- Following my previous and rather half arsed effort - a new Land Rover project is begun. Will I do a better job this time? Will I actually paint the finished vehicle??
Project Kermit is a 1978 Land Rover Series 3 109 (long wheel base) which is being stripped right down and rebuilt with a 200tdi engine and a few other improvements.
The other videos in the series can be found in this playlist:

Kermit was the vehicle I learned to drive in. I'm really chuffed that you've started this project. I apologise in advance for the welding horrors you'll find! ;)
spungletrumpet can’t wait to see it unfold and more to that point 😂 give max a hand with the editing so we can have tons more content 😀

1 landrover towing another landrover, using the engine pulled from it. There is something poetic about that.
There's something very Land Rover about it, that's for sure.
Thing is old land rovers never die they just rest for a decade or so every now and then. Good project looking forward to up dates.
Nah, I've actually seen a proper Dead one.
I love Ironthumper projects, they always start with the components being pulled out of a bush. What a bloke. My first vehicle was a LWB 1978 landrover - happy days spent plating the chassis - beware these 70's LWB chassis rot from the inside out. They look fine until they snap in half...
Great project 👍🏻 another one saved!
Another Landy lives on. Great.
I saw the tow ball on the front. Make yourself up a solid bar with tow hitch either end, push and pull all you want.
Hi Max, some 30+ years ago, I restored a SIII landrover for use driving in a marine environment in New Zealand. The vehicle was in such a state that I ended up acid-stripping the chassis, bulkhead, door-frames, window-frames, and all other steel parts, then welding nearly two m^2 of steel sheet to repair all the rust holes -- and then hot-dip galvanizing everything (I had to drill a few additional holes to let the molten zinc out of the internal cavities, of course). The galvanizing was a huge success, and 20 years of hard beach driving later all the galvanized steel items were still intact. This is a long-winded way of suggesting that you might want to consider hot-dip galvanizing for your own landrover restoration -- in my case, the galvanizing was actually cheaper than painting (and, of course, you can't paint inside hollow sections). Love your work BTW...
Nice project. Take your time and have no regrets.
Now you talking this project gonna be awesome! Take care be safe
Wonderfully entertaining and informative.
I have a Land Rover in similar condition out in the field I need to restore.
Nice video-great to see this old vehicle getting some (MAJOR!!) attention.
The older models of Land Rover look so much better than the luxurious, >1990, ones.
Seeing Land Rover videos always makes me excited for restoring mine in a few years.
Very interesting project, Max!!
Max, you are bloody amazing and a fine example of ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way !’
Goes down the garden & find Kermit hiding in the bushes. Time for a few upgrades. Pure genius & why I love watching.
Thank you for video amazing i like restauration💪👌👍😉😘😍
Genius winch and jack work
Easy to pull apart , longer to put it all back together, but great fun . Nothing to hard ,a collection of nuts and bolts, with other bits in between 👌
NICE TO SEE you looking after your ears !
I had to admire your efforts in getting this back to the workshop & there's nothing more satisfying than taking a jet washer to a extremely filthy item!
Awesome, another small and easy project for 2020. lol. You dont do things by half Max. Brilliant.
Loved the video. U are pretty cool how you manged to put it in the garage and shift it with the Hi lift Jack...
that s a beautiful car, you re a very lucky man
Poor swamper gave its heart and soul to help out a lad in need
Im looking at restoring a land rover much the same, i cant wait to watch your journey
That's the most strenuous three point turn I've ever seen!
It is amazing how times changed when old land rovers become quite valuable.
Geez that underpowered Landy drag Kermit sorry ass out of there 😃
See all fours spinning 😵💫
😎
Cheers Max, had a shite 5 days and your antics always cheer me up.
Business has been slack since November, but once it’s starts picking up I’ll finally be able to throw you a beer or two for all the knowledge and entertainment you’ve gave me 👍
Great video and car!
I wish you were my neighbour! I could really enjoy comparing mad projects with you :) Great vid and subject matter is perfect!
