Mike, I have never flown a plane but somehow I stumbled on this series of videos on you rebuilding the wildga to your new spec with the new motor and all of the other mods that you did. I don't know much about you other than what these 20 or so videos show but I have a lot of respect for your knowledge, work ethic and drive to complete a project. You are a machine and obviously a very motivated individual. Best of luck to you in all that you do. Thanks for sharing your passion with the world.
Cindy, my wife already thinks my hobbies are too exensive. Based on watching this video I think I could not afford to do this activity. At least at this point in my life. You never know.
@@vinnieboy66 I thought I wouldn't be able to afford it. Well Its more like couldn't have at the time, so I just got a second job. It's just like every hobby out there you can reach it if you want to. I actually gave up 2 Hobbies so I can get into this Hobby, how can't you want to after watching these videos Mike puts out? Aviation starts pulling at your Heartstrings!
I came here from Trent's channel, and I gotta say this guy is an inspiration. He thinks it, then does it. No waffling, no hesitation. That is how you become wealthy in America to begin with. And the way he attacks a project is a thing of beauty. And his enthusiasm is just contagious. I want to go do something after I watch him! lol
His enthusiasm and his work ethic are both infective, I've been watching 1 to 2 of his videos each morning for a short time and I can say, I've accomplished more in the past week than I have in the past few months. "If he can do it, so can I". My employees weren't too happy in the beginning but I can see they are catching the "infection" from me and we're all getting a lot more done.
Yes sir. Don't ya wish you had the time and money? How many projects I could do in a year? 10? 20? 40 maybe. Flip this house here I come. Lol. Oh wait, flip this car in the house I just built, yea that's it. Planes are cool too I guess. Love it.
Love your passion and generous spirit Mike ... my 2 boys - 5 and 9 - are now dead set on being pilots. I appreciate that. Young people need people like yourself to inspire and build that fire early on. Thank you and magnificent job!
pps, I love America. American aviation will always be a cut above and this video is proof that a free man can work near miracles when he's left alone to do it.
What I love most is that it's exactly this can-do attitude that's made the guy (and his twin brother) so successful. Imagine the cost of getting an engineering firm in to do all the mods to this aircraft. It would have added hundreds of thousands to the budget. Mike is just a brilliant person. What a life.
Mike I admire you. You are real aviation ,, James Bond,, . Me too, I am also a glider - airplane pilot and R/C model airplanes builder. I have so many flights on WILGA with Ai- 14 R engine. Your hangar and all equipment is great . Good luck Mike. You are the best. Cheers and ,, yeeha,, !!
Impressed with the 1st fuel tank carbon - Mr. Patey sounded almost embarrassed by the irregular shape but that should be his proudest part. Just excellent do it yourself skills. (I'm sure the money helps but at some point of customization all the money in the world won't give the final product.) Love it - low center of gravity fuel tank no air bubbles.
what a cool dude and pilot, and a lot of beautiful carbon fiber work he has done on this awesome plane, makes it all look so simple when infact he knows his stuff, thanks for sharing the build, a labor of love.
Guys like you built the pyramids. An impossibly complex task broken down into ingeniously simple steps. "It can't be done" becomes "why haven't we done this before?"
It would be a blast to do that work, super impressed with the videos and how much fun you're having doing all this! Thanks for posting what you're up to.
Hey Mike congrats on the FAA approval and the great work so far! Really coming together. Great attitude & looks like you're having fun, thanks for bringing us along!
That shop is amazing.... oh yea that plane is ridiculous. Saw it at Oshkosh... I think it was fine with the piston engine... but as Tim "The Tool Man" Tyler said.... "More Power!" (grunt grunt grunt).... PS I never thought of fuel in the gear leg fairings, but then again those are the biggest gear fairings I have ever seen. I suppose it serves two purposes, one being more fuel for the thirsty turbine..
I don't know anything about building planes. Heck I don't know anything about flying planes either LOL. Watching you do all the work yourself not to mention that you come up with all of your own ideas solve your own problems I don't know how you are able to come with all of the great ideas in building and refining your plane. You are very intelligent very intuitive your passion and drive are inspirational. I feel so inept after watching you. PS you must have a very awesome wife because she obviously has to share you with your "mistress" LOL
Holy Crap!!! I'm an aviation buff, but this project is astounding! (SPOILER ALERT)!!!! This plane flies like an RC aircraft! Just wow! I sub'd and I'm binge watching your DRACO project now.
Tools, equipment, motors, building, weighing, measuring, fixing, fabricating, in a clean garage with every tool ya need. Life gets better than that? I don't think so. Oh wait, at the end you get to go play. Lol.
It is all good excellent work. I am just wondering that that upper part of the undercarriage needs to be very stiff as since the fuel tank is attached to it, then no motion in that upper part is permissible as fuel leaks could develop. Still, this gentleman knows what he is doing and I like his logic and sense of humour as he works on his aircraft, with a purpose and a performance that no other plane can match, Congratulations.
I have to say that you have one of the Nicest hangers I have ever seen. Not much to choose from in Nephi (u14) but I have seen a lot over the years at some really nice airports.
What an impressive talented skilled guy! I am 64 and still trying to improve my skills in building 1/72 and 1/48 scale plastic model airplanes, though I earned a real Private Pilot's license at age 17. Sigh...LOL
The best thing about Draco imho, is that it's an odd plane. Not something you'd normally see. An then, for extra frosting, it's heavily modified to be an original! No wonder people flock to this thing, I did when I was at Osh Kosh! You simply cannot fathom the STOL capabilities of this awesome craft unless you see it live. It is incredible! ...now if only I could pull together the funds for a Scout Carbon....*sigh
Like my my my name is Jack Gilmore I live in Rome Georgia I've watched all your videos on the Draco I love that plane I love what you've done to it but most ball I love your attitude you hadn't had a friend on your face the whole time bill in the you were excited your enthusiasm towards it makes me wanna get out and try to learn how to fly but I'm handicapped man a wheelchair can't walk 60 years old it's a little late for me to try but still why am contacting you is the wings over Georgia happens on October every year right here in Rome Georgia they bring in everybody they can and do a nice air show and in what have you I am not part of the show but I'm inviting new parsley to their show I would love to be up to shake your hand and looked at the Draco close up that is just an awesome piece of equipment a love it take care safe flying have fun as always is stay yourself bit just just stay yourself the EU can't make it any better than what you've done already
I used to catch the fill when it was consisty of butter.cheeze grader cut it like cutting butter.got it real close then not much sanding. But things probably changed from 30 yrs ago.lol
Mike how bout the same system that is current on motocross bikes,We pre load the shit out of the downstroke with a big button that is set just prior too launch,it lowers the front end aprox. 8 inches, greatly reduces a wheelie situation during acceleration. the button is released right after the down stroke happens. You could pre load the gear(squat) the same as a cat ,then depress the release button manually

