good going hikers. That was text book for what you should do. Gather together and make to look to the bear like a big beast waving arms and making noise. Beautiful.
Sabrina Dugan I know this is an old comment, but yeah, the hump on it’s back is the easiest way to identify a grizzly bear. The reason why you can’t identify it by it’s fur color is because black bears can have lots of different fur colors, including the brown color that is associated with grizzlies.
If that bird hadn't swooped down and startled the bear he probably wouldnt have walked away from that last group. He wasnt feeling quite so badass after the bird.
Plot twist- The bear is putting on a show for the camera while his bear friend sneaks up behind them. Seriously, this video was great, from the dive bombing seagull to the unsuspecting hikers, to the stalkerish behavior of the bear, the conversation going on and the sounds of nature. I haven't seen a video I enjoyed this much in a while. Thank you for not butchering the video with music. I felt like I was right there with you guys.
West Virginia and texas have the exact same accent . My family is from West Virginia . I was born there ,but after a year I grew up in Ohio. All my relatives are in Gods country . That's what some people call it lol.
Juvenile bears can be dangerous because once they separate from the mother sow, they have to find and catch their own food. It's easier for them to seek out human sources of food like campsites, trash and idiot tourists who feed them, then become dependent and expect to be fed every time they see an unsuspecting human going by.
The video is unique in what it portrays, and so it is worth posting in spite of the shaky camera. It is an eye opener on many levels, as addressed in other comments.
The sad fact of the matter is that the national parks have become 'bear museums' where nosey humans go to gawk at bears and stress out the bears as clearly shown here.
Oh no the poor bear was looked at by humans. How will he ever cope? God help him. Hopefully he has a good bearapist he can talk to about this traumatic event in his life.
Read "Taken by bear in Yellowstone" if you want to understand the danger of interacting with any bear. Even the early Native American Indians were rightly fearful of Grizzlies. They were extremely strong and hard to kill, occasionally hunting humans. And that was before all the tons of garbage feeding and tents full of yummy smelling toothpaste and shampoo started flooding in...
At 7:38 they are within just a arms length from that bear. This explains the number of missing people in Alaska. There could just as easily been 50 more bears right there napping in the weeds totally undetected.
The lady piping up with the bird story needs to learn how to read the room. Ain’t no one interested in that while watching a grizzly bear toy with some tourists 🤣🤣😆
I must say... whatever you're filming this on has GREAT resolution and motion capture. Which is unfortunate, because I've been drinnking wine and I am actually a bit sick right now. Great video though!
Tyler Stender thanks. As soon as I saw it was a long video I came looking for a comment like yours. It's all too familiar: the title gives you expectations and then you get bogged down in extraneousness. ,so thanks
HAVE to add this from Robert Jensen, whose post I just read: "When I go to Alaska, I don't want to be around the same idiots I have to stand in line with at Disneyland". I just posted me comment a few minutes ago, but he sums up my emotions much better than my prose. I KNEW I felt sick when seeing this - and not from the shaky camera.... it was from the voices in the video - those who were "waiting to be entertained".
Lisa Heisler Sorry, but I think you both are really overreacting. This is just a roadside overlook/picnic area, one of many you can find in Alaska. Grab a backpack, quad map, and an orienteering compass, then take a hiking trail (or game trail and take off across country if you lived in a forest or the bush for a while), go for about an hour or more in the right direction and I guarantee you will be a few miles from the nearest road, dwelling, or crowd of people. You will hear no talking, yelling, cars, buses, or trucks. Keep going and you can spent many days without ever seeing another person. I'm amazed at people who want solitude, yet they look to find it in the, convenience, safety, and crowds of a blacktop highway. If you want a real wilderness experience, then there is some work and a learning curve involved.
Lisa Heisler Says You and Robert Jensen, two people who don’t even live in Alaska, but see themselves as superior to everyone else. Calling people idiots when you’ve absolutely zero clue as to what you’re talking about nor do you have an ounce of respect for other people. You’re just one of those “I love animals so much” people that seems to forget your fellow human beings are animals too and if you’re really going for that “at one with nature” vibe it’s all about having respect for all living things period. Not just the ones you think are cute.
