    Cloudless every day you
    fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.

+Sir Benjamin Prevosa that depends on which version you're quoting. At 5:45, you can see Dave's lips forming the V sound first, trying to say "inviting and inciting". So really, both can be correct; maybe Richard screwed up instead

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
      Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light
      Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
      No one speaks
      And no one tries
No one flies around the sun
Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.

MUCH Agreed my friend :) - Ever Since the FIRST time I sat there and watched the Pompeii Live Movie for the 1st time, Stoned off of my ASS a Youngin', it just SOO Deeply Struck me as a Masterful piece of Musical writing Man... And it STILL gives me chills, To THIS Day Dude :) AMAZING and Timeless Music, for Sure!! And yea, I DID hear about that whole David Gilmour returning there for an Anniversary Live show or something like that - That'd be absolutely INCREDIBLE to watch!! i wonder if it's JUST him as a Solo Artist, or with any other Floyd Members, or what... 'Cus I SEEERIOUSLY DOUBT that Gilmour and Waters would be playing together there - Cus they pretty much just hate Eachothers guts man... Pretty much cus Roger Waters is just Kind of a Dick - At least in MY Opinion Anyhoo.. Lol

Mitchell Moore Indeed. I feel just the same way towards echoes,a timeless masterpiece.
and as for Gilmour and waters, they severed the long-termed hostility between them, but yes, waters still considers himself officially departed from Pink Floyd ever since 83. but they are on good terms with each other today. same thing with waters and nick & rich :)

When I would road trip with my daughter, we had a listening agreement. I would let her play whatever she wanted and then I would get to play one of my cds. OMG. I got blasted with Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Avril Levigne, Asking Alexandria, and the Black Veil Brides. I would play what I consider essentials and my sole purpose was to expose her to the great music that came before her. Lots of Pink Floyd, Bowie, Beatles, Zappa, UFO, Van Halen. One trip I put on Echoes. About halfway through she said " this is really good. I like this. " I think I may have teared up. She wanted more Pink FLoyd. So I broke out Dark Side, Wish you were here, The Wall, and more. SHe was hooked. SHe has gone away to college now. I spoke to her on the phone a while ago and I was so damn proud of her when I heard her listening to Animals on the phone. She is well rounded musically and I couldn't be happier.

Robert leRoy Parker that’s so cool! I’m so glad teens are getting into such a great band. I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since birth and I find it fascinating that a teen who listens to such mainstream artists enjoys Pink Floyd. This comment is worth the writing because now I can think of all the teens listening to Pink Floyd instead of doing drugs. Thank you.

Ehoes is not a song, it is not a psychedelic expression like Number 9 or Floyd's own Atom a Heart Mother whether the length of the piece becomes almost irrelevant. Echoes is a beautiful piece, modern-day variations on a theme, and is a true masterpiece. The live at Pompeii version may not be as polished as the studio version (naturally) but Nick Mason's amazing talent as a drummer really shines though here like nowhere else. And that goes for the entire album, which is a real gem.

@@DanHomeAtLast I agree. And later, it went too far when the technology took over at the recording end. Some would say that happened at some point in the eighties, but it still required a lot of work and mostly musical talent. Back then, it just seemed drastically different to the recent '70s, scare reports of "death of the guitar", "drummers out of work", etc. Post 1998 was the start of the rot in my opinion, coinciding(?) with the birth of Autotune. Just before that, there were many acts going back to the tech from this era.

When the camera starts zooming out and then the "drop" happens. Chills.
Also, Wright is criminally underrated and always has been. Pink Floyd wouldn't be the same Pink Floyd without him. So subtle yet so colorful and expressive. He was an equal part of the band until Waters' ego inflated like a baloon.
I used to play the last part on my guitar, starting off badly then mastering the whole part. Rick's piano work is phenomenal. No adjectives can fully describe the sound.

I was a PF fan from the late 70s on, and it wasn't until I saw my brother's VHS tape in 1990, that I discovered it. Of course those that do, cherish it. How many echo products have been created to replicate the Echorec based on this performance of Echoes alone?

The riff at 4:42 is one of my favorite Pink Floyd riffs. I prefer the studio version and played over and over instead of just twice haha, it's too good! You could totally play the Learning to fly video where the kid finally jumps off the cliff but turns into a bird over it.

For tastes there are colours, not everyone will like the same music as you, it's part of the "ego" making fun of others people's music taste, just be grateful that you found a band who makes your life better with such pieces of art

Not everybody understand the difference between real artistic music and popular mainstream music. Pink floyd is the greatest artistic band of all time. Maybe queen and the beatles were more influential, but Brian may has himself stated that pink floyd was a major influence in their sound, and mccartney was also influenced by Syd.

I went to Pompeii a few years ago and I got to stand in the middle of the amphitheatre completely alone in silence. After years and years of watching Pink Floyd perform in that exact spot it was a very powerful experience, especially after walking through the ruins of the city. I highly recommend Pompeii if you go to Italy. It was the best part of my trip. There were very few tourists in the summer when I was there (it was pretty hot) and it was really easy to get away from other people and be alone in the ruins. It is an incredibly moving and surreal experience. Do it before you die.

When I decided to learn the piano intro to this piece, I was surprised to learn that this song is in C sharp minor, which is a very unusual and seldom used scale. But it really gives it that haunting sort of feel, it's perfect!
Playing this song on piano sounds awesome, especially if you can get your hands on a Leslie cabinet, which I don't have. It's really fun to play this to people, and they have absolutely no clue what it is, but they always love it!
