can you do this with a magic ring ? all tutorials show it with a chain ring instead
Yes, at least that’s how I do it

The chain ring is standard, but you can use whatever method you prefer. There's lots of modifications that use the magic ring.
The only downside to the magic ring is that when you add too many stitches (in this case 12) the hole won't close completely and you risk your granny square unraveling if the center hole gets too big.
I'm so confused. This looks simple but mine looks a mess. What's the next step. Do we go back into the first chain again or the second then repeat

Is it the chain itself or the slip stitch to form a ring that was confusing?
To get started? Where did the first loop/knot come from?
You make a slip knot which makes the first loop for you and then you can start chaining hope this helped!!

It's Hobby Lobby's I love this Cotton, but I don't remember the exact name of the color.

This was way too fast. By the time your done explaining one stitch you've already started the next step. This is not a good slow beginner tutorial.
