Good for him! In Royal Houses, serving in The Military for Princes is a must. In future years, both Prince George & Prince Louis will do time in the Military. They may go to Sandhurst that all of the Sons of King Hussein (RIP), went to as well as his daughter Riyah. 😊
@@raysevere5417 Experience aside, if you get inches from someone's face while screaming at them then you're being disrespectful. I don't know how the military defines "respect" but it isn't the definition the rest of the world is using.
Honestly, seeing how determined and genuine that Luis is, is super motivating. Like he wants to better himself and make his family proud of him. How he’s turned his life around is amazing. Id love to know where he is and Rachel are at now. I’m sure they’re doing great things.
They’ve both separated from the Navy. They served their initial commitment. Doing some Googling, Luis is apparently up in WA, still doing photography. And Rachel is back in the DC area.
Right on! Airforce rates those rooms! With the budget alloted exceeding the other branches combined. There is a reason, get past your cognitive bitter barriers and you may be able to appreciate all of our facets.
Youknowwho y’all air force have it lucky i’ve been in the navy for a year. and in boot camp if we looked at our petty officers we would get yelled at. if y’all don’t look at your sergeants and stuff you get in trouble
I graduated Navy Boot Camp in January 1991 in Orlando, Florida! I was a scared 18 year old immature kid, who had never left home, it was the best decision I ever made ❤
My grandparents lived behind the Naval Base (off Gen. Reese Rd). We would hear the graduation ceremonies every Friday. He was retired WWII Air Force (Army Air Corps) so he had base privileges and would take me to the PX, library, and officers' club as a kid. It has now been redeveloped as a housing community but the park has a great name, "Blue Jacket Park" after the "ship" there....I'm sure you know what I am talking about. Thank you for your service.
I went through "Camp Orlando" in 1994. What a joke it was...the RDCs were in-fighting and our Chief got fired for some unknown reason. Back then I felt like it was indeed a pump rather than a filter. This film encouraged the fuck out of me that my daughter will actually be working with sailors that would be able to pull her out of a smoke filled space if necessary.
I really enjoyed this video. This boot camp video took me down memory lane. I was a recruit at Great Lakes Training Command during the summer of 1992. The entire program has changed. When I was training there only males being trained at Great Lakes. The female recruits were trained in Orlando, Florida.
Boot camp instructors are usually sailors who failed to do their dedicated Navy jobs properly and got demoted to instructor job. You have to hate people to like that job. See the movie Full Metal Jacket!
@@jameskoralewski296 yeah but that was the old and this is the new, a lot of stuff has changed so you can't really base anything off of a movie unless you were actually a bootcamp instructor or someone enrolled in bootcamp many decades ago