He was only trying to get away. Even when he went on the trail he retreated. And when he went back to the people he was going back to the river away from other people.
This is a great teaching video! THE BEST! Run it again under today's date so more people may see it also. This should make everyone think who plans on hiking and remaining alert at all times!
Authorities in urban and cities are failing to advise people that bears have been spotted in their neigjborhoods. And these are bears with trackers on. Wildlife resources know exactly the whereabouts of bears. Be prepared people. Resources are all for the bear, and not concerned about human life. If a part of the ocean is shut down because of shark activity, why are there no signs erected to warn people of bear activity?
Lmao I love how people go on their vacations from the city and think they can treat a bear like they do a bum does when he asks for a cigarette or a dollar. "Just walk fast and dont make eye contact with him, he will go away".
Take note that what scares the bear is not the bird itself but the bird's shadow. On the bird's second pass (at 2:33), from right to left, the shadow intersects the bear's shadow exactly.
That might be true, but honestly, at that moment it will probably be the hardest thing to do in your life!!! Those beasts are so scary,🤤😨😨😨😲 they view everything as a maybe new item to eat and keep alive. They struggle for survival, with most of their territory being invaded by us selfish humans. Oh well,. But I am glad the group was not hurt and that they pulled together as One, that probably saved them their lives. 🙄😫
This was intense! 3 seperate close encounters from 1 bear. Wow! It was like no matter which direction the bear chose, he was encountering humans. Makes you wonder if he ended up wondering if he was the one being hunted towards the end. Lol It's also a great vid that kind of gives us an inside glimpse of what it must have been like 100s or 1000s of years ago for humans living along the side of predators. It is also a reminder that there are some who still live amongst some of the largest and most deadliest predators right now as we speak all over the world. Thank you for sharing.
As a result of dumb tourists Alaskan national parks now display this notice. "In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle the bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains a lot of berry seeds and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper spray."
All these comments about bringing guns. I understand that people want to protect themselves, but I guess my perspective is from the bear who is just trying to move around in his habitat and there are people in every direction. You can't blame the bear for coming across these people. That is why I watch most things from afar. Yes it would be nice to visit remote places but I also want to respect the inhabitants.
The comments aren't saying shoot the bear at firsy sight. Of course you try to shout at it, make yourself as large as you can, bear spray if you have it and your gun can actual fire nonlethal projectiles. But I sure would have a real firearm for back up
Having a gun doesn't mean you have to shoot at it, you can always fire 5-10 feet away from it, it also creates the bang which would scare the eff out of it. Having a gun is always better than not having one.
So... This is filmed at Savage river rest stop in Denali National Park Alaska..... A popular stroll for the visitors... This is a rare encounter... Interesting thing here...when the people first put their hands up...they think they are under arrest... They still haven't seen the bear.... They are just reacting to the Rangers commands.... I have seen this interaction from another angle. Also the Ranger involved was narrating the footage as it was being shown. The bear btw must be at least 3 yrs old otherwise it would have still been with it's mom. I work at the park.
Steven Brosius when I was watching, I noticed at least one lady noticed the bear before they put their hands up, also the bear was tiny, o think it really was a cup lol, no but just big dog size
@@JulianLopez-wv5el hi ... I was told what happened by the law enforcement officer.... Sure everything is open to interpretation... Just sharing what he told and he was there... Yes it was a juvenile bear but it is still a potentially dangerous situation... This bear may still have weighed in about 300 lbs and would be capable of causing serious injury .... Grissly bears are not inherently dangerous or aggressive unless the right set of circumstances arises... A wise person will do everything they can to ensure those circumstances do not arise. Hence the actions taken by the Ranger.
