Still the Best Beginner Sim Racing Wheel? | Logitech G29 Review

- Опубліковано 24 чер 2024
- Hey guys, as some of you know, I've been working on this review of the Logitech G29 sim racing wheel on-and-off for a while now. Today it finally sees the light of day, and in a format I've not really tried before. So the question is, does the Logitech G29 still hold the title of the best beginner sim racing wheel?

Still just a g27. The fact that Sony and logitech got together to fuck gamers by making us buy the same wheel twice is completely bullshit and I didn't fall for it. Most ps4 driving games are shit so I'm not missing much.
Nice professional video, I do notice a bit of electrical interference with you microphone, slight buzzing noise in the back ground, don't know if you knew about it or have resolved it but I thought I'd let you know.
@@springwoodslasher79 : You can blame Sony for that. For making their architecture incompatible between systems. It forced Logitech to make a new wheel. The new XB1 will support all existing peripherals so need stress there going forward.
@@kdogg7882 if you dont think logitech and Sony were in on this deal you are just a sheep. Baaaaaa. The wheel has ps4 controls on it you moron so obviously they made a deal with logitech.
G29 has been fantastic for me so far. 3D printed the adapter as well to replace the wheel itself with an actual rally wheel, wish me luck!
Little did we know 3 years ago Goosiest would become an extremely popular sim drifting UA-camr with a million subscribers. Keep up the great work Goose!
yea wtf thats badass! congrats! im about to buy mt first racing wheel and also goin with the g29 lol
HI
@@albatross5739 What you're seeing is history lol, this guy now has 1mil subs and like a 1,5k setup

one does have to realize that he has a "proper" sim rig, so for a beginner/ someone who just got into it, it'll be heaven. (especially coming from a keyboard)
That must be the most true thing ive heard
It really is.
Get a Dualshock 4, Sixaxis is fantastic. 👍
@@Skellotronix it's ass, if I turn more than 70° it fucks up and I crash
HAHA LOL keyboard racer
Dang, the G29 is going for $400 USD base right now. I missed my window to get it cheaper before Coronavirus.
same feels :(
I looked today. 4-22. It’s $500.
Sricharan Yadali buy the hori racing wheel it costs $99 on adorama then get a set of pedals with clutch and a shifter (i recommend the logitech driving force) and ure set up
At that point why not get a fanatec csl
Yo I will get this when the price goes down.
It's wild that a wheel at that price point is the 'entry level'
Manufacturing, shipping, storage, middeleman margins etc have to be factored in and probably they don't move that many units compared to game controllers.
@@TrigonAZR maybe they'd shift more units if they were more affordable. We don't sell that many so we have to ask a premium price, no I wouldn't buy one the price is too high id buy one if it was a bit cheaper... Confluence of opposition haha. Immovable object meets irresistible force. If your gonna spend 250 quid I might as well spend 450quid instead and get a better one. This would be my attitude personally, and that would basically leave them selling nothing their either so they don't appeal to people who want an entry price offering and they don't appeal to someone who wants something better than entry point offering
Not really….at all actually
@@Ziddel exactly my problem with his point, if you can only afford 250£ how tf would 200£ more be interchangeable?!
This is a budget wheel...
This channel is eventually going to blow up. High quality editing, content, script, and delivery.

