      If you are talking about the CG Captain that gave the intro speech, I agree.
      What I liked about it was that it clearly laid out the mission, but also left recruits of the understanding that the service and country "need them to complete their mission". So often people go there feeling like they have no reason to be there or not good enough. Letting them know day one that something bigger than themselves NEEDS them really changes thing. Sometimes it will be the first time that a young person will ever hear something like this.

    Advice I got from someone who served was to get as much sleep as possible whilst on the bus, screw getting to know the person sitting next to you try and get whatever sleep you can, cause once you're off that bus you won't be getting sleep or much sleep at all during the time you arrive(BTW THIS IS MOSTLY FOR THOSE WHO WILL ARRIVE AT NIGHT TIME). He told me when he arrived there at the base camp location at close to 9:30pm it took them to 3:00 am to get into bed and guess what happened? they were woken up at 0500 2 hours after falling asleep and he straight up said it was hell.

      If you are able to sleep on the bus headed toward basic training, you have balls of steel. After some time in training, you'll be able to sleep anywhere, at any time. I was in the Airborne, and whenever we boarded a plane for a jump, I fell asleep within a minute. I wasn't the only one, at the 10 minute call, everyone leans left and right to wake up anyone who might be asleep next to them.

I think it was like a week later they brought in these AT&T trailers, like 18 wheelers trailers that was an entire "phone center" full of little booths and we had to PAY for that shit, and we only got 10 minutes. There was a person at the front taking the money and gave you a phone code to unlock the phone, and when that shit cut off, it hung the F up done or not. $3.00. We had one pay phone in the barraks that they eventually took the padlock off of. Then as time went on they put a couple of phones in the day room, but somebody was always on them MF's, couldn't hardly use them.

    To everyone in the comments talking about how “unnecessary” and “uncivilized” recruit training is: That’s the entire point. The instructors don’t just yell and scream for the hell of it, it’s by design. They need these recruits (especially those in the Marine Corps and Army) to be able to function in highly stressful and chaotic environments such as a combat zone. If they don’t learn how to operate in such environments, they will shut down and not be able to function and complete their mission when and if that time comes. Combat is ugly, and your leaders are not going to hold your hand and politely ask you to load your machine gun or grab the extra ammo when grenades are exploding and people are actively shooting at you.

      So yeah, it ain’t pointless, it’s the most cost effective and easy method for them to fill a need.

Would've been a lifer for sure. Told the recruiter I knew I would be a liability on the front lines; I didn't care if I was in the rear with the gear...at the end of the day I would still have the honor of serving my country.

Our military currently are not taking any actions that serve to aid anyone in need, do your research into what our forces are actually being used for. If you join the military you would simply become another pawn for the government to use in it's oil tycoon. If you want to serve the american people look into other service jobs like firefighting, police work, etc.

    I would LOVE to see Business Insider come to Canada to look into the Basic Military Qualification of the Canadian Armed Forces. There really isnt much media out there of what exactly goes on at BMQ ever since the old tv show Basic Up! got cancelled. I would love for future recruits to be able to get an idea of what's precisely they have waiting for them once they get sworn in.

    I went through boot camp in 1985 and I didn't learn anything worthwhile or anything that improved my life. When fraternities and sororities do things like this to their pledges it's called hazing and is a crime.

    Excuse me, but where is the Marines bit???? Did we get the Secret Service & Coastguard instead?? Or am I just a thick Brit??

      No, I noticed it as well. They seem to snub the Marines in this video, we only get to see the first bit of the Marines receiving process. I was kind of disappointed.

    The new way is better than shark attack. It’s like they do it in the IDF, “Gibbush.” I’m an old school 11B OSUT. I went through Sandhill circa 1990.

    Isn´t the shaving of hair a measure to stop the spread of lice or fleas? Doesn´t not shaving hair of women make this practice seem it is about control or demeaning toward male cadets?

      they are women, let’s be honest here the men are the one getting in the most combat, they can handle getting their hair cut, a female cannot due to the fact that they grew it out for years

    • @squiggzzz
      @squiggzzz Місяць тому +1

      It's the fastest way to get males hair into regulation while also taking away any sense of individuality. If you all have the same haircut, that's one less thing to differentiate you from someone else. Females may not have their hair cut, but they are still held to a strict standard of what it can / can't look like.
