A Tele into a Fender Twin, no pedals, no effects everything in his head and his hands. He was such an influence on my own blues playing. And such a tragic end. Miss you Roy.
@@LoveBandit1000 Roy was playing Tele's made by a local friend Rodge Fritz, Fritz Brothers Guitars, his last years. I've still got an old VHS promotional tape he made for Roger stashed away somewhere.
Surprised me with this one!...35 years ago when I started playing guitar, Roy was one of my first blues influences (by accident) after listening to Roy’s Blues! He has a basic raw playing style that is unpolished ....yet effective!.....Thanks, very cool!
Fortunate to have a chance to see in a club in London (1984?-maybe) Dingwals. His manager introduced me to David Bowie, who was there to see Roy-they were friends...unfortunately I was so stoned that night I was speechless. I barely remember any of Roy's playing ----damn shame too..wow. But I do remember having a lot of fun that night....hahahah
Well done......I like you.....you're pleasant, honest, and open to discover and appreciate new ("to you") musical artists and styles, and your comments are intelligent and to the point.......again, I say, well done......
The world of good music (let alone all music) is so vast, we are all still learning unless we are closed to trying. I hadn't heard or seen this cover before. My favorite Hendrix material is from what I think was his last studio album, Cry of Love. Easy Rider, and Freedom, being the standout tracks for me.
Substance abuse killed Roy. My God I'll never understand it. Nobody better than Roy, a needless loss. He was the best. Hopefully he is at peace now, away from the Demons that tormented him. He, Danny Gatton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan were my favorites of all time. And they are all gone. So sad.
I'm still arrogant and ignorant about music. I'm a singer and a drummer, but I ain't heard this. The blues have almost always left me dry, but this was very cool. Great video, Ruben. Love the channel!
he born in 39 , was alone on rd about when he was 14 .. when he was about 15/16 he mentoted the older robbie roberson for few months to get him up to speed .. was doing those sounds by 60 ... he was the guitarist lther 60s up and comers came to see and hear and learn from .. that whole 35min 76 austin city limits texas session , with that band , is a masterclass (every tune ) in heavenly emotional demon speaking guitar .... the demons that killed him he let out in his playing .. probably the best unknown .. as he was known ..
I really enjoy seeing new fans when viewing this one....I remember seeing this on Austin City Limits when it first broadcast. Me and a buddy sitting on the floor with illegal smiles and our mouths hanging open.
Ruben it's good that you're open to new things. You wouldn't know it from my request history but I have listened to and do listen to a lot of heavy metal... however you are pretty knowledgeable (translation, probably more than I am) in that genre so I try hard to find tunes and performances from other genres that could appeal to you.

People came to see Roy play the Telecaster, it's too bad the camera person didn't know that. Shots behind the band and close ups of his face while he was playing real cool licks were really disappointing.
AWESOME.. but you MUST react to Roy's live version of DOWN BY THE RIVER. Maybe the best solo in history.. and remember.. he used NO PEDDLES. No one. And I mean no one can recreate the sounds he made without peddles
Friend! You need to check out Avatars first single from the new album coming in august, Silence in the Age of Apes! I was seriously blown away :) Johannes is as always incredible on the vocals and since it's a new album, it's an entire new look for the band :) Sound and otherwise. Please do! And did you ever go to that liveshow you spoke about in "the king wants you"-video? Much curious :D Greetings from avatars own country and city :D
Please, react to Disma - Chasm of Oceanus. It's the greatest and filthiest death metal track you have ever heard. The vocals are something out of this world. It's better than anything Blood Incantation has ever put out. ;)

And he turned it up to "11" and faced the amp AWAY from the audience (just like here)....

Great natural reaction. Roy is a true phenomenon. Skill next level. I don't think I've ever seen someone play so effortlessly
You have to remember to breathe when Roy is playing, a true master

Absolutely genius and underated talent. Tone doesn't get any better.
Straight up ear candy and bliss.
Roy had such a magnificent tone.. timeless class
the greatest guitarplayer in rock and roll history best of the best masterclass rip roy miss you
Excited to see this one! I have listened to this version - dare I say I prefer it to Hendrix's version?.. Glad to see you were a fan too!
Its far superior to Hendrix version
It's not a Jimmy Hendrix song it's a country song by Billy Roberts
Holy shit!! Amazing. Thank you.
Spot on. Your honest, respectful reaction is refreshing. RB was a master.
Roy didn’t care about vocals. He was going to bash you over the head with that guitar whether you liked it or not .

Great video, Ruben. Love the channel!
Saw Roy 7xs! Miss you, Roy!!!💝
Try Roy Buchanon "the messiah will come again".
Loved the way he ended it with just a fade and a smile like, "yeah that's it"
One reason Roy "owned it" is he had this playing style long long before Hendrix

The pain on your face when you couldn't see his hands, I felt that too
Yo!
Just so ya know, "Hey Joe" was originally recording by the Leaves, not Hendrix :)
When I saw him in 78..The Leaves guy came onstage and played harmonica..my 18th bday. Roy's in heaven now..bless him

There was put a lot of feel in it, but I felt a few parts were pushed over the limit.
Must recommend his cover of Green Onions.
Try his song When a Guitar Plays the Blues. It'll blow your mind.
Much better than Hendrix.
Hendrix greatness was he was an innovator more than just technical ability.
@@fender1000100 He was still better than Hendrix, Roy didn't rely on effects pedals.
