The main problem with the series is that it didn’t take itself serious. I know pokemon is a kids show but this series felt like the Dora the Explorer. I totally agree although I don’t think the series is truly terrible. It does point a bit too safe which can be pretty annoying and they should’ve put a lot of effort into this series focusing on Galar more introducing more Characters from Galar give proper development to Ash Goh Koharu and Ash’s Pokémon Team respect to old Characters returns introducing the DLC traducing Mustard and Peony make Hop and Marnie Ash’s Rivals have the Masters8th play out like the the Johto league since it wasn’t spared by someone who actually did a rewrite on this series

I think a big miss opportunity for Journey's is Galar Region itself. This region feels like a perfect Region for Ash to travel. Gym battles, new Pokemon like Drednaw or Corvaknight, Hop, Marnie and Bede as potential rivals/companions, etc. And if this was a return to form after Sun and Moon slice of life series, I think people can look fondly over it. It's also crazy that its successor 4, Horizons did a better job at being a travel the world series while representing Galar than the Gen 8 anime,

    • @gooey448

It is tempting for Ash to compete in the Galar League, but the premise as an actual anime would have been seen as desperate. By having Ash compete in the Galar League, it not only undermines Ash's skills as a trainer but it completely ignores the fact that Ash is a Champion. Not to mention that in Sun and Moon, no one told Ash "Go to Galar and compete in the gyms". Olivia told Ash to travel the world to expand his horizons, as stated:
"Getting to know what the world is like is a very important step. You'll have a broader perspective once you expand your horizons. The truth is, it will allow you to look at yourself and find ways you can improve. Right, Ash? As someone who came all the way to Alola to train, you already know that, don't you?" -Olivia, Dreams of the Sun and Moon

    • @kaffka9221
      @kaffka9221 4 місяці тому +10

@@hiddenfan-37 Ash may be champion of Alola but he isn't THE champion because he still had room to grow even after becoming one and there were plenty of trainers like him around outside of Alola. Galar itself felt like the perfect region for Ash after becoming champion, because it was implied lorewise that the Galar gym leaders are stronger than other regions' gym leaders on average, and in Journeys Bea and Raihan are at least on par with the E4 if not champion level. Zactoshi made an amazing rewrite on the Gen 8 anime that follows the same premise you mentioned without undermining Ash's skills or downplaying his champion status.

    • @hiddenfan-37
      @hiddenfan-37 4 місяці тому +1

@@kaffka9221 I did look at Zactoshi's Gen 8 rewrite which is great. But, again, had the actual Gen 8 anime involved Ash competing in the Galar League, then you have a desperate premise because it feels like everyone chose to ignore the fact that Ash won the Alola League, not to mention that Olivia was the one who advised Ash to travel the world (again, no "going to Galar to compete in their gyms" premise anywhere in Sun and Moon nor Journeys). Claiming that "Ash always do Gym Challenges, therefore it is tradition that he continues this quest" when he is already Champion of Alola does not sit well since the formula was getting stale at that point and it undermines Ash's skills. That's like if Cynthia competed in the Unova League despite already being crowned Sinnoh Champion. You can't really answer a question of, "So, it is wrong if Cynthia continued Gym Challenges, but if Ash does compete in Gym challenges, it is automatically fine?" without sounding like a hypocrite. I know Horizons does have Gym Challenges but keep in mind that it's only part of the Terastal Course.

Having one off eps here and there is fine, every series has that but for Ash’s final series at least like 90% of it should be focused on Ash, Goh, And their Pokémon. Even with the Master’s 8 tournament, Ash’s matches and Iris VS Cynthia are all fantastic battles, with Ash VS Leon being one of the best battles in the series. But pretty much every other fight felt either rushed or unimportant, and it’s still insane how they thought it was a good idea to only let Leon lose like 1 or 2 Pokémon to Alain and Diantha but Ash is somehow able to beat him. I'm still on the fence about that myself, on one hand it would've been nice to see his reserves used, but then again when I think back to the sinnoh league which is the last time he really employed them, they weren't handled all that well, only 5 of them (Heracross, Snorlax, Sceptile, Noctowl and Quilava) did anything notable, every one else who came back we either didn't see fight, or they were used as canon fodder...and in some cases that made them look weaker than they were during their runs with Ash, take Swellow for example, that bird was a freaking tank during AG, and what happens, it gets sent out and one shotted by a Latios. Sure it's a legendary but that didn't stop Sceptile from taking down Darkrai before hand, it shouldn't have gone down that quick.
when it comes to ash's reserves, it's not just about using them but how they are used, because i'm sure that when someone wants their fav reserve to be used, they expect it''s handling to be done in epic animated fashion, but that's asking too much.
Also not helping the reserves is that, in that in the second of the 9 episode epilogue they gave us, Misty was able to use her Politoad against Ash's Corphish in a battle over ownership of a Clauncher (which I didn't know why they just didn't let Misty have it, that late in Ash wasn't getting a random common pokemon), and won, but when looking at their past onscreen battling records Corphish should've torn Politoad apart, but that didn't happen effectively making people question if his reserves really were getting stronger at the lab, while some argued that it could've been due to Ash not having used Corphish in so long, it's similar to the swellow situation, because it makes Corphish and by proxy the reserves look bad if they are supposed to be getting stronger by training.

