      We don't have one pre drilled for your router but we have a Blank baseplate that all you would need to do is drill your own mounting holes. Here's the blank baseplate on our website www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=6&product_id=399

    Hi
    Do you recommend a plunge or fixed base for carving letters etc ? Just starting out. I’m used to large routers as I fit kitchen worktops etc.
    I’m in the Uk.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Might purchase the vonhaus palm router and make a clear base ? Great videos

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  2 роки тому +1

      I always use a fixed base. The palm router are great for carving signs. You can certainly use full size routers, I did for decades. However the palm routers are lots easier to control, especially with a baseplate. I definitely suggest making a baseplate similar to ours. Thank you so much for watching and the kind words. If I can answer any other questions for you please email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com

    Is there an advantage to not using a plunge router?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  Рік тому +1

      In my opinion, the plunge router is way bigger than you need to carve a sign. It's just more difficult to handle and maneuver. Especially when doing smaller artwork.

    Dave, it looks like you seldom put your base all the way down when you’re cutting. I've noticed this in several of your video demonstrations. It looks like you tend to hold the base (farthest from you) up a little. Is this by habit or because you can control the cut a little better?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  5 років тому

      Just habit.... I know it looks that way but my base is down almost all of the time. The only time I lift it is on super fine detail when I need a thinner line and I don't want to take the time to adjust the depth.

    Thanks for the demo. I think it would be helpful if you cut the sample board from side to side to show the cross section of each cut. That would give a better image of how deep we should be cutting.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  Рік тому

      Thanks, Mike! We use palm routers more than anything. But we do quite a bit of power carving with a foredom and angle grinder as well. We don't use chisels, but might dive into that later on as well. We try to come up with creative cool looking projects using all kinds of different methods.
