Basic YTPMV tutorial (Sony Vegas) 2014
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 жов 2014
- Disclaimer: I am not amazing at making YTPMVs. I'm nowhere near as good as so many others. In terms of skill, method and execution, I do my own thing, which is probably terrible somehow. BUT: I do what I do, and it does make a YTPMV in the end.
Programs used: Sony Vegas 12 - Ігри
"so... so thats a sound"
Truer words have never been said
yeah
It's been six years, and you're still helping people with your video.

I’m not here for a tutorial, just because, umm, for no reason. 🥲
You can also double click the source, so the two yellow triangles appear above the tracks (Don't know what they're called). Then you can right click on one of them or between them, and select 'Loop playback'. This way you can easily tune the source to match with the music.

Wat jij bent hier lol
I have found a very helpful tip with YTPMVing...
Change the pitch of the source until it sounds like C, then do the same with the clip you're using for the actual pitch shifting. Once you've done that, proceed to revert the source clip to its normal pitch and count how many increments or decrements of the pitch that it takes. For example, if I had a source clip and I increased the pitch by 7 increments, I would revert it by taking it down by 7 increments. Finally, proceed to do change the pitch of the other audio clip(s) the same way that you reverted the source clip back to normal and make adjustments if necessary. Going back to the example, I would decrease the pitch of the audio by 7 since I had done the same to revert the source clip.
I hope that this helps...

make a vid tutorial..
I been looking all over for a tutorial on YTP. This is the best one I have seen. Well made and easy to follow. Thanks man
Protip: Click an audio clip in the track and then press ctrl+shift+i to make pich and stretch values visible. Use ctrl + plus/minus to fine-tune the pitch
+nrdesign1991 Ah, thanks! I knew about the ctrl+shift+i but the fine-tuning shortcut was new, I'd just been manually entering in values under properties.
+nrdesign1991 Hey man, I have Vegas pro 10 and I have a Razer Blackwidow keyboard, but when I press plus or minus it doesn't do anything. Pls help!!
Mine Doesn't Work Too, I Have Acer Keyboard.
It doesn't work /: that ctrl + plus/minus thing. How can I get that to work?
+ALVCM is it working normally, can you pitch shift at all?
crtl+shift+i shows the pitch in numbers, so like it shows if its a negative or positive octave. I'm actually amazed you've been doing it all by ear, I myself have been taught music, so thankfully i'm not tone deaf. Somewhat. Thanks for this guide btw, i actually didnt know a couple of things before this. Good stuff man.
Oh my God. This will certainly help, thanks!
yeah, helps a bunch, man.
wait that's a thing
yep.
Here I am finding this video six years later, and you really explained YTPMVs and how they can be made, hoping to try my hand at them at some point!
Wow, thanks dude!
I saw some tutorials before this one but this was the one who wrapped everything together.
Now I'm ready!
Thanks!!!
You have no idea how helpful this video is. I've been trying to figure out an efficient way to make YTPMV's, and I can't believe I didn't just search "how to make a YTPMV" until now. I tried doing it in Adobe Audition, but that didn't go too well. It took me like a half an hour just to get one note to sound close and be somewhat synced.
+Spoofopolis If you do have questions, I am always happy to help in any way I can!
+TryHard Videos Thanks, if I run into any problems I know where to ask. By the way, your Source Wright video is just fucking perfect. The objecchtion gets me every time.
I made that by exclamation by hand in Blender, it took a while but I'm glad it was worth it!
+TryHard Videos When i render a clip, it is really short and usually plays the YTPMV audio really fast. Know why? I dont
Thank you so much! I've been looking everywhere to find a tutorial like this.
hlkg
Thank you for making this video. Ever since I saw the Jongore and wasn't made by supdawg444 I was intrigued to make a video like that. I also am a Sony Vegas user it's great to see people use it :D
Thank you very much for creating this tutorial. Thanks to you, I've finally started making YTPMVs of my own!
