- Two intrepid fellows set out to track down the fabled long lost Range Rover of Somerset. Once found, can they tickle the old girl back into life and make her roar again?
Project Kermit is a 1978 Land Rover Series 3 109 (long wheel base) which is being stripped right down and rebuilt with a 200tdi engine and a few other improvements.
The other videos in the series can be found in this playlist:

For all those who expressed concern - Mark did indeed get a Full English Breakfast following the successful completion of our mission!
Maximus Ironthumper in the Midlands we call an English breakfast a Black Country salad lol. Great videos Max 👍🏻
I have a serious question. Why is cheese not an integral part of the "full English" breakfast?
Like a success fee basis? :)
@@charmandrews It quite often is when I make it. :)
@@spungletrumpet .. grated cheese over the beans FTW
Amazing machine...after so many years, it started up like it was parked yesterday...I'm impressed.
Fantastic! around and around in circles in the jungle, and then "ah! there it is all along, just where we knew it was" Classic comedy guys, interesting series of videos though I must say, top-notch!
I wasn't expecting that thing to start up , I'm impressed
And to run also
Feeling a bit "meh" and "deflated" at work today... watching Max battle the brambles and burdock (AGAIN! ;) ) should soon lift my spirits.
It's one I sometimes re-watch - just for the last few moments!
After a day of crap travelling, this was the perfect antidote. Absolutely priceless!!! Thank you.
Can’t beat the 200tdi, I’ve owned mine for 18 years and it’s covered over 300,000 miles now, never had the sump off and only done the head gasket once...brilliantly simple reliable engine and it’s never let me down!
When I first saw the way the Range Rover was so buried in the vines I thought let me check how long this video is and first thought was no bloody way this is going to happen in a 9 minute video, absolutely amazing it starts right up and drove out.
Quick wipe down and you can pull up outside the Ritz 😀. Loved it. In fact, I’m going to watch it again.👍
Starting another project before finishing the last one.... I know that feeling!
@@DaysOfDarknessUK I'll try that on the missus and see if it works :)
Just done the same with an old Suzuki Samurai 4x4. Not started for a few year, stuck new battery in, checked and changed fluids, she's now my daily driver and a lotta fun
I actually didn't think you'd drive it away. I was hoping you'd just start it and then tow the Range Rover away, but I was really left with my mouth wide open in surprise when you actually drove the mighty 4X4 out of the rest pit. Land Rovers and Range Rovers are a different breed altogether. Here in Darjeeling, India, there are several Land Rover Series I, II and III still running about. Cheers mate.
That was brilliant. hack your way in, no indication of any life then it suddenly and unexpectedly starts. Then it got no chance of moving, and it drives out! Classic. (Literally).
I watch a lot of "Will it run?" vids but that has to top the list.
Have a look into "straight eight showdown" on cold war motors: epic would be an understatement.
They say .. . ...that 70% of all Land Rover's ever made are still running!
@@gooieboerseun They say .... the same about (civil) G-class Mercs, too, and of about 90% of all (civil) Unimogs, but the numbers aren't very surprising should You ever have _used_ one. They're _designed_ to last and endure, which does contain repairability in the field - so, the complete opposite of every Apple product ever made 😂.
Just ... hilarious. Other "will it start"s involve careful strip down and assessment. This one: Break in; turn key; "I wasn't even trying to start it". Max, once again ...=:-))) - I'm running out of dry pants.
How did at least 34 people understand this?
To clarify then: I thoroughly enjoyed this video; I enjoyed the less structured approach, adopted by other channels, to a "will it start" type video. I have enjoyed Max's other videos. I laugh so hard at some of these videos that I wet myself a little. My laundry regime isn't as efficient as it should be.
@@chriswills9530 Thank you very much Chirs :)
@@SA77888 No worries, mate. Cornish-English at it's best.
@@chriswills9530 Watched a guy unsuccessfully try to exhume an old Austin. Total defeat and inability to deoxidise the points or rig up a lawnmower petrol tank. Healey's Law - if it drove in here it should be able to drive out again.
200tdis are golden. Our old disco gets hacked round farm on red it can sit for months and will go first flick of the key
Nice front tipper dumper too.
Watching that thing drag itself out of the hedge was just epic!!! Made my day!!.
And you did. You drove it all the way back. Awesome! All the best with it. Mark
My simple abandoned stove could no longer work but this ingine started. Excellent
Bullet proof!
