My respect for her just skyrocketed that she supports Joe's hobby so much! Even if she doesn't understand it, she sees how much fun they have with it and defends it on national TV.
Seth, the dude is handsome, married to an extremely beautiful woman and have a bunch of friend who enjoys playing D&D with him. Why do you even try to make fun of him?
Because he no longer has a career being a childish ass on SNL. He's stuck with shitty basement quality late-night TV. He should play. That way he might learn something from what is essentially hours upon hours of brilliant improv every week.
The definition of a great spouse. She doesn't understand or care for her husband's hobby, but she fully supports him because it makes him happy. And she found a way to make it fun for herself to entertain.
Yeah, I don't understand it(Seth's condescending attitude towards Dungeons & Dragons) myself. I am a big life-long fan of comic books and while I love the fantasy genre, I was never particularly into D&D. However, I would never make fun of or look down on someone being into D&D. There's nothing wrong with being a fan of Dungeons & Dragons, just as there is nothing wrong with being a fan of comic books. And neither are just for kids. I would expect Seth to know this about D&D but as someone else on here in the comments section pointed out, it's also about what people have been exposed to and experienced and in Seth's eyes, D&D is this weird and and funny past-time that he doesn't understand and he can't understand how an adult(let alone one like Joe Manganiello) could be into it so his response is to subtly mock it. I get that all the time as an adult who is a die-hard comic book fan. Some people just can't grasp why I would be interested in comic books but I think the important thing is that if it's something the person likes, is passionate and cares about, then that's all that matters. What other people think about it is what DOESN'T matter. And we see that with Joe Manganiello and D&D-his being passionate about it and caring about it and taking it seriously and Sophia Vergara sees that and understands that, too. So I think that could be another reason why she's cool with it and supports it. But as I said in another post on this comments section, Seth was making himself look bad by making fun of D&D. If you're a fan of comic books to turn around and mock someone for being into Dungeons & Dragons (when many comic book fans are into D&D, as well)makes no sense.
He's also a giant nerd, but he is interviewing someone who is not. You try to see things like your guest to bring out honest and natural answers. They are both working, don't think this was not pre-planned.

But it's not annoying, it's what different people have been exposed to and experienced. In Seth's eyes D&D is that thing the kids from Stranger Things play, so it does seem weird and funny to him in a similar way to Salma Hayek's pet obsession or that story about George Clooney's pet pig, see what I mean? This is layman's observation of Joe Manganello's D&D passion, while as Colbert's interview was the geeky one, where kindred spirits of similar passions meet. Watching both interviews makes the picture whole :)

Really? That is cool. He isn't my favorite of the D&D illustrators, and I've met all of them from back in the day, but he always painted the most awesome dragons, so it makes sense that he would paint a dragonborn. Just the fact that she would think to get that as a gift for Joe is very cool.
2:12 "Still plays Dungeons & Dragons, that can't be true." Good Lord Seth, that is such an ignorant statement. I played dnd when I was 9-12 and now, 18 fucking years later I got back to it and use D&D AT WORK as part of education of problem solving, learning social queues, communication, etc. It works magic, it's the best thing and I haven't met a single person who after trying D&D doesn't like DnD. It's not for kids, everyone should try roleplay and grow as a person because of it.
@semmel no, he definitely implied that it was a bad thing. Critical Role just broke $7.5 million for their kickstarter which only asked for $750,000. They met their goal in a matter of days. Seems like not many people share Seth's shitty opinion and I love it!
He worked hard for what he got and was also lucky to be discovered. He was a construction worker before he got into acting. He is very serious about D&D, and his sports, but he is also a working actor with good roles, and I see him doing things that Sofia likes to do all the time, and he stays in amazing shape, so I think he works hard to make her happy as well. I just want people to know: As I write this, Joe Manganiello has actually put together games for an entire table of "jock guys," notably the WWE Superstar known as Big Show, among others. Vin Diesel plays as well. And the fact that Sofia Vergara is married to Joe, who defends his hobbies on national TV? Just...extraordinary, I must say. *Chef's kiss* Just saying, Dungeons and Dragons? It isn't just for "nerdy-ass voice actors" or geeks and nerds any more. It is, and has always been, "E For Everyone"!