@SinemaCins No, most countries military put a "if" in there and are a defensive force to protect their nation and it's borders from being grabbed by other countries , not an attacking force...
Holy fuck man I’m surprised you weren’t the MCPON at one point. Jesus Christ the navy has to give you 100% retirement pay instead of 75%. Shit you earned it. My hats off to you for that much time served
I've met Chief Kalaw in my ship's galley during my boot camp experience. He randomly sat in front of me and talked to me about mental toughness. It's a once in a lifetime experience that I'll never forget. Graduated May 31, 2019. Hoo yah, 216!
I remember one of my RDCs made us raise our hand and click our recruit pens for 30 min straight because some smart ass wouldn't stop clicking his pen. Lmao
My favorite person in this documentary is Rachel. I loved her confidence and that she was very sure of herself. And the fact that she was a Navy brat. She knew exactly what she wanted. And mission accomplished. I love the fact that she came from a loving and supportive family. I wish her and all the other graduates the best.
To anyone looking to join or waiting to get shipped off. Boot camp is the easiest part of your navy career, it’s hard as hell for the first couple weeks because it’s a culture shock, you’ll question the decision you’ve made and if you should’ve just stayed back home. But after a couple weeks you get used to it, and get acclimated to the environment it gets a helluva lot easier. My tips to y’all would be 1. Listen to the instruction your RDC’s give you, they tell you everything you need to do for every task you’re given, all you need to do is execute 2. Trick yourself into thinking it’s fun, you’re not going to want to do everything they tell you to, but you just need to stay positive and make yourself enjoy the training 3. Always remember why you’re there and what got you to the point you’ve made it to Just remember there’ll be good days and there’ll be bad days, keep pushing through, never get complacent, just keep learning and growing as an individual. I didn’t study a damn thing before I shipped off, I learned my general orders and chain of command when I got there (study all that good stuff, don’t be like me lmao) but I mentioned that so you know that I went there unprepared mentally and physically and still pushed through, y’all can do it to. Good luck to anyone who’s thinking of joining and anyone who’s soon to be shipped off. HOOYAH NAVY!
When I joined the US Army in 1967, the drill sergeants didn't give a rat's ass about us calling home to say we arrived safely to basic training. Come to think of it, they didn't give a rat's ass about anything . . . period.
I just graduated yesterday 07DEC23 and what an experience it was 😂 so many stories i will never forget good luck too anybody who is planning on joining!
Yeah, imagine that, being interested in something other than what you are or do and learning about it. Congratulation, you are ***not*** the first Human Being who's done that.
Maaaan fuck the military 🪖!! Going to war for a cause that's not yours!! Like in Vietnam 🇻🇳!! Doing the devil's bidding!! OLD Men (white ones) start wars and YOUNG Men & Women die in them!!
Luiz genuinely putting his heart into it especially given his background from the streets and being made fun of for his accent, he was inspiring even to me. I keep thinking about how he said "Hopefully next time I can get a better score" and thinking to myself "That's the kind of attitude I need. "Get a better score" at real life.
Remember, entering Boot, Halloween Day, 1979 Great Lakes. Was 21 among 17 and 18 yr olds. I felt like 90 HATED Drill instructors. Got in trouble, MTU Then they talked to me, I cried, a MAN WAS BORN LOVED THESE GUYS. At the end is a complete transformation from the beginning. God bless you, our young men and women SAILORS ❤️
For anyone coming to watch this because you're about to go to basic, here's some advice. I attended Navy basic training in 2011 and Army basic training in 2021. No matter your age I'm telling you that you can make it if you believe you can. It gets better after basic. It's just a couple months and YOU can get through it. It's ok to cry, it's ok if you have doubts, but it's not ok to quit. Even if you're the most out of shape, least intelligent, most shy/socially awkward person in your division, you can make it as long as you push yourself. If you feel like your RDC/DS/DI is singling you out, it's because they're trying to prove to you that you can be better than you think you can. They know that you can handle it, and even if they break you, you'll have an opportunity to rebuild yourself better. Don't stress about the little things, do your best at everything you can and keep improving and you'll make it through.
@justinfriedman2039 How was it like going tru Army basic 10 years after navy boot camp? I been out of the navy since 2014 and was thinking about enlisting into the Army.
“As long people in this world want to take your life because of where you live and where you breathe you must be ready, if your not ready we don’t need you.”
I ship out in 3 days and this video made me feel like i was there. It made me scared, gave me second thoughts but i also made me feel like i was there, my heart was racing like i was the one doing the physical test. It felt like i just graduated with them. These people look so proud and happy and i love being praised and the minute my family watch me graduate, it will be the best day of my life. I pray i get through this with no more problems and come out as a United States Salor of the Navy. Wish me good luck!
Being a drill for any branch is shitty. They get barely any sleep or time to themselves, at least that’s how the army was. My platoon sergeant was a drill and explained that it gets more irritating than fun
@@ZumbieGuy Yeah, but I'll tell you that they never forget that one rule of life. No one feels sorry for them. But I do have a ton of respect for what they do. They obviously did sign up for that role, but they wanted to. I hope one day I have the conviction to feel like I can accomplish that myself and do it everyday without faltering. You're a hardcore babysitter for your whole day. It's gotta be wearying after awhile, on any person. They get a lot of respect from me for what they put themselves through. Big ups to my drills out there.