Your enthusiasm is infective. So fun to watch. Incredible plane.

Awesome guy, AWESOME ATTITUDE !!! Tons of skill too !
Does anyone else feel woefully unaccomplished after watching this guy?

the Lord works in mysterious and wonderful ways! He is an inspiration. www.ksl.com/article/39296846/twins-used-their-adhd-to-become-millionaires
Yeah, even though I own my own business, I still feel like a loser. He’s got a great, positive attitude.
Todd Miller Thanks for the info.

This guy could open a school ! This dude is genius ,innovative, well equipped and a technically free thinker !! Fun to watch and learn from.
I keep watching these videos wishing I had HALF of this man’s work ethic, then I remind myself I’m just sitting here watching videos...
Mike's energy and enthusiasm is infectious and somewhat contagious and inspiring.
Love your passion and generous spirit Mike ... my 2 boys - 5 and 9 - are now dead set on being pilots. I appreciate that. Young people need people like yourself to inspire and build that fire early on. Thank you and magnificent job!

It's a pleasure to watch you work, Mike. Seeing you fly Draco now that you're finished is the proof in the pudding. Very well done, indeed!
this man has got his act together, mad skills

Love the pro-tips you put in your videos @11:42. It would be awesome to have all these tips combined into one video. Or do a video series of pro-tips.

Best hangar I have ever seen. Hangar goals right there!
Watching this vid again, as SCRAPPY nearing completion, ah it takes us back🤠
You make me believe batman really could be. A batmobile, a bat plane, a batarang, what are those but time and effort?
Congrats sir, I am in awe!
You, sir, are a genius.... or a madman? No, seriously, bravo!
I think this man is a robot, I really do not know where he gets all his energy from.😊👍😊👍

This is an incredible piece of work! All thums up!
Mr. Patey, we've taken a vote, your new name is Tony Stark.

Wouldn't you worry about delamination of the carbon/micro fill/carbon layers? LOVE THESE VIDEOS!
Holy Crap!!! I'm an aviation buff, but this project is astounding! (SPOILER ALERT)!!!!
This plane flies like an RC aircraft! Just wow! I sub'd and I'm binge watching your DRACO project now.

that's a labor of love right there!
You are outstanding!!! 👍👍 amazing build.
Successes in a Mike Patey video is measured in 'fist pumps'.
Very good idea and Grate job 👍😎
Dude is a machine.
Your enthusiasm is awesome. Like to meet you someday.
You can tell by those tight mitres that he has built a lot of decks! 😁
WOW Mike. Great job man
wow, love the gantry crane/hoist that's gotta be so convenient I know I would use the B-Jeebuz outta it.
It is all good excellent work. That is the most awesome shop...
Nice plane !!!
This dude is a boss.
If I had the tools I might be able to build a chair. This guy goes down to his garage and builds and epic plane. Where do I hand my man ticket in?
Thanks YT for this recommended video.
AWESOMESAUCE!

I'll never complain about difficulty building my R/C planes again.

Storch on steroids! Very cool!
Can you do a video on turbulence? That plane is beautiful and I'd love to know more about it!
