As a 4 time grandma, I have such fun watching you ladies navigate life. I wonder sometimes if you are aware of just how much you are doing.... Newly weds, new mums, huge remodeling project, new business ventures, traveling and all with a world of people watching you do it. Personally I am very impressed and truly appreciate being allowed to share in your world.
For my first birth I paid $5,000-$6,000 USD after insurance covered. If I remember correctly the actual cost before insurance paid was $30,000 or just over that. I'm in the US as well. My first delivery total was around 50k, we didn't pay a dime. My 2nd was 35k didn't pay a dime. Both were c-sections. First was with complications & why it was more. I'm so thankful insurance covered everything.
I am not a mom but I have worked in child care. One thing that might be good for Sunny in the future is a mesh teething pacifier. The pacifier opens and you can put ice, frozen breastmilk (frozen like ice cubes) or even frozen fruits in it. The cool will help with the teething and you won't have to worry about him loosing it because its a pacifier. There are also teething rings that you can put in the fridge to help as well. I know it will be a bit before Sunny will need these items but it gives you a chance to research them and decide if you want to buy them or not.
Also not a mom but a big sister to 4 younger siblings and those mesh teething pacifiers were so much help with some semi frozen grapes in it were a game changer
Daycare teacher here: those onesies with no buttons or zippers are not supposed to be pulled over the baby's head. They have these slight splits on the shoulders so you can put it on from the feet to the hips, arms entering the armholes, pulling over the chest and voila! Carefully roll your baby to its sides while doing it (like the diaper changing technique)
I would say it depends! With some you can do this, but I think with a newborn it would be quite a hassle. My baby would have screamed the whole time. The wrapping bodysuits are definitely a lot smoother in the beginning! Also some of the clothes with the normal neck don’t even have the overlapping flaps or even the buttons on the shoulder 🤦♀️ I think these should just not be allowed to exist in the smaller sizes 😅
I guess it's like with adult clothing: some are just not made well/ only replicating a style and baby body types also vary a bit. If the onesie is cut too small for your baby it won't fit at all. 100% agree not every baby likes getting dressed like that but it's the way those clothes are supposed to work. I worked with kids 3 months and up, so I can't really speak for newborns in general here.
Was going to say that! I used all onesies that have that cross system on the shoulders so the opening is big enough to put and and off from the legs up :)
The specific one they showed does not have the split and are a nightmare to use. I bought a few from that brand for my first child, but won’t be buying any for my next.
this is totally off topic, but the adult nappies that julie and camilla mentioned are also really helpful for periods. I highly recomend that anyone with heavy periods use these during the night because they absorb anything that goes over the sides so it doesn't stain as much. Plus you can pair them with pads for even more protection! They last longer than period underwear.
Yep. I have a very heavy period 2 days of my cycle and use them at night especially bc even with the ultra size tampons (largest size they make- they are a step above super plus), I will still leak after about an hour or so

Years ago my aunt gave birth to three twins. I totally relate to the “you need to help us to take care of us” because one day I went to her house and all the kids were totally fine but my aunt was sleep-deprived in the worst way. She needed to take a shower and to sleep so she prepared milk bottles ecc and me and my mom came to her place to let her sleep, shower, eat and just take a break and use time for herself. When she went to sleep we cooked for her and my uncle, cleaned her house and ofc took care of the kids. I can’t describe how much she thanked us. Small things can do a lot❤
Here in the UK, health care is free , before and after appointments are free, and staying at the hospital is free no matter how many nights you stay. The nurses/ midwifes are nice, calm people, and are really encouraging.You can also get a few months of paid maternity leave( not sure the exact amount) Though it's free, we pay for health care through taxes. Overall, the birthing system in the UK is quite good. Hope this helps ❤❤❤❤
Best purchase so far is a mini fridge (fits on the dresser and only big enough for 6 pack of soda). I exclusively pump and so it has been amazing to wake up, pump, and put the milk right in the mini fridge instead of walking all the way downstairs at 4am. Also great for making bottles at night when baby wakes up. Only about a foot tall and so worth it.
I would like to add: if you're gonna have mutiple kids, they and their needs might be completly different, so don't get rid of anything, you might have to repurchase it. And not only their needs change, yours too. I loved bodysuits and overalls with buttons all the way down with our first baby. You have unlimited time in your hands and aren't that used to handling a baby. With our second all those buttons drove me insane. Switched to over the head ones and was so happy with it. Once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. Don't pull the bodysuit over the head from the top. Place it on the mat, lay the back of the babys head on the opening and pull the bodysuit over the head the way the head goes through the birthing canal. 😂 You don't move their head. Just the clothing item. 🤗 Manche
I want to say it’s like 30,000 to 50 or 60,000 for birth in a hospital here depending on whether it’s natural birth or a c-section. They even charge you BOATLOADS of money for holding your baby after labor. It’s called ‘skin to skin’ and it’s a huge reason I’m nervous to have kids later in life. I don’t think I’ll be comfortable having kids at home because it makes me nervous but at the same time if there’s a problem with insurance on the bill it would ruin you financially. My sister had to dispute her labor and delivery bill for over a year after birth because they only covered the mother and initial delivery, when my nephew went to the NICU not a single penny was covered until she fought tooth and nail over it. You guys are such an inspiration and I wish our country would take notes from your part of the world, the after birth treatment alone is amazing. ❤

