- I turned an old whiskey barrel into a coffee table. I added a hindged hickory top with soft closures. The Hickory came from the Kirkland Saw Mill and they also sanded the top. www.kirklandsawmill.com/
I found the easiest way to cut barrels in half is an angle grinder and cutting wheel. Leave the screws in and cut the band.

It amazes me how many people sand or use a wire wheel on the inside of a barrel, it makes a huge mess. Take a stiff puddy knife and scrape across each stave then vacuum it up. Then run a wire brush the length of it holding a vacuum nozzle next to it, no mess
I learned my lesson after the first time, I used a stiff plastic bristle brush to remove the loose pieces and it worked just fine. Live and learn!

? Do you think you could’ve removed the char with pressure washer rather than sanding
I built another table with the second 1/2 of the barrel and I used the same brush I used on the outside. It worked better then sanding and much less mess. Pressure washer could work but the brush did a great job without getting it wet. Thanks for the suggestion!!

How do you keep from cutting the crap out of yourself from the metal bands in the front of the table?
I hit them with a sanding block and took the sharp edges off
