Amazing work buddy. I definitely would have chucked that in the bin and gone to the pub. The restoration of the corroded parts is unbelievable. Most of us would have purchased another lamp and scavenged it for parts. Contrary to some of the comments, I believe a rebuild is a restoration as you are restoring the piece to its former glory. Homes are rebuilt and called restored, art work is restored with modern paint to make it look like it was. Cars are restored using donor parts and no one questions it. Yet here any time anyone uses a new part or makes one, others lose their mind. Anyway, glad to see your laser is earning its keep. I’m sure the hydraulic press will do so too.
Thank you so much for those kind words. At one point I was going to just buy a new torch and put the old globe in it from rusty one and call it restored just for shits and giggles. Can't remember if you seen my post from last week about the Axe. How much can be replaced before it's a different item is the big question that's why I tried to keep as much of the original metal. Next time please just stop me and say come on mate just let it go, we are heading to the Pub.
I have seen a lot of restoration-videos with absolut mindblowing results. But you have put much more effort and skill to bring this bag of rusty flakes again into a working utility than many others put into their projects. And that with a piece of hardware that when it was new costs only pennies. Congratulations !

@@michaeldaruwalla8717 Thank for watching Michael. That Sounds like a brilliant idea. Does the battery fit into a mould of the original battery at all or do you just have it wired in. This lamp was impossible. It took me 2 months to complete and you don't really get to see half of what I had to go through to get it to look as it is finished. I should have made a 3 part video.

Well done mate I had an ex army version with a lift up lense shield, and if I remember correctly you could change the colours of the beam. I think it was four colours red, blue, green and yellow but it was about seventy years ago and memory not as sharp as it used to be. You could pick up ex military stuff as easy as anything in the 1950's, and the majority was new never used new old stock. Watching you do that reminded me of Triggers broom. 😊

Thank you very much Danilo. I agree, sometimes I think I should have done the same thing but it was all worth it in the end. Please remember to like and share If you haven't already.
Justamente estaba pensando lo mismo... Será el mismo producto?
Esa es la paradoja del barco de Teseo.
Muchos saludos.
Muy buena tu restauración ❤
Thanks for watching. At one point I thought about building a completely new lamp and just keeping the original globe lol
Lo pensaste, pero igual continuaste con tu restauración... excelente!!!.
Muchos saludos😊😊😊
I have seen a lot of restoration-videos with absolut mindblowing results. But you have put much more effort and skill to bring this bag of rusty flakes again into a working utility than many others put into their projects. And that with a piece of hardware that when it was new costs only pennies.
Congratulations !

What an EPIC restoration/rebuild! What a little gem of a piece🥰 And I absolutely love me some stop-motion cinematography to hats off to you mate for putting in the very hard yards on this video- absolutely loved it🤩
Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the stop motion. I think if I didn't do that everyone would have just skipped over it. You don't need a Hydraulic Press by any chance do you lol😁 I might try and pick something simple for my next project. Excellent restoration. Didnt think you could do it. Should have known better. I love those old lamps. Im glad they didnt ask you why you needed a hydraulic lift. " yes i need it ,Im trying to fix an old lamp" 😂

The Ship of Theseus, or Trigger's broom, whichever you prefer, spring to mind. I'd have chucked it in the bin. No, actually, I'd have burried it in the garden and studied the rate of decay, because I'm a nerd! Well done for persevering!
Thanks very much for watching. I'm with you next time let's just put it in the ground. That would have been so much easier lol
Todavía fabrican esas baterías?? Cómo las traen hasta Australia, en un catamarán cada vez que hay luna llena?? 🤣🤣🤣 Una restauración impresionante como siempre. Me alegro de que estés de vuelta.
Thanks for checking out my video. No they don't make those batteries any more. Bringing it back to live should have been a completely different video. I hope my next video will not take as long as this one.

