 million sq miles of land, possibly a million cites. Odds of your city getting hit is 0.googleplex1% chance
I’m not sure if they would tell us if it was going to hit.
I'm not sure all the scientists in the world that can make these calculations would lie about this.
I’m sure they wouldn’t, they would all be scrambling and making preparations to save their own asses.
I knew once they changed it to zero percent chance of hitting us that it was definitly gonna hit us.
Some people think Apophis could be the wormwood trumpet judgement in the book of Revelation
Not really.
@@Cosmoknowledge Tell that to Tom Horn lol
@@Cosmoknowledge Yup, tell that to Tom Horn and read up on Revelation 8. The similarities of the aftermath of an impact are uncanny.
I believe it is.
Some of the Trumpet judgments in Revelation resemble the effects of a meteorite hitting the earth.
How would anyone from 2 thousand years ago even know to guess the effects of such a collision in so much detail?
There is time to make peace with our Maker.
@@Cosmoknowledge You my friend know nothing of what you talk about, maybe study a little bit more before telling people that this massive hunk of rock 🪨 wont hit us or hurt us because it will 100% destroy this planet

I think there was a mistake at 5:15. No way Billions would die (humans), but Millions might. Even that might depend a lot on were the impact would be.
It's no mistake.
Pre impact
Impact
Post impact
Results would be billions, that's more than 2 b
Don't look up is probably quite precise. It would be like a new wave of denialist fools while Apophis drifts the skies in a near and distant future.
So sad!
Who ever survived this is gangsta
😂
People: Look a shooting star!
POV at space: its apophis
😂
The asteroid that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs as well as 70% of all species on Earth was at least 10 to 15 kilometers wide. It was much larger than Apophis, Apophis size just 345 meters. though millions of people could still die if an Apophis-sized asteroid struck a major metropolitan area.
If asteroid Apophis hits Earth? We are all doomed! DOOMED!
Not really.
@@Cosmoknowledge I think the title of the video doesnt fit 100 percent to the content. I would like to see a detailed video on the impacts on earth if it hits us. Can you do that @Cosmoknowledge ?
