They just need to change the Oneshot at Joes House into a Celebrity D&D, with Stephen Colbert, Terry Crews who is now also into it, Big Show, Deborah Ann Woll, Joe of course and Matt Mercer as DM..
Manganiello's face as he realized Colbert was asking if he could join his table. The best. S: "I'm coming out for the Emmys. Are you going to be out there at the end of September? Maybe we could play?" J: "Are you kidding?" S: "Alright. Let's do it."

@@joelg598 Matt Mercer is magical, but the majesty of Critical Role is as much the excellent players as it is the DM, and just the friendship that shines through, that tells you what is possible when you play this game.
@@Saldio I really love CR, but I wouldn't call them excellent players. Video after Video I get so see that they only know half of their character skills. They were still in their 40's or 50's episode of the second campaign when asking "what does that do" about skills that were used dozen of times before, like 'Bless of the trickster' or 'Bless' They always forget to add some of their feats when dealing damage. Sam still asks in a 70's episode after having advantage on an attack, if he get's his sneak attack. And that's a core feature of his class.... I get that they only play once a week, and it's easier for me to recall their skills as I'm watching them more than once a week to get up to the current episode, but still, there things they really should know by now. (And I myself only played like 3-4 times and DMed 1 4h game, so I don't have the biggest knowledge of DnD) But what they are, are excellent actors and they play their roles really well, 98% of the time, which is REALLY good. But rule- and skill-wise, they lack a lot.
Hahaha yeah. as a gamer since i was like 6 i love this interview. Mostly because the audience is just looking around wondering how they got that chandelier up, waiting for the "nerd" talk to end.
The even better part is that as of now, Matt Mercer has DM'd for Stephen, Joe and Vin Diesel, and all three games are recorded on UA-cam for posterity.
To be fair to Vin, outside of that one shot he did with CritRole to promote his shitty fantasy movie, I think he hasn't really played since he was a kid. In fact I'm surprised he managed to get in touch with Matt Mercer and company to do that one-shot, since Vin seems more like the type to hang out with Tyrese than he is to hang out with Big Show or Taran Killam, let alone a bunch of nerdy voice actors who stream themselves playing Dungeons and Dragons.
@@romxxii You do know Vin Diesel did the Foreword for DND's 30th anniversary, right? He had a campaign running between him, COlm Feore, Karl Urban, and Judy Dench during the filming of Chronicles of Riddick. Dench attributes her playing D&D with her grandkids to Diesel teaching her lol

Now whoever runs this channel +The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, why don't you let Stephen know that the Cast of Critical Role has been dreaming of getting him on since the start of the show 3 years ago. Joe's been on so you know it's legit. (30,000+ viewers every Thursday on Twitch).
Most likely the result of this segment I suspect. Although... he did say a lot of writers play at his house, so maybe it was going to happen one way or another.
The path to Colbert's Guest Role on Critical Role is underway! Too bad Joe didn't Mention CR and Matthew Mercer. Stephen is Matt's bucket list Guest Player.
Stephen is definitely on the path, but I don't think a guest appearance on CR would have made logisitical sense at this point. The Emmys are on a Monday night, when Stephen would be visiting before likely returning on a morning flight since he has his nightly show to host. Rescheduling the entire cast and crew for CR to be able to play on Monday would have been a logisitical nightmare if it was even possible at that point (since all the players, Matt, and the crew have other duties through their days and likely intentionally leave their Friday mornings somewhat lighter due to their typical late Thursdays). I hold out hope that we will see his guest appearance someday, but this trip was just too spur of the moment to work out.
Watching Stephen’s reaction to Joe explaining 5th Edition character creation rules put a big ol’ dorky smile on my face. I want to play D&D with Stephen so much. And of course Joe rolls a natural 20 the one and only time he picks up the die.
Watching Joe talk shop about D&D makes me so happy. Watching Stephen match him beat for beat has me crying happy tears. The only thing is I wish he had mentioned that he played live streams, and point people to watching Force Grey and Critical Role if they want a great example of what the hell he's talking about.
I'm so glad that Joe and Stephen are so genuinely passionate about D&D (not just being trendy). It gives me hope that I can eventually get enough people truly interested in setting up a campaign. haha
LOL. Love this interview. Stephen surprised the eff out of Joe with his knowledge of D&D. if the producers didnt stop him they would of still been there and brought out the game and played D&D hours later

