100% agree on the convertible thing. I have had my Miata since 06 and I can't imagine ever letting it go, as long as it is dry and the road is also you can drive with the top down - the heater in this thing is like sitting in front of hair dryers when you turn them up, so even freezing temperatures is okay.
I never thought I would be a convertible fan. I felt that it would feel too exposed or showy. That was until I got one as a rental…I had a blast! The open air and visibility had me hooked immediately. I’d love to have one now just as a summer car.
Don’t know what your budget is, but Audi/BMW/Mercedes all have convertible (cabriolet) models in their lineups with All-Wheel Drive so you can drive them in the winter. They even have what they call “heat scarves” to blow warm air on the back of your head so you can drive them with the top down in the middle of winter! Lol

Never wanted one myself, bought a 2004 SAAB 93 Vert for my daughter as a Grad present in 2019, she rejected it (Manual), and now am a convert. Thought it would be cheaper than a mistress, was mistaken, but it did encourage leaving the wife who disparaged it, life’s been blissful every Spring since.
My 2018 Ecoboost has the 6 speed manual and it is fantastic. The 2024 has a few more ponies under the hood, but mine has all the power this 74 year old can handle.
I have a 22 gt manual. Nothing beats the sound of the V8. When I take it in for an oil change I can always tell when they start it up. Even the biggest trucks don’t sound as loud. Good on Ford to keep offering three pedals. Not a huge fan of the screens in the new one. Love the review though.
Oh, you're so right about convertibles; every top-down ride was like being on a vacation. Had two BMW convertibles but now have a more practical Subie Forester which is also great.

Convertibles: In the Summer of 1971 I cruised around town in a gold metallic Pontiac Grand Ville convertible. I felt like ''a million bucks''...until I had to do some long-distance driving.
I have always loved Mustangs. But with all the advances in technology I have come to realize that I am more of a enthusiast of sound rather than performance. The eco boost vs V8 GT number have proven to me. Maybe why so many dislike EVs.
I'm afraid you lose points on not owning a Mustang at some point in time in your life :), but I concur on the convertible. Mine was '05 Mustang GT. Black. Manual transmission (best manual I ever drove) Insurance/storage/need to get another car for winter (I live in MN, winter driving was out of the question) made me eventually sell it. Still miss that car. Mustangs know what they are and what they aren't, and Ford has done a good job of coloring within the lines.
Ha! When I moved from MN to Seattle, I thought "perfect, I can own a convertible now". My fiancé (a Seattle native) looked at me like I was on mushrooms. But I still own it 32 years later. Same with the fiancé (now Mrs.).
I had ordeted a 4 cylider , no AC. No power windows or locks. Only otption was Recaro seats.. That was an option due to the 1979 Indy Pacer, as was called the.
I wonder what the story is with the extra piece for the edge of the decklid instead of have one stamping? Looks like some sort of a compromise? Any intel on this engineering decision? Also, it is going to be difficult to clean the bugs from the two front side grills because there is a space between the grill and the flat back plate...where the bugs will splatter.
Excellent footage and review as always Mr. Voelk. A couple of questions: the last time you drove with "youthful exuberance" in the wet was in a VW GTI,. right? Also, what are those sneaky little white LED lights in the top inside corners of the grill? 2:42
Ford ought to offer a manual with the Ecoboost engine for enthusiasts who want the better weight, economy and range of the 4-cylinder. Having owned a Ford Focus ST, I can vouch for the great torque and smooth power delivery of an Ecoboost engine.

It's a shame the turbo-4 isn't available with a manual. Manuals are always a better match for 4-cylinders and, if you are trying to save money by getting the 4, that would be a good way to get the price down further.
The 10-speed is superior in every way and is a far better match for the Ecoboost. A huge part of getting the most out of a turbo four is having it in the right RPM range. 10 speeds allows you to do that far better than 6.

