I wasn't looking for people just making the mugs. I wanted someone to explain the process while doing it, with all the nuances and little details, tips etc. And I got EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not to make 'em myself, but to just know the process. Great video!
Haha, yeah, I've thrown on wheels that sound like helicopters and all kinds over the years. Nowadays they've got to be quiet for the filming but really, that buzz does get to you after 5--6 hours. Thanks for watching as always!
As a college student, i can say your videos are definitely going to be watched by some pottery making class, and you'll be that college professors favorite channel to reference. I can already see it
I've just taken my first pottery class and seeing the whole process, with your narration, has been so helpful. Thanks for your generosity in sharing your knowledge.
Just came back here to say that in college I got covid during my first ceramics/pottery class. So it was extremely difficult for me to catch up after getting better. After that I had a lot of anxiety during class because I was so behind. So every Friday I’d come in to the ceramics building and put in extra hours after watching your videos I was finally able to pass after so much frustration and anxiety. Thank you so much for your videos!!!
whole life before playing tennis I watched some videos of pros, just to mentally instill the right strokes, movements...then when you go to play it’s already in there 🧠 Now, before I’m going to handle, I watch you pull handles. It’s such a lovely gentle prep 🙏👍❤️
I really enjoyed your style of tutorial. As someone with AuDHD I have a hard time with people who pause and reiterate constantly. I just want to watch, start to finish. I can’t learn if you keep stopping!! So thank you!
I love that you showed the whole process. People that don't do ceramics have no idea how many little steps go into each piece, and it's very satisfying to see each step in one video. I love your work, I'm hoping to snag a piece in your next release!
Your videos are so incredible. I've watched through your beginners series twice now. I recently took a few private pottery classes at a local studio but at the final stage (glazing), they somehow lost my pieces. I was devastated! Watching your videos has made me feel excited to try again. I love how thorough you are and how much time you put into making these educational videos. Thank you!!!
This is so beautifully specific. The detailed tips like using the glaze lid to prevent spillage and using your fingertips to desharpen the edges after shaping make me emotional with their elegance. Not a potter at all but I'm planning to make a mug for my partner's birthday at a local pottery class and this will help immensely with making it a gift that's at least likeable if not actually practical.
Thank you so much for this, I've been trying to make a mug for my mother, and I was having a hard time using the wheel, but after mimicking what you did, I have made a great mug for my mother. I can't thank you enough!
Florian, your videos have amazing quality. So plesant to watch. All the information you include makes it much more easy to understand what are you doing for someone who knows verry little about the subject.
I just took my first lesson, and enjoyed pottery more than I thought I would. I love your mugs how the handle looks like it is literally pulled out of the mug, beautiful. Great video, I couldn't stop watching.
I watched twice. It's such a calm cool video and great. I to just started class and I'm having so much fun making my wonky little projects. 😂 good luck on your adventure! 😊
Your videos are really enjoyable to watch. Relaxing, informative, interesting, and easy to consume. Thank you for all of the extra effort you put into your pottery to share your process with us.
I absolutely loved this video! It's funny how you make it all seem so simple, and yet we know how complicated it truly is! We know also the great skill it requires to have all of your throwing skills, glazing knowledge, finishing techniques, proper loading, all come together in a successful firing, producing your unique and beautiful work. Your glazes are stunning, and the forms have such clean and simple lines.Very inspiring! Thank you for taking the time to make this video; it was a positive joy!
Thank you! I always lean towards simple forms, cylinders, straightforward curves, and so on. I'm still surprised I find them a joy to make, even after throwing several thousand over the past ten years.
It has kind of become a ritual of mine to watch one of your videos before going to bed... Hehehe it's SO soothing to watch 🤩🤩 you are a master and your work is absolutely stunning 🙏🏼😊😊😊
I’ve been a big fan of yours for some Time. Just recently found your UA-cam and wow, I can see why you pottery is so beautiful and precise. Keep up the amazing work and I love watching these!
Stunning and very interesting to to take us through the entire process. It's the hard work and dedication that goes into making these beautiful mugs! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Florian. Thank you for your brilliant videos, very instructive, educational, well detailed . They show your brilliant skills, your passion and workmanship. I have learnt a lot. Very grateful for your time. You create very beautiful pieces.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm hoping to create a pottery studio with my wife in the future. You really help me gain enough confidence to go for it!
I've been wanting to make some like some mugs and bowls and I didn't know how to until I watch this video now I'm realizing that it's going to take a lot of money