They should've removed Goh entirely. Focused more on Ash developing the pokemon he had. The world coronation series should've allowed multiple gimmicks to be used, but most of the champions use only one, other that Ash with 3 and Cynthia with 2 (Mega and Dynamax). This could've built Leon as even stronger because he only uses one gimmick and is almost better than Ash, and he wouldn't have been cheating. Also they screwed Serena. If they didn't have Goh, they could've done something better. They could've used the same style, with Ash travelling everywhere, but in a coherent story, meeting all his old friends in a way to get stronger, like with Paul, and Ash-Greninja. It would've brought back old characters, allowed for the series to focus on Ash and his team and their development, and he would've had a believable win in the World Coronation Series

I personally love Chloe's premise. She's someone who's seemingly not interested in Pokémon battles, and she doesn't know what she wants to become, and her journey of discovering herself could have been really interesting.
Also she's an introvert and more relatable to me, as she's not as outgoing and was often annoyed by Ash and Goh's antics.
To have someone who struggles to find their place in the world and is seemingly ostracized for not being into Pokémon battles, with her classmates thinking she's weird and just doesn't like Pokémon at all (which isn't the case), it's interesting.
But then she got Eevee and just became a trainer anyway. Massive wasted potential with Chloe.

@@BlitzGaming654 Normally no, but in Journeys definitly. Despite being an complete idiot even though he shouldn't be at that point, he constantly wins almost everything.
Even in stuff he knows nothing about, like in that cake decoration contest organized by Opal. He clearly had no idea what he was doing and just made a huge pile of decorations.
And yet, he won. He won even though he had no idea what he was doing while Chloe, who was there, clearly knew what she was doing. She should have won.
And this is just one example, there are many others. But I guess it wouldn't bother me as much if the writers didn't make him a complete idiot who doesn't know anything when he's supposed to be experienced with Pokémon.

as a series I'm fine (for now). But the thing is, this is THE LAST time we saw Ash as a protagonist of the Pokemon Anime, but they made the series more focused on Goh.
They could make the first half just like the usual Journeys episodes we got, Ash & Goh travelling together, they catch pokemons, gathering pokemon data that the professor ask, Project Mew (let Ash join but as minor character), wrap the first half of the series, then separated, Goh continue to chase his dream &the second half of Journeys anime will be Ash in Galar, introduced to World Tournament, Ash using his previous Pokemons, became the world champions, etc.
It will be more interesting as Ash's final good bye. To Older fans too, imagine people who stopped watching Pokemon after AG, then others tell them Ash became the world champion. They wanna experience the story but they have to watch the whole Journeys.
Journey have 136 episodes, they could actually divide it into 68:68, or perhaps 100:36

Journeys should not have used an episodic formula, filler episodes, disregard Ash's reserves, as well as over glorifying Kanto. If there's a world travelling premise, the other regions need focus as well. Horizons started fresh and is rectifying all the mistakes Journeys made...
About disregard Ash's reserves. Sure, it's great that Ash's Journeys team help beat Leon, and yes, the writers may have proved that "Ash does not need to use his reserves to win the PWC." But, pride comes before the fall, because when Ash finally got to use his reserves after beating Leon, everyone all over the world launched a full scale backlash and condemned the anime for this giant mistake pointing out that Ash should have used his reserves throughout Journeys. Nowadays, the tradition of Ash overusing his current team while ignoring his reserves is now the most hated premise ever. I think that if Ash were to return, he has to have new evolutions in his reserves (looking at you: Meganium, Typhlosion, Feraligatr, Crawdaunt, Floatzel, Garchomp, Samurott, Emboar, Serperior, Scrafty, Gigalith, Seismitoad, Annihilape) as well as be given new captures that the writers still owe Ash (e.g., Flygon, Magnezone, Houndoom, Beartic).
A world travelling premise is great but the fact the premise mostly takes in place in Kanto, along with Aim to be a Pokemon Master being a homage to the original series, proved that the writers overglorified Kanto. At least Horizons is resolving some problems by giving more focus in Galar compared to Journeys (so far we got Kabu, Galarian Moltres, Liko gets a Hatenna which is now a Hattrem) along with the Terastal Training taking place in Paldea.

The thing of Ash focusing on new Pokemon in every region is ok, as that have allowed Ash to have a very strong and diverse group of Pokemon ready to battle. That is not the problem.
The PROBLEM is when he doesn't use them for the main tournament or events, like in the Pokemon Leagues or, in this case, the Pokemon World Championship. Heck, that is one of the first things Brock told Ash during his first Pokemon League: to see the need to change Pokemon between battles to be absolute ready for everything. I like that he did that during the first 4 Leagues (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh), but after that, the rarely changes teams.
Like, come on, man! You are facing the WORLD CHAMPION. Use your very best from ALL your Journeys! That would have been a good ending: use the Pokemon from ALL your Journeys... during Pokemon Journeys!

    • @hiddenfan-37
      @hiddenfan-37 4 місяці тому +6

@@Saiyan0X It wasn't in Hoenn League. Ash overused his Hoenn team and failed to fully evolve his Grovyle and Corphish before the League, hence his loss against Tyson. That would be Battle Frontier where Ash does use some of his reserves like Snorlax, Tauros, and Donphan, as well as fully evolving his Grovyle into Sceptile. But the rest, I think there are some reasons why the writers went there:
Unova: Ash caught too many Pokemon which meant that most members were not fully evolved and he regressed from Top 4 in Sinnoh to Top 8 in Unova. Just goes to show why trying to prove that Pokemon don't need evolution to get strong, along with claiming that personality and cuteness is what kids want was not worth it.
Kalos: Because of the release of ORAS, the writers recycled a lot of story elements from the Hoenn League part of the story (albeit more subtle than BW) and that includes Ash overusing his Kalos team and losing the League, but in this case it was more of not enough practice with Ash-Greninja (Alain had more practice with Mega Charizard X as shown in the Mega Evolution Specials) along with no Mega Evolution for Ash. It took until Journeys for Ash to finally use Mega Evolution.
Alola: I'll let that slide since his Alola team help Ash become Champion.
PWC: If it's a world travelling premise, besides building a new team, the writers should have let Ash use his reserves throughout Journeys. Instead, the true reward for that stunt was a full scale backlash from fans, which probably went something like this:
Writers: "We proved that Ash did not need reserves for PWC, why are you so mad at us?"
Fans: You should have let Ash used the reserves and fully evolved all the ones you messed up on!

