"Bring It On Home" is a blues song written by American music arranger and songwriter Willie Dixon. Sonny Boy Williamson II recorded it in 1963, but the song was not released until 1966. Led Zeppelin adapted it in part as a homage to Williamson in 1969 and subsequently, the song has been recorded by several artists.
You should check out the video of Rory Gallagher performing Bullfrog Blues, a song written by William "Bigfoot" Harris back in 1928, on The Old Grey Whistle Test and compare it to the original version. 👍✌️
Plant was heavily influenced by American blues singers, just as Page was influenced by American blues guitar players. I suspect this was their way of paying tribute to those artists within the context of what is primarily a rock-oriented song.
This is a Willie Dixon song. Was released before Zeppelin did it by Sonny Boy Williamson. This song was part of a settlement with Dixon along with Whole Lotta Love, sa s album LZ II
Yes, you need to react to Nobody's Fault but Mine. You will not only love the song, but it features both a harmonica solo and a guitar solo, and it's hard to figure out which solo rocks harder.
I am 65 and remember the first time I heard these guys! It was on AM radio WLS out of Chicago. A fun all night out partying with the guys. I might have been all of 15 and of Mom and Dad were not going to be happy, but just listening to Led Zeppelin on the way home made it worth it all. The radio was rocking the best AM could.

In 1969, English rock band Led Zeppelin recorded a version of the song for their album Led Zeppelin II. The intro and outro were deliberate homages to the Sonny Boy Williamson song, whereas the rest of the track was an original composition by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.[6] Plant's harmonica part was recorded in Vancouver. The band went on tour with the master tapes for Led Zeppelin II and recorded parts in various studios. Led Zeppelin frequently performed this song live at Led Zeppelin concerts, first appearing as an encore on the band's 1970 UK tour. When played live, the song exhibited sharp interplay between Page's guitar, John Bonham's drums and John Paul Jones' bass. This can be seen on the Led Zeppelin DVD, which features a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970. A recording from a June 25, 1972, concert in Los Angeles is included on How the West Was Won. From 1973, the song was dropped from the band's live set list. However, the middle section riff was retained and served as the introduction to "Black Dog" on the band's 1973 tour of the United States, as documented in the concert film The Song Remains the Same. "Bring It On Home" was played at the reunion of surviving Led Zeppelin members staged at Jason Bonham's wedding reception in May 1990.[6] Copyright issue Without songwriter Willie Dixon's knowledge, Arc Music, the music publishing arm of Chess Records, brought a claim against Led Zeppelin for using "Bring It On Home" without its permission.[1] The group maintained that they copied parts of the song as an intentional tribute to Williamson, but resolved the matter with an undisclosed cash settlement.[1] For the 2003 live album How the West Was Won, the song was credited to Dixon alone, with the note "Medley contains 'Bring It On Back' (Jimmy Page/Robert Plant/John Paul Jones/John Bonham)".[7] On the 2014 Led Zeppelin II reissue, Dixon is listed as the sole songwriter.
@@pseudoty, truth be told, the other bands did have Willie listed in the songwriting credits on their records even when they first came out. Led Zeppelin did not and they often get singled out for that..... but they were not the only ones who stole from those that came before them.
Another excellent choice, my friend. They lull you in with that stripped-back rocking chair blues, then peel the flesh off your face with those electric lines, then back to the beginning. Such a trip.
When I was young Jimmy's guitar and Plant's voice pulled me into this song. It wasn't until I got older that I realized John Paul's raging bass and Bonham's drums were the backbone of this tune.
In 1969 we had a family gathering at my Aunt and Uncle's place. The youngsters (all teenagers - I was 13) were stuffed in the basement, with Led Zep 2 blasting on the stereo. I was mesmerized - I had never heard anything remotely like this before. I loved it! Every so often an adult would come down, hear the loud music, shake their head in disgust and go back upstairs. My dad, lover of jazz and classical music, popped down, stood there for a few seconds and deadpanned, "At least they know how to play their instruments," and walked back upstairs. Instantly, and for the rest of his life, he was the coolest uncle in the family.