Adam Rutherford oh I've seen it, its one of my favorite so bad its good movies but its nowhere near as bad as The Room. And there's actually been 3 i think, i know 2 for sure but i think there was a third. He wants to make a big budget serious movie that is made by people who respect the source material without going "look how goofy and dorky these dumb nerds are". Most people would actually love playing a tabletop RPG, if you love scary movies/stories play Dread, love the political dealings and backstabbing in Game of Thrones play The Burning Wheel. There is really a RPG for everyone and D&D can make a really great movie given the right people working on it.
A Tang Yep, he is. So are Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper. You can actually watch Vin and Joe play in separate videos on Nerdist and Geek & Sundries channels.
Wow.. just lost respect for Seth. I'd love to see the reactions of the people dnd is helping with social anxiety problems and other issues to this video.
I want everyone critiquing Joe to know Vin Diesel also plays, and has been playing since he was around 8. He even made a couple of movies based on his characters (well, more than a couple, as one of the 2 characters was what became Riddick) and the other was the last witch hunter.
And. Actually, im not going to list all the cool celebrities that play, because that would take much too long, instead, go look it up. I guarantee you'll be suprised by how many people play, especially those that you wouldnt expect
I personally do not like how he talks about D&D. It's not part of the joke or anything he just speaks with the demeaning manner towards the game. I understand the dungeon joke ( because let's face it all of us playing D&D have thought of that type of joke once ). Sadly the media stigma from the 80's is not over yet.
Been Playing D&D for 30 years. Almost every Sunday. Our group has consisted of a guy with two Masters degrees, housewife, janitor, lots of military, stripper, paralegal, and a ordained preacher. Jocks, geeks, the rich and the poor. Everyone plays. The only real requirement is an IQ over 100. With the right group that can even be waived.
I imagine Joe wanting her to play with them at least one game, or one shot. He could create a character that would suit her - some beautiful sorceress, or noble woman who has a dark secret. He could buy her the prettiest shiniest dice set, that would make her say "Ok, I will play with you." And then she would realize it's not a game for dorks, it's AWESOME. And then she would tell that to Seth.
Joe has the ultimate man cave game room with dragon heads on the walls and... Seth has never heard of such a thing? Ummm. Really? I suppose this means "game room" is not part of pop culture vocabulary like I thought it was then.
joe is like the luckiest man alive, super buff and handsome married to a beautiful faithful woman with as much charisma as he does. successful celebrity couple both of which are staple working stars in the business. and gets to play dungeons and dragons whenever he wants. sick
I can't decide who I actually like more. Sophia is cultured and beautiful inside and out. But she's also more of a "let's go check out the city" or "let's go take a fitness class" kind of friend. Then we got Joe. ...and he speaks to another big part of me. D&D, or table top rpgs. Not only that, he plays Arkhan the Cruel, who's a pretty badass chaotic Dragonborn. I mean, rolling with him on any adventure of the imagination, that's gotta be dope. In short, Sophia hangs out in reality, which lets face it, sometimes being present isn't all bad. Then Joe hangs out in his imagination, which is limitless, but I could argue so is life. Without life, there isn't imagination.
That's so different attitude from Amber Heard who called Johnny's friends a bunch of old boring men playing guitars (while they are actual rock legends). What's Sofia is doing is really showing her love through accepting her husband, letting him be himself and enjoying by seeing him happy. That's so sweet
Ah people still thinking that DnD is still lame. Come on Seth you are better then that, its not 30 years ago where people think its lame and didn't even try to have an open mind about it
I played D&D when I was a kid and now my adult son does. It confuses me because there's girls that come over for it. Where were these girls when I played?
