My son is visiting Japan from Canada, and came here in October on my recommendation after I first saw this video when he got to Kobe. He said it was the best Tonkatsu he had ever had, and definitely the tastiest rice bowl. He's headed back to Tokyo next week, so he just asked me for the address again. I know where he's going for lunch or dinner this week.

Chicken Katsudon is one of the premier great-tasting foods that came from Japan that's completely enjoyable and a full meal in itself. I used to cook this when I was working as a fry cook back in 1990 in San Francisco when I was working at a Japanese restaurant called Rice Chef at Kearny street. I never got tired of eating this because of its great taste and the ease of cooking it and all you need besides than the chicken is flour salt eggs and Japanese panko and you have a great meal with some steamed white rice with it.

I know I will likely never get to eat this delicious looking food due to geographical and financial reasons (I'm a college guy in Nigeria) but I absolutely love watching these videos👍 Seeing the hard working restaurant owners and the cheerful customers enjoying their meals is so relaxing.

I was on Okinawa from 1974-77. My friend and I went into a Japanese cafe, not one catering to Americans, and asked what they recommended. Katsu don was her suggestion. Absolutely delicious! I’ve looked for and ordered it whenever I still can.
I’ve had tonkatsu from a Japanese restaurant in Detroit and I liked it from the first bite! Now I’m eager to try a katsuson, but without onions. I am not a fan of onions. Still, seeing all these katsuson bowls makes me hungry!
Visited this place twice while I was in Kobe in April this year (2023). Had the double-katsu on rice once and the Katsu Curry the other time. Both fantastic. Recommended place to go for a good value meal.

Everytime i go to a Japanese restaurant, i always order katsudon even when there's so many other good stuff on the menu. I'm a creature of comfort so i tend to order the same thing over and over again lol and katsudon just happens to be my fave japanese food. I don't think i'll ever get tired of it.

大将がカツ切るときは包丁を2回トントンと助走つけてからザクザクザクと切って、卵かき混ぜる音のカチャカチャと蓋落とすときの音聞いたら安心したわ。
赤だし啜りながらカツ丼来るの待っての至福なんよなぁ。あの太い腕がカツ切って、踵返して炊飯器開けてとやってる姿自体が味の一つやった。

Personally prefer the Pork Katsudon a lot more but both are great.
37年前に職場の先輩に連れられ初めてお昼ご飯で食べに行った時は、こんなに美味しいカツ丼って有るんだと感激しました。
今の場所とは違う斜め向かいのところで、カウンター席も少なめで、こじんまりしているところも庶民派にはたまらないお店で、混んでても
よく並んだものでした。
結婚して弁当持ちになり、しばらくして仕事の都合で転勤してしまい何十年振りかで行ってみると、場所を変え営業していて思わず並んでしまいました。
最近では4〜5年前に行きましたが、私自身の味の好みが変わったのか、行く度に感動が薄れ、普通のカツ丼っていう感じでした。
むかし味わった、感動モノのカツ丼をもう一度食べてみたいです。

通いましたねぇ。サックサクのカツに優しい味のダシとちょうどいい塩梅の卵。
一時間以上行列を待ってる間に、ますます食欲がわく不思議な魔法も。
こんなパーフェクトなかつ丼あるんだと感動しましたね。
まだお店やってると知って凄く嬉しかったです。
非常欣賞日本的蓋飯，觀察到醬汁非常豐富有白飯的醬汁，加上豬排的醬汁，以及再撒上去的醬，真的好羨慕。因為在台灣吃到類似的蓋飯，都瀝的乾乾的，整體吃起來就非常乾。看到這影片的各種醬汁、肉汁都非常豐富，真的好想吃到這種的蓋飯!! 尤其是日本的份量，都是台灣的二倍到三倍以上。

Great place to try in Kobe. At 3:57 lower right corner of the screen. That is *NOT* a urinal but a sink to wash hands.

今は、大将も変わり店も大きく沢山座れる様になりましたね。しかし、店舗拡大で、大阪店や難波店にも出来ましたが、残念ながら全く違う、ただ店の名前を語っているだけでした。三ノ宮 吉兵衛本店これからも大将の味と笑顔を忘れず頑張って下さい。
