One of my favourites although all pink Floyd are, echoes is like a journey, it takes you from the beginning with some massive highs then lowers you back down again.

There was no internet, and you didn't get a lot of long play stuff on the radio or from limited TV exposure. Then one day, I went to visit my sister and her new husband who happened to have one of the coolest record collections I've ever seen: Floyd, ELP, The Who, Black Sabbath ... I dug in. And within that music was this gem. Man were my eyes opened that day. I went from a strict heavy rocker to trippy, progressive fanatic. By the time that weekend was over, I came away with some great music that has stuck with me throughout life. My sister is no longer married to her first husband, but I think I'm more thankful for him than she ever was.

As good as Echoes is, that title goes to Astronomy Domine for me. I heard it for the first time on the Ummagumma album, and I was floored! Still am, when I listen to it.
Sure takes me back...brand new album, my room, lights out, black light on, walls full of black light posters, glow-in-the-dark stars stuck all over the ceiling, a joint (or two), a glass of sweet tea, a couple "ludes", my incense burning and........."the Floyd". I'm now 67 and still "Floyding out" everything is pretty much the same, except for the Black light and posters and of course, the "ludes" (dammit). Some things just never get old (just me), (again,.. dammit!).
I used to jam this song with a really good friend of mine. He showed me a lot about music through Pink Floyd. Losing him was one of the hardest things I have went through. I love and miss him dearly, and every time I hear this song, it takes me back and I get to laugh with his echoes. Beautiful.

I saw Pink Floyd at Pompeii when I was 13 years old at the Kimball movie theater on Yonkers Avenue circa 1979. Friday nights were rock and roll flicks for $.88 all night long. The place was packed with teens drinking and smoking becoming introduced to theirs minds; some of us made it and some did not. It was a magical time.

In 1988, myself and a couple of friends went boating/camping at Lake Powell. We ended up camping at the very end of Navajo Canyon at a spot with a small beach and cliffs towering behind us and across from us. We played this the first night - and the next, etc. It echoed off the walls across from us and sounded so eerie - and appropriate! Small campfire, billions of stars above us - and Pink Floyd. I can't hear this without remembering.

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
No one speaks
And no one tries
No one flies around the sun
Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.

In my NSHO,the drummers never get the recognition they deserve. They lay down the base, and timing is everything. PF was lucky enough to have some of the most talented drummers in history. Every bit the equal of Gilmore and his guitar, and THAT is saying something.

This song is a masterpiece in Rock history equivalent in scale to Beethoven's fifth symphony in Classical music
its also an early influence on berlin techno. bowie was influenced by this. Comparable to the doors, the end, in re to influencing what could be done expansion wise in rock.
Agree 65 y.o and still love the progressive bands of late 60’s and 70’s.
Of course Dark Side of the Moon will remain my fav.
ELP was loved Too.
15-septiembre
Por obligación debemos difundir. Musica . . . Buena.... RPB
Rick Wright was the most underrated musician ever!
Yup, still amazed about this musical construction. How? They’ve always blown my mind with their introspection at such a young age.
The best song of all times.
I never get enagh of it what a feeling..

As good as Echoes is, that title goes to Astronomy Domine for me. I heard it for the first time on the Ummagumma album, and I was floored! Still am, when I listen to it.
I suspect you're right
The Best song of all time is "la poderosa muerte" los jaivas band...listen to it
Sure takes me back...brand new album, my room, lights out, black light on, walls full of black light posters, glow-in-the-dark stars stuck all over the ceiling, a joint (or two), a glass of sweet tea, a couple "ludes", my incense burning and........."the Floyd".
Beautiful.
Your comment just touched my heart, I just lost my precious wife and feel really bad but this song always reminds me of all the beautiful times we shared together and it makes me smile even with tears in my eyes. Beautiful just as you said.
❤😢😢😢❤!
This is not just a song... it's a Masterpiece, a Mantra, an Anthem... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
De las más bellas melodías de Pink demostrando su exquisitez, hasta alguna que otra alma o espíritu de ese coliseo lo habrá disfrutado.....
I'll tell you one thing. When I saw them at old JFK stadium in philly in 1987, they opened with this song. I can die happy knowing I at least got to see 3/4 of the Floyd perform this masterpiece live.
Who wasn't there?
@@michaelzann9589 This is kind of Pink Floyd 101, but Roger Waters was out of the band by then.
I got to see all 4 of them perform this in 1975 at Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City,N.J. Absolutely AWESOME!!!!
Never will there be, anyone like Pink Floyd again. I listen to them everyday, it boost the morale, just amazing!!!!!
One of the greatest albums in history. Absolutely amazing!
By far, out of all their music, this song stands out the most. Everyone is playing on point.