So so wonderful! You have a great calming voice that makes this so easy to watch. I loved seeing the full process and learning about all the small details and instructions that make this process safe and efficient. Thanks so much for taking the time to share this!
Thanks very much Alexandra! I appreciate the kind words and thanks for taking your time to watch. Hearing that you're learning from them makes all the time spent putting them together so very worth it.
So beautiful. I love these videos. Would love to see what you do with the pots that you don't deem worthy/get smashed. Like how you tell which ones aren't perfect and what you do with them afterwards
Thank you for the detailed instructions. How did you decide on the glazes you use? Did you make them all from scratch? Or are they commercial formulas that you tried and then developed?
Quite enjoyed watching the whole video. Something oddly satisfying and relaxing. Just had a curiosity spark as my partner broke her favorite mug today and it was a limited edition piece, so sadly won't be able to replace. Perhaps one day I'll give it a go :D Keep up the good work!
great video , so much detail and work involved... the explanations and guidance throughout is fantastic , Ive gained a new found respect for the art..:-)
First time watching your videos, and yes I'm in love with your work! they look warm and gives me a chill vibe at the same time. I'm subscribing for sure, looking forward to your next videos.
Classes i taken it.., after 1 more class. Then buy your own wheel... .. , " 65 for 1 class & then $10.65. For kilt. ... if u do it frequently buy ur your each instructor has there style .. 😅😅 I had trouble pulling.. practice , practice. Inspirational.. Great 👍 explanation. !! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for watching! And tell me about it. I do wear goggles when the kiln begins to reach top temperature, although admittedly I do occasionally take a sneak peek within it them before that.
Hey! I find your videos truly informative and well narrated. I'm a ceramist that just got her first pottery wheel! I'm wondering: which kind of wax are you using? I always struggle in taking off the glaze from the bottom of my pieces
Florian, I am obsessed with your videos. So relaxing. So informative. Is there a reason that you pull your handles instead of using an extruder? I have been using a mold for my handles, and it is clearly holding back the quality of my mugs. In the midst of deciding between using an extruder or pulling.
Thank you for watching John! Well, it's more just personal preference more than anything. The same job could of course be done with an extruder but that is essentially what my hand is doing, which I suppose is advantageous as there's no extruder to clean afterwards and it's completely customisable just by changing the shape of your hand, as opposed to having to change the die plates in the extruder each time you want a different shaped handle. If that makes sense. Of course pulling takes longer to learn but once the skills are there it's very versatile, very fast and requires no clean up.
This is wonderful. Been following along a short while and I do feel that they're all very eye opening and inspiring. Makes me wonder if one can go into this as a hobbyist. I'm assuming there are tradeoffs that one can make in what glaces & clay to start off a non-profit pottery journey. It might be an unreasonable question but what clays would you recommend for beginners. Can one make a small kiln to start somewhere or does it take a serious investment? (I might be looking at it from the wrong perspective & that one doesn't need to own their own space but maybe there are places to rent/share a studio as you're learning?) Anyways, I look forward to what project you'll share with us next! ^^
Hello from Oregon! with our current conditions (40ish centigrade from noon until early evening, 30% humidity) mugs that size would be bone dry in 1-2 hours. I was amazed you had a batch that size and were able to attach all the handles without a bunch of plastic bags, even with your incredible speed. What is your humidity/temperature in the studio where/when you shot this? also, your name keeps coming up on r/pottery reddit as the man with the youtube videos for "remote learners" to level up. I've personally hugely benefited from your content. Thank you!
Very relaxing video makes me want to try pottery and so satisfying at the end. What type of clay do you use? I'm not in UK and trying to find the clay close to what you use. But I don't even know what clay I'm looking for right now haha
I oddly find the narrated version more relaxing to listen to than the ASMR version. Lovely job on the narration.
Same!!! I think it his voice!!!!
Same! 😊
I wasn't looking for people just making the mugs. I wanted someone to explain the process while doing it, with all the nuances and little details, tips etc. And I got EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not to make 'em myself, but to just know the process.
Great video!
you’re making me want to buy a new, quiet wheel. so satisfying to watch a nice, solid wheel head that doesn’t buzz all day!
I can already see it
you were surely right! i’ve found myself in a beginners ceramics class and we all LOVE florian!
Here are Michigan state our professors link these videos on our class website!
You're certainly right, as a first year ceramics 1 freshman in college 😂 I've spent probably 4 + hours today watching this channel
My professor recommended this channel!
I've just taken my first pottery class and seeing the whole process, with your narration, has been so helpful. Thanks for your generosity in sharing your knowledge.
That's wonderful to hear. I hope you liked your first class, it's an addictive process. Thanks for watching and good luck potting!

