Like everyone else (I'm local) it's pronounced Lardoh. This area is unfortunately starting to see too many tourists. I've been paddling the Lardeau the end of Sept. during the Kokanee spawn for about 25 yrs. We used to see far more grizzlies between the Trout Lake bridge put in and the God Hill bridge takeout than we do now. The Kokanee count is way down. Gerrard rainbow are fewer, and smaller. There's now an outfitter who takes people down the Lardeau in a raft. There are also far more hunters in the area. All this increased traffic is affecting the wildlife - it's becoming scarce. There used to be a healthy caribou population - but logging is destroying their habitat - and they will soon be gone. This is a well shot video, but social media can have it's ill effects.

You just never know what a grizzly bear might do. Making a lot of noise does make black bears run off, if they aren't already too close. In 1969 I was camping on a small island on the Bow river, outside of Banff, Alberta. A railway line crossed the river there and I thought I would not get harassed by the Mounties there. Around 5:00 I was lying down in my small tent, with my head sticking out the front when I heard some rustling. A yearling grizzly sauntered up and stood about a foot away from me. We were eyeball to eyeball for about 15 Sec. and I don't think I so much as blinked. But I projected the thought to that little bear that it was in a very dangerous place and should run away. I had no food, so the bear ran off. I don't know if it's mother was nearby. I found another place to camp.
There was a video of a drunken Russian who ran screaming at a couple of large brown bears, and they ran off like they didn't want the trouble, and looked scared. But a mother with cubs won't do that, I wouldn't want to try it, anyway.
Yeah, because that is the stupid advice they keep telling everyone. Yell, scream, act tough. the bear will see you as a threat and bluff charge. They are nervous and you make them more nervous by acting aggressive. Notice the bear didn't bother these two quiet guys.

Love your commentary
I kept hoping you were going to fish for some rainbows, video was beautiful...
Trout Lake is good fishing, but the Lardeau River downstream from the outlet is closed to fishing. Thanks for the comment, take care.

We have lots of bear experts in western Canada. Like the people who live here. Where do you live, Texas ?
North Idaho
Who in right mind RUNS TOWARDS BEAR?????
Someone who wants to commit suicide LOL. Not a smart thing to do for anybody else.