God, to be in bootcamp again. I was in ship 07. The Chicago. Same as this Division. I recentlh graduated. I was in the first training group to graduate on a Thursday instead of a friday. The point was to give our families more time to spend with us before going to A School. The bond between you and people in your division is just amazing. I have multiple people's numbers from bootcamp, including my AROC. It really wasn't bad. I cried myself to sleep from homesickness the first few weeks, but after that. It was great. I even liked ky RDC's. Chief Harris, Petty Officer Obryant, and Petty Officer Phillips, if you see this, thank you.
Lmfao. That's hilarious. I goofed up too, only it was another recruit who heard me say "Yes, Drill Sergeant" and he corrected me. Can't imagine the drilling I'd have gotten had the RDC heard it. River me too man, but I’m not even joining the navy, my partner is and I prioritize understanding what that will be like for them over my education now😂
Went through in 2012. I'll give some quick advice to the newbies going through shortly. 1. Don't quit. The first week or two suck the most. If you quit, you don't go home immediately. It could be weeks or even months before you are processed out and you will always regret it. It gets easier when you learn to not be in control of you anymore. You are a pawn. You signed up to be a pawn. Be a pawn. Just do whatever you're told. 2. Embrace the suck. Pretend you are in a video game like Halo or something and the sucky parts are just a cutscene before you get to the fun cool stuff. 3. Sleep when you are allowed to sleep. Don't be that recruit giving motivational speeches after lights out. Tell that recruit who is giving motivational speeches after lights out to STFU. 4. Don't volunteer for anything. 5. Blend in. Don't be a stand out. 6. DO NOT EAT MUCH BEFORE THE GAS CHAMBER. Granted, we had it a bit harder. Usually you go in a few rows at a time, then you do your thing in there, then they open a door to the outside and you run out allowing for the chamber to air out some It was raining on gas chamber day for my division so because RTC rules were afraid of rain, the chamber just got saturated. When my time came to go in, the chamber was so damn full of gas, you could feel it immediately even with the mask on. If you've got a full stomach, theres a good chance you will puke. If you puke, you stay in there until you clean it up. Eat less that morning. 7. Do NOT join unless you know how to swim. Too many recruiters will say "You'll learn" or "They'll teach you." No. It is a horrible inconvenience to go through basic swim lessons. I could not believe how many people did not now how to swim before hand. 8. Don't tell bootcamp stories if you make it to the fleet. No one cares and it makes you seem like a boot. 9. (not a tip) Good luck. Don't quit. Lever 2000 sucks. The fleet can be the best and worst party you ever had/job you ever had/friends you ever had/ friends you ever lost/ saddest moments/ proudest moments/ funniest moments/ hardest you ever worked/ easiest job ever/ and best damn character building possible. I loved the shit out of it and while I am so proud of what I have done outside of the Navy and the wife and baby I have now, I still miss it every single day. also dont say "hoo-yah" outside of bootcamp. No ones does that, weirdo.
1977 to 1981. I loved the video, brought back some memories even from my time in, oh so long ago: 1) Home sickness was the biggest enemy for most (me included)... it was the leverage they used everyday.. as you progress further you gain confidence and they begin to lose their leverage. 2) Don't let the Navy get you in shape and by all means, don't let the Navy teach you to swim!!! 3) It will be an experience your friends from high school who didn't serve will miss and you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life. 4) in my 4 short years, I witnessed Boot camp, "A -School", my first ship, a shipyard overhaul, Guantanamo Bay, a Med Cruise, a second ship, hometown recruiting duty, 6 months of Shore Patrol and 18 months on a submarine base Scotland and along the way I visited a dozen different countries. 5) So who comes out better prepared for life? Some kid with with a worthless degree and a massive student loan or a veteran of military service who was a part of something bigger than themselves, trained to adapt, to work as a team and the meaning of respect and honor? 6) I retired as a plant manager, debt free @ 55 ahead of all my friends. (life skills learned)
I will gladly take the assistance they will give me to learn to swim and get in shape. Tired of how I lived my life and I'm ready to be shaped in to what the Navy needs.
Never forget the day I got to call home and tell my parents I was to be a sailor of the USN. Never forget the day I walked through my tiny home town in my working white uniform and seeing a good few of my classmates that riddiculed me, saying Id never make it, it was their doubt that fueled my success.
I graduated basic about a month ago, now waiting to be shipped to Connecticut for sub school. I've noticed a large demographic of service members are 1st generation immigrants. Our division had a doctor, whose practicioners license was issued in Kenya, and here at TSC Great Lakes I've met a couple AECFs who immigrated from Barbados and Venezuela.

I admire his determination, and am proud of our Navy To every sailor and veteran - thank you for what you do! ⚓️🇺🇸💙
Thanks for this video. I enlisted and went to basic (USAF) in 1976. After we were issued our clothing, we only had combat boots for the duration. No tennis shoes for our physical training, no gym clothes either, just fatigue’s. All marching/formations were in combat boots as well except graduation day when we wore our dress blue uniforms. I retired in 2000 after 24 years. Hats off to all the new recruits who volunteered for one of the most exciting adventures they will probably ever have and the memories and friendships they’ll make along the way. I still miss it to this day and would do it all over again in a minute! Cheers
I get tired of hearing people say Marines or Army boot camp are so much tougher and therefore are better; they’re all tough, and no matter what branch you join, you’re doing a very honorable deed by going through boot camp and serving our country.
@Mike I certainly agree! No matter which branch one joins, the individuals who make it through boot camp are changed individuals ,and they all deserve proper respect.

When a Marine is aboard a ship being deployed to God knows where, those Marines count on the sailors to do what they were trained to do. Basic training assures that each branch of service supports the others. oooah!?
I agree. Their attitude was "whatever, just get through it". I went through Navy boot camp in San Diego in 1985 at age 17 and even then I snapped into shape very quickly. My company began with 84 and graduated with 62. Drill company 945, 1985.