Pretty magical opportunity to be at that place at that time. Im truly jelous. I discovered pink floyd 5 years ago while trippin acid. I wish I would of had the opportunity to see any of the members live. Unfortunately I dont see that happening. Im so greatful for what pink floyd is doing during these trying times of the covid
Fascinating era. Thanks for sharing Fred
how loud was it
In thousands years of human kind existence, i'm glad i was born in the same era as Pink Floyd

It’s cool to be able to hear each individual instrument in this recording
[Verse 1]
Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
[Chorus 1]
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the where's or why's
But something stirs and something tries
Starts to climb towards the light
[Verse 2]
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can?
[Chorus 2]
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
No one speaks and no one tries
No one flies around the sun
[5:10 - 19:00 - Instrumental]
[Verse 3]
Cloudless every day you fall
Upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
[Chorus 3]
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.
Summer green
Perfection! This echoes in my soul for ever...

I am 76yo now. By playing Wish You Were Here every day since the beginning of 2019 Mother Gaea and Father Time made The Love Of My Life find me back on Facebook June 10, 2020. I had been so stupid to leave her behind at Bratislava Hlavna Stanica in than still communist CzechoSlovakia 07/29/1980, so my 40y of wandering in the wilderness was finally over.
In the 70th I had the honour to organize the first show of Pink Floyd in Pompeï for The Netherlands in Paradiso Amsterdam.
I'll keep playing Pink Floyd for my Santa Lucia untill my last days!
Milujem t'a! Ik Hou Van Jou!
I love this album and is how I got turned on to Pink Floyd and the rest of their catalog of mind bending music.
Me to. Was a lost soul but their beautiful other worldly music helped me hang on.
Just know the old souls who have long past were brought back from the dead to hear this amazing song!
ONE OF THE MOST PRECIOUS JEWEL OF MUSIC WORLD
Compreensão, respeito, amor... é o que me transmite

Nunca consigo segurar o choro quando vou ouvir Echoes
This was the first song on deck ,when i would drive through Cascadia every morning at 4:00. Snow covered roads winding 100 miles to the other side. I did this every day for 9 months. What an inspiration, then and throughout my life.
This work of art is an incredibly unique reflection of one self and all that is great about music!
This is just beautiful! Magnificent a piece of art!! Spectacular
It's great my favorite is still animals
Love Pink Floyd one of my favorite bands grew up in 50/60s each album has deep meanings in my life. Oh how i loved the 70s no better time to have lived.
You may be right. Things have taken a turn for the worse since the Seventies. So glad we still have the music.
It’s hard to believe that some people will live their entire life without hearing this song, it’s haunting ancient tone sounds like a ballad of the universe and the ending seriously sounds like the end of time. The location also really complimented this image, perfection
This was the first song that I heard from PINK FLOYD back in ''75. And I became forever loyal fan since then.
Not musicians. Masters Of Sound!
I concur
Manipulators of sound waves
This and Deep Purple's Made in Japan are my two favourite moments of rock'n'roll. Sublime!
All generations listen to this.Thank you.
The Pink Floyd changed my life when I was a child, 1973 age 9. What a Trip ...I've been Living.....
the greatest solo Gilmour ever did. Its Fantastic.
There are not words to describe this
Headphones on, I was meditating to some solo piano piece. Then out of nowhere, just simply out of nowhere the thumping bassline of Echoes hit me hard. The next thing I know, I have this playing and I was transported to another world. I vividly remember watching this over and over on VHS tape a long time back.
Got this on loud through the speakers

I adore this song to death, it is the nicest treat for my ears, in all my 56 years on this earth... I have heard it thousands upon thousands of times, and I love it now, more than I ever have, it is me.
Brother , your reading my mail. Great comment
Truly masterful performance
Walked in that amphitheatre last year humming Echoes in my head the whole time
Thanks for posting this gem
I also went to pompeii to travel to this amphitheatre! Happy you could experience that too
My girlfriend and I had to leave the tour group, and to sneak into this amphitheatre... stole some grapes along the way...
that's otherworldly piece of art, thank you so much for sharing
Tricky Vicky, loved Pink Floyd and wish you and Roger Water never had your difference. But things happen and hope you two will stay friends, Amen. Love you, David Gilmour, GOD BLESS YOU and your family. Love this song, it's a masterpiece.
El viejo Pink el viaje perfecto, ojalá mi generación fuera musicalmente culta.
Acaso eres el 0.00001% que escucha pink floyd en 2020?
More than music, it is an experience through time and space.
When I first saw this on vhs I was in awe of the sounds of the wide open sky the seriousness of what 4 ppl can create just had to snatch this track from the cosmos into mother earth surface in Pompeii just fabulous!.
Definitely headphones kind of music.