As a guy who played D&D way back in the 80's, I love this. There were so many good times playing with friends and making fun stories, and that's when it wasn't 'cool' to be a nerd, but we all had a great time together. This, and the team from Critical Role really make me smile as I watch and remember those times.
I would want to be there when Vin Diesel walks into his basement yelling, "I heard you was talking shit," because Joe questioned his nerd cred on national TV.
It could sound odd..but for me, as player of DeD, is so weird to watch this fragment. I saw Joe playing with the crew of Critical Role and I loved it. The weird thing is that a movie star could speak about this fantastic game with a big TV host in front of thousands of people. It's sound so strange to hear this arguments on TV or to watch rolling some dices on air. ..I don't know, I'm so glad but dazed at the same time. Finally the gamers around the world pop out and show themselves without fear to get critics from other no gaming people.

My nerd cred is worth nothing if I don't correct this false equivalency between Dragonborn and Half-Dragons. Dragonborn are a race of clan-oriented humanoid creatures, typically aligned toward a lawful sense of honour and duty, while Half-Dragons are solitary, evil-aligned hybrids of true Dragons and another humanoid race (usually humans) produced by interbreeding or ritual. They are enormously different in appearance; Dragonborn have less natural armour, leaner builds, and lack the tails sported by Half-Dragons. If Joe's paladin was indeed fathered by a shapeshifted dragon, it's not hard to imagine him breaking his Sacred Oath. Half-Dragons are forever tormented by their draconic lust for a privileged position in the cosmos, while their mortal natures serve as a constant reminder of their failure to fill this need.
i just love him more now the fact that he was proud to go on national television and say that he;s really into something most of society would cringe at. #respect