That's just how it works. They usually aren't yelling because they're mad. When I went through, all three of my rdc's would spend 15 minutes yelling their heads off and immediately go into the office and start laughing with each other.
This was my division. Not my most pleasant memories, but certainly not the worst thing I’ve ever done. The camera guys were NOT cool. They were always asking for more footage of us getting beat.
No one and I mean no one wants to be set back in training in any branch. Even thinking of the possibility is a huge motivation to keep pushing for everyone. I’ll never regret joining the Army, it was a worthwhile experience. Never give up, and continue to push yourself forward! That’s probably the best advice I can give. Edit: it’s more of a mental challenge than a physical one.
Agreed about the getting set back part. I got snowed in at the airport in St Louis and didn’t depart for Fort L Til the morning. Because of that I missed the cut off day for the cycle of training, and because it was during a low period of the year there wasn’t a training cycle starting the next week. Because of this I miss the starting date of my AIT class and once again there wasn’t another class starting the following week so all in all from start to finish I had about of month of dead time, all this meant that I missed my goal of getting done in time to go back home and participating in HS graduation. It actually bugged me so much I talked to a chaplain about trying to delay AIT and instead he arranged for me to take a three day pass to go home for the ceremony. Found out later that my drill sergeant from basic found out about my situation before I was even aware of it myself and was making the arrangements on my behalf.

@@senko147the legendary va loan is one of the few things you are entitled to. Depending on the price of the house and a few other factors, you might be able to buy a house with low interest, and zero down. Depending on your rate, you can get certain qualifications that are desirable by companies in the civilian world. Top those qualifications on your time (experience) doing that particular job, and you'll find a well paying job after you get out easily. Only about half of your income is taxable. The money you get from basic housing allowance, food allowancd, and other auxiliary pays (depending on your job; i.e. sea pay, hazardous pay, etc) are non-taxable. My tips to y’all would be
1. Listen to the instruction your RDC’s give you, they tell you everything you need to do for every task you’re given, all you need to do is execute
2. Trick yourself into thinking it’s fun, you’re not going to want to do everything they tell you to, but you just need to stay positive and make yourself enjoy the training
3. Always remember why you’re there and what got you to the point you’ve made it to
Just remember there’ll be good days and there’ll be bad days, keep pushing through, never get complacent, just keep learning and growing as an individual.

Don't stress about the little things, do your best at everything you can and keep improving and you'll make it through.
i leave for basic on the 15th. I’m a bit nervous but i’m ready, i know this will make me into a better person.

say something I'm giving up on you hahaha
@ only enlisted run boot camp...there are no officers. Officers are for the academy

1977 to 1981. I loved the video, brought back some memories even from my time in, oh so long ago:
1) Home sickness was the biggest enemy for most (me included)... it was the leverage they used everyday.. as you progress further you gain confidence and they begin to lose their leverage.

Yes Luis! I feel a strong sense of pride that he is in our US NAVY. He is the embodiment of an American. He came here, and maybe struggled because he wasn’t from here, worked hard, became a citizen, and became a sailor in to serve in the Navy. I admire his determination, and am proud of our Navy
To every sailor and veteran - thank you for what you do!
Cheers
What are you doing for work post military?
I get tired of hearing people say Marines or Army boot camp are so much tougher and therefore are better; they’re all tough, and no matter what branch you join, you’re doing a very honorable deed by going through boot camp and serving our country.
Mike just watch a vid of Coast Guard boot camp certainly no geedunk treatment there!
Hell yeah. I did army boot and you couldn't pay me to go through any branch's again. They all suck in the best way
@Mike I certainly agree! No matter which branch one joins, the individuals who make it through boot camp are changed individuals ,and they all deserve proper respect.
@@bwax3135 "I did army boot and you couldn't pay me to go through any branch's again. " I've been out of the Army since 08 and consistently have nightmares that I re-up and have to go through basic again for some reason.
well... Marines and Army dont learn Battle stations, probably dont go thru fire school or damage control aboard a ship on fire either, But i can assure you this. When a Marine is aboard a ship being deployed to God knows where, those Marines count on the sailors to do what they were trained to do. Basic training assures that each branch of service supports the others. oooah!?
The twins had a poor attitude from the beginning. Bootcamp ain't no joke. You either gone fall in line or get left behind. Period.
I agree. Their attitude was "whatever, just get through it". I went through Navy boot camp in San Diego in 1985 at age 17 and even then I snapped into shape very quickly. My company began with 84 and graduated with 62. Drill company 945, 1985.

My company commander called it ASMO (Another shithead Moves Out)

Top those qualifications on your time (experience) doing that particular job, and you'll find a well paying job after you get out easily. Only about half of your income is taxable.