Love it.
Cheers for sharing.
This is the best skit I have seen in ages. I haven't laughed so hard in weeks. Can't find the Rangey, here it is parked in a hedge with a tree growing out the engine. Starts first time (sounds like a box of spanners being shaken). Classic. You two need to make more videos. Thanks also for ensuring Mark got fed. He seemed quite concerned.
Forgot to mention - I was expecting Benny Hill theme to kick in while you two were roaming the hills looking for the Rangey.
Love It... this is why you don't buy new and go for a classic instead
I've seen "Will It Start" playlists where the first six 20-min drawn-out episodes consists of opening the hood and getting a battery in there.
Now THIS is British efficiency!!
Love this video 😭😊😭😊😭. The L. o. N. G. Walk to the site then the range Rover instantly starting and lurching from it's grave. Reminds me of the old Herbie movie where the junkyard beetle drives out of the scrap heap to help save the fire station. Watched this 3 years ago and just watched it again classic Max n Mark 👍👍 Daz
This is why I love the 200Tdi in my Series 2!
That was very funny. Well done.
Enter it for a short film competition. Award worthy
This was awesome, not just because I'm a closet Land Rover nerd. The humour made it! Can't wait to see more about the 109 restoration.
Stumbled across your videos last week, absolutely loving them! The irony of me sat in my lounge watching you live a life I could only dream of doesn't escape me. If I hadn't of had kids, I'd have found myself a field by now! Keep up the good work bud. @maximusironthumper
There is no way that should have started. Congrats.
Fix up the front number plate, reinstall the headlight, put some screenwash fluid in, and you're more or less good to go.
Don't forget the grill 😉.
Excellent, my old Defender hasn't run in about 6 years, this gives me hope if I ever put it back together again.
This reminds me of some David Attenborough documentary.......(quietly spoken voice)....."Here in the deepest Congo full of fleshy leaves, we seek a rare beast - the Rangeroverus Classicus - a shy creature know to dwell in deep shrubbery...........but wait..........if we are still we may JUST spot it"...............
@ 9.08. Restoration complete. Good work gents!
Never seen a range rover in a ghillie suit before 🤣
Well if you did see them, the suits obviously wouldn't be working very well would they.
@@benholroyd5221 I realised when they peeled it off the range, silly sausage 😊👍
Either you walked around in circles or you have a lot of property.
Have to love the cat following along.
Well did you get breakfast or a biscuit with your tea
I must show this this to my wife so she can't complain about the state of my old banger. No rude comments please.
Glad to hear Mark got his breakfast. Another amusing and interesting video.
That start up and pull away is the most awesome thing I've seen
If you had listened to the cat you would have found it in half the time! Poor moggy, always getting ignored.
looking forward to your series 3 rebuild, ive watched your series 2a rebuild about 4 times!
I really enjoy your videos...my granddaughter showed them to me...we are travellers too...I am a tinsmith as was my grandfather and his before him....you take good care and best of luck too you...good job!
I reckon you parked it up because the screen wash ran out 😂😃😄😅😆👍
Awesome 4×4 no comments after this video thanks guys well done!
This reminds me so much of the offroaders on The Fast Show, "Gripped" "Sorted"
Except after the "It's gripped, it's sorted, let's offroad" bit, this time everything went terribly well.
Little by little, every video, Max is slowly morphing into Techno Viking.
@turbo ponzy be sued the guy who filmed and made money from the video of him dancing if I recall correctly, he did not want the attention and stuff. Pretty sure there's a mini documentary somewhere around, if not UA-cam then perhaps Vimeo had it
The acres of lands you got is astonishing, it’s a miracle that you can find anything in that vast area, and with that mint Landrover you must be the talk of the town.
You fancypants you. 😂
it's only 2 acres, but some manage to create vast wildernesses with such modest spaces.
Ain’t no way that Range Rovers coming out of........oh there he goes 😂.
“With this many positive waves maybe we can win” 👍
Like an 1980s Levi advert legend 😂😂😂
A real Land Rover dies hardly…and your video proof it!!
200tdi and i was the 200th thumbs up, it's the little things in life.
Original, unexpected and hilarious. That’s made my day. Looking forward to seeing it restored.
I was going to say why don't you go through the driver side but then it dawned on me you are on the drivers side, funny. Starts right up that awesome.