Ash typically disregards his reserves because he's supposed to be repping the main series games (just like how Goh reps Pokémon Go). In Johto, Ash was allowed to use his Kanto Pokémon because you, as the player, could also transfer your Gen 1 mons from R/B/Y to Gen 2 G/S/C.
He wasn't allowed to take his previous mons to Hoenn because transfer between Gen 2 and Gen 3 wasn't allowed. He could use all of them again in Sinnoh because Gen 3 to Gen 4 transfer was allowed again. Ash becomes a beginner level trainer again in Unova because Gen 5 was meant to be a soft-reboot of the whole franchise.

In previous seasons Jessie, James, and Meowth were doing things that caused a fanbase for them to be created, then those writers totally messed those 3 characters up in Journeys by having them only do annoying bad stuff instead of having them continue to behave on screen as the likable and sympathetic antagonists who would do silly bad stuff and also good stuff and cared about the Pokemon that they had with them, which they had been seen as in most of the previous seasons of the Pokemon anime. It sucks that that trio were done dirty in Journeys too.

Journeys had great episodes past season 1 but there was a huge focus issue with the show, mostly to do with important stuff and filler with the main issue being that they'd focus on filler or rush concepts that were actually interesting into only one episode. They also didn't really develop Ash's team at all with Ash mainly focusing on only Lucario and Sirfetch'd and basically sidelining Gengar, Dragonite and Dracovish. Here are some of my main criticisms of JN, some people will be incredibly salty with my criticisms.
Ash's Pokémon are barely there, one thing all the other series did right, even ones that were not great like AG, BW, and SM had the Pokémon interact with each other, one of my favorite episodes, Tears for Fears is nothing but Pokémon interacting with each other. It seems the only Pokémon Ash has are Lucario and Pikachu, while Goh only has the Galar starters.
How Goh catches Pokémon. This one has been talked to death. The way that Goh catches Pokémon goes against the Anime rules of catching them. To catch a Pokémon, you either a, battle it, or b, it agrees to come with you. Yeeting Pokeball's at a Pokémon is not how you are supposed to catch a Pokémon. Another minor gripe is how Goh's Pokémon are registered to the Pokedex , which is not how a pokedex works in the anime.
How Ash's character is handled, I have a lot of issues with how Ash was handled in SM and JN, from his stupidity to pitching up his voice. Most of the problems with Ash in JN started in SM, where they make him the butt monkey of both the SM and JN groups, meaning he is the butt of every demeaning joke and his stupidity is played for cheap laughs. The anime really needs to stop playing Ash's stupidity for laughs in general, it's not funny and it a poor attempt at humor. Who ever thought it was a good idea to pitch up Ash's voice in SM and JN should be fired. In essence, they took everything bad about Ash in SM and cranked it up to eleven.
Pacing problems, JN has a lot of pacing problems. Their is a lot of filler episodes, like a lot, it just feels like it is just a slog to get through. Another thing is how JN tries to cram everything into 1 to two episodes when it would be better to have a multi episode arc. A good example of this is for the BDSP episodes, that should have been more than two episodes.
Chloe, she is pretty much sidelined in the series, she pretty much cannot decide whether she wants to travel with Ash and Goh or not. She had a lot of potential as a character, but it has been squandered, with JN having 30-40 episodes left, I do not see anything changing yet.
Nostalgia bating, a lot of characters were promised to return in the series. For the most part, they have delivered on that end. However, it seems that they are only having characters return to keep fans who do not like the creative direction watching the show. It is like they know that people do not like the show and the characters, so it feels like they are dangling character returns like a carrot. Gary, Iris, Dawn, and Ash's old Pokémon have returned in the series, the only one who got a meaningful return in my opinion is Dawn, the rest, the studio shoved the characters in an episode and called it as day. They are now teasing much more returns, Greninja, Bonnie, Clement, and Paul. Hopefully these are good returns and the studio is not just dangling a carrot to keep people watching.

No new Pokemon, evolutions or accomplishments compared to the other companions. Iris became a Champion, May and Serena became idols; May couldn't even speak because her VA retired. PokeMas Dawn was a more meaningful return. It would have been forgiveable if the excuse was that she was trapped in Hisui in all that time and got to evolve her Quillava.

And Ash should've also used all his other past pokemon in the WCS & evolving them, & got back his Primeape, Greninja
Also he should've gotten the chance to battle & beat more Elite 4 members, beat his past league rivals he lost against, & beat the other pokemon league champion winners. And also battle & beat Regional Champs Lance & Diantha
Not have Goh hogging half the attention, Not making it so easy for Goh to catch a legendary, he wasted Grookey, Project Mew should've been more his main goal from the start.
Chloe should've been better developed & had a real goal & caught more pokemon like the Galarian Ponyta, Hatterene
Team Rocket was terrible: They should've been how they were in Black & White & at the end, finally leaving Team Rocket

Journeys should've been regular series, because Ash winning Alola league, definitely doesn't mean he's champion level. Especially since this is Alola league which has James in Top 8 and final battle is 3 vs 3. Journeys should've been Ash beating gyms but gyms are much stronger than previous gym and him losing in Galar league to Peony in Top 4. Making him officially Elite Four level trainer. Gen 9 was perfect for Ash, that he wants to train to become champion as he becomes one by beating Nemona and Geeta. This is perfect Ash's progression. Then, Gen 10 would be PWC in which Ash wins entire thing and gets replaced by new kids.