Series 3 pick up now thats a great idea ...hahaha i have quiet alot of land rover parts? In the shambles?? looking forward to this project 😁
You already showed me some tools I have never seen before in my life. I thought for sure the chord you used to park the jeep near your shed would break. I was wrong. I love your wife's laugh. Keep going this is good.
The overdrive will be even more unusual if it actually works! Looking forward to this project.
Really love the thumbnail picture in this, "it won't run" and dude is standing in the middle of the engine bay :D
always nice when the donor vehicle can drive directly under the chain hoist!
Great Stuff! Will be watching with great interest!👍
ide love a old land rover, a great project to do. look forward to the videos,. Thanks Max keep it up.
This will be an interesting rebuild!
Looking forward to this and a much better looking assistant 👍
“do a more thorough job...” The mind boggles. Last one seemed rather precise to my ignorant mind. Looking forward.
Fantastic new series to look forward to 👍 wish they were an hour long lol most people watch eastenders or coronation street.. me . I watch maximus Ironthumper 😂 , good stuff , p.s longer videos
TV has nothing on real entertainment :) not watched it for years!
Polecat54941 couldn’t agree more , the only thing I watch on tv is formula 1 and boxing , I could see maximus having a tv show on channel 4 👍 my favourite UA-cam channel by far
@@Lee-qt7zp come on channel 4... talent on your doorstep. He even films his own stuff.
terry atkinson lol 😂 he’s to good for the bbc corruption
I can't wait to see where this project leads. I've watched many of the video's several times. I have a burning desire to live off grid, so the video's on electricity, water etc. are a frequent revisit for me.
Looks like another great series of videos and fixing up a Landie is always good viewing. Fine team work extracting it though I thought your good lady got to tough job, no brakes, bramble infested cab, little forward vision.
Looking forward to this one again
My favourite part of a land rover project, dig it out of the last hedge you parked it in, wash it off, open a celebratory beer and get stuck in to a few months of hard work.
Love the understatement - "It's got a few issues". Made me chuckle!!
Oh boy, what an undertaking! All the best of British! Really looking forward to watching the restoration going forward!
They just keep on coming, cant wait to get through this rebuild.
You, Sir, just made my day. Not only is Max back with a video but with a Landy resto...Your Series II is what brought me to your channel and you never disappointed me!
Proper Landrovers have a PTO shaft 👍 Lokks a promising project, hope you have fun
That's what you call a resurrection shuffle. My favourite memory of the last Land Rover series was Maximus staggering with fatigue after a day of fitting the engine on his own. Everyone loves a grafter.
I'm gonna binge on this, thanks.
Perfect video again! Greetings from Iceland and good luck :)
Excellent go Project Kermit. It should be a nice truck when she has the 200tdi in it. I'm looking forward to following this project.
Loved this. Enjoyed just watching you guys use simple tools and methods, just really cleverly, just to get it turned around and backed up to the work shed. Great stuff.
Max, you spoil us. i can hardly wait for a full off restoration. i used to see a yellow series 2 hardtop for sale in my travels and i regret not buying it. i was too young at the time to appreciate it.
Thank you Maximus you have inspired me to get one of my landy's up and running.
Fairey overdrives are getting rare and sought after, have one on my truck and it does make a difference in noise and fuel. nice project . Cheers
They used to be installed on a lot of V8 Range Rovers here in Australia. My 2 door had one, and it made sort of a difference? Pretty noisy, apparently they are very fragile behind the V8.
Wish I had one of these jacks when I was younger. As we used that trick for pulling cars and 4x4's out of ditches on dirt roads, except we only used a bottle jack and a 4ft steel bar to help push the vehicle to the side
That’s team work!
Pretty handy work getting him to the shed.
Liking the look of this, a lot!
Absolutely love your channel wish everyone lived like this keep up the good work 👍
A Maximus machinamentum. Fantastic to see another Land Rover project in the offing.
Love that rear steer reverse pulley jabberwocky system it’s a hi five from me too 🖐
looking forward to following this project. Great video.