Loved the stop-motion of the press assembly! That must have taken forever. Great work all around.
@@pfadiva Thanks very much for watching Becky. Yes the stop motion did take forever. The whole project took 2 months to complete. That little light is worth a fortune now with all the time and money I put into it. 😊
I loved the brazed patches -- very steampunk.
Next time, keep the patches bare and develop the patina😍
Hey thanks for watching Scott. That is such a cool idea, I like it. You should have suggested that one 2 months ago. Would have saved me so much work

Hero mode restoration.
Although it really was a re-manufacture.
Amazing level of work..
Thanks for watching Mick. If you have an axe and you replace the handle, is it the same axe or a re manufacture.
Check out some of my previous projects 👍
I have alamp similar to yours and modified it into a 18650 and user a led bulb. The lamp you depicted seemed an impossible project and it is a wonder that you managed to make it look like new once again.
Awesome job sir. It kinda reminded me of Frankenstein when you welding the main body of the light back together. But seriously very fine job 👍👍
Thanks very much for taking the time to check it out and leave a comment. I had to keep as much of the original material or others start calling it a rebuild and not a restoration. Check out some of my other project like the 2 at the end of this video, they are both equally challenging in their own way
Liking this just for the stop motion so far.... interested to see how the rest of the video pans out.
Thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed the rest of the video.
Excellent job, is that a genuine battery? or a reproduction.
Thanks very much for watching. It is a genuine battery but I rebuilt it to use for the project. I didn't include it in the video or it would have been 20 min longer.

Amazing restoration and you did this with common tool that most people will have in their house..i just wish the video will be much longer😅
Yeah everyone’s got a laser cutter / hydraulic press / bench drill and so on. Got several here in my bedside drawer and another couple under the sink in the bathroom.
@@fieqakim Thank you my friend. I had to leave most of the footage out or it would have been a 3 hour video lol.
Bit disappointed you didn't restore the batteries also ....

@@toolrestoration who said I didn't restore the battery, That's next weeks video 👍
Wow that sounds like a pretty cool little light, well done for remembering back 70 years ago. I hope I have a memory like yours. Thanks very much for watching and sharing that that information. Yes Triggers broom, its always trick working out how much to replace but I kept as much as I could as possible. It was definitely one of my hardest projects so far. @@garrylearmonth9313 Thanks for watching Garry. Good to hear from you.
Back then any light was good enough, but compared to what we can get today they are pretty sad 😁
@@Austeration The battery for them was expensive and a bit hard to get, but again back then leds etc wasn't about lol...... It was better than a generator on the bike. Tnks for responding.
@@garrylearmonth9313 no problems at all Garry. I only ever had a generator light. Never seemed to work properly though
My first bike lights in 1960s Ireland were very similar to the one you are restoring. Where did you find the original battery type?
My fathers first cycle light in 1930s Bornholm (Denmark) used Carbide, they were actually far brighter than my battery lamp 30 years later.
Thanks for watching and leaving such a kind comment. Those carbide ones look amazing I would love to get my hands on one of those to restore. My wife found the old battery at a garage sale. It was flat of course so I had to work some magic on that one.

I wouldn't call it restoration, I would call it rebuilding. I don't know how well I expressed it in English. A lot of work was done. And you did everything possible. And I'm glad that you didn't restore the batteries either, although I think you would have succeeded. My Like for you.
Thanks for watching. Rebuild or restore is always a fine line. How much of the original item can be replaced before it's a completely different item.
I actually did restore the battery, I just didn't show that in this video or it would have added an extra 20 min to the video.

Sensational!
I would recommend solder for thin tin plated steel. It should be adequately strong for this job and much easier to achieve a neater finish.
@@squiremc Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I did consider this but I have had some bad results when placing items into the oven after powder coating. Check out some of my other projects if you have time.
@@Austeration I didn't realise the temperature for curing powder coatings was consistent with the melting point of this alloy. I don't use powder coatings so I was unaware. As a metallurgist and organic chemist ( I retired from chemistry before powder coating was a thing ) I feel rather shamefaced. I should have done my research a little more assiduously before putting in my two cents worth.
I will definitely be watching your videos as I subbed after watching this one.
Keep up the amazing work!
@@squiremc It's all good. I didn't think of it either until I had an issue. Appreciate your suggestion. It would have been a very acceptable solution if I was just spray painting it. I actually gave the lamp 4 coats of powder sanding inbetween coats to achieve a better finish.