Giving Ash all three Galar starters would have been a horrible idea, since this was the reason why Ash's Johto and Unova teams failed (I know Ash had all three starters in Kanto as well, but people should have realized it only worked once). Plus, since Ash is Champion, giving him new starters is pretty much a permanent downgrade in his skills and each Galar starter given to Ash would have ran the risk of being a lazy clone. (I am also aware that Leon had all three Galar starters but Leon likely obtained them prior to becoming Galar Champion).
Cinderace: We already had Charizard and Infernape and I think the writers want another male protagonist besides Ash to have a Current Gen Fire Starter as an ace, since May has Blaziken and Serena has Delphox.
Inteleon: It does have GMax, but giving Ash a GMax Inteleon would have been seen as a lazy repeat of Ash's Greninja (Water starter with super form).
Rillaboom: Cool but it does run the risk of being a Sceptile clone, plus we've seen Ash obtain a lot of Grass starters and the writers needed someone else to have a Grass starter ace. Grookey is the main reason why Liko's Sprigatito had to evolve.

Goh as a character in of itself to tie in Pokémon Go is not bad by all means. However, the way they did it for Ash last journey was a disservice to fans. Ash last journey really should just been him alone for once and going around doing different things solo and discovering things in his own that lead to him becoming a top champion. This was the moment but they blew it up because of the Pokémon Go mechanic when we all know at some point the game could eventually shut down. This is something a last journey in terms of story should have ended on because now people will look back and be like “oh journeys ash last series and it’s majors ties to Pokémon go that we can’t longer play” when decades come later. This is my issue with this.

Something that genuinely annoyed me about journeys was the masters 8 tournament. Due to the series wanting to have Ash and Goh travel throughout all the regions it leaves so little time for Galar and when we actually do get to Galar it feels like any other romp specifically because of the masters 8 tournament. Galar in the games treated the pokemon league like this massive deal. Gym leaders were treated like sports celebrities, challengers were treated like rising stars, and of course we had the trainer cards. But with the tournament being worldwide and being broadcasted everywhere it takes away what made Galar stand out from the other regions resulting in it feeling like more of The same.

    Hi!
As a certified journeys defender allow me to say some counter points to yours.
    1. ASH DID NOT CHEAT, Leon said you can use all three then management said you can use all three and once Ash agreed the rules were changed so both sides could use all three thus allowing Leon to use a second G-max when Eternatus gave that a reset.
    2. Even if he used all three he actually need those as all of Leon's Pokemon are as strong as a champions ace, so Ash using all three at the end of the day gives him the power to Level the playing field plus Charizard vs Pikachu had no gimmicks just two Pokemon going at it.
    3. Alain did very well for being the weakest in the masters 8, he used 1 super effective move from his ace to take out Rillaboom who went on to tank multiple hits from future opponents Alain took it out with one super effective move from chestnaught and one from his Charizard which is the best performance against it we saw.
    4. It didn't disrespect Paul he helped Ash train for the WCS and he also would have got swept by Leon if he was there.
    5. The episodic nature has one benifit and that you can just watch the episodes you like you don't have to watch the ones you don't want too, which is how I will watch it in the future.
    6. Goh can do that because he is go as in Pokemon go, so he can catch Pokemon like you can in Pokemon go, plus the hunter weakened Suicune for him then it chose to stay.
    7. Chloe was cool as a what am I going to do character, it is really just the ending that is disappointing but aside from that she was good, especially in the last 2 episode in JN where she appreciates her Eevee for helping her grow.
    8. Like I said before you can skip filler I any series but in a episodic anime you can skip it even more if you don't want to watch it, personally the filler doesn't bother me as if it were to just appear randomly on TV you can just sit down and watch it and have 20 minutes of fun.
    9. The best part of journeys that helped me appreciate it is when you see a episode of JN on tv and not batch watching on Netflix, you can just watch it and enjoy it, as it was intended, but if you are watching on Netflix you can just skip all the bad and go straight to the good nothing is stopping you.
    10. The fact that Ash beat all these champions was cool, in fact the only bad battle was Leon vs Diantha because we didn't get to see it all, thanks to some kid getting lost.
    11. While the best part may have been the returning characters, there is more to like then just, but it does provide nice world building by having show up like with Iris, but also by having them show up it proves Pokemon is interconnected, some people think dp Ash and every Ash after is not the same Ash but that is not the case.
    12. Back to Paul, they say let's battle again sometime to most of not all of the people Ash has battled against so that does not mean they are going to battle again.
    13. Pokemon does remember who Paul is that's why they had him come back to train his Pokemon alongside his old Pokemon, because they know only Paul can do that.
    14. Ash forgets Pokemon typings all the time even in the previous series Alola he forgets poison moves don't work on steel types, it is just apart of his character.
    15. Again the strength of episodic is you can watch the episodes you like and I think that is how you should watch JN on the future, the Ash gets a Pokemon Episodes, the Ash fights in the WCS episodes, a episode where a Pokemon evolves, and the masters Tournament, plus MPM because Ash uses old Pokemon there and I know lots of people like that.
    16. Ash is a champion now. He can train his newbie Pokemon up to champion level I'm sure if Cynthia started with a new team she could do the same and no one would complain but because it's Ash everyone complains.
    17. It is in Ash's character to raise up a new team each gen it should not be a surprise. Plus once he beat Cynthia and got permission to use all of his tools he showed why he took the time to earn them and that pays off, as he now is ready to face Leon both at full power, and in the end the best one vs one happened and that had nothing to rely on, Ash's Pikachu is just better then Leon's Charizard.
    18. He cheated because you can't do that. YES HE CAN THE RULES WHERE CHANGED TO SO IT WAS LEGAL TO DO THAT, THATS THE WHOLE POINT.
    19. He clearly didn't need to use his old Pokemon and infact if he did just swap out his JN team for his old Pokemon at the masters Tournament he would have lost round 1 only the JN team have the power to stand up to champions.
    20. Lastly the journeys team trained constantly for the battle vs Leon and so they earned the win.
I hope you have a good day and to anyone who read all this thank you.