14:07 we not going to talk about the guy using a 360 controller
fucking legend
I grew up racing sims with controller, mad props to them
I use 360 controller 🤣 I’m 1:52 on Monza with Ferrari 458
I ran a 1:54.8 with the Super Formula on Spa playing GT Sport with a controller. Not too shabby considering that's only a second off the top time.
I'm racing with A/A+-S drivers on GT Sport of my PS4 controller, so I can relate
"and if not, the Bezos family store has you covered"
Priceless.
He said this when I read it
Just got the G29 as my 1st wheel and it's a perfect wheel. I'm ecstatic with it. The more expensive wheels must be amazing
Got the G29 as my first wheel as well & I have to say it's more fun than a controller by miles. I have thought that maybe sometime in the future I would upgrade it to the "next level" (possibly when it breaks to the point I can't fix it after running out of warranty) & have thought about the Fanatec CSL Elite. You may think that there are better wheels than that & yes, you'd be right, but personally, to me it feels like anything past this price point, or maybe bit expensive, is just a dimnishing return, especially if you were to keep on upgrading for what ever reason. There is definitely a big difference from going to the gear drive of the G29 to even something like the belt drive of the CSL Elite, but I don't think it's worth spending twice (or more) that money to get a wheelbase with a direct drive system; just kind of seems like a big waste of money on a small upgrade, especially if you're not fully serious about sim racing (but even then, it's a bit ehhhh to spend *that* kind of money).
same here bruh. I was afraid I might not be into sim racing that much and I love racing games. Boooi, this wheel makes me wanna main racing games now. lol so good! Enjoy lads! What are you playing these days and on which platform ? Lookin for racing wheel buddies and people to play with in general. Cheers!
I rly want one but I don't even have a regular sized table
@@brandonyoung4150 To mount the wheel you only need a table with about 40cm width and 20cm length. If you have a computer desk that can also work fine. Big tables/dedicated rigs are made to handle much more power than the G29. This doesn't mean you get no feeling in a G29, it's just that some wheels have 10x the power of it. Good alternatives for a G29 include the cheaper Driving Force GT (Pedals are awful but the wheel itself is suprisingly good), the Thrustmaster T150 (I prefer the FFB to the G29 but the pedals on the T150 are worse), and if you can find one cheap enough, the Fanatec CSL Elite (Has the best pedals, and best wheel according to most but very rare). You will have to buy the Driving Force GT and CSL Elite used, as they are no longer available. If you are on PC, mix and match pedals and wheels. For example, if the CSL Elite full set isn't available or too expensive, use a Driving Force GT or T150 with the CSL Elite pedals. This does not work on Playstation though.
Been using a driving force gt for past several months, just bought a G29 kit from Amazon with the g920 shifter included for $250, wish me luck bois

I got a DD1 recently, that thing is more than enough to pull your arms out.
actually.. 1980's F1 cars had a max steering force up to 28Nm... :D
30nm hahahahaha. Even my cordless power drill has 180nm.
T300RS on max settings always. You probably have spaghetti arms.
I'm still using my G25, still works perfectly fine after all those years.
g27 here still going strong
About >15 year old Logitech wingman formula force gp here still almost going but with a completely broken FFB. Rally games are fun but more race track-y ones are death (or could be that im just really bad at them)

@@TheBoostedDoge they sure do :)
@@BeetjeVreemd I almost bought a used g25 for €60 but I was nervous about it not working on Windows 10 so I ended up buying a g29 on black Friday
Now this is a clear, concise, in depth and overall excellent product review. I love the mentions of moddability and repairability, and possible failure point. If only all product reviews were like this. I already have this wheel and I still watched it all. Subscribed.
Good Job on the channel. Really makes me want to back into Sim racing. I used to race the Papyrus Nascar 1999 up to 2003
This is great. Perfect timing for me, I’m just getting into proper sim racing and can’t wait to have my own setup. Thanks for helping out us newbies!
Hunter Brittle Good if you’re strapped for cash. But I’d save & spend a bit more on a Thrustmaster T300/TMX and then T3PA pedals after you can run consistent laps +/- 1 sec per lap (w/abs if needed)
One of us! One of us!
@@skilewis74 Nah, I've had both and the despite slightly better FFB, G29 is a better product. The T300 are famous for the belts dying whilst the G29 keeps going. Thrustmaster is worth skipping and going to a DD if you are willing to spend more money.
There are heaps of G29s available on the second hand market, especially this time of year when everyone upgrades for Christmas. Look up your local sim racing buy/sell/swap groups on Facebook.
Just be super light on that brake its actually pissing me off how there is no difference between betrween heavu brake and full wheel lock
I just started looking into racing sims tonight, and UA-cam recommended me this video when I got home. Perfect timing!
Having used this for 5 months after choosing it as my entry-wheel into sim racing; I agree with pretty much every part of this. You even said things I hadn't realised myself and agreed with. Only thing I think you got wrong: I reckon you could use it as a weapon during a home invasion, but to-date have no proof - theory only.
I will gladly using anything else first, BUT if it comes to it....with that leather grip I can see it smashing in someone's head easily. Just need the element of the surprise.
Thanks man! This review was really helpful! I really like how you went into detail about every aspect of the wheel and even compared it to more expensive rigs.
This is probably the best review of the G29/G2x series I’ve ever seen. Keep doing what you are doing Chris.
your channel is amazing. i'd love go see you transition to different topics from just sim racing. of course you can still do it, but i believe a variety of categories will definitely get your channel to be amongst the big boys.
such a concise and well-worded review. Thank you for putting so much effort into your script.
Great review Chris, I'm convinced I need one. Sounds ideal for my skill level..shame they have increased in price atm.
There is cheap ones here but my dad wont buy it
I mean i have 1/2 the money but nooooo thats useless
I need to invest in gold instead?
Thanks for this it's a huge help for me as I'm looking at getting my first wheel. Brilliant explanation and you have made up my mind for me. Cheers mate