Steven Brosius um yea bull shit that's why they started running before they put their hands up. Lmao under arrest yea nice one. If that ranger told you that you seen the video yourself so obviously it wasn't true. Besides people don't stick there hands all the way up inn the a air when there under arrest especially when no ones pointing a gun at them
@@jakesontiano yes the people saw the bear. Yes they started to run. The LEO ( Law Enforcement Officer) was on the other side of the river off camera. The video footage l saw was filmed from behind the LEO so I could see the officer, the tourists and the bear. The officer involved was showing the footage filmed by a different tourist from a different angle to all the staff at the season opening of Denali National Park. He was also describing the event step by step. He apparently shouted to the tourists when they started to run. He told them to stop immediately and put their hands in the air. The point of this is to negate the bears natural 'chase' instinct. Also to make yourself appear bigger than you are. This is standard protocol when in a bear encounter. After the event people themselves told the LEO that they initially thought they where in some kind of trouble and had done something wrong and that he was arresting them. Obviously that thought did not stay with them long. May l also share that when people are in tourist mode they are let's say a little switched off.... relaxing on vacation. Not thinking properly. Also many of the people who come to Denali..... this is there first experience of the wilderness and wildlife. So there is a detachment and a non understanding of what is happening. I am just sharing the information as relayed to a room full of people at Denali National Park by the LEO who was involved in the incident. So please try to be less judgemental. Thanks.
@Douche Baguette yes that is the correct way to act when a brown/grissly bear approaches you. If you run .....the bear will chase you and probably maul you / kill you. The act of standing your ground , rasing your arms and shouting will 90% of the time deter the bear. As you can see in this video.
Go to Denali & see this everyday. Rangers will yell instruction but they don’t approach the bears. The bus tours are cool. But hiking & being safe is cooler. As long as you understand that you’re the visitor & not suppose to interrupt bear behavior.
I am all good with hiking around Mountain lions and killer bears. I live in Northern New Hampshire and I hike in the White Mountains where I’m never scared of being eaten.
99.999999% of human bear encounters end this way unless people do something to excite the bear like running away screaming. Stay as calm as you can, let the bear know you are human by talking loud enough for it to hear you, no need to scream or sound threatening. You should never go hiking in bear country unless you are prepared for a bear encounter. Educate yourself first so you know what to do in bear country and your chances of having a bad day will be very, very low.
It's possible, that people had fed this bear, somewhere in the past. He's actually looking for food. When a bear attacks, they break into a dead run, with no hestitation.
Joey Point He’s not stalking anybody. He is a hungry older bear cub, he is looking for human food, not humans to eat. He should still be with his mother. He will be lucky if he survives.
People are so stupied. They should get a ticket of about $5,000. and Im sure people would stop playing with there life and bears life. Some people can be big jerks.
Reminded me of The Gods Must Be Crazy 2. Little kid holds piece of wood over his head to make himself taller and avoid animal attack. I wonder if that was the ranger's idea, or maybe had thoughts of shooting them of they hurt the bear. Heh.

good going hikers. That was text book for what you should do. Gather together and make to look to the bear like a big beast waving arms and making noise. Beautiful.
It’s a young bear, still a cub. Never showed any real signs of aggression.
Clay Robert I agree, curiosity mostly, but that can turn dangerous quickly.
More like curiosity, which can be equally as dangerous.
Great guys thanks to your expert opinion lol. I suppose you all working grizzly management?
@Sabrina Dugan yes and the ears .
I love the picnic tables located where the bears can see and smell you but you can't see them!
The camera is so clear and crisp. You never see video like this on UA-cam.
So clearly crisp and clear and shaking and erratic and nauseating.
Gotta love a family with Texas accents giving advice a half mile away. LOL
West Virginia and texas have the exact same accent . My family is from West Virginia . I was born there ,but after a year I grew up in Ohio. All my relatives are in Gods country . That's what some people call it lol.
@@roymanning8893 that song West Virginia was all a lie
Grizzly: Get off my lawn...
they can smell for like 5 miles, right?
0 to 35 mph in seconds?
don't dawdle, folks.
Raven 222 black bears can smell a carcass from 75 miles away...I think.
Sorry, it's 20 miles, I checked.