If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them!
the pitch change keys tip just blew my mind, im 7 years in vegas pro and still finding smth new in it
thank you
Happy new year man
@@slowcuber_aze yo thanks
you too mate
Pure magic! This is awesome... :)
That rate thing is pretty useful, thank you
Ctrl clicking clips was a great little tip in general. Saves me a lot of little time, thanks!
Thank you very much, finally, a good tutorial.
you are a god among men, sir. thank you.
Thanks to you, I got into YTPMVing. I will now forever refer to you as Master.
Good luck, keep it up!
a helpful tip is that using an already existing midi version of it on youtube (if it exists) can guide you on how many semitones to pitch it up or down
AMAZING tutorial, man! Thank you so much. Just a tip: double click on that orange triangle to make the speed rate go back to 1,00.
when you said "4:20 mark"
my mind *screamed* blaze it
Really helped me out, thanks mate.
EDIT: 12k views and 326 likes? Dafuq, people?
Thank you so much for this tutorial
This surely helps out a lot.
That was awesome!!
Thanks for putting up this tutorial, I got to try this today. I will say I sucked, I quit pretty quickly on my first song, but it was a semi-hard song to start out with. Oh well, hope I can make something good in the future.
I can honestly say doing these is a mixture of getting in the mood and mindset to do it, not being in the mindset, then forcing yourself to enjoy it, then finishing a video. Do this enough and you'll get better. That's all there is to it.
Thanks for the help. I'm getting Sony Vegas 12 soon this is a lot of help! C:
cheers mate. exactly what i need
Thanks, finally know and can start making
Follow your Dweams.
you're the best man 👍
I came here for the tutorial, but you earned my like with the Cave Story.
Thanks man. I finally made my first YTPMV.
where were you 2 years ago when I needed that
Where I was was nowhere good enough to consider making a tutorial.
Thanks my friend.
oh my god there's no way its that easy THANK YOU
I've been editing with vegas for years by this point and it was today that i learned about the rate tool. It's fucking been right in front of me the whole time and i've never used it, even when i needed it.
Thanks alot hehe i'm going to be making a bunch of these
Thank you for this
Thanks man, that's helpful. I don't know if it'll be easier than get the sound, open in LMMS and do the ytpmv in MIDI, but I'll try.
Чувак,ты лучший!
Woah now I can make these these is these cool these
Pro Tip: While figuring out the notes of the song, press M every time it changes, it creates a mark and if for some reason you screwed something up, you will know where the notes go and you'll have a lot less problems dragging the audio again and again
Cave story music = respect! Nice video mate!
+NekWolf GFX I've done many other Cave Story songs in full if you're interested.
+NekWolf GFX :3
the downloader name at the end of the file screams nostalgia
Awesome
thanks ma dude
lol someone finally made a 2014 tutorial
Blovjtch •v• bruh
i needed this so bad im working on something for a friend
Thanks!
Where do you get the audio track effects? My version doesn't have any.
As in the list of effects is empty?
Mine came with it, maybe try reinstalling. If that doesn't work, I can see my Vegas effects in Reaper DAW, so maybe try using the Reaper effects in Vegas.
I don't have reaper, are the plugins third party?
Yeah, there's stuff like Reaper ReaDelay. I've honestly stopped using Vegas and used Reaper exclusively, it's got an unlimited free trial and a full license for 60 bucks
hello there
I was dying when I heard the bass pitch! Also press Ctrl+Shift+I and you can see your pitch shifting so you don't make a mistake
Teh23rdSpartan Thanks! I have learned about that but I personally prefer not to use it. It just adds visual clutter, and I almost always pitch things by ear. I re-listen to the tracks individually a lot, if it's wrong I can usually tell from the sound, like at 12:57.
TryHard Videos No prob :) I also suck at timing in ytpmvs lol.
is there a way to change the playback rate without the pitch becoming lower?
Not that I'm aware of. I usually slow to 50% so the pitch is proper, just one octave lower.
This will be useful if I ever get sony vegas, lol. Thanks.