My first experience of the game was on college so we just convinced some girls to play with us. It wasn't that hard we just invited the "imaginative" ones
seth is a comedy *writer* most of his friends and colleagues come from *long form tv storytelling, theater and improv* both *creative and performance* backgrounds, he might do mostly sketch and late night formats now but you need the knowledge and experience in the rest to be well rounded as he is. it's just weird to me, he seems to be the type of person who would thrive in a concept like RPGs but he seems not to understand them by diminishing d&d as "nerd kids played it in the 80s"...
Kristian Stave he tried to cut her man down to score “dominate” points. Only issue is, anyone can talk about someone when they aren’t around, and second, the dude has Sofia as a wife and still plays whatever he wants, sounds like a real mans dream of you ask me! Haha
Seth is a representation of every guy “You WATCH people play video games? How dumb” *Continues drinking beer and watching people exercise* “You collect toys? How dumb” *Neatly puts away baseball cards* “You watch superhero movies? Grow up” *watches action movie where guy with no military experience fights ten guys*
I am astounded at how ignorant people are. I'm not meaning Vergara, but people in general, like the fact that these ideas are common enough to have entertainment value.
When Sofia mentions "Pretty Girls", I immediately think of the cast of critical role and I was like "All 3 of those 'girls' are spoken for". But then again, it's Joe and his club is very exclusive.
3:08 - i mean, even as a women Sofia Vegara, I would start to have some thoughts when the doorbells would ring, and Deborah Ann Woll, Laura Bailey and Marisha Ray (all actors who are seasoned D&D players, but also happen to be very pretty) stand in the door and say "We are here for Joe's D & D".. But, I am sure Joe would let her play with them if she would be really interested :) She seems to be very likeable! Look like you rolled a natural 20, Joe ;)
*Although I am a Vampire: The Masquerade fan, I can respect Joe's passion for D&D and Sofia supporting him. BTW: I can totally relate to Joe's Steelers passion, as I am a MASSIVE fan of their cross-state rivals The Philadelphia Eagles.*
Joe, living the life. Playing D&D, figurines... AND has Sofia Vergara as his wife! Nothing but critical hits dude.

Ok Boomer.
Go back.
To be married to Sofia, be athletic like Joe AND love D&D, what a guy!
It's comforting to know that even a yinzer who becomes a celebrity is still a yinzer at heart.
Go Stillers!
Omg just saw her say the same thing on Colbert
sami hussaini same answer to same question, what did you expect, a twist!!
Sofia to Seth: "It was a wine cellar but now it's like a dungeon..."
Joe to Stephen: "It's the Gary Gygax Memorial Dungeon"
don't matter who you become, that little nerd inside of us never truly goes away. You can see that she loves it
"You approach Sofia... make a persuasion roll...."
_rolls_ "Natural. Twenty."
_everyone_ "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH"
I just wanna know:
Why on Earth did I just read this comment in Matt Mercer's voice, followed by Joe's voice? Because that _totally_ just happened!
Having Sofia talk about his dungeon and hear Joe talk about it, are two very different things.
Their "wine cellar" sounds amazing!!! My hubby and I have goals now...
While this was going on Joe Manganiello was in LA on critical role
Jacoby Boyer no way! For real?
And that video probably got more views than this one.
@@KthulhuXxx very likely. Him and Travis are gold together.
Joe has the ultimate man cave game room with dragon heads on the walls and... Seth has never heard of such a thing? Ummm. Really? I suppose this means "game room" is not part of pop culture vocabulary like I thought it was then.
joe is like the luckiest man alive, super buff and handsome married to a beautiful faithful woman with as much charisma as he does. successful celebrity couple both of which are staple working stars in the business. and gets to play dungeons and dragons whenever he wants. sick
Critical Role. UA-cam it Seth.
Had never heard of Seth Meyers until today. Hopefully ill have forgotten him by tomorrow.
Come on Seth you are better then that, its not 30 years ago where people think its lame and didn't even try to have an open mind about it
A lot of people have that same mindset with Pro Wrestling or "Sports Entertainment" as Vince wants to call it.
Sounds like Seth needs to give D&D a try!