MsFair
It’s still madness
If they can smell that far. Cant imagine how they suffer if they smell a fart poor bear
carlos they probably like to guess what you ate
Juvenile bears can be dangerous because once they separate from the mother sow, they have to find and catch their own food. It's easier for them to seek out human sources of food like campsites, trash and idiot tourists who feed them, then become dependent and expect to be fed every time they see an unsuspecting human going by.
The video is unique in what it portrays, and so it is worth posting in spite of the shaky camera. It is an eye opener on many levels, as addressed in other comments.

Yeah that people need to get outside a lot more.
People are so casual about approaching this ultra powerful critter
The one dude is obsessed seeing a red jacket man lol
His lover
Maybe it's a hint for a Christmas present ;)
Lol
yeah, he thinks its a bull
The sad fact of the matter is that the national parks have become 'bear museums' where nosey humans go to gawk at bears and stress out the bears as clearly shown here.
Deschutes Maple hell yes SO TRUE!!!
Oh no the poor bear was looked at by humans. How will he ever cope? God help him. Hopefully he has a good bearapist he can talk to about this traumatic event in his life.
Shut the fuck up. You are so clueless it's laughable
'bearapist' haha!!!
“Is that a black bear?”
“Does it fucking look black, Karen?!”
Great video though!
i was about to complain about the camera shake when I read your own comment, you're alright! Thank you for the video!
You guys are crazy because you're the type of people would have a Grizzly shot when it's really just trying to avoid everybody
Yeah I felt bad for the bear...and no one else.
Agreed... stupid comments from stupid people😒
*in the midst of almost grizzly attack* "YOu SeE, tHe mUgHaL"
7:50 ur welcome
Tyler Stender why would you want to skip a video involving a bear in the wild ...slow down and watch nature at its finest
Squatting Squirrel I did. Then i decided to write 7:50 so everyone that came to watch for the Title of the video could enjoy... #urwelcome
Tyler Stender thanks. As soon as I saw it was a long video I came looking for a comment like yours. It's all too familiar: the title gives you expectations and then you get bogged down in extraneousness. ,so thanks
Nick Name no problem
His Indian name is Dropping Turd.
this is like a nature documentary about humans in the alaskian outskirts narrated by humans
Lisa Heisler
Sorry, but I think you both are really overreacting.
@@frankkolton1780 hell yeah kill it and grill it.God loves you deeply Shalom
Lisa Heisler Says You and Robert Jensen, two people who don’t even live in Alaska, but see themselves as superior to everyone else.
Calling people idiots when you’ve absolutely zero clue as to what you’re talking about nor do you have an ounce of respect for other people. You’re just one of those “I love animals so much” people that seems to forget your fellow human beings are animals too and if you’re really going for that “at one with nature” vibe it’s all about having respect for all living things period. Not just the ones you think are cute.
every single time the bear does something the guy filming is like OH HE'S LOOKING. OH HE'S GOING. OH HE'S MOVING.
The bear probably smelled anime on them
He was only trying to get away.
It teaches how NOT to make a video. Violent shaking made this unwatchable.
bear acts like bear......
Lmao I love how people go on their vacations from the city and think they can treat a bear like they do a bum does when he asks for a cigarette or a dollar. "Just walk fast and dont make eye contact with him, he will go away".
Troy Baker 😂😂😂
Take note that what scares the bear is not the bird itself but the bird's shadow. On the bird's second pass (at 2:33), from right to left, the shadow intersects the bear's shadow exactly.
Judging by the conversation going on I'm doubting anyone is armed
Those two guys did the right thing in walking toward the bear. You need to make the bear think you're not afraid and not prey.
Terrific video, apart from some rapid panning and shakes. Bit of drama, lovely scenery and happy all, including the bear, emerged unscathed.
People are almost attacked by a bear... And this wacky woman is giving a class on a bird. 😜
“Oh that was quite exciting”
Wtf 🤣
@@nadaleenatasha 😆 😆
Too many people just enough Bears
Bear spray? If I was going there I'd be carrying a cow leg.