Great video as per, some great subtle laughs in there
First time watching your videos, heard the intro, and instantly subbed. Amazing work!
You, sir, are one of the most relaxed person in this business! Thanks for that great video!
just bought one for 170€ this christmas. Im loving it. It was kind of hard to adjust to the brake pedal as it takes a while to know how hard you need to push to trailbrake effectively but its was a matter of 2-3 days for me, who has never sim-raced before.
Open up and take out the rubber piece in the brake pedal. Tons of videos it takes 10min to do it
@@SIMRIG412 voids warranty
Put it back in and the warranty is back.
Y E i just took out the rubber stopper. Works perfectly fine now
Oddly enough I really love the rubber stop, for games like f1 where the brakes are super sensitive to locking it helps you stay right on the limit of locking and trail brake easier imo.
Informative and accurate review. I've owned my G29 for 2-1/2 years now, with hundreds of thousands of miles logged on it.
thanks for being calm and using a reasonable paced video style without annoying music and getting straight to the point!
Very informative, humorous and professional. Great clear delivery. Just bought this set up so awaiting results!
One of the most objective and well thought out reviews I've seen on this wheel. I've owned one for a while while playing Raceroom mostly until the DCS World addiction set in!
Glad I’m not the only person this happened to. I’ve probably crashed an entire squadron of aircraft in the last 12 months
DCS Is just sooooo good
I had my G27 for seven years now and I was very happy with it! The desk clamps are better then I expected, because in the past 4 years I never felt the wheel getting loose from my rig. Only when I took it off to get my new wheel on I realised that I never used the screws and only the clamps.
What a fantastic video. So in depth yet easy to understand. I'm looking to get back into driving games after around 10 years off. This video has been hugely helpful to me. Thanks!
Subscribed merely because of the quality of this video. So much useful information and such a great, cool, laid-back host!
First time watcher. There's something about your voice that makes it mezmerizing.. .anyway, great video! Subsribed!
He's the new Slob Ross.
Great objective review. Had mine for a few years and I've been really happy. Recently upgraded the pedals to Fanatec V3's and it has made the wheel feel grainy in comparison, but the pedals in fairness are twice as expensive as both the wheel and pedals from Logitech.
Really helpful in more ways than one. The quality of your videos is great and makes me want to try harder for my own channel. Great work.
Great review, feel you covered a lot of stuff that is need to know, thanks keep em coming.
I've had one of these for about 3 years as well as the H pattern shifter. All still work perfectly.
Yeah, though I've has issues with the drivers for some games.
And for me, once you try a belt driven wheel, the "grindiness" of the G920/29 will grind your gears... pun intended.
It's like that though. I'm told, "once you hit Direct Drive, you'll never want another Belt or Gear driven wheel", lol.
I took your advice about a year ago, and picked up the g29.
I've never had a single issue with it;
Its been a good reliable purchase.
I still love it, a year later.
Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
another year later.. How is it holding up? do you still use it? does it still work properly?
@@Dysonchips Yes, I still love it and use it almost everyday. I'm fast with it, at least n AMS2. Never have had a single issue.
I upgraded to a MVH studios GT rim. I love it as well. More than a year later, no issues with it either.
@@roddy6924 Wow cool, thanks for the reply
This is incredibly informative! Thanks! I’m looking at this wheel and it looks like a great starter for me!
Brilliant analysis and helped make my mind up as a novice sim racer about what to buy. Did some hot laps in PC2 in VR and am having an absolute blast.
I just bought it the other day, can't wait for it to come in
I’ve been using my G29 wheel now for about 3 to 4 years. I haven’t came into any issues with the steering wheel and it is an overall excellent product. It has an excellent range of custom profiles which you can configure in the Logitech Gaming Software or just use the default ones. Overall it is worth the cost and should last a very long time. The only issue I had I brought mine from Currys and I had about 4 different wheels 3 G920’s and 1 G-29 before I finally got a working 5th one and has lasted me. Thanks for the video
What a helpful, informative video. Really well presented, too. You've done a great service for those of us looking to dip our toes into a hobby that can seem intimidating and expensive from the outside. My G29 arrives on Thursday!
I’ve been struggling trying to figure out which wheel to buy, and this one locked me in. Thank you for the great review!
Honestly speaking, great review.
I'm 17 and I'll get a gaming pc next month, because I like cars and drifting, I was planning on getting this steering wheel w/ the shifter to play Asseto Corsa and this review was really useful.
Funny thing is by the time I've saved enough money to buy this (probably around December), I'll turn 18 and be able to get a drivers license so I'll practice at home with this bad boy.
Also, you have a really calming voice tho
Literally same to everything except i already have a decent gaming pc lol and i already can drive manual stick
Hmmm I was gonna ask for a Series X for Christmas but I might get one of these instead 👀
Yeah. I’m looking for a wheel with a manual trans.
LE20 I dont know of any wheels that have a shifter included (they have paddle shifters of course) But you have to buy the shifter yourself separately
man.. looks like we will be waiting a few more months to get the wheels. They are too costly right now..