I get where ur coming from. But for me I prefer the linear path of pokemon instead of episodic formatting. Even if u like all the characters, choices and such. I still think how they used to do it was a much more enjoyable and consistent story. But some will prefer the episodic format and others won’t. Journeys is very split because of this because it’s definitely an acquired taste.

And to the point that each of his pokemon are equal to a champions ace, DO YOU KNOW WHO ELSE HAS MULTIPLE POKEMON THAT ARE ON THAT LEVEL. RIGHT ASH. ASH HAS CHARIZARD, INFERNAPE, GRENINJA,PICKACHU,SCEPTILE, AND MULTIPLE ALOLAN POKEMON. BUT INSTEAD HE HAD TO USE MULTIPLE INEXPERIENCED GALAR POKEMON. THEY COULD HAVE MAD A CONVINCING ASH WIN WITH THE SAME CONDITIONS AS LEON BUT THEY DIDNT. THATS WHAT I HATE.

I feel like the main reason for all of this is that pokemon journeys was directed towards kids. I was still pretty young when it first came out, so the “bad humour” was still very funny. I think they could’ve put more screen time of the old characters and regions in. Maybe new watchers woulda been compelled to watch the other series. It’s been more humor and not a lot of that “deep” conversation and battles, it’s like they think the kids watching are dumb and wouldn’t understand it. A new spin off series with goh woulda been nice instead of him catching everything so easily. I get that he wasn’t the main character, so the didn’t spend too much time developing him and his bond with pokemon, but it still made it like he outshone ash.

Restarting Ash's journey for his final series was a mistake. We could have seen bigger rematches with his toughest opponents, witness the learning and rise of Goh as Ash's student, and seen Ash use his old teams and recruit his best hitters from previous series for the Championship. Instead, we got subpar callbacks, a Goh who is as disconnected as Pokemon GO, and another confusing Ash timeline that ends with him defeating trainers with far more experience and knowledge in battle based on what we saw in the show.

Lots of people already made their suggestions in here but I think I'll add mine as well:
    - Nearly everyone already talked about Galar getting incredibly ignored on this series which I think was a detriment. I definitely wouldn't have minded going to other regions at times but the focus should've been on Galar. I think the way to obviously mesh showing off the cities and gym leaders and the PWC is obviously having all of them competing and having Ash going through them as he scales through the ratings letting us see them appear in full force since they are fighting for a serious tournament instead of handing out badges and it still allows Ash to focus on battles with gyms from other regions from time to time.
    - In regards to Ash not using his reserves, I just don't get it at all. He basically got to where he's at because of them and they could've used Journeys to finish some storylines or evolves Pokemon (imagine Ash having a Quilava, having the PLA special having him evolve it into a H-Typhlosion or Scraggy fully mastering Focus Blast and evolving). Hell, you could've even had storylines between the old and new Pokemon basically explaining that Ash's Galar team is ridiculously strong because they are getting power-trained by all of Ash's combined older Pokemon. Lots of potential to also use a combination of new and old Pokemon to show off on those PWC matches to show off new moves and let the newbies get more experience and absorb tactics. I can even imagine the final version of his team being given a fair chance at going after Leon after several of Ash's strongest reserves helped clear people like Steven and Cynthia.
    - Goh's place not just on this arc but the series in itself is so weird because while I understand "Gotta catch 'em all" is the motto for the games it feels very different in the anime where Pokemon clearly have backstories and personalities. Uprooting them as frivolously as Goh seemingly does just because he wants them feels really off compared to basically every other main crew character we've had until now and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth plus it felt the Project Mew arc stole far too much time from the main thing we wanted to see in the end which was the PWC which didn't help matters and just led to people skipping those episodes altogether.
    - Chloe was mishandled like crazy, I don't even understand why she went through this whole adventure of choosing a path for herself and then still deciding to help her dad despite that not being her calling. Like, why did we even waste time on all of this? Aside from shilling Eevee, of course.
Overall I get the vibe of Journeys and appreciate what it was trying to do but I don't like how poorly handled it ended up being. Definitely will be rewatching bits and pieces but not much more.
PS: wish instead of catching Sirfetch'd Ash would've gotten a Blipbug since he never had a Psychic-type and it would've been fun to see him train an actually weak Pokemon with no confidence into a powerful Orbeetle.

