  • Hello and welcome folks.
    Behold the stunning transformation of an Australian Vintage 1960's Fyrside Kerosene Heater, once lost under layers of paint and rust, but now resurrected to its former glory! This magnificent restoration project has breathed new life into an iconic piece of Australian history, paying homage to the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
    In its neglected state, the Fyrside Kerosene Heater was a mere shadow of its former self, with its natural beauty obscured by unsightly paint, however as a passionate restorer I refused to let time erase the heater's charm and embarked on a very labour-intensive journey to restore its original lustre.
    Countless hours of dedication were poured into meticulously stripping away the paint, revealing the vintage heater's true character beneath. With patience and unwavering commitment, I delicately restored each intricate detail and metal surface, removing imperfections and scratches that marred its initial elegance.
    The restoration process, though challenging, was nothing short of a labour of love. In the relentless pursuit of authenticity it led me to craft a brand-new gasket seal with the precision of a laser cutter. This newfound mastery in engineering not only added functionality to the vintage masterpiece but also allowed the heater to perform at its peak efficiency once more.
    As the layers of paint vanished, the Fyrside Kerosene Heater's natural state emerged, a testament to its timeless design. The rich patina, a result of years of use, became a story etched into the heater's surface, a testimony to the warmth it once provided to generations past.
    Every crevice of the Fyrside Kerosene Heater was meticulously inspected and restored with utmost care, resulting in a breath taking revival of its original craftsmanship. The rejuvenated heater now stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of vintage Australian design and a tribute to bringing it back to life.
    With its fresh paint and vibrant patina, the Australian Vintage 1960's Fyrside Kerosene Heater is now ready to reclaim its place as the centrepiece of any space it graces. A fusion of function and artistry, this restored gem is more than just a heater; it's a glimpse into history, an ode to passion, and a celebration of a treasured Australian legacy.

      Hi i am from Brisbane but living in china. I have an old rusty sword that was found in the riverbank. I will bring it home within the next 12 months. Can I contact you about restoring it? I can also look around for some unusual items to restore and bring them back too as we will send a container of furniture home.

    I grew up with this form of heating in our bungalow. Our heater was almost exactly the same as yours. Filling the glass bottle with kero from the drum in the backyard was my job.

      @Austeration  Рік тому +1

      Thanks very much shedman, when I spotted it I thought how many of these old pieces have I seen sitting around rusting so I had to do something about it. Filling the bottle was my job also. We had a 20ltr drum in the shed with a plastic tap on the bottom. The tap was always hard to turn off and on so I would often struggle to turn it off before it was running down the sides 😆 I also thought that chrome piece was going to be a major issue, I can't believe how well it turned out my self 👍 Glad it triggered some memories for you 😀

      We had a similar model Fireside in the mid 1960's, ours had a cylindrical metal container to hold the Kero. Dad used to send me up to the Hardware store to buy the Kero by the pint from a large drum I think it was a one-gallon container I took to fill which was poured into a five-gallon drum in the shed complete with tap. That was my job as a ten-year-old, keep the old Kero heater supplied with Kero in winter, was paid around two bob a week pocket money for that and mowing the lawn.

    I was very surprised and never expected to see the chrome / nickel come back to such a nice finish, it looks like new and unmolested to me, great job brother.
    I grew up in the era of these heaters, there would be at least one in every home, usually shut down before bed time. It's not really the sort of thing you'd want to keep you warm in an enclosed space. It was considered moderately safe at the time, nowadays if your insurance company caught you with one of them, they would give you the stink eye and cancel your policy.

    • @Austeration
      @Austeration  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching. I was very surprised also with the Chrome. I wasn't sure what I was going to do if it didn't. I agree I think everyone had one of these heaters. The smell does get to you after a little while. I'll be using this one to keep my shed a bit warmer in winter. Your probably correct about the insurance company's though. Appreciate your comments. We had a similar parafin heater in the UK. All we could afford for heating in the 50's. They were lethal if kicked or knocked around. Made by Alladin, later versions had a cut-off valve if the heater was lifted. So nostalgic to see it working at the end of the video. Thanks.

    Hi, Mikky here, from the UK--(on his wife's computer.....shhh!!)--and Ime sure we had a version of that type of fire over here, we were in Scotland at the time.
    I distinctly remember having to ''trim the wick''--(as I was the oldest, whilst dad was away with the RAF at various times)--AND having to go get the Paraffin for it, on my bicycle, in the winter.
    The Paraffin was 'Esso Blue', and I remember the 'trimmer' had two smallish half circles on it to trim the wick with.
    It maybe had a small fuel type tank at the rear.
    Not sure if it wasn't called ''The Valiant' or some such name, or if that was another Paraffin heater we had too, with a long funnel on it, with a small plate on top, with enough room for a small milk pan, or a 'whistling' Kettle!
    As soon as I saw your restoration, it instantly took me back through the years, happy days, happy times.....happy smells!!

    BEAUTIFUL RESULTS!!! and I REALLY love that silver gasket... glad you picked it over creme... I would have chromed the screws tho.. there isn't isn't enough chrome accent to it, ESPECIALLY on the top... but that's all personal preferences...
    ANYWAY, you did a FANTASTIC JOB!!! Color me IMPRESSED!!! - One thing tho.. I just cannot for the life of me figure out how the kero gets from the bottle into those pipes and over to the wick... Do you have to pour some into the little cup that the glass bottle is sitting on?? that seems to be the ONLY way this things works, but that doesn't seem like such a bad thing... If you leave it on while you sleep it won't burn up all the fuel... and you can pour in just the right amount to last through the night and not waste it... Very Smart!!! :) - THANK YOU for making my Saturday just that little bit more interesting :D

      Thanks for watching Tweedle and welcome to my channel. Great comment and a good question. I probably forgot to show one important piece of video. Aquí en La Ciudad de Buenos Aires en la década de los años 60 este modelo de estufa se vendía con la marca "FOGATA" era exactamente idéntica al modelo que estas refaccionando. Funcionaba a kerosene. The old "Kero Heater" was a staple during winter in my home as a child during the 1960's. Toasting bread on it and smothering it with butter and jam while sitting in pajamas watching the black and white tv and being warmed by it was an enjoyment. Then later filling the tank with kerosene and changing the wick were responsibilities of my young teen years. Iconic seems too simple a word to describe the place they hold in my memories. Thanks so much for bringing this one back to life and for the reminiscence.
