Hes the Holy Grail of guitarists . A true Guitar God. It doesnt get any better. Hes almost toying with us. Unlimited skills. I was in awe instantly and i knew from watching you react to other artists you would LOVE him
I met Roy when he was playing at a small venue with less than 200 people. I had a few beers and talked with him; he was a down-home guy, one of the greatest guitarists ever. Jeff Beck and Gary Moore considered him the Master and dedicated songs to him. The greatest unknown player in the world. There are no pedals or tricks, just Roy, the guitar, bending strings, the nobs, and the whammy bar. He died in a local small-town jail cell under mysterious circumstances. RIP Roy.
Thanks @clifton8929 - I met him only briefly and still shared a laugh among friends with him like we had been hanging out for years. The rest of what you say is right on - and the end still so annoying and mysterious.
I saw Roy around 1980 in a small theater, we were close, it was amazing seeing his hands move and the sounds he was getting out of that old, beat up Fender Telecaster. Utterly masterful, do his cover of Hey Joe and listen in wonder! Enjoy. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥
Saw Roy at the Orpheum Theater in Boston in I think 72. His performing "The Messiah Will Come Again" was a moving experience. The whole place was moved.. Happy trails Roy!
Finger dexterity? HE would take his fingers out of joint into a ball .Dislocating each finger, and had exercises he did t extend it. Roy was a Master of guitar, a Legend, and those who know his music, are aficionados extraordinaire. He sold out Carnegie hall before his first Lp came out, i believe. Monumental accomplishment for one man. Back then anyways.
His right pinky manipulation of volume n tone controls raising it and lowering it he taught or influenced Jeff Beck. Roy was pre Elvis began in 53' at 15. Country Blues Jazz n Rock. He influenced many many greats. At 7 he began studying Steel guitar und a Mrs Pressure in California at age 8 he mastered Steel Guitar. Your analogy is SUPERB CRYING SOULFUL WAILING MOURNING WHALES . There's no one that played this effortlessly. Perfect Tone. TeleMaster
Roy Buchanan was fearless, flying his Telecaster into space.
