Pink Floyd - Echoes (Full Pompeii Version)

- Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
No one speaks
And no one tries
No one flies around the sun
Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.
Here I am 71 doing what a did at 20. In a dark room headphones a joint and full volume

Some years ago, I was casually listening to one of the Nationally broadcast radio stations in Israel, call sign "Galgaltz". It was 3 or 4 on a Friday afternoon, prime time before the Sabath/weekend.
The station played Echoes in its entirety from half past the hour till the news on the hour. That's 24 min of no talking, no commercials, nothing. Just Pink Floyd on national radio.
@Nathan Garrett Roger Waters is an artist. As such, why exactly would I seek his approval to justify the historic need for a safe and prosperous Jewish homeland ? Just because Waters is an excellent artist doesn't make him an expert in other fields.

It's so ridic nowadays you cant even make a reference to listening to PF in Israel without people responding politically. Sure, govt makes mistakes. But Israel has tried for 70 years. Waters and Ruffalo are wrong. Its nothing like apartheid. S African Blacks didnt want to throw whites into the ocean. That's what Israel is up against.
Anyway. Great music! :) Tihieh Bar-ri
Man nick mason fucking brought his A game here. I dont think he gets enough appreciation he is a fantastic drummer.
In my NSHO,the drummers never get the recognition they deserve. They lay down the base, and timing is everything. PF was lucky enough to have some of the most talented drummers in history. Every bit the equal of Gilmore and his guitar, and THAT is saying something.

1000 years ago I would be living in a shitty thatched roof hut, having to work like a dog for an asshole noble.
70s ruled
Especially since that era is over now. 1965-1995 or so music was incomparable, full of talent, and legends to any other time in history. Or even more precise the 1965-1980 or so was all around pretty special. But I grew up in 80s and 90s so wasn't contemporary with that, so I'll add in the mid-90s too as classic. The internet which we are all watching this on now killed that talent of music unfortunately. But its an amazing resource to find that old music! Imagine having to own all the albums, CDs, or VHS tapes for all the music you can find that you like on UA-cam now. So, a blessing and a curse.

This song is made for when your so high that you completely lose the concept of time
You have no idea how many times. But time stops with the Floyd.
YEAAAAAH.
This song + acid is so mindblowing
Sure takes me back...brand new album, my room, lights out, black light on, walls full of black light posters, glow-in-the-dark stars stuck all over the ceiling, a joint (or two), a glass of sweet tea, a couple "ludes", my incense burning and........."the Floyd". I'm now 67 and still "Floyding out" everything is pretty much the same, except for the Black light and posters and of course, the "ludes" (dammit). Some things just never get old (just me), (again,.. dammit!).
I listened to this album during my first episode with LSD - what a trip that was!!!
I was quite young when this came out and really had no idea it existed. Unless you bought the album or listened to a friend's you didn't know. There was no internet, and you didn't get a lot of long play stuff on the radio or from limited TV exposure. Then one day, I went to visit my sister and her new husband who happened to have one of the coolest record collections I've ever seen: Floyd, ELP, The Who, Black Sabbath ... I dug in. And within that music was this gem. Man were my eyes opened that day. I went from a strict heavy rocker to trippy, progressive fanatic. By the time that weekend was over, I came away with some great music that has stuck with me throughout life. My sister is no longer married to her first husband, but I think I'm more thankful for him than she ever was.
My friend had it on vinyl....add acid....great night 😁
We saw it in theaters in the 70s where they hauled in giant speakers, and got someone to drive us home afterwards.

Who needs Drugs? Pink Floyd covers all your trippy needs!
One of my favourites although all pink Floyd are, echoes is like a journey, it takes you from the beginning with some massive highs then lowers you back down again.
All you older people who say music was better back in the day and a true experience to behold....you’re absolutely right, oh my god you’re right. I just turned 20 and this song blows me away and sends shivers through my body with the sounds of the echoing guitar and the rhythm of those drums and the electrifying power of the keyboard, this song is and will be forever a masterpiece in the timeline of human kind, I don’t believe anyone ever has, been, or will be Pink Floyd, they created the unthinkable and have given me personally a soundtrack to my life. I saw Pink Floyd at Pompeii when I was 13 years old at the Kimball movie theater on Yonkers Avenue circa 1979. Friday nights were rock and roll flicks for $.88 all night long. The place was packed with teens drinking and smoking becoming introduced to theirs minds; some of us made it and some did not. It was a magical time.

I was born in the right generation...
Where great music is available to all.
In 1988, myself and a couple of friends went boating/camping at Lake Powell. We ended up camping at the very end of Navajo Canyon at a spot with a small beach and cliffs towering behind us and across from us. We played this the first night - and the next, etc. It echoed off the walls across from us and sounded so eerie - and appropriate! Small campfire, billions of stars above us - and Pink Floyd. I can't hear this without remembering.
Just think of the unfortunate billions of humans ever born that were not able to hear these magnificent, musical geniuses.
This is like some sort of spiritual enlightenment.

JimiJop Woodstock good choice my friend
AT THEIR PRIME!! The best Floyd ever sounded together. Late 60's thru early 70's, they had it. This recording, More Blues in France, and in The Church in 1971 perfection. Found them in my younger days tripping acid and getting high with my friends. God what a time to be alive. I'd really regret missing the 1995 Division Bell Tour. I was a Senior in High School.
Spaceship Voyager, if ECHOES were on that 'Gold Record', I think we'd be over-run with Aliens from distant galaxies looking for more from Pink Floyd. 😉👍
Mother of all facts. In my opinion, if aliens came to earth to take our resources or drive humanity to extinction, this astronomically superb song alone would save us.