Alright lets do this
I like the remixes
would there be a way acquire that sources file that you have somehow?
Cave Story, man..

wow thanks, now i can YTPMV but only one thing, when a clip it's snapping into other i can't move it freely around because shift doesnt' work, maybe be control settings or something else? pls help
+wsx2000lol if it's snapping to the frames of the video you can toggle that off with alt f8
+TryHard Videos tnx you got a sub
What if you want to adios overlapping as in:
one long note with, lets say a scream sound bit
and loads of small yes bits for the notes
(do you get me?)
how can you get them to overlap.
Two layers would work if I understand what you want. There are a lot of ways to do this, you can insert audio and video tracks from the insert menu at the top, or right click on the left side. I did explain a ways into the video. Is that what you need?
Fine, figured out.
My video was glitching out for some reason. But thanks anyway.
Why do I find this funny xD
Ever tried double-clicking on a source and pressing Q? When you play, it loops on it so you can pitch it better.
Yeah, but I prefer playing through the few notes before it, I can hear the individual parts better. Great tip, though; I might make another video with more advanced stuff, including everyone's suggestions (credited of course)!
do you know if you can do this in adobe premier
FINALLY! I CAN YTPMV!
+Isiah Folio (Asdfguy86) Hopefully youl do better then me
Now that I've mastered the basics, I've started making one of my own. I'll update this comment when it's finished.
Good luck!
I want to watch it!
I recommend using Audacity to pitch shift the source into a "sound bank" with every possible note. This way, you can use it for future videos.
lol man
Breaking News: Tahutoa already cancelled it.
Very helpful tutorial.
I still need to work on the audio actually sounding good without the BGM.
There's a lot to consider when "making it sound good". A good clear note from the source is important, having no music or other sounds in the background helps. Something that sounds similar to the instrument can make it sound really cool.
Another thing to take into account is the attack of each note and the flow. Say there's a 6 note phrase, having a hard start for the first note by including the whole word or whatever, then the subsequent notes start later in the sound, use alt to drag the audio. You can mess around with the volume of each note too. Just drag the top of the audio clip to quickly change the volume. A lot of work goes into simple songs. Good luck!
Thank you!
TheHystericalGaming Small tip that I found out while toying around.Your sample sound will sound a ton better if you use multiple tracks for the same sample, make the sound overlap for any following note to make it sound smoother. Crossfading is not good and cutting the sound while a note is playing to make room for another sound isn't good either. This is what I mean: puu.sh/gpGcz/9e7a8ffd78.png
thanks, i really need some tips.
8:02 This Soucre Has A Secret Right There!
do you press + on the keyboard to make the pitch higher, cause its not working for me, and I can't zoom in the top left window with the jontron video.
+Wyatt Uploads Stuff (Eren189) make sure you click on the audio clip, and the - and + next to backspace, it'd actually be - and =.
Oh thanks!
one question, how do i make a short voice, let's say a, a simple short "hey" . how do i make it sound "heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey" without dragging it longer? do i have to cut the "e" in hey?
+Socrative I'm still not quite sure what you mean
sorry english is my second language. what i saying is how do I make the E in "hey" for example to stay for a continously consistent note, for how long that I want it?
thanks for the reply :)
To be honest, even I haven't figured that out. It's possible by copy-pasting the middle section with crossfading in between them, lining up the waveforms and making the volume consistent with volume envelopes, but I'm bad at it and haven't totally successfully done it yet.
thanks :)
What's the best time stretch/pitch shift method? It wasn't working until I found it in the audio clip's properties. But which to use?
Soloist: Speech sounds the best I believe
Thanks, but now I have another problem. I can't get the edits to sync to the track's tempo lmao. I tried making the project framerate 42.5 to match the 170bpm tempo, but that doesn't seem to work.
Edit: Nevermind, I'm just gonna work with 85 frames, seems to work.
Alt+f8 to stop clips from snapping to the video's frames
You're a Cave Story fan? Man, you know videogames, TryHard Videos
Saw that too, I was happy to see it ;)
francesco8575 YEAS!