I'm still sim racing with my G29 and pedal combo Chris. It does the job, just ;) Although it's letting the look of my rig down haha. Nice review though as standard from you.
Just bought it yesterday. Did not notice the carpet thingy at all lol thank you, great review!
High quality review, audio, video and editing. Great video. Subbed.
Great vid Chris, I'm a casual simmer ie: Saturdays and Sundays only! I still use a G25 which i bought 5 years ago for £25 on Ebay! I've graphite greased the gears in it and it still works perfectly! If you play AC then use Rasmus' info and LUT files available on Racedepartment, ACC feels really good on this wheel, They catered for it out of the box, RF2, Wreckfest etc all work well with this wheel and pedals, If my G25 claps out i will have to most probably replace it with a G29, I just cannot justify paying for a DD wheel on my income and simming as little as i do, Cheers.
So the brake is kinda like a busses
My friend says that when he drive a bus the first half is pretty low force but when you go over 50% it goes full emergency stop
Kinda?
yup.
I actually own and use a g29, the brake is soft-ish 3/4 of the way, until it hits the rubber stopper. I have it set up so when i hit the stopper its on 90% brake pressure. (Ingame, mostly) it works pretty well.
I actually really liked the rubber stopper in the brake. It felt good in Assetto to have to push hard to brake. Although in GT Sport you’re pretty much at 100% braking force before you even reach the firm part of the travel, which is annoying and hard to get used to at first.
In F1 2019 I had the inner dead zone set so that the braking *begins* at the stopper, giving me a nice form brake pedal at all times! I know I was losing information by cutting out half the brake travel, but it really helped with consistency because I was applying more accurate pressure, closer to a real brake.
I’ve upgraded to a Fanatec CSL with load cell now, but I’ll always look back on my time with the G29 with extreme fondness.
Very ajustable in content manager !!!!!

I still have a G25 too. I had to replace the shifter. I sometimes get a double shift on the paddles, not sure if it's the wheel. At this point I think an upgrade would be go next step above the G29.
Try keeping the shifter tho. Otherwise you gonna be stick with an H-Shifter gearstick only, aside from the paddles.

