@SexJunkle isle of man is notorious for being the most rally-like asphalt course. In rally every corner is a blind corner and you only have your navigator and memory to thrust. The lust for speed isn't bravery, real bravery means to push the car to the max instead of to 95%. Those crazy guys literally jump into a turn at over 100mph and land on the brakes for a tighter turn with complete confidence that there won't be a rock to send their car in the ditch.
I don't have any of these (since I haven't been doing simracing for years, just considering returning to it again), but I remember my late childhood / early teen years, back when I was playing Colin McRae Rally 3 & 2005 or TOCA Race Driver 2/3 without gamepad or wheel. Not disagreeing with any of you. However, living close to the actual Finland stages, they sometimes feel extremely wide in game, as compared to reality. Yes, the courses are hard in DR 2.0 - sometimes frustratingly hard (especially Argentina and Scotland of course) - but they are still obviously smoothed a lot from reality, at least in terms of road width and small bumps/potholes. On the other hand, if they were modelled more realistic still, I'm guessing it might already take away some fun factor of the gameplay. In my opinion, one of the most impressive things when watching real WRC broadcasts is how flat out the drivers go even in roads that seemingly have a width of 1.0-1.5 car widths at narrowest! Incredible
I'm surprised GPL hadn't made the list. Literally takes everything you know about racing and turns it on it's head as you're dealing with rock hard bias-ply tires from the 1960s. You have to almost treat your car like a rally car, and even still, the A.I.'s ability is based on the actual drivers you race against. So Jim Clark will stomp on your throat just like he did in real life. The physics in certain parts are simplistic (no brake fade) but you end up having a whacky enjoyable time.
Exactly. Got into GPL very recently (with the 2020 demo). I consider myself a very experienced and reasonably fast simracer, but I got blown out when I tried GPL for the first time. It took me quite a while to start doing reasonable laptimes, the handling is so difficult and I am always pushed to the limit of my concentration abilities when driving on the edge. Honestly driving in ProjectCARS is an afternoon walk compared to GPL.
Rhys Gordon or he can’t be asked to change the modes before driving a different car. I know I’m like that, I pretty much just stick with h-pattern unless it’s f1, I used the paddles.

Assetto corsa is not that easy if you look at it,its quite hard to drive some cars and the tracks are amazingly made, project cars 2 its a joke,i don t even know why its in this list, the physics are so unrealistic lol
@Gustavo Javarini i need to tell you,i have played project cars 2 a lot of times, but there was a moment that i said "enough of this bullshit" and i stoped playing it,instead im playing AC (because of the amount of incredible mods),ACC (because its a good new game and its very realistic and you always have fun with it) and sometimes i also play RF2 (only because of the realism because de content its too expensive for me) and also play Race Room sometimes to have fun)
Idk why but your footage of that last game really managed to convey for me how tense and dangerous it must be to race along mud tracks and narrow roads.
Don't forget about Assetto Corsa. In my opinion with a wheel, it feels pretty realistic with unforgiving physics, especially with how realistic the suspension system is with the cars. One of the best simulation games ever made.
"If you don't have a steering wheel, don't buy this game" I've been playing this game in Xbox one with the controller. Very hard to play tho. Nice vid.
@@jessicalane2342 I can't argue with the sim statement here, but racing wheel will give you a lot of advantage especially performance-wise. You can be very precise with your steering and make the smallest adjustments on the way, either if it's sim or racing game-any game that supports wheel control is better to be driven with wheel in the performance manner. I've been playing Assetto Corsa on a wheel and now i'm playing dirt 2.0 on a dualshock 4, i mean its fun to learn the basics of the game and just chill out with a gamepad but as soon as i get the new wheel, im not coming back to gamepad :p It's too much fun to play with wheel and pedals, you should try that yourself if you haven't had yet :)
Dirt rally 2.0 is so hard lol when I done a 10 minute stage at Argentina I was shook and the satisfaction when you nail a corner on that game is amazing
Yup, I find Dirt Rally easier with a controller than a wheel since you need to snap steer a lot in rally. Assetto Corsa benefits a lot from smoother wheel controls though.

Project Cars 2 and Dirt Rally are definitely ones that have p.o.‘ed me more than once. PC2’s puddles and sensitivity were always that fighting factor, which made you think about your tuning setup. Also, even as a beginner, I was lucky enough to have supportive people in the racing community to help me out. So the struggles are real but both games are fun if you’re dedicated to working on improvement.
I'd say dirt rally is quite hard for beginner but it's still let's say arcade sim. The hardest and most experience needed rally game is Richard Burns Rally, that's a game where you learn to drive years and it's still hard after 5 years of practising. I don't say it's super realistic but it has some elements really close to real life and ofc I mean RBR with NGP6 physics which are the most realistic ones.
Project cars 2 is good on a controller not sure with a wheel i think it heavily depends on what car your driving also, some cars are fine they feel good but some just feel fucking stupid
andr aasddsa one would think that after some years... you would fund your passion and get a decent steering wheel. It’s not about being faster, it’s about having more fun.
I gave up on Dirt Rally after 8 hours of play. The Dark Souls of racing games. No flashbacks, no racing lines, thin roadways overlooking cliffs with massive penalties for crashing. The game requires tremendous driving skills.
@@falalogo I still play this game because I guess I'm a fucking masochist and I absolutely refuse to loose so I don't care if I gotta retry a stage 80 times to get a decent time😅
i simply cannot finish an event with R2 even though I tried like 10 times abandoning championships and start over...frusturating for sure but one time in a stage in Poland I completed this long stage after millions of tries(no restart but quit to main menu) and 3 some hours, and it felt amazing
Graphically it is still one of the most beautiful racing games to look at and is up there with GT Sport for having one of the best camera modes out there. Even better than GT because you can take pics in real time in a race instead of only having to take them in the replay.
Dirt rally 2.0 was my very first racing game and I had a blast. Just make sure to turn on all the assists if you only have a controller or keyboard to play on.
It can be easier with gamepad, because with a wheel you can't always countersteer fast enough. I also tried it with a pad and on some stages I was faster too. Only the stages with mostly tar, were better with wheel because the car didn't turn as fast as on loose underground and the force feedback on the wheel was harder and turned the wheel better and also let's you feel the grip much better.
I actually started all my simracing from PC2 :D It gave me a lot of experience I migrated further and now I can agree, it’s difficult but *not realistic*. Because the physics feels like the road and tyres are covered in soap
I love rally racing games, and really none of them are “easy,” you just have varying degrees of “hard.” The easiest of these that I’ve played would be Dirt 4, and the hardest would be the Dirt Rally series. I’ve never been able to justify buying the WRC games because they tend to be a little bit too expensive for my budget compared to the competition. Also, I love that someone finally gives a little bit of light to Beam.NG’s driving physics and difficulty, as it’s by far my favorite driving game all-around by far, even without multiplayer (but there is a modder making significant progress with adding that to the game as well).
A vertical wall of a learning curve, but one of the most satisfying games once you get the drift( pun intended) of handling the cars. Got it when it came out in '98. Nothing came close.

The physics in certain parts are simplistic (no brake fade) but you end up having a whacky enjoyable time.
totally agree!

GPL is a stone cold classic, and still very playable today. That thing forced me to buy a wheel back in the day. So satisfying to play well ...
GPL is the sim that will never love you back.

You can be very precise with your steering and make the smallest adjustments on the way, either if it's sim or racing game-any game that supports wheel control is better to be driven with wheel in the performance manner.