Yeah so that you can attract all the bears in the neighborhood, and few Polars up North from the Arctic.
even when the game warden is in eyesight, doesn't mean they can protect you.!
Love that everyone behind a camera becomes an expert.
This group's commentary is hilariously epic!! 😂
Bear: Oh shit im surrounded
This was intense! 3 seperate close encounters from 1 bear. Wow! It was like no matter which direction the bear chose, he was encountering humans. Makes you wonder if he ended up wondering if he was the one being hunted towards the end. Lol
It's also a great vid that kind of gives us an inside glimpse of what it must have been like 100s or 1000s of years ago for humans living along the side of predators.
The “bird education” lady is hilarious. Let’s just ignore the bear attack & talk about bird nesting habits 🙄
Msgtmustang Guns are smart in wilderness and concrete locations
The comments aren't saying shoot the bear at firsy sight. Of course you try to shout at it, make yourself as large as you can, bear spray if you have it and your gun can actual fire nonlethal projectiles. But I sure would have a real firearm for back up
Having a gun doesn't mean you have to shoot at it, you can always fire 5-10 feet away from it, it also creates the bang which would scare the eff out of it. Having a gun is always better than not having one.
@@douglasreents6578 Non lethal projectiles on a brown bear. Sadly not the funniest comment here, but thats pretty decent.
People: oh look a bear fishing
Bear: a flock of people yummy 😋
Go to Denali & see this everyday. Rangers will yell instruction but they don’t approach the bears. The bus tours are cool. But hiking & being safe is cooler. As long as you understand that you’re the visitor & not suppose to interrupt bear behavior.
Can't agree more
I’m going this weekend. Sunny forecast. Tourists and busses gone. Open to drive 30 miles in now.
Just a bear searching for river treasure.
Somebody save the red jacket!!! My god they’re alone😂
I am all good with hiking around Mountain lions and killer bears. I live in Northern New Hampshire and I hike in the White Mountains where I’m never scared of being eaten.
They bearly scaped.
Best bear comment :. "...is that a BLACK bear???" Lol
These people had a good vantage point and could see mostly everything.
Smart action to ward off that curious bear! He saw a massive java the hut-looking beast, no wonder why he scampered off!
They handled that grizzly encounter like champs! They acted like it was nothing.
When Jersey/New Yorkers, goes to Alaska. Even the bears don't want them.
lol.
Can you cut down on your drinking when filming?
🤣
People almost just got mauled by a grizzly, but tour guide thinks a seagull from calif. is more interesting.
Darwin Awards
Jeanette Waverly yeah let’s go for a little stroll on a game trail!!
Tourists trolling for bears
It's possible, that people had fed this bear, somewhere in the past.
He's actually looking for food.
When a bear attacks, they break into a dead run, with no hestitation.
Be in a big group to appear like a big meal, like a supersize meal.
Lot of drama over a bear just being a bear. A bear is a very curious animal. If he was going to charge or even attack it would have happened early on.
Scary how the bear was still stalking them from the bushes 9:48
thats what bears do
Joey Point: Why do people act surprised when they go into bear country, and get stalked by a bear ?
Joey Point He’s not stalking anybody. He is a hungry older bear cub, he is looking for human food, not humans to eat. He should still be with his mother. He will be lucky if he survives.
Joey Point he's was a very hungry bear.lol
I can't see it

Hard to take you seriously when you misspell stupid
Almost as big a jerk as the person that wants to charge people $5000 for walkin in a public park
Why are people stupid? God gave humans dominion over all the earth. We can enjoy and respect creation...learn to live together.
Goes to show, bears are not aggressive towards humans.
Hand up don’t shoot! Those tourists almost got shot by that bear, good thing they had their hands up and didn’t resist the bear.
Reminded me of The Gods Must Be Crazy 2. Little kid holds piece of wood over his head to make himself taller and avoid animal attack. I wonder if that was the ranger's idea, or maybe had thoughts of shooting them of they hurt the bear. Heh.
I felt sorry for the bear and the ones trying to watch this vídeo