I made a bumper from a thick metal pole that held a street sign. Slash cut the ends and capped off. Some beefy steel mounting frame with holes drilled for D shackles. Made a greeat nudge bar that did! 👍
Yeeeees, I've been looking forward to this series ever since you mentioned your aspiration to rebuild it in some of your previous videos.
Please show loads of details! Watching your videos is one of my favourite means of relaxing after work or over the weekend - the longer the better!
Can't believe how the bulkhead is in such good condition. Great vid Max 👍
I suspect it won't look so good once I get a closer look!
Fingers crossed
Yes! Very exited to get another series
thanks for another great video
Looks to me that the main issue is not the missing engine. stand well back and look ps chock the wheels first! Amusing video.
"It looks better already!". 🤣🤣👍🏽🥳. It does, it will. Got every faith in you Max. x
Looking forward to seeing the project develop!
Brilliant fun to watch, serious graft involved in moving it. You make it look so easy.
Keep up the quality work.
All the best,
Liam.
Brilliant little intro video to a new project, also shows what can be done with minimal tools to move something from a to b. Love it.
Great video. Glad you're on it. Looking forward to this series.
Fantastic! Looking forward following this project!
Hi Max. Looking forward to your new Landy project. Your channel inspired me to start my own UA-cam channel restoring my own Land Rover Defender. Dont get me wrong its years younger than yours and not as much work involving the chassis. If you could give it a quick look over and give me some pointers that would be great!
My family have always had Land Rovers and as a kid growing up me and my dad restored a Series 3. Funny we had load of parts that we accumulated over the years too 😂.
Inspired yet again...... Thanking you
Oh superb, new project, tidy bird in the mix, happy days
Fantastic video
Looking forward to updates on this 👍🏼
i havnt even got past the intro advert and im already subscribing based on the title
What a life youve got bud.
The first video I ever watched was your first Land Rover video.. you had about 3k subscribers... Since that project finished I’ve been quietly waiting on the 109 project, using the ZIL to tide me over in the meantime and watching your channel explode in popularity.
This project will get the audience it deserves and I hope you can make some money doing what you love. You deserve it!
Land Rovers never die.... Amazing keep it up
yes more Land Rover content! love it
Jadi pingin punya mobil kayak gini. Hebat mr.
Those early 110 doors with wind-up glass and lift-up handles are the best of both worlds in my opinion, and quite hard to find unless you opt for reproductions. I fitted a single cab to my 109 at one time and found it very cramped even though the sloping rear bulkhead on a LWB offers more space for the seat. I often thought about a king-cab type conversion in the style of a 60s/70s garage recovery truck, but in the end I put the van body back on!
I literally just watched your videos on your previous landrover restoration. You did a nice job with that one, I can't wait to see the result of this one. You might even motivate me to get on with my SIIa restoration which has been sitting around for more than 10 years.
I've waited a long time for this series to start. Lets hope the 2nd part to it isn't far off from being uploaded, you've got me hooked. Cheers from Australia, I am restoring a '67 Series IIA, truck cab.
Awesome! Really looking forward to this! Your channel gave me inspiration and confidence to work on my own vehicle when it needed fixing. It's now running a treat, and I've gained plenty of knowledge through doing the work myself. Looking forward to seeing your project develop.
interesting project stumbled on you by accident big enough job just to get it where it is now looking forward to the progress
You beauty! How did you know I was about to start on one that I've just acquired? Talk about immaculate timing. Def getting a beer for this one.
LOL I have used a hydraulic floor jack to move the sideways on concrete before.Never seen it done on dirt with a bumper jack. Nice. Using a snach block to back it next to shop was a nice touch also. :-)
Jim Weber I was afraid the lean-to might come down, rather than the LR move! However that might have sent the viewing figures sky high.
Looks fun, enjoy yourself. Definitely change to the military doors and put a metal dash in or build one.
Good stuff Max, am looking forward to seeing you rebuild this beauty.
Ah, old series Land Rovers, nothing gets closer to an infinitely recyclable vehicle. I enjoyed the 2A restoration series looking forward to seeing Kermit rise to drive again.
