I'm now 73 years old and graduated from Coast Guard boot camp in June 1969. It was the experience of a lifetime and brought back mostly great and a couple of painful memories. It was well worth it. And believe it or not, boot camp back then was much worse than a lot of what was shown in this video. After boot camp, I was stationed aboard the USCGC Ingram in Norfolk, VA. After a unique set of assignments, I was promoted to Yeoman First Class during my first 4-year enlistment and finished undergraduate and graduate school while on active duty in 1976. I also spent several years in the Coast Guard Reserves. I owe my life and a diverse and successful number of careers in the public and private sectors to the USCG. I am proud of the men and women who serve this vital military organization, the nation's oldest and continuous sea-going service. SEMPER PARATUS!

Some information that they missed is: They can send you back as many weeks as they want as discipline. But it also depends on what you’ve done. When you get set back you change to the company before you. Also, you do get breaks near the end of boot camp. The first time is in week 7 or 8 when you can go to the exchange and restaurant on base and also use your cellphone. The second time, you may go off base. However they do not allow you to go to the beach, because they can’t risk anyone getting injured. Once there was a girl who got badly hurt. I think she broke some bones? Anyways, I believe she was in boot camp for about 20ish weeks. But she finally graduated with my brothers company last year. Another thing is; someone got sent back to week 2 i believe for flicking the company company commander on the bus right after he graduated. Also, credits to my brother for this info!

The Coast Guard is so underrespected. Not only do they have to be a military organization, but they are also every form of first responders out there. They aren't just people who drive boats, they're policeman, they're paramedics, they're firefighters, they're servicemen. They do more than just sit in the water all day and night, and I respect that.
Technically the US Coast Guard isn't a component of the US Armed Forces. It was a part of the US Treasury Department until 1967. After that it was part of the US Dpartment of Transportation. Then in 2003 it was placed under the Department of Homeland Security.
@@Truly1Tom Very interesting. I wonder why it was part of the treasury department, because doesn't that just involve our country's economics? I guess that's kinda why the four main branches don't really see it as a "branch" in all the memes then.
@@JM-nl9ow It would make sense considering what their jobs entail. Especially if you are in their special operations. Edit: changed from special forces to operations because green berets.
I went thru in 1988, during the winter. I was lucky that it was snowing so we didn't have to do the obstacle course. Anyone considering USCG, make sure you cam swim or learn to swim prior to going in. This will relieve a ton of unnecessary stress. Also, get in shape (push ups, sit ups, run 2 miles frequently).
I see me myself as more of a Fedarl Law Guy instead of military but the Coast Guard would be the closest to that since they help out with Life Gaurds and them.
It's a game you play and it's only temporary. Once you graduate and get to your first station you make good, life-long friends (which are actually hard to come by).

Sierra 112 here (6/1982) - I think one of these companies was Sierra as well. This brought back a lot of memories. Same barracks, though the bunks were newer. It looks like it was the hooks not in on the bed that got you in trouble, with ss it was not having the combo on your lock set to zero. God forbid a locker was not locked - White Tornado (CC trashed the whole place). I'm not going to tell a "log cabin" story but here's a few things that have changed. First, nice sneakers. They use New Balances. Ours were canvas - think PF Flyers. One of my feet got so bloody they eventually allowed me to purchase a decent pair of running shoes at the Exchange. I also noticed them using M-16s for marching/attitude adjustments. We used M-1s which were heavier and longer. Overall, though, brought back many memories.
And I have glasses so they get all foggy. Sometimes my dad didn’t even yell, but as soon he would say “autumn it’s just multiplication” I would BREAK DOWN

When did this happen
The Coast Guard is so underrespected. Not only do they have to be a military organization, but they are also every form of first responders out there. They aren't just people who drive boats, they're policeman, they're paramedics, they're firefighters, they're servicemen. They do more than just sit in the water all day and night, and I respect that.
Hell yeah we are. The amount of CPR I'm required to know for our Small about station is insane.
@@xtnsn4395 You had to do more than the basic CPR class at a small boat station??
Great advices: 1.) avoid creating unwanted attention. 2.) observe everything around. 3.) be a team player. 4.) Don't quit / Never give up.
6) Never gonna let you down
Remember, the stress you feel in boot camp is Normal and temporary

Great stuff 👌
I went thru in 1988, during the winter. I was lucky that it was snowing so we didn't have to do the obstacle course. Anyone considering USCG, make sure you cam swim or learn to swim prior to going in. This will relieve a ton of unnecessary stress. Also, get in shape (push ups, sit ups, run 2 miles frequently).
