  • Sorry for the jerky camera. the action is around the 7: 50-minute mark. Just to let you know the hikers were warned by nearby park rangers.

    I can't stand all these dumb comments about the poor bear. A lot worse things could and do happen to wildlife. These people are watching it from far away and those who are near it had no idea it was there. It's not like they were hoping to have a life or death close encounter with a grizzly. You shouldn't be on the internet if the real world scares you this much. Go to your safe spaces and pretend all the trees are singing cumbaya with the precious helpless GRIZZLY BEARS.

      They likely wouldn't be able to hear them anyway over the water and wind. Plus, it might actually get the bears attention whereas without that, there's a chance the bear wouldn't have noticed or care about them. Whatever they ddid worked. That's the important part, right? lol

      you're very cynical. Yes it's true, a lot of people like entertainment or a jump scare, but humans do jump into action to save other humans and display great acts of heroism when necessity arises. Pretty sure we all wish reckless drivers get into car accidents, but most would try to help if they get into a terrible accident.

  • @dannyroberts5056
    @dannyroberts5056 4 роки тому +31

    Two things realy piss me off about this situation. First the people down by the river trying to get as close as they could to the grizzly. That is in direct defiance of park rules. Second is when the couple hiking down the trail had no clue a grizzly was heading towards them. Not a single person filming this from your vantage point shouted out a warning to them . The grizzly nor the hikers were doing anything wrong and this could have turned out bad for both parties if this had been a mature grizzly or a sow with cubs. The hikers could have lost there lives and in turn so would the grizzly. All for a youtube moment. Lets hope someone is not that hartless if you are in a life threatening situation one day.

    • @lamontjohnson5810
      @lamontjohnson5810 Рік тому +8

      It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the individuals filming are quite a distance away from the bear and hikers in question and are zooming in to record the footage. Right off the bat you hear one man say "those people are crazy to get that close", which tells you the individuals recording aren't as close at they appear. Not to mention all the concern they do express for the hikers should indicate that if they could have warned them, they would have.

      Flawed Perfection Yea, especially the ones that actually live there all the time. The tourists are just testing their luck in a group during a tour, whereas the lone hiker in Eagle River, a native and avid hiker, should have known better. He was mauled to death.

    • @kennyw871
      @kennyw871 5 років тому +21

      Guns/rifles are not allowed in the park. Don't like it, don't go, or go in on a tour bus during the season. At the end of the season citizens can drive well into the park, at your own risk of course. It's usually Alaska residents that know how to handle themselves around bears. I did and took great pictures of bears, moose and ptarmigan, not to mention the beautiful fall colors.

    Read "Taken by bear in Yellowstone" if you want to understand the danger of interacting with any bear. Even the early Native American Indians were rightly fearful of Grizzlies. They were extremely strong and hard to kill, occasionally hunting humans. And that was before all the tons of garbage feeding and tents full of yummy smelling toothpaste and shampoo started flooding in...

      Authorities in urban and cities are failing to advise people that bears have been spotted in their neigjborhoods. And these are bears with trackers on. Wildlife resources know exactly the whereabouts of bears. Be prepared people. Resources are all for the bear, and not concerned about human life. If a part of the ocean is shut down because of shark activity, why are there no signs erected to warn people of bear activity?

I just posted me comment a few minutes ago, but he sums up my emotions much better than my prose. Sorry, but I think you both are really overreacting. This is just a roadside overlook/picnic area, one of many you can find in Alaska.
      Grab a backpack, quad map, and an orienteering compass, then take a hiking trail (or game trail and take off across country if you lived in a forest or the bush for a while), go for about an hour or more in the right direction and I guarantee you will be a few miles from the nearest road, dwelling, or crowd of people. You will hear no talking, yelling, cars, buses, or trucks. Keep going and you can spent many days without ever seeing another person.
      I'm amazed at people who want solitude, yet they look to find it in the, convenience, safety, and crowds of a blacktop highway. If you want a real wilderness experience, then there is some work and a learning curve involved.

    As a result of dumb tourists Alaskan national parks now display this notice.
    "In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle the bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains a lot of berry seeds and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper spray."

    So... This is filmed at Savage river rest stop in Denali National Park Alaska..... A popular stroll for the visitors... This is a rare encounter...
    Interesting thing here...when the people first put their hands up...they think they are under arrest... They still haven't seen the bear.... They are just reacting to the Rangers commands.... I have seen this interaction from another angle. Also the Ranger involved was narrating the footage as it was being shown.
    The bear btw must be at least 3 yrs old otherwise it would have still been with it's mom.
    I work at the park.

      @@JulianLopez-wv5el hi ... I was told what happened by the law enforcement officer.... Sure everything is open to interpretation... Just sharing what he told and he was there...
      Yes it was a juvenile bear but it is still a potentially dangerous situation... This bear may still have weighed in about 300 lbs and would be capable of causing serious injury .... Grissly bears are not inherently dangerous or aggressive unless the right set of circumstances arises... A wise person will do everything they can to ensure those circumstances do not arise.
      Hence the actions taken by the Ranger.

    • @jakesontiano
      @jakesontiano 5 років тому +1

      Steven Brosius um yea bull shit that's why they started running before they put their hands up. Lmao under arrest yea nice one. If that ranger told you that you seen the video yourself so obviously it wasn't true. Besides people don't stick there hands all the way up inn the a air when there under arrest especially when no ones pointing a gun at them

    • @curlybillbrosius3160
      @curlybillbrosius3160 5 років тому +10

      @@jakesontiano yes the people saw the bear. Yes they started to run.
      The LEO ( Law Enforcement Officer) was on the other side of the river off camera.
      The video footage l saw was filmed from behind the LEO so I could see the officer, the tourists and the bear.
      The officer involved was showing the footage filmed by a different tourist from a different angle to all the staff at the season opening of Denali National Park.
      He was also describing the event step by step.
      He apparently shouted to the tourists when they started to run. He told them to stop immediately and put their hands in the air.
      The point of this is to negate the bears natural 'chase' instinct.
      Also to make yourself appear bigger than you are. This is standard protocol when in a bear encounter.
      After the event people themselves told the LEO that they initially thought they where in some kind of trouble and had done something wrong and that he was arresting them. Obviously that thought did not stay with them long. May l also share that when people are in tourist mode they are let's say a little switched off.... relaxing on vacation. Not thinking properly.
      Also many of the people who come to Denali..... this is there first experience of the wilderness and wildlife. So there is a detachment and a non understanding of what is happening. I am just sharing the information as relayed to a room full of people at Denali National Park by the LEO who was involved in the incident.
      So please try to be less judgemental. Thanks.

      @Douche Baguette yes that is the correct way to act when a brown/grissly bear approaches you. If you run .....the bear will chase you and probably maul you / kill you. The act of standing your ground , rasing your arms and shouting will 90% of the time deter the bear. As you can see in this video.

    Why in the hell do people stroll leisurely through grizzly bear territory, completely unarmed and unalert? Look how easy it is for the bear to disappear completely into the brush, even though extremely close, and imagine the speed and power of that animal if it decided to be aggressive. It's like people don't realize they are walking through a REAL world, in flimsy skin sacks, with monsters that can easily overtake and overpower them.