Amazing, thorough video - Helped a lot in my choice of wheel. Thank you!
This man is so chill. New subscriber!
Used g29 for a month. What many people don’t mention is the diy potential of this wheel. It has many 3D printed mods and spring sets. I’ve changed the wheel, paddles, made inverted pedals and changed throttle and brake springs, added 3D printed part to the shifter to make shifts a little heavier. Those changes, I think, pretty much explored all most of the diy potential of this wheel and improved the experience significantly.
thank you tenpenny, useful advise 👍

I’ve been playing Forza Motorsport for years on a controller and could drive for weeks without crashing using no assists. I couldn’t drive any car for 20 feet in AC without crashing. It does have a direct competitor, the TM T150, cheaper price, similar features and specs
The pro version actually
I currently own a T150 pro and tried my friend's G29 a few times. In Germany they are very similarly priced at 187€ (TM) and 201€ (Logitech). In terms of force feedback I prefer the T150 and it's partially belt driven system. It is smoother than the G29 and doesn't have a very pronounced "grainy" feel to it. But the Logitech is miles ahead in style and comfort features. The leather feels much more premium than the T150's rubber grips and the selection of buttons and encoders available is also very nice (the rev LEDs are a nice touch but I didn't notice them while driving, so I wouldn't mind if they were missing). The T150 scores another point for the nice clicky feel of the shift paddles, which is in my opinion way better than the "spongy" paddles on the G29. Also a side note, the T150 doesn't offer hard mounting points (although there are some third party solutions for this). Lastly, the pedals: They are very similar in styling and feel. Neither set is particularly good or bad and you'll get used to both.
In short: In my opinion the T150 feels better while driving, if you don't mind the rubber grips and overall cheaper feel. But if you can score a good deal on either one, go for it. Both are a great way to enter the realms of proper force feedback steering wheels.
@@dertodestoaster1509 I use a T150 with a strip from a microfibre towel wrapped around the wheel and stitched in place, easy to do and if you put a touch of glue on the slippery plastic bits of the wheel (which I didn't) then that along with the rubber will hold everything very firmly in place, feels miles better
@@dertodestoaster1509 maybe the wheel is comparable but the pedals arent even close unles you get the upgraded thrustmaster pedals
@@smeghead666 I wrapped my alcantara covered TSPC open wheel with the replacement tape you get for recovering tennis bat handles. Feels great and it gives the wheel a bit more girth.
I remember a time when logitech setups were pretty much the best you could get, oh how times have changed.
Whats the best/lowcost now?
@@ignaciorosales6040 you seriously can't go wrong with the Logitech setups but in my opinion I would recommend a thrust master t300, one of their cheaper belt driven ones.

Great content man very informative and your jokes are A1 i dig the channel keep up the great work
4:14 HAHA!! Cracked me up outta nowhere.
I've been using a £40 DFGT for the past 2 and a half years and think it's brilliant. I'll probably upgrade at some point though as I kinda want a clutch pedal and h-shifter
The difference in noise levels and FFB strength is great when you upgrade to the G29 from the DFGT, the G29 is a really noticeable improvement, and the pedals feel much better. The DFGT for me was an an absolute bargain and amazing re-entry though (my first wheel was the old Microsoft FFB wheel which cost me about £200).
This is so helpful a the moment. I'm trying to get into sim racing and this helped majorly. Thank you
Buy f1, the best racing game
Great presentation and easy to understand ✌️
I have been playing GT sport on my Thrustmaster T80 for almost a year and the product I have now is a replacement cus the first one did not shift up or did not accelerate fully or both. I would've bought the G29 but it was too pricey compared to the T80 and I realized why it costed so less later on. The T80's all plastic design was just disappointing with a bit of low quality rubber at the places u normally hold the wheel i.e, 3 o clock and 9 o clock. And, no force feedback and all the fancy shmansy buttons and the list would go on. Point is, buy the right sim wheel, not the cheapest one.
Hope u learnt something!

It has all the features this wheel has (heavy steering and slack), metal pedals and real (but vague) shifter. G-forces are about the same as the best simulator, more realistic when driving over typical Serbian road.
And best of all, it would cost about 300€, last longer and take 4 friends for fun and 2 packs of beer.
Ja isto razmišljam uzet yuga ili ovo sranje
I live in germany and never heard about this car. u would molest everybody with just driving this shit here. can't imagine this shit
Ili ladu kupiš glorious Russian engineering
Also known to make great wheelbarrows.
Also would break down ever 20 meters
Thanks for the review!
