What It Takes To Survive Coast Guard Boot Camp
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2024
- We spent four days inside the United States Coast Guard's intense, eight-week basic training program in Cape May, New Jersey. Coast Guard recruits undergo an intense journey that’s heavy on both academic and physical challenges. What sets it apart are the brutal “smoke sessions,” where recruits are disciplined as a group for mistakes made by individuals in their respective companies. We were embedded at Training Center Cape May for four days, allowing us to see different companies at various stages of the program, culminating with the emotional graduation ceremony on the Friday of week eight.

I am proud to say my stepson just graduated from this academy (July 2023). Yes, he wanted to get out. Yes, he said it was dififcult. But most importantly, yes, he is an accomplished and proud part of the USCG.
Thank you, Cape May and thank you video crew for publishing this so we can all receive a small glimpse of what it means to become and be a United States Coast Guard.
Congratulations to all who have and will continue to make it through. May God bless you each of you the strength and wisdom.
Congratulations to your stepson.
@@edprince9079 Thank you very much.
Wanting out means it is working.
I'm now 73 years old and graduated from Coast Guard boot camp in June 1969. It was the experience of a lifetime and brought back mostly great and a couple of painful memories. It was well worth it. And believe it or not, boot camp back then was much worse than a lot of what was shown in this video. After boot camp, I was stationed aboard the USCGC Ingram in Norfolk, VA. After a unique set of assignments, I was promoted to Yeoman First Class during my first 4-year enlistment and finished undergraduate and graduate school while on active duty in 1976. I also spent several years in the Coast Guard Reserves. I owe my life and a diverse and successful number of careers in the public and private sectors to the USCG. I am proud of the men and women who serve this vital military organization, the nation's oldest and continuous sea-going service. SEMPER PARATUS!
Much respect. Thank you for your service.

My childhood friend worked his ass off to become a Canadian coast guard. He made everyone so proud, but he had a wakeboard accident that absolutely destroyed his leg and ability to walk, subsequently loosing said employment. Saddest story I know, and even sadder seeing what he had to go through to get where he was. He has since been able to become an EMS first responder, so that will do. Can't keep down a legend.
Make no mistake, Canadian coast guards do not go the same grueling military experience as the USCG.

Some information that they missed is: They can send you back as many weeks as they want as discipline. But it also depends on what you’ve done. When you get set back you change to the company before you. Also, you do get breaks near the end of boot camp. The first time is in week 7 or 8 when you can go to the exchange and restaurant on base and also use your cellphone. The second time, you may go off base. However they do not allow you to go to the beach, because they can’t risk anyone getting injured. Once there was a girl who got badly hurt. I think she broke some bones? Anyways, I believe she was in boot camp for about 20ish weeks. But she finally graduated with my brothers company last year. Another thing is; someone got sent back to week 2 i believe for flicking the company company commander on the bus right after he graduated. Also, credits to my brother for this info!

Sierra 112 here (6/1982) - I think one of these companies was Sierra as well. This brought back a lot of memories. Same barracks, though the bunks were newer. It looks like it was the hooks not in on the bed that got you in trouble, with ss it was not having the combo on your lock set to zero. God forbid a locker was not locked - White Tornado (CC trashed the whole place). I'm not going to tell a "log cabin" story but here's a few things that have changed. First, nice sneakers. They use New Balances. Ours were canvas - think PF Flyers. One of my feet got so bloody they eventually allowed me to purchase a decent pair of running shoes at the Exchange. I also noticed them using M-16s for marching/attitude adjustments. We used M-1s which were heavier and longer. Overall, though, brought back many memories.

Well no, for the entire time you were enrolled, you were told what to do, where to go, when to go there and were controlled like children with extremely strict parents, so when you did something "bad" you got punished. You had no control over your life and you didn't need to practice self-control or self-discipline or anything, they took care of that for you, but then when you come home.......no one's there to discipline you and you no longer have the self-discipline you once had, you're like those children with extremely strict parents I mentioned earlier, running around, finally free!......and a mess
And *none* of it is your fault, the system only cares to prepare you for whatever you're going to be facing during service, not to prepare you for what you're going to be facing once you go home, after you have served....after they broke you down..........