CAVE STORY FANS UNITE!
I do not remember watching this video
Thank you :D
p.s. your voice is normal
here's another tip: FIND THE BPM!!! Sometimes, when you don't, the timings will be all messed up and ur ytpmv will kinda sound weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can tweak the bpm by going to "project properties", the gear sign in the corner, then go to "ruler" and under measures and beats, the beats per minute will be there and you can change it to whatever ya need. make sure your grid markers are shown down below
What a the music you used for this video?
Btw, can't you just make a Picture In Picture effect using mask? You can just make a mask around the whole clip and you don't need to worry about the timeline stuff.
The pitch keys works in my vegas pro 11 :D
I was actually using the same clip for a Night of Knights JonTron remix
Cave story sound track fuck yeah.
Take On Palpatine
How can I select multiple clips and copy paste/move them? I tried to drag all of them but all that does is selects an area to loop
+Testcat if they're all in a line, left click on the first one, then hold down shift and left click the last one. You can also left click one, hold control and left click individual other ones, for selecting one more at a time. One other way is to press d to change to selection cursor, then you can box drag to select. Just press control + d to put the cursor in the regular mode again.
Okay, and also when I try to move the place in the video, I cant put it to the walls or corners, because it starts fading away when I put it too much to the left or right. :c
+TryHard Videos Oops, nevermind. I was using the wrong button. Okay, now I know everything. Great tutorial by the way :D
This is pretty late but could you tell me what plugin or program you use for downloading the clips you use in your YTPMV's?
+Rekushiido VLC; open media information and paste the stream address in chrome then save
Ayeee thanks for the instant reply
I click off a cave story ytmpv to see how to make one and see all of the cave story sources in your folder... nice
one last question, how do you make an audio clip gradually slower or faster? like:
soundcloud(.)com/anal-fungus-1/nickelback-photograph-gradually-slowing-down-mix
do you know the same thing, but with pitch shifting?
+Socrative you can add vibrato audio effect, set the frequency low. I think that might slow it or speed it up depending on the curve you draw, but I'm not sure
Best way to not have those annoying blank space in between the clips?
There's some different ways, if it looks good you can extend the video clips individually (hold shift and drag the edge of the video clip), or you can have a static image of the first frame as a video layer behind it so whenever there would be a blank space, there's instead that start of the clip. Rather than an image you can just take the video clip and set its velocity to zero (right click - add switch - velocity, right click the node - set to zero), make sure the first frame is the frame you have on that clip. I'm sure there's other ways to do it, those are just how I do it.
I can barely hear the notes by ear. I'm crap at that.
I know sheet music/ theory. Could I make ytpmv's based off that?
+Tom The Fish I suppose you could, if you write out the notes as intervals of semitones, (find a root note and add or subtract the number of required semitones after than, ctrl+shift+i shows the numbers in vegas) but I don't know how wieldly that would be. Sorry, but I think having a good ear is pretty important.
Okay. :)
I will learn haha :D
My music ear from scratch is terrible but I can tell when a note is not right haha. Practise will have to do the job here.
ok so how can i rcord the video and the audio
hey man, I was wondering, could I make intros and outros with this beautiful thing?
+Boxes World What do you mean by that?
TryHard Videos Let's say I wanted to put my name flashing blue at the start of my project. Or with a nice background touch. Woud that be possible. And the outro saying to like comment and subscribe.
+Boxes World Of course that's possible! There's tons of ways to do it, but to be honest I'm not much of a fan of those, especially when they say to "Like Comment and Subscribe", but go ahead and do what you want. To insert text, all you need to do is go to the "Media Generators" tab in the middle left, go to "titles & Text" and drag one of the boxes over to the timeline. The default animations and colours aren't all that great and if you know they're default they don't look very professional. I recommend you either disable the animation and make your own with the pan / crop and effects with keyframes or just don't use any at all. Over-the-top animations look bad most of the time. Something subtle like having it drop in from the top, and using the linear blur effect at a value of about 0.1 (at 90 degrees so it's up-down) as it's falling, which returns to 0 as it stops. It should happen pretty quickly, too, less than 8ms I'd say.