It's a shame that Mother Nature robbed you of some top-down fun, but there are worse ways to spend time no matter what! As a long-time Mustang fan and owner of a stick-shift GT, the design of this latest rendition has grown on me, and I don't think the screens would bother me (haven't gotten a test drive yet), but I'm not looking to replace my 28 year old car with this just yet. The V8 powered GT is the choice I'd make, but I'd reserve the decision on the stick vs. auto until I drove both. I enjoy going through the gears, but driving a stick can get tedious in normal everyday use (commuting, errands, etc.). The sound of the V8 triggers something down deep that I can't overcome, no matter what the specs say about the power numbers of the ecoboost. After driving the 4-banger, it's perfectly fine, but not the audible and visceral experience that I would be looking for. The problem is that the V8 produces more power than can ever really be utilized when not on the track. There's so much there, that getting to the fun driving means that you're also doing near triple digit speeds, which is not something anyone with brains should be doing on any public roadway. What I would be interested in, is an electric version as a third powertrain option. Take out that unnecessary 4-banger, transmission, gas tank and all those other parts that support the gas engine and replace them with a dual motor or tri-motor EV setup, and now you have my attention! I so wanted Ford to introduce an EV version of this body style. The Mach E is a fine crossover EV, but it's not the same as a 2-door coupe/convertible experience. If anyone at Ford is listening, please be exploring this before 2030...

My moms was born in New Mexico. I had Aunts, uncles and cousins there and went there evbery summer....... So i was at that dealership . Ok thast another weird part of tjis story that would take a while to explain. But think turbo charging a 4 banger before the Japanese...
Tom, There is a lot to like with the Mustang but this much power sent exclusively to the rear wheels means all Mustangs should have a limited slip differential.
So I have a question Tom. Has anyone actually done testing comparing Brembo to Stock brakes off the track? Do you really need the best brakes in the world to enjoy your time in this car? Driving through the North Cascades or Whidbey Island or the Olympic Peninsula with the top down is perfect in a convertible. Far better than a claustrophobic coupe.
You didn't necessarily need Brembos for everyday driving, it's as much about the fade resistance as it is stopping power and that's only going to be tested on the track. However, there have been situations where I'm glad my car didn't take an extra foot to stop, so maybe the better brakes are always worth it.
@@DrivenCarReviews I remember watching a Jay Leno video where he was advised AGAINST ordering the Brembo’s for his new McClaren specifically because he wasn’t taking it to the track. And I just looked at the Build it section on Ford’s website. No 2024 convertibles available even to build. Curious.
I forget where I saw it on the internet but I think it was brembos website where they tested them against regular breaks and the difference was very little
So to cut story shorter. I actually made $8.00 AN hour then. (minimume wage was $2.35/2.60 back then) . I had my own cash. For the aformention 4 banger. Again think a crazy 18 tteen young dude that made more money than his dad... Ok again back to my Black, Recaroed out, 4 speed, no options , 49 state legal Mustang. Stuck in Cororado....😢. My family and I going to leave NM in 2 days from then. I did not have enough money for the V8 no frills Indy Pacer that dealer had out front and center on A display rack. Yes in the very front almost in the street.... So the 4 bander i was going to turbo charge, lower , tint the windows and throw an after-market sound system(again i made more legal money than most drug dealers).
Had 3 Mustang Verts of newer models, Camaro is actually a better buy. Especially if you want a top performance Vert. The 2023/2024 ZL1 Vert is the better buy... at least for now
This car is almost perfect, but seriously, why not make the interior materials a bit nicer? I don’t get it. If you need, just raise the price by $2,000-5,000 for an interior improvement. That’s not that much money to invest in the interior. The car would still sell well

A Mustang without a stick - I can get that, after all it is an Amermican car. But two tablets stitched together? Nah. Maybe on a Nissan GT-R, but not on a Mustang - looks cheap, and I wonder how they will work in 20 years, much less in 50 years. Electronic dashboards of the 1980s looked more elaborate, not just pixels on a flat screen. I chuckled about the water-tight top - was it an issue with old Mustangs that you mentioned it?
The good thing about Mustang is that old dudes and dudetts buy them to feel young again and drive them... well... like old folks. Then, a couple of years down the road you get ones that are pretty much new on the cheap.

