I like the Michael Landon story. I think the guys were all happy to see Pernell go because they knew it’s what he wanted, that he wasn’t happy at Bonanza. Hearing about him and his Mom is so heartwarming. You gotta love a guy who is good to his mother.

As far as hats, I also read that he realized he needed to wear them, because, being part native, he would tan very easily, and did not want to be typecast.