Personally galar had more potential to show then the Pokemon company did. Like not giving a fucking starter to ash and many other things like disrespecting the characters. And its also kinda similar to horizon quite paced. And how weak Ash would have been without all those mega evo, dynamax and z moves. I mean the battle was great and the animation as well but the thing is that ash is quite weak without those gimmick and then the company decides to give ash a sendoff which also wasnt proper. Ash still has like a lot room to grow. He wouldn't have beaten leon without the use of all those gimmicks.

NGL it should've been a masters 10 or something and then it includes Mr hackerman27 (tobias). More importantly, it should be like a round robin for the first stage where everyone faces everyone once and then the top 4 people (who have the most wins) would go into a tourney. That way there would be more battles for Ash to use his old pokemon and get revenge on trainers like Mr hackerman and alan. Also full 6v6 battles. I know this would take up a bunch of episodes but like this is the most important part of the series and no one gives a frik about goh's catching thing (that he never finished so like what was the point) nor whatever chloe was doing.

I just don’t get why Ash just didn’t bring back his past Pokemon? I mean, I get he already had a team of 6, but I would expect him to bring out his Aces in an International Tournament with every Champion (and Alain) with the exception of Geeta.
I mean, you could have Ash sub out one of his Journeys lineup of Pokemon for Lycanroc or Sceptile, just to make it a little more tricky for the opponent to deal with, because they likely would have already been watching and observing his past matches in Galar and be slightly thrown off by a rotating lineup.
After that, you could put in the subbed out Pokemon back to the lineup and sub out another Pokemon for another ace, and rinse and repeat. Not only would it not be wasting his current lineup, but it would also fit the theme of Journeys, which was revisiting Ash’s past regions

What really started to make me think the show had problems was when go caught Suicune in a pokeball that easily. I was in shock and disbelief and it somehow triggered me.
And then the later half, i was bored with the project Mew arc since it didn't catch my attention unless it had Gary there.
And don't even get me started with the Masters 8 arc. In my opinion, it was handled poorly with the exceptions of a few battles. Any of Ash's battles felt like plot armor or the writers had to make the opponent hold back to give Ash even a chance at winning

The one thing I didn’t like about Pokemon Journeys is that it felt more like an adaptation of Pokemon Go than Sword & Shield and there was a lot of focus on old Pokemon as not all of the Gen 8 Pokemon appeared. Plus no movies for it. The one with Zarude should’ve taken place within the main series. I saw no point in movie reboots. Whats more is the GS Ball plot was never resolved and Team Rocket is still active. I always imagined how the Pokemon anime would end (or at least Ash’s story) and was always hoped it would be the take down of the whole Team Rocket organization and Ash’s father would be involved too.

5:39 You're a bit mistaken on this point. Goh's goal was ALWAYS to catch Mew. It was to the point where he didn't want to catch ANY other Pokemon, until Ash convinced him in like Episode 3(?) that it would be impossible to catch Mew without any Pokemon of his own. From that point, Goh decided that catching every Pokemon was the best path to finding Mew, who contains the DNA of every Pokemon.

I Think with Pokemon journey, the pokemon company DOESN'T KNOW how to make a series that doesn't follow a league of some kind.
So they where most-likely struggling the whole time and wondering where to take the series if it doesn't follow the pokemon league formula.
Most likely they got so used to the pokemon league formula of the series, that they don't know how to write anything else.
I believe they mastered the pokemon league formula of the show in pokemon xyz and then had to write a similar but not the same formula for Sun and moon.
Most likely when it was announced that instead of going back to the pokemon league formula for galar, it would be journeys instead.
The writer panicked because they couldn't think of anything original anymore so they had the journey focus on fanservice not realizing that it has been so long that they ended up making mistakes during the fanservice.
    Long story short.
The Pokemon show creators are unable to make anything that isn't following some kind of League formula so that is why journey sucks.
It was the pokemon show creators ONLY attempt to do a series WITHOUT a league formula to follow.
Pokemon has been going on for SO LONG...
that the show creator can't think of anything that doesn't follow the pokemon league formula in some way.
Pokemon journey is basically designed like a spin-off of the pokemon anime in ever way except officially.

The Ash-Goh dynamic could have worked if they helped each other using their respective knowledge of the games they're repping. Ash, who is repping the main series games, should have been more battle focused and helped Goh with that, while Goh (who is repping Pokémon Go) could have coached Ash on how to catch Pokémon quickly and efficiently instead of wearing them down with a battle (Idk what Pokémon Go's gimmick is, I never played it).
I can imagine why Ash losing the knowledge of basic type matchups and Goh having to coach him through it didn't sit well with fans. Especially when those type matchups have been a part of the main series, the games Ash is supposed to represent, since the very beginning.
If I were re-writing it, the series would have been split into two halves. The first half would have been called Pokémon Journeys, in which Ash takes the Galarian gym challenge, travels all over Galar and battles in the League like normal. Sure, it's somewhat formulaic, but this arc would have acted as a "Back to Basics" type thing, especially after the palate cleanser that was Sun & Moon. In this arc, Ash would have used exclusively new Pokémon like he does every time he arrives in a new region. Ash would then end up winning the League, which would have resulted in him getting noticed by Leon, the #1 trainer in the world, and him proving to the IRL audience that he can in fact win a regular League, and not just unconventional island championships like the Orange Archipelago and Alola League.
The second half would be Pokémon Ultimate Journeys, which would start with Ash getting invited to the World Coronation Series by Leon (or Cynthia if you want a familiar face). He'd then spend the series re-treading through all the previous regions, re-visiting significant places, re-battling old rivals, and re-meeting old friends (and all his released Pokémon too). If you guessed it, yes the series would have been one giant pile of fanservice. At the end of which, Ash enters the Masters 8, fights through all the Champions, and finally becomes the #1 trainer in the world. IMO it'd feel way more earned this way.
And if you're asking "Didn't Ash already beat Leon if he won the Galar League?" Remember that winning the League in the anime is way different than winning the League in the games. In the games, winning the League means fighting through the Elite 4 and the Champion. In the anime however, it means beating all the other participants who qualified for the League. So, no Ash wouldn't have beaten Leon if he won the Galar League.