A background, again, is best when it's not obvious or over-the top. A subtle gradient or a defocused image. I could PM you a sample vegas file if you want.
TryHard Videos Thanks a lot man. And I don't really approve of the like, comment, subscribe thing either. This sounds hard and challenging but once I get Vegas maybe it'll be easy. Because I've seen my friend do that and it looks really great to me. Other than that, thanks man.
any easier way xd?
i am a mac user and i use final cut pro which is great but does any one know some of the shortcuts
So about how long would it take someone new to Vegas 12 to make a full YTPMV? Should I use youtube.mp3 to download the clips?
+Evan Rumbagh I might make another tutorial on how to manually download youtube clips directly from the youtube source rather than going through some converter thing that may or may not be sketchy... but basically you open the video in VLC, go to media information (ctrl+i) and open the direct address in a browser and download it from there.
To make a "full" YTPMV is obviously very open to interpretation, some songs are simple and some are complex so "fullly" made can range between a few days of hard work and several weeks. The biggest thing is if you're motivated, if you really want to work on something. If I really want to be working on a certain project, I can get it done quickly. Like that ECCHpossible game, I did in one day. I know your question is for someone new, but it;s honestly not that different. I'm slightly faster "mechanically" than when I started since I've control-dragged and pitch shifted so many times before, but that is just a marginal improvement over when I started. And when you have to figure something out, it takes a while, but you're learning in doing so so you only take that time once.
+TryHard Videos Thanks man, I've been getting better with it. Thinking about making a 5 minute one. Pretty far into it, but thanks for the advice. It's really helpful to me.
5 minutes is quite an undertaking... especially if the song has more than a few tracks. It took me over a month to make that "Asterisk Battle", song, it even repeats several times. If you want my advice, try making a very short song but polish it as much as possible. Perfect pitching and perfect timing to make sure you get that down.
do you have a download for that source compilation?
(i have a hard time trying to find percussion notes)
I might put one up, but some of the video files are snipped clips from the original videos. Maybe I could just say what they are sometime.
TheHystericalGaming It would be awesome if you could upload the file to dropbox or mega for other aspiring YTPMV-ers :)))))
xWirer I have an unlisted video, if you want the link I can give it to you but I'd rather not spread this everywhere, ok?
That would be awesome. If you could pm the link, I won't share it anywhere.
TryHard Videos May I have that link too, please? I'm having quite a hard time finding sources.
question, how do i play a clip and when i split it i can play that part and the video skips to the start
I don't quite get what you mean, can I have an example?
+TryHard Videos like for example you are in minute 3:45 and you want to go to the start by spliting
+Wolf Element Productions select the clip, move your play head to 3:45, hit s to split, then you can delete the right half, and copy paste the first half, assuming it starts at the start, pasting that where you just split.
Hey, i got a problem, the default pitch is set by -24 to +24, how can i change it?
+Alex Productions I'm guessing you mean you can't go higher or lower? That's just the limit for pitching it that way, if you want more you have to use the pitch shift audio effect on the clip.
Ok, thanks.
Can you do most of this on Filmora? I'm pretty sure you can, but just making sure
+OverheadRed I couldn't say, I have no experience with Filmora, sorry.
TryHard Videos It's ok :)
4;20 mark hahaha
*Had me laughing hard ngl*
lol the 420 mark smoke weed everyday
Hey man I just can't use Shift + Drag to copy
What can I do? It just doesnt work
Ctrl drag.
ey is there anywhere i can download an entire source file filled with jontron sounds n stuff?
Not that I know of. If I were you, I'd just start with the well known ones like "I ain't havin' that shit" and such, grab them from the original video yourself and look for cool ones when you're watching the videos for fun.
TheHystericalGaming yeah i wanted to see if someone had them all compiled, but if not i would just make my own, thanks