My mother used to the same thing. She brought us drinks and snacks, she loved to hear us laugh, talk and have a good, fun time.
I played D&D when I was a kid and now my adult son does. It confuses me because there's girls that come over for it. Where were these girls when I played?
Razorfish not born yet 😂
its called progression. its not a "boy" thing anymore. its an "whomever" thing.
My first experience of the game was on college so we just convinced some girls to play with us. It wasn't that hard we just invited the "imaginative" ones
The same place all the girls that like to skateboard, not born yet.
This made laugh out loud 😂
seth is a comedy *writer* most of his friends and colleagues come from *long form tv storytelling, theater and improv* both *creative and performance* backgrounds, he might do mostly sketch and late night formats now but you need the knowledge and experience in the rest to be well rounded as he is. it's just weird to me, he seems to be the type of person who would thrive in a concept like RPGs but he seems not to understand them by diminishing d&d as "nerd kids played it in the 80s"...
Yeah, like Colbert, who is a huge geek/nerd, and knows all about D&D.
Media making fun if DnD, how shocking...
I love her perspective and good attitude when she said, I could have worse problems.
Have yall seen pics of that dungeon? its dope AF.
Am I the only one reacting to Seth having one of the biggest A list actors on his show and only asking questions about her husband?
Kristian Stave he tried to cut her man down to score “dominate” points. Only issue is, anyone can talk about someone when they aren’t around, and second, the dude has Sofia as a wife and still plays whatever he wants, sounds like a real mans dream of you ask me! Haha
Seth is a representation of every guy
“You WATCH people play video games? How dumb”
*Continues drinking beer and watching people exercise*
“You collect toys? How dumb”
*Neatly puts away baseball cards*
“You watch superhero movies? Grow up”
*watches action movie where guy with no military experience fights ten guys*
she's very talented and beautiful !!
I am astounded at how ignorant people are. I'm not meaning Vergara, but people in general, like the fact that these ideas are common enough to have entertainment value.
I fucking knew it wouldn't last. Only a D&D player could fumble this.
This is my favourite Sofia look. So stylish
Why does Seth treat it like Joe is uncool? Having a dungeon with giant dragon heads on the wall is badass
I play DnD as well and so I suppose I better step up for nerd Pride.
She sounds so much like a mom, thats so cool
Joe Manganiello(?) has won life. He beat the boss battle
He plays D&D with the BIG SHOW , you just cannot get cooler then that.
To be honest, as an actress if she would actually give D&D a try, she might be surprised how much of a great experience she would get out of it.
3:23 Bet there's a lot of girls who would like to see Joe Manganiello's "dragon"
Alternative Spicer Not to mention his dungeon
Stop this 😂 He's married to Sofia Vergara, what more could he want
You don't need quotes around it. I saw the video that DnDBeyond did of the gaming area. It has a pretty badass mounted dragon head.
She owned this interview
I love her with bangs like this!
His dungeon is ridiculously amazing.
I've seen a walkthru of Joe's DnD room. It f**kin' amazing.
The crowd does not appreciate how amazing this actually is haha
Jocks Machina FTW!!!
Suggest watching "CelebriD&D with Joe Manganiello" on the Nerdist channel
Dang, I wanna hang out at her place. She sounds like the most hospitable person ever!
I WATCHED HIM PLAY D&D WITH CRITROLE AND NERDIST.
She is so Frank...that's so Adorable ...
Please, make Manganiello be Deathstroke please please please !
......but....he IS deathstroke.
D&D is awesome
All the D&D people repping in this Spot! Salute Brethren!!
She is so sweet ❤
I love how supportive she is of his hobbies even when she's exasperated. They sound like a loving couple.
Yeah, watch Joe on Colbert...now THERE'S an appreciation for the lifestyle.
Went to watch this just after watching and commenting on Joe's interview. :D props!
Sofia is so lucky. She's married to the guy who stole Vecna's hand.
Seth actually looks like someone who should love being invited to an evening of D&D
Joe Manganiello now is pretty much who I wanted to be when I was 14.