@spinotikus1518 Yes. You only get "the opportunity" to fight the E4 and the champion. Meaning you can do it if you want to, but it isn't a requirement.
We haven't seen any other League winner fight their champions and yet they still got the trophy for winning the League.
Hell, Tobias had (at the very least) 2 legendary Pokèmon on his team. But Cynthia is still the Sinnoh Champion. Meaning either Cynthia defeated him and his legendaries, or he elected not to fight her.

Despite its flaws, I honestly still enjoyed journeys. Sure I wish it would’ve been better but I still had fun while watching it, and ash becoming world champion has made me the most happiest I have ever felt thru the whole anime.
But yeah I won’t deny that this series in the anime isn’t perfect and there are things that I wish were done better like having all of ash’s travel companions and rivals in the actual stadium to watch him battle Leon. For Goh, I do understand that his whole gimmick is Pokemon go, but it still feels unfair that he could catch so many pokemon way too easily while ash always struggled to battle them before catching them. As for Chloe… man out of all the pokegirls, her conclusion was dumb. She wasn’t interested to become a pokemon researcher just like her dad during the start of the series and that’s exactly what she decides to do, like what??… and the fact that her eevee didn’t even evolved was disappointing. And the two eleven minute fillers were so dumb and unnecessary. Heck, I’m even disappointed that Paul (the rival who I freaking hate and refuse to forgive him for abusing my fire baby chimchar) wasn’t in the championship, it’s like the writers forgot what Cynthia said back in the sinnoh series of hoping to see ash and Paul battle again in the championships. And of course, it makes me sad that Jessie James and meowth refused to quit team rocket and continue to get pikachu. It’s sad because honestly those three really deserve to have a happy ending, quit team rocket and live a humble life by doing something that they can actually be good at, like why not sell malasadas just like they did in sun and moon?? It would’ve been cute that they could have an actual good business that can gain a lot of attention and that way they can no longer struggle with getting money. Like butch and Cassidy did do that and it makes me happy for them, so it’s unfair that Jessie James and meowth are still working for team rocket 😢
But yea, despite all those flaws, I still enjoyed journeys. It’s not as good as the other series in the anime but it’s still a series that always puts me in a good happy mood just like sun and moon 😊

Since you brought up Paul, it brings to mind one of my biggest issue with Journeys (Goh the little shit that he is aside) which was the fact that Ash has no real rivals for what's supposed to be his final series. Yeah Leon exists but he's really more the final boss and doesn't have much a strong history/relationship with Ash either, and the old rivals that did reappear were basically an afterthought in the grand scheme of things (Paul/Alain).
One of Pokemon's defining story beats is the competition between the MC and their Rival, so it would have been really great if we got that again for Ash, and personally I would have loved it if say it was Gary. Say the latter decided to come out of retirement temporarily cause he thought it'd be fun to compete in the tournament and against Ash for old time's sake. It would have been a great book end if Ash's last main rival was his first.

I’m not going to lie…Pokémon Journeys had so much potential yet they squandered it! I had no problem with go yet I found him annoying at times. Chloe was whatever…Ash’s team was good but lacked something I can’t put my finger on it. Also I did like that most of the older characters returned yet most were underutilized. Aim to be a Master was nothing but nostalgia pandering while it’s great we got the original trio however I wish they could have done more before Ash left. I wish we had a better ending where all of Ash’s companions met. I hated how May didn’t reunite with Ash, I hated how Serena’s reunion with Ash was short! I also didn’t like the disrespect towards Alain and Diantha. Seriously why the XY hate?! Not to mention Hoen was done dirty. Pokémon journey’s had interesting ideas and concepts yet sadly was a disappointment in the end. I did enjoy it for the most part but it had a lot to be desired. And for Ash’s final journey it’s pretty disappointing. But I am liking Horizons a lot more. Ash or no Ash, Pokémon is still Pokémon.

Although it felt like Ash cheated, which I do agree with, being able to use as many gimmicks as each trainer can is the way to really have a battle of true strength. If Ash was only able to use one, he wouldn’t be using all of his power, since two other gimmicks would be eliminated, it’s not Ash’s fault that Leon only has access to Dynamax

Pokémon Journeys and Big World Big Adventures (an era of Thomas the Tank Engine) are both about the main characters traveling the world. And both are very poor in my opinion. Journeys shafted the Galar stuff in favor of Filler and Kanto. While BWBA did the opposite, removing two of the original characters from the main cast (Edward and Henry) and replacing them with two new characters.
Thing is I actually tolerate BWBA, I can’t defend Journeys. Heck, the Galar Starters don’t show up together in base form outside of “The world of Pokémon” segments.
At least Charizard got put in its place in the end. I hate Charizard so much

