Superb modelling as always! As someone that too loves the Ffestiniog, the length of everything is almost frustrating, but an enjoyable challenge! Looking forward to seeing the progress. Love the dundas coaches, dont think ive ever seen them done so well!

Would turn all that space to a 009 or 014 layout!

Thank you for the comment - and enthusiasm! As someone with a bit of a butterfly mind I like the current balance. As I say, I'm sure others would build a room sized 009 layout but it's not common. Instead, I'm planning on experimenting with my cameo presentation with a 'new to me' theme of the narrow gauge - and I'm really excited about it!

I noticed Mountaineer on the cover of the magazine, has she ever been made into 009 or 00

The era we model can be of benefit to train length, which allows us to use a smaller space, and not be unbelievable. Think the 50's & 60's on many branch lines. Often only a well-worn loco, 2 or 3 wagons & a van. Even in the 80's we saw lines with just a loco & 1 wagon quite often, so you can still run diesels. Modelling the US - 36 or 40 ft stock was common in the first half of the 20th century. Can also model the off season which has smaller trains too. You are on the right track to show just a glimpse. It will still allow you to find what you desire from the model.

Hi - impressive as always James…..the only thing that ‘jarred’ - if I can dare to say such a thing of such a wonderful recreation of Linda - is the bucket in the tender……would it not look better if it was hollowed out at the angle it is? Just a thought…..looking forward to watching this progress.

It jarred a little with me too, but I was worried about not being able to get a believable thickness! Tricky in 009, 4mm in general. I usually use these RT Models buckets on a footplate where it’s less jarring.

modelu do a hollow bucket in 4mm that I’ve used previously….might be worth a look….. I’ve managed to drill out a white metal one in the past , but agree it’s high risk!

Can you provide a link to buying your cameo layout book here in America?

The first print run sold out in just a few months, the second is due back from the printer shortly, along with my second book. I’d recommend my publishers book shop as the best source for both, www.titfield.co.uk/index.htm they’ll be available there when they’ve arrived.

I know what you mean about RTR models, I have done many resin kits and 3d prints for 009 but I am working on a few white metal kits
Bus modelling was similar when I was a kid, some people scratch built and some built white metal, some did resin kits and some did resprays of diecast models
They all have their place but the nice thing about 009 is when you fall down the rabbit hole there will always be locos or stock you want that is not RTR and so you must build yourself. I have a Kerr Stuart Brazil kit I am working on for example, but I would get a Quarry Hunslet Nesta in the future

it’s interesting, I guess I only worked with finescale kits in brass and metal or scratchbuilt arojnd a chassis. White metal kits always felt old fashioned, that was one of the reasons I developed the first Narrow Planet steam outline kit and went on to design tens more, both steam and diesel, using the nest parts of 3D printing and etched metal to create achievable enjoyable and hopefully fun kits myself. These days were down to one piece prints again which just doesn’t do it for me, or multi piece single medium. Perhaps I’ll design something else in time!
