      Completely underrated as a member of this band. People always talk about Jimmy Page and John Bonham. JPJ is an amazing bass player. I think the reason he's forgotten about is that if you don't have great stereo equipment you might not even hear the bass back there. I know I didn't until around the 90s when I got my first real sound system.

    That “squeeze my lemon” line comes from Robert Johnson, “Traveling Riverside Blues”, from 1937.

      It's an old blues song. It's a Howlin Wolf song called "Killing Floor" that they reworked. They stole it like a lot of other stuff. lol.

    Freaky deeky indeed. I was born in the 50s, the oldest of 6 kids with 3 younger sisters and came of age when they were making this great music. When my dad first heard the "squeeze my lemon" lines blasting from my room, he couldn't shut me down fast enough yelling about my little sisters hearing it. Good times.

    This was recorded in pieces throughout 1969. Page was a whopping 25 years old. Plant was only 21. All four guys churning this out in their early 20s. A-freaking-mazing.

      Full full circle. 4 Brits, basically stealing old blues music and adding their own flavor. Don't get me wrong, it still rocks! By the 60's blues in America was on the down swing and many Brits:Stones, Clapton, Zep, etc brought it back to the Americans to enjoy. Many, inc Clapton, Stones, SRV did their best to give props to the three kings, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry. Hopeful some in America can appreciate some of the great great music their ancestors invented.

    "'Til the juice runs down my leg" is originally from a Robert Johnson song. Sorry I can't remember which one at the moment, but RJ started it. Zep actually got of their songs and references from old school Mississippi blues, which I've always appreciated about them. This song is basically a cover of "Killing Floor" by Howlin' Wolf.

    Unbelievable, you forget just how beyond good this band is! The creativity and arrangements are beyond belief. You could not get away with songs this length these days. I feel like it is so unusual now for any room is made to showcase the prowess of the band. I regret not making it my business to see them live.     Back when we were listening to Led Zepplin, our parents couldn't be less interested in any of it as long as we didn't play it too loud. That was probably a good thing. (for us). Imagine being in your twenties and listening to music like this. I was lucky.

    Inspired by Howlin' Wolf "Killing Floor" and Albert King's "Cross-cut Saw" but references go even back to 1937 with the song "She Squeezed My Lemon" by Arthur McKay. It is said that Led Zeppelin were fiddling around in the studio and recorded this song in one take... simply amazing. Great groove by John Paul Jones on bass.

    the killing floor is the section of the slaughter houses in Chicago where they killed the cattle, back in the day apparently a lot of blues men worked there and it was a horrible job

    This is my absolute favorite Led Zeppelin song. The bass work by JPJ is just amazing. As for the line in the middle about the lemon, the myth goes, Plant forgot the lyrics during that verse so just started singing the line from an old Willie Dixon song.

    So much going on this song, so memorable as is the album. From JPJ bass lines, to RP singing "Baby, baby, baby...", this song definitely knows how to squeeze us.

    Led Zeppelin II was the first album I ever bought, when I was nine years old. Looking back at the lyrics, I wonder what my mom thought about the "freaky deaky" stuff. The song is a reworking of Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor, and he sued Led Zeppelin successfully to get a songwriting credit.

    This is the music that I grew up with 🎼 🦋 From age 10 & up for me. I still remember listening to this music, & it was beyond everything that I had heard before 🎼. Still feel that🎼🦋 The band pulls from a lot of the Great Blues Artist an edge 🎼 ….Also never understood particular lyric as a young girl. Still have yet to outgrow Led Zeppelin 🎼🦋. Love your reaction also, it’s like getting to listen to it with a new musical ear! It’s Fun ✌️❤️

    My favorite reaction from you ever, Jamel ! When this song came out, it was banned from the radio stations in Shreveport and most of the South. Of course that made us want to play it even more !! One of the best bluesy songs from LZ .
