Didn't you forget one very special writer? Michael Landon who learned his skills from John Hawkins- on the job - wrote many of the scripts in the later half of the series. Some quite outstanding. In fact, his Bust sits in the Television Academy garden of Hollywood greats BECAUSE of his writing, - acting., directing and producing, of course. But you must know that.

Oh yes. I do mention Michael’s writing several times in other episodes. Learned from scratch on the job. Became very accomplished.