Journeys ruined the best part of Pokemon... if it isn't the massive hate of Black and White or Sun and Moons different animation style, Journeys with it's "fanservice" finale that ruined it.
If I could go back in time, I'd go back in time and have the writers and producers change alot of things with journeys.
    0) only 1 thing I would keep, is Ash's Journey still ending.
    Changes/Fixes I'd make
    1) Team Rocket is as threatening as ever, and has all their previous mons, as well as new ones. Meowth actually finally learns some new attacks, making him actually a far stronger Meowth than before. (I get rid of the Rocket Gacha Machine since that was honestly a shitty idea) I'd also make Giovannni have a few apperances, and maybe even have him take Ash on in a full on battle.
    2) Get rid of Goh and Chloe... those 2 characters, ruined the show in their own way.... some more than others.
    3) Even if I kept Ash's entire team, I'd have ALL of Ash's Pokemon plus the newcomers and even ones he never caught make appearances and appear on his team throughout the series. For example, an episode might feature Ash with his Charizard, and the next his Infernape. I wouldn't leave his entire team at Oaks Lab until after the champions tournament. I'd use them and have them be there to help grow his "journeys" team to becoming the strongest team yet.
    4) I wouldn't make Leon Ash's final opponent. I'd still have the tourney go similar, but I'd make it more than just Top 8. I'd make it a full on League where the Top 512 trainers duke it out to see who is the Champion. I'd have Ash have a chance to battle some of his rivals that he has lost to and won against.
Paul, Trip, Cameron, Harrison, Heck Gary Oak gets one last clash. Ash would use all of his Pokemon and every single match would be 3v3 until the Top 16, then with Ash there, he'd battle his 4 opponents (as he wins them) in 6v6 matches.
Ash would fight not Steven Stone, but Alain in a rematch, Ash would fight Cynthia in the Semi-finals, and Ash would also fight maybe Lance or Iris in the Top 8. Ash's finals would be against Leon... But after Ash beats Leon, that would be when Tobias would be reintroduced and be used in a 4 part episode where Ash has to defeat the previous Grand Master. Ash lost to him badly in their first battle, so now Ash has to defeat Tobias. Ash's full team chosen to take on Tobias, and all of his other pokemon. Though, have mentions of this trainer appear throughout the series, and although Ash knows about the Darkrai and Latios, have some trainers mention, this guy used "insert a legendary pokemon" and completely wiped the floor with me. This would allow Ash to plan his team out to beat Tobias... and he'd win in a close match.
    5) Legends Arceus Arc would be longer and Ash would have his Oshawot, Rowlet, and Quilava evolve into the hisuian forms to help promote Legends Arceus.
    6) (optional) If Ash is to catch a legendary, I'd pick a legendary or two that I feel would fit Ash perfectly, and even if Ash didn't use them in his major battles, if Ash had them on his team and trained with them, that would be fine.

Goh's starter pokemon thing is messy. At first the writers decided they didn't want Goh to have a starter. But then they changed they're mind and gave him Scorbunny. But then they changed they're mind and tried to remove Scorbunny by evolving Scorbunny into the less included Raboot. But THEN they switched it again by kinda giving him a pokemon again by giving him Sobble. It's a MESS!

Ash definitely wasn't the most inconsistent characters between all the champions, Leon beat basically everyone because the plot told us he's the champion and the number one but never really did anything to prove or show it the whole series, all of Cynthia's battles were handled very well and really showed how smart and difficult of an opponent she is to defeat. Even Iris who wasn't well liked in BW got a great redemption by becoming champion and proving she's on equal footing with Ash.

While I personally don’t think it’s the worst series, and was hype during many of the highs, I have many problems with it including:
    1. Kinda disrespecting past characters and pokemon (I.e. Alain and greninja)
    2. The choice to not rotate Pokemon especially after they hinted it was gonna happen
    3. Weak side character stories that led nowhere (…Chloe)
    4. Go. I didn’t hate him, but I found his episodes to be way less interesting and often found myself skipping over them. Overall, he’s probably one of my least fav companions.
    5. Some of the choices during the world tournament didn’t make much sense to me from a narrative perspective. For example, the matchups didn’t really seem right. Think it would’ve been better for Iris to battle a “dragon master” like Lance supposedly is or Ash getting his get back with Alain. Even Cynthia’s choice to not use mega garchomp seemed weird and made it so it felt like ash didn’t beat her at her “best”.
    5. The tournament overall also felt lackluster because it skipped over fights. Alain had half an ep to get stomped and Lance vs Diantha literally occurred in the background of an episode.

I kind of agree, Man although I don’t think the series is terrible. It was a bit of a disappointment
the concept is amazing, but the execution was a bit swampy Goh is Mid he’s not terrible but he could’ve been better at least he’s better than
Koharu she was BORING as HELL and she barely feels like a Main Character plus we didn’t get that much Galar representation despite being a Gen 8 series and no, DLC are you kidding me let’s have some gray moments, but it would’ve been more great if it was executed better
It wasn’t miss opportunity for Ash use his old Pokémon again could’ve helped him out during the battles and even be a mentor tours his new Team Gible could have fully evolved into Garchomp Snivy could have fully evolved into Serperior Scraggy could have evolved into Scrafty to pair with Iris’s Haxorus Totodile could have fully evolved into Feraligatr and to see Ash’s old Pokémon like this Guys Oshawott could have fully evolved into Hisuian Samurott to promote legends Arceus so that Dawn’s Quilava evolves into Hisuian Typhlosion and Goh catches a Hisuian Decidueye at lease we got the Sword and Shield Series made by Zactoshi but there is a better version of this series made by two people Electro Pikachu and Zanolith that did the rewrite on journeys not completed, but they’re amazing you recommend you go check these out if you want a better version of journeys that all we need to say