I genuinely love this, Stephen and Joe nerding out on national television is the greatest thing to ever be put on TV. I could watch them nerd out for hours and be insanely happy, even without knowing a single thing they're talking about!
Lee GaryB if you want to change that, go to the order of the stick webcomic
Watch Critical Role on UA-cam. You might be surprised 😉
Lee GaryB go on UA-cam and search critical role you're welcome
Oh it's your comment that Joe quoted! I just came to the comment section looking for you. 😄
Get thee to a PHB! :)
I had the biggest smile on my face watching this, it was really wholesome seeing both of them enjoy a conversation about D&D. When Joe realized that Stephen really new what he was talking about you could feel the connection. It’s nice to see such popular people being nerds in front of a whole lot of people.
As a nerd, I love it how Colbert is just spot on with his fantasy knowledge
MRTN13 like he said, you don't come into his house and just drop Tiamat lol
Yo Critters, we are getting closer and closer to a Colbert guest star on Critical Role
Let's make it happen, critters assemble!
I can't wait to hear the words "Ok Stephen, how do you wanna do this?".
Matt.
Yes!!! Make it happen! Him and Mark Hamill
This video is already showcasing Travis Willingham being interviewed by Colbert so we're already there, such a shame he doesn't have longer hair more often.
This is the best thing in the world. Get Stephen into Critical Role!
Edric Chan 😭🙏
Yes please!!
We are not worthy
Edric Chan Halfing Bard or we riot
I dunno...have you seen the pic of him as the paladin with the flaming sword?
One of the best “Nerd interviews” ever. The awkward silence of the crowd was hilarious. 😂
There's also the one where James Franco tried to out-nerd Stephen and hilariously failed.
We still need Stephen Colbert to guest on CelbriDND
They just need to change the Oneshot at Joes House into a Celebrity D&D, with Stephen Colbert, Terry Crews who is now also into it, Big Show, Deborah Ann Woll, Joe of course and Matt Mercer as DM..
Or Critical Role... please
I really need him in Campaign two! Hes such a nerd!
Oh god no please
Please no... celbriD&D is terrible. I rather see Cobert as a reoccurring guest on Critical Role.
Manganiello's face as he realized Colbert was asking if he could join his table. The best.
S: "I'm coming out for the Emmys. Are you going to be out there at the end of September? Maybe we could play?"
J: "Are you kidding?"
S: "Alright. Let's do it."
Stephen Colbert, you need to take a part in a session with Critical Role! They have already expressed that they would love to have you!
Without Laura and Travis thouh? give them a year to come back then do it XD
Critters unite!
Rises both hands with 9 finger out... :P
Did they not get found on the live show?
It doesn’t quite mean that they will be back since Matt can RP them however it is always good to hope for the best.
3:51 I love how Joe suddenly realizes that Stephen is the real D&D deal and immediately considers him an asset for his gaming dungeon. White Plume Mountain with a bunch of Hollywood wisecrackers? Well, that would be a show unto itself.
That would be SO sick to watch all of these high-top hollywood actors play. I would watch the stream haha
Stephen: maybe we can play..
Matthew Mercer steps in: *hold my GM screen*
I think Mercer refers to himself as a Dungeon Master (DM) instead of Game Master but yeah.
That was magic when him and Stephen solo... you can just see the amazement and joy in Stephen's eyes the entire time. I really hope they can bring him back for more one shots or as a guest on Critical Role.
I had heard of, but never seen anyone play D&D before watching that red nose game. Because of that 1 hour one shot I now consider myself a Critter and I play in two campaigns...what a life changing UA-cam video.
They were still in their 40's or 50's episode of the second campaign when asking "what does that do" about skills that were used dozen of times before, like 'Bless of the trickster' or 'Bless'
They always forget to add some of their feats when dealing damage.
(And I myself only played like 3-4 times and DMed 1 4h game, so I don't have the biggest knowledge of DnD)
But what they are, are excellent actors and they play their roles really well, 98% of the time, which is REALLY good. But rule- and skill-wise, they lack a lot.
Steven Colbert should guest star on Critical Role, that would be awesome.
Yes!
Please!!!
Joe would be better, he's like Travis' brother or rival.
@Charlie Extra: Joe HAS starred on critical role. He performed an act so huge he possibly situated his character as a future villain of the world.
oh he did?! cool but I haven't seen that one. thanks.
The thought that 90% of the audience is scratching their heads at this interview pleases my inner geek greatly.
You mean your inner nerd. Don't mix up geeks and nerds.
Drive Fast
I think this interview was pretty geek and sundry
D&D is for geeks and nerds, astrophysics is for nerds only.
Yeeesss, we were all in a satanic cult! And this was before video games!
Hahaha yeah. as a gamer since i was like 6 i love this interview. Mostly because the audience is just looking around wondering how they got that chandelier up, waiting for the "nerd" talk to end.
Stephen's face when Joe calls out Vin Diesel lololol
@@EonofAeon no, I didn't know that. The one time I've seen him play D&D as an adult was during the Geek and Sundry special to promote his movie based on his D&D character.
well, he doesn't have to play with famous people
Colbert doesn't hide how much of a nerd he is. I get the feeling his producers were like, "Hey we can get the guy from true blood that's married to Sofia. Wanna interview him about the shows he's done?"
Meanwhile Colbert's just thinking, "SWEET. I get to talk D&D!"
I bet he thinks the same thing whenever he may have the chance to bring of LotR
When Timothy Chalamet came on, he basically redirected the entire interview to talk about Dune, which no one is even promoting yet and doesn't come out until next year.
You know mostly everything you see on tv is scripted right? He has a writers room behind him and his guests are given talking points and keywords.
To be honest I don't think, that he would think Sweet... I think he would think: FINALLY!!!
@@ThePeacePlant 20+ year dnd player chiming in here. It's nerdy as all hell, but who cares. Doesn't change that you're a man/woman/etc that you play dnd, but it does make a you a nerd, but again there isn't anything wrong with that.
News flash, there was never anything wrong with being a nerd ever, they were just convenient scapegoats for pop culture to make fun of.
This is so gloriously nerd and cool which I never thought would be said of the same people before. The 90s me would never have believed me if I explained what type of thing would be happening in this year
Are you kidding? The 80s me would never have believed this (hell, members of my family TO THIS DAY STILL think "Dungeons and Dragons" is an instrument of Satan himself! 9_9).
Amen-Ra brother, were on the same boat
I started playing when I got to uni (2013) but people in my area still thought DnD was for weird nerds. I took it a step further with LARP (2017) and my parents legit think I'm worshipping Satan.
Tangeena Islam: Not quite the same thing, but I'm from the Deep South, U.S.A., and Southern Baptists believe so much stuff is connected to Satan (good thing that, unlike Manganiello, I never got into Hard Rock or Metal music; they would have dragged me into the church for an 'anointing' ^_^)
Chup Smith: If it was me, I think it'd be worth it to do a performance piece (making sure a friend got it all on tape), where I incited them to anoint me, then started screaming in my best demon voice, "MORE HOLY WATER, MY ASS ISN'T CLEAN ENOUGH!"
When I grow up, I want to be Joe Manganiello.
And I'm 40.
Don't give up hope, you will get there.
You're in luck! Joe is currently 44 (in 2020).
I'm curious as to why your handle isn't "Commodore64life"
no kiddin'. the man is married to Sofia Vergara and he plays D&D in his basement in LA with celebrities in the show business whenever he wants. He's a frickin' legend. he's my hero.
Same, but I’m 48. Also, I really want to like your comment but it currently sits at 666 likes (for a comment on a video about D&D) and it just seems wrong to mess with that.
"I hear you are a fan of the Dungeons and Dragons. Is this true?"
Joe: *Literally sitting there with a Death Saves jacket on*

They can even get ashley in all the episodes no way will they land stephen.