You always make pulling handles seem like a breeze! It's so great to watch you content as you share your process! Keep up the great work!
I love watching your videos so much! They’ve inspired me to find somewhere to learn when it’s safe again
You are so kind , so detailed and so profesional ! Thank you so much for your ongoing contribution to us, less experienced pottery lovers 🧿
What a generous sharing of your tremendous skill and creativity! Thank you! Now I have to find some means of purchasing some of your work!
watching this process from start to finish was incredibly helpful as compared watching multiple videos that only show one step at a time.
Florian, your videos have amazing quality. So plesant to watch. All the information you include makes it much more easy to understand what are you doing for someone who knows verry little about the subject.

@@themoodyonejb You too :)
I’ve watched you do this so many times and it never gets old
I have watched it several times myself and enjoy it each time as well.
Your videos are really enjoyable to watch. Relaxing, informative, interesting, and easy to consume. Thank you for all of the extra effort you put into your pottery to share your process with us.
Your voice is so calming. Your skill impeccable! I truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
I love watching people do what they love. So much wisdom shared in such a short video💚 thanks partner🙏
The tapping of the blank to create the flare is a great tip!
I absolutely loved this video! It's funny how you make it all seem so simple, and yet we know how complicated it truly is! Love the mug forns, have been trying more regular cylinders lately and they're surprisingly satisfying figures. Not as boring as I thought they'd be
Thank you! I always lean towards simple forms, cylinders, straightforward curves, and so on. I'm still surprised I find them a joy to make, even after throwing several thousand over the past ten years.
your videos always help me to relax, I only have to not be in too comfy of a position or I'll fall asleep to your gentle voice!
Thank you , I so appreciate your way of explaining all the steps , but for me, the firing steps was a highlight 👌
With the freedom of hand-crafting from clay, it's fascinating how different people think a mug should look.
It has kind of become a ritual of mine to watch one of your videos before going to bed... Hehehe it's SO soothing to watch 🤩🤩 you are a master and your work is absolutely stunning 🙏🏼😊😊😊
I’ve been a big fan of yours for some
Time. Just recently found your UA-cam and wow, I can see why you pottery is so beautiful and precise. Keep up the amazing work and I love watching these!

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for making this video. Best education every!!!
What an absolutely brilliant idea
That mugs are so nice and good looking too wow you are so talented
Is it advised to not trim the inside of the mugs and instead make them as close to perfect on the inside as possible during throwing?
thank you so much for your lovely work and beautifully explained tutorial. such a kind heart.
Thank you for the video. Good to hear the kiln firing backgrounds. Using eye protection when looking into a hot kiln should be good for you.
Thanks for watching! And tell me about it. I do wear goggles when the kiln begins to reach top temperature, although admittedly I do occasionally take a sneak peek within it them before that.
Thank you so much. I am very new in training and feel this was a very good presentation.
great I can always watch your process.
Beautiful work, wonderful video, thank you
Your potter's wheel make me feel so relaxed sir 😊
Plz post some videos on slab pottery
so beautiful work!
Therapeutic and inspiring
Yooo... that was really cool to watch😍😍😍
beautiful, just beautiful.
Hey! I find your videos truly informative and well narrated. I'm a ceramist that just got her first pottery wheel! I'm wondering: which kind of wax are you using? I always struggle in taking off the glaze from the bottom of my pieces
The mirror is a cool idea. Also, I love the mugs, I only have 1 nice mug, a Denby Pottery one.
Thanks for sharing, so much great info.
This was a beautiful watch, thank you. P.s. accidentally pressed dislike but was able to correct to a like! Wonderful work 🔥
I like the mirror idea
Wow! This was fantastic. Thank you

I’ve heard that pulled handles are stronger, as the clay particles are more aligned.

I also wonder if it dries up the hands as you work on it (didn't see anyone wearing gloves) 🤔
@@annaheya2109 it does dry up your hands, you need to moisturize your hands after handling clay unless you are fine with dry hands