Curious.
I forget where I saw it on the internet but I think it was brembos website where they tested them against regular breaks and the difference was very little
Torque was higher on the previous model.
Best mustang yet... although, I would be one to convert that disgusting computer interface with analog gauges.
The car would still sell well
So I was at a Frienfs house
He had a 1968 Ss Camero..yes i smoked him.....But his friend I did not know was there.
Vehicles still available with a fixed mast antenna,
Chevy Express/GMC Savana
Ford F Series trucks
Ford E series vans
Ford Transit
Pre refresh Wrangler and gladiator
GMC/Chevy full size trucks
Mazda Miata
GMC Canyon/Chevy Colorado
Ram 1500 CLASSIC
I’m sure I’m missing one or two ha
Yup. But I said "car" and all but the Miata are trucks. Jeep Wrangler has one. .
@@DrivenCarReviews But for 2024 the Wrangler and Gladiator have it in the windshield! Wasn’t trying to correct you or anything!
Tom, how many times did you knock your head geting in and out of the car?
Not once.
not sure about the redesign... would need to see it in person, but that backend wasn't appealing. And the blackout hides the cool designs of the car. I got my hybrid, and soon it will be convertible mustang (I like the outgoing version the best though). Still seems like a good value. call it my midlife crises car.
I need to find a house with a bigger garage.
Cool!!!
I would never get that as a convertible, or even get a sunroof, just more stuff to haul around and that can break, and it will eventually.
pflasiuesllllll!! Froot loops out my nose!!!! SIXTY SIX THOUSAND FOR A MUSTANG!?!?!??
I was18. Paid cash I earned my self.
So no 4 banger. And not enough money for the Indy Pacer......😢😢😢
My father and I left the dealership . Both deep i depressio. (Again yet another long story...ok my dad and his buddies were SHade Tree mechanics) So he knew exactly what I was going to do with the 4 banger. He was almost 😢 as me.....as we left the dealership.
I was very sad....for 48 hours i just stayed in the room(at my Aunts house.) I mean everybody was very concerned with me. What was I go8ng to do.
So we are leaving tommorow. No new Mustang to work on. Do my magic on.
I was very distraught....
U know the feelin. The first girlfreind. The first holding hands. The first going to the Matinee. 😂 . With her parents just behind us😇.
Then the firstbreakup. No. Deeper than that. Way deeper. Cuz there will be other girl friends. Many. Many. Many more girlfriends.
But never that first car. BLACK MUSTANG. V8 4SPEED that u, I was going to turn it a road going, every day driv8ng show car. Men envied and woman wanted to be in. Deeper than the Pacific Ocean....the word deppresion is no deep enough.
So i am laying there. Very hungry cuz i jadnt eatin. ( ate constantly then) 16:54
Then I hear. Wait for it..........
............................,.......................
VAROOM,VAROOM VAROOM.
And the AROOM GOT LOUDER. AND LOUDER. AND LOUDER...
VAROOM. VAROOM. VAROOM.
i am thinkng what the heck is going on.
I slowly walk to the window amd look out it.....
What the FUDGEcycle.
My dad. The car. The car.
I go out side..."What he..ck are u doing. See I did not have enough money for the Pace car. So i said quit frick fricken with me..
He said,and i qoute.
"IT,S YOURS" What the heck er ,ll did you say.
"ITS YOURS" HEsaid
Ok. Another short long story.....
"IT,S YOURS"
Will this be a classic car by 2050?
arguably a car has to be at least 30 years old to be a classic, so no
Thanks. I wwill not drive an auto. Unless its someelse car. By the way, my 2010 only has 74 k miles on it. I mostly have worked close to home. And many times road a bicycle.
You're a freak if you're over 5'-9. Cheers.
Well, I'm not over 5'9" so I guess I'm not a freak.
The blackout trim is really a turn-off for me. Never in a million years would I buy the car you reviewed. On the other hand, the GT/CS is a "pretty" car, and it's the one I'd choose.
You'd save money by not getting it. There's a win.
U must understand I had gratuated in June. This was September the following year, 1980...
The filth gen is still the best looking of the modern stangs
Yeah filth gen
The new GT is great. Just swap the tire with PS4S. Stock P-Zeros are garbage.
Will never be able to afford one.
Get a job.
$66,000 seems like too much money. You can buy a new BMW MANUAL M2 for the same money..
Yes but repairs on the M2 is going to be a whole different ball game
Yes.... I do not like Cameroes or FBs. I ate them for a snack
Why does Ford keep putting that dopey manual latch to open the convertible top? Everybody else figured out how to do it without a latch.
2010-2014 at least leak very badly....even the coupes...😅
The good thing about Mustang is that old dudes and dudetts buy them to feel young again and drive them... well... like old folks. Then, a couple of years down the road you get ones that are pretty much new on the cheap.
I guess this is the reason for no manual on the four-banger.
I’m 58 yo, I have a ‘24 vert GT. With a manual. I take it to the redline at least once on every trip. Got a ticket for 86mph. Shop wisely……
2400 pou ds. 525 RWh....do the math.......
iPad dash. No - thank you.
