Wow. That is beautiful, and you made it seem so easy. I haven't gotten-in any wheel practice in a few months now - I miss the wheel, and must get back to it soon. For this piece that you've demonstrated here, being that it is already marbled, would you just use a clear glaze to finish it off, or what???
So sorry I missed your message! The wheel is so much fun. Yes, get back at it! I used clear on this piece. These also look great if part of it is glazed with a solid color and some left raw. A nice contrast
Did you cone it extra because of less wedging? I get worried about air bubbles and over-wedge when I attempt to make marbled clay and it just becomes a lighter brown
Definitely over wedging when combining different colors makes it muddy. Extra coning is not required, just enough so it’s well centered. Air bubble’s really aren’t a big deal. Just poke them with a pin tool and keep going!
It’s challenging for sure. After attaching and cleaning up gently with a sponge I use a small stiff rib to bring back as much of the marbling as possible. Sometimes I dip the top half in a color and leave the bottom raw, then it doesn’t matter about the smudge on the handle. It’s a beautiful contrast!
Beautiful!
That looked so beautiful.
Thank you so much. You can do it with many different colors of clay
Sweet tutorial. I like that bat system!
Thank you so much! It’s the Dirty Girl bat system. I love them. I’ve had them for 7 years and they are still perfect
Wow!
Thank you!

I do marbling and wanted to ask how you handle or attached handle without smearing the clay? Or cleaning without a sponge??? Thanks!!

what were the types of clay you used?
In this particular video I used Laguna Bmix and Plainsman coffee. There are many options including coloring clay with mason stains
When choosing clays to mix, do you have to find clays with roughly the same shrinkage? Or would a 12% and 14% shrinkage be okay together?
Yes they should be similar shrinkage to avoid cracking or warping.
How do u get the slip of the inside
Carefully with a rib ( I use a metal one)