I am totally blowing away as it started amazing been lying all covered with weeds etc lol well done
Love these videos. Seeing as the engine started so quickly, perhaps the title should have been ‘will it stop!’
Maximus Ironthumper ran the Dinky Tinky shop in the foot of the magic oak tree by the wobbly dumdum bush in the shade of the magic glade down in Dingly Dell. Here he sold....
Had a classic like this as well,! parked in a field for 2 years, Started first touch of the key and idled perfect, with a new battery. The l322 tdv8 would barley start after 2 weeks at the airport haha
Watch what you’re doing with those metal tools! You’ll scratch the paintwork 😂😂😂
In some countries it would still cost more than 2k dollars
Looks like you walked the long way round to get there! Can't believe it started up though - mad! Need to get the springs back off mark now!
He sold them on years ago!
The cat knows where it is.
The cat only shows up when he knows there will be trouble.. ;)
Looking forward to Project Kermit, It was the last series of Land Rover videos that lead me to your channel.
The previous owner is going to restore it back to original condition...
Please keep us updated with that project ☺
Best abandoned vehicle start up and drive Iv watched 👍🏻
0:24 Mark - "Sorry I was examining, eh, rocks." :-)
I love it how an abandoned mouse house junker starts better than my actual daily car haha
There are still LandRovers left to buy for cheap, so You could change that. 😄
Great to see you are making more videos!
That looked like great fun, can’t believe it started first time! That’s impressive 🙂
Wow, didn’t expect that to run!!
That was like something from scrap heap challenge.... was waiting to hear someone shout “proper job”
The 200tdi, the best engine Land Rover ever built
Sadly they tied it to a rubbish transmission.
I love it finally people that can acually drive it out of the bushes it was in
I didn't see an old car start like it, awesome!
I didn't expect that so-called vehicle to start up with such ease, very surprising.
You pair are like the missing comedy duo ,again an excellent video you never fail with content 🍺🍺
Look out, Max. There are rumblings of dissent in the ranks. Better get that kettle on, and break out the bacon sarnies!
Wow! Didn't think that would even start! Well funny seeing it drive out of the undergrowth, leaving behind a family of homeless mice! 😁
Epic!! What else are your bushy bushes hiding???... come and help with the range-rover he said... I’ll cook you breakfast he said!! ...
It was a particularly good breakfast. As usual. ;)
Love videos like this, you should make them much longer. Keep up the good work.
That made my Monday thanks gents from across the pond
Brilliant! You two are proper bonkers. Love it!
I feel I helped a bit, in my head I was chanting, “ Start ya b*stard, start ya b*stard! “ 👍
Abandoned my arse! Those tyres held air from the start!
Make sure you clean off the dead body on the bonnet before you get into trouble. Great job guys👍✊
Good to see you got the extra solar panels on your roof, hope they reduced your generator running hours.
Max, what a fascinating life you lead, how at some time in your life does someone end up a with a job lot of defect snow globes !? My life seams so boring in comparison. However, things are looking up :
Mr. ironthumper is starting another lanny resto project. wahey !! Looking forward to the hours of informative and entertaining videos to come! Cheers Max. PS I have own a series III too, but sadly no snow globes.
We need more salty mark videos, hilarious. Withhold breakfast more often methinks!
Can you imagine doing that with the defender you’d just as set light to it .
Tdis are the best
Unbelievable ..living the dream 👊🏼👊🏼
we'll just put these sharp cutting tools on the roof as we pull away, and off we leg :)
A1 video, very funny and entertaining
nice editing to make it look like a long walk. I can't wait to see what you put it in
That was awesome! And so funny! Rapidly becoming my most anticipated you tuber! Thanks for that guys! 🤣🤣🤣👍😂👊
I now have a bruised chin from seeing that thing start up because it hit the floor so hard, that is impressive, especially compared to some other videos where people spend weeks cranking things over to get a single cough... :P
How many of these dead cars and trucks you going to bring back to life on such a small homestead lol, amazing.
Good grief how long had it been sitting there. I’ve seen lost Inca civilisations less overgrown than that . Very impressed how easy it started though 👍
What a good promotion for Range Rover... WOW
Well fancy that bugger firing up in the first go!!
Best 4x4 by far
Just fantastic Feal like i done a days work already TOP VIDEO
Well, impressive, Mate. Sod Mark wheres mine! Cheers
I'd love to come for a ramble through the brambles looking at rocks 🤣 another great vid max ☺