Agreed, tell Marisha to make it happen
Stephen looked so happy to nerd out with Joe! My college boyfriend introduced me to D&D several years ago. It was pretty fun to learn all the rules and play along with my dorm buddies.
Wasn't he on critical role ?!
Not sure what I like more...... some famous bloke on about DnD or the comment section FULL of critters
have you heard about The Traveller?
Jester's Sketchbook I heard he’s a really cool dude. Saw a pamphlet in Zadash.
Absolutely loved this, they really were passionate about this and you can watch videos of both of them playing D&D, the fact Stephen even went a bit like "Screw the audience for a minute, I just need to know more about his D&D campaigns" says a lot!
Is this the first Nat20 on network TV?
😯
Pics or it didn't happen.
it just happened.
I would like this, but the thumbs up are at 666 and I can't mess it up.

OMG Stephen have Joe introduce you to Matt Mercer who is one of the best Dungeon Masters around in September when you come out to LA. I hope you get this on tape for all of us D&D fans to see. Make a Critters dream come true. Is it Thursday yet?
Proof that he was a big nerd was that he auditioned for Peter Parker in the first Spider-man movie, but later got cast as Flash THompson
After Arkhan attaches the hand of vecna
Vox machina: you're our friend, we don't want to fight you!
Arkhan: I wouldn't want to fight me neither
Holy shit I did not know that was him
He looks a little too big to play Parker..
The stormbringer moment was amazing
I can't help but feel like critical role helped so much both for Joe's new clothing line and for that revitalization of DnD that hes been putting together
"You don't come into my house and drop tiamat and think I'm not gonna drop bahamut at the same time"
The way Manganiello leans back and gives a look when Colbert brings up Bahamut is priceless
@@rudewalrus5636 he leaned back to make room for the massive chub brewing in his pants.

Stephen was literally the perfect talk show host to interview Joe Mananeillo about this.
If they ever have Stephen for a game, it will most likely be a pre-recorded one-shot, CelebriD&D style.
Watching Stephen’s reaction to Joe explaining 5th Edition character creation rules put a big ol’ dorky smile on my face. I want to play D&D with Stephen so much. And of course Joe rolls a natural 20 the one and only time he picks up the die.
That's a level 12 host, ladies and gentlemen
Well, that's only because he's multiclassing. Level 12 host, Level 16 nerd, and his wife and kids would have to determine his level of Dad.
You giving him Epic Levels now?
Hmmm, true... maybe it's more like lv 12 nerd, with host being his prestige class?
Fella maxed Charisma and Intelligence
im used to crowds roaring with jubilation with a 20 roll, this crowd didnt even know to clap till Stephen chimed in xD
The hidden D&D geek in me desperately wants to be in that group.

There were so many good times playing with friends and making fun stories, and that's when it wasn't 'cool' to be a nerd, but we all had a great time together. This, and the team from Critical Role really make me smile as I watch and remember those times.
100% my favorite interview on this show EVER. Good to know that Stephen can do more than politics and being upset.
I love these two trying to out nerd each other.

There is. I think they broadcast their games.
I wished that he'd live stream his games like Matt "The God" Mercer
I would want to be there when Vin Diesel walks into his basement yelling, "I heard you was talking shit," because Joe questioned his nerd cred on national TV.
His D&D dungeon in his wine cellar is the golden ticket in Hollywood. The minds that hang out there and nerd out are running the industry.

It could sound odd..but for me, as player of DeD, is so weird to watch this fragment. I saw Joe playing with the crew of Critical Role and I loved it. The weird thing is that a movie star could speak about this fantastic game with a big TV host in front of thousands of people. This has got to be the most alienating interview on mainstream late night TV and it's pretty awesome
What about metallic Half-Dragons?
His character is Dragonborn but he uses a variant setting Houserule that allows for a tail.
Depends on the world, of course.
"Dragonborn? How does that work?"
"Well my mom was a dragon and my dad was extremely brave!"

Or maybe he is playing 3.x where it was a prestige class and not a race.
