I love your analogy Of Adam and I agree, a tough upbringing , losing three Moms and helping to raise two siblings at such a young age while dealing with his own loss made him into the strong , confident, reliable Man we came to know, a Man who was able to help his Father on the ranch and help raise his Siblings as well as becoming an Educated Man with aspirations of his own, It's a pity that Dortort couldn't have been more forward thinking and gave Pernell the chance to move his Character on to progress!

The series was about love of family and humanity. The character of Adam was the cool dark one with a bit of mystery. He was the intellectual with an edge. All of the characters had a deep and rich aspect to them. Pernell was a terrific actor. When he left the show there was a huge void in the dynamics between the characters that was.never quite restored after he left. The producer and creator achieved the perfect balance of a relationship between the characters, with the perfect actors to portray them. When Robert's departed the show, I continued to watch it, although with less enthusiasm. Adam was my favorite of the Cartwright's. Without him the show was always missing that essential element. With the stories, the writing, the acting and all aspects of the production quality, being so good, the show still stands up today. Adam personified by Pernell, could never be replaced. Actknowledgement's to Pernell Robert's, a fine actor in a great series.

How lovely it would have been if we had seen more episodes of the boys as young children . Adam was such an important member of the family and more effort could have been put in to keep him longer. Bonanza was so iconic and beautifully cast, still loved to this day by so many of us.

Loved this video about Adam mostly because he’s my favorite 😍 He did have a tough “childhood” and grew up having to act as a second father to Hoss and Little Joe.

I did enjoy your character study of Adam.
I find myself only watching episodes with Adam.......just not the same without him.

My favorite character, played by my favorite actor! I think your description of Adam is spot on! I believe that Ruth would have been the only woman that he would have truly loved.❤💕🥰

Thanks for sharing your opinion of Adam. I definitely agree with many of your comments. His dismount was just as elaborate as every move he made.

I thought everyone would like to know that the Adam character was originally conceived as Evan. Pernell asked DD to change it to Adam to honor his mother’s father, Adam Morgan. His grandfather was also a minister. @Barbo

I have discovered that two of Pernell Roberts wives were doctors. He was attracted to strong, intelligent women in real life.

I loved this episode. Yes! Adam riding Scout/Sport was the highlight of any episode. I never thought of him being President, but I did think he could have been the first Governor of Nevada. For me, Bonanza ends after season six. If only David Dortort had agreed to let PR continue on the show part-time. Adam pursuing a political career would have made a good storyline in that case. Sigh! If only…

"For me, Bonanza ends after season six." Me too. I tried to watch a couple of episodes but that empty chair at the head of the table, and only the three left 'riding into your living room' at the opening credits was SUCH a reminder that - by all measures - Adam had really 'died' ( in many ways) and would not be back. It's sort of interesting that whenever the full Bonanza series has been released on DVD the sales drop off DRAMATICALLY after season 6 - Pernell's last season. WAY more Adam fans out here than some might think ! Including, as you can see, ME - by my avatar ! :)

@@voiceofreason7856 “It’s sort of interesting that whenever the full Bonanza series has been released on DVD the sales drop off DRAMATICALLY after season 6 - Pernell’s last season.” I only have the DVDs up until season 6. Whenever I watch a later season, I have to fast forward through the opening sequence. It still breaks my heart to see just the three of them.

@@kimmoore8266, Oh my goodness, you have echoed my sentiments and actions pertaining to Adam and Bonanza to the letter. I too only have seasons 1-6 due to my love and devotion to Adam Cartwright/ Pernell Roberts and I do the exact same thing when I watch my episodes of Bonanza , I just fast forward as well and you are absolutely correct, it's so very heartbreaking to watch Bonanza with only the 3 of them, there are some very nice episodes but once Adam was gone that actually did it for me

I do enjoy your analysis of the Cartwrights, Adam did have a difficult childhood, while the younger two had an easier more settled time. The scene in A Journey Remembered when Ingrid is killed and we see a young Adam holding his baby brother is very poignant. ❤

Enjoyed your commentary on Adam, it isn’t uncommon for parents to rely on the oldest child for helping with the family, Ben and Adam have a special strong relationship, maybe not quite equals, they are parent and child but a closeness that I can depend on you if needed