Where is "here"? I'm assuming USA, but my bill was about $3000 for an unmedicated birth also USA. Finding the right provider is also key. I have never heard of being charged for skin-to-skin, that's so sad that happened to your sister. Crazy that NICU can make 10x as expensive.
Yes! It was about $30,000 ($3000 with my insurance) to give birth (epidural) and $49,000 for my baby's one week stay NICU which was uncomplicated (waiting for the insurance to calculate this bill). I also got a letter that stated they the insurance 'accepted' my baby being in the NICU. This is from the USA has a state employee (teacher). As a teacher I get 6 weeks paid ( new bill from State last year) and I'm taking FML for as long as possible but I have to pay my own insurance for 4 weeks...
Yes!! That was our daughter! Sleep sacks are AWESOME! The swaddles didn't do SHITTTT to make her comfortable or sleep better but as soon as she was in a sleep sack she was like 'Oh hell yeah this is the life' and just wiggled and flopped (but asleep) between night feedings. She looooooved the freedom to move!
We had one that loved sleep sacks and one that needed to be so tightly swaddled you would think they couldnt survive. I do not how they could sleep like that but they did and it was the only way

I’m pregnant and I work with babies/mums. I love and always recommend the Manduca baby wrap. I don’t know if you can get it in Norway but I think it’s a perfect mix of being stretchy but also sturdy.
I became a mom 7 weeks after you guys. Our little girl HATES being swaddled too, she needs her hands to be free in order for her to sleep, she always has one hand on her cheek. Looking back, it makes sense, because even on her ultrasounds she always had one hand on her cheek lol. Just too bad for us, we bought the SNOO bassinet and a ton of their swaddle sleep sacks and baby girl can’t sleep in it for the life of her. A wrap I can recommend though is the Koala Baby Carrier / wrap. It’s easy to use as it’s pre-wrapped, it’s back friendly and you can readjust and tighten it while baby’s in there.
My daughter announced her displeasure with being swaddled in the hospital. The nurse would swaddle her, put her in the bassinet, and then leave the room. Immediately she would squawk and I would pull her arms out and she was fine. If you’re concerned about cold hands or arms, long sleeves with the fold over cuffs that act like mittens work great. For a bigger baby that is learning to eat, I would say a bib with sleeves (looks kind of like a straight jacket) is a must. I would personally go crazy having to wash clothes after every meal and/or trying to get the various stains out of clothes. I love it

Here in the U.S. in North Carolina cost on average for: Vaginal--$14,800 C-section--$26,300 Average Out of Pocket for $2,500 I also would bite my children’s nails!! Easy and free. Congratulations on this big learning journey.
You forgot to mention what “Average Out of Pocket” is. A lot of American’s don’t have health insurance so they’re left to pay the full amount. Also, Camilla and Julia probably have no idea what “Out of Pocket” is. 💕🩵🙃🙃

Here in Canada all care from midwives, OBs, or family doctors doing prenatal, labour and deliver, and postpartum care is free and covered by provincial health insurance! This includes home, hospital, and birth center births ❤ Hospital stays are considered a "charge" (usually around $100 a night) depending on provincial insurance but are generally free unless you want a private room, which sometimes is covered by private health insurance that Canadians often have for medications, dental, and other stuff :)
It does depend on what province you are in. Midwives are not covered in every province and for me I had to pay to use a midwife birth center, but it was free to give birth if I had a home birth with midwife or if I used a doctor in a hospital.
One thing that's not covered here that should be covered in my opinion is PT for perineal reeducation post partum (or even during pregnancy!). I think it's essential and should be available to anyone who requests it after carrying a child and giving birth even if they don't have a private insurance.

My baby hates being swaddled too! We tried a few times, but she just really needs her arms out. Also, for a baby wrap: babylonia has great non-strechy wraps. I've found that if the fabric isn't too stretchy, it's a tad more annoying to put on, but it stays in place really well.
My youngest is 23 years old and I still enjoyed watching this as it reminded me that I was told to bite my babies nails aswell and it worked. This video was so informative even though I didn’t need to know any of it it was just wonderful to see you talking for an extended period of time.

I really recommend ring slings for baby wearing. It's super easy to take baby in and out of and is pretty versatile when it comes to the size of your baby and what position they prefer.

I love this video! So relatable to my experience with my babies! The one thing I always recommend is the Snoo bassinet that rocks babies. Game changer for my 2nd baby! Back in the day it was the only rocking bassinet that was safe to sleep in so made SUCH a difference. Have fun with baby sunny, I feel like it just gets better and better as my kids grow up!

Something I recommend is trying out the Swaddelini. It applies slight gentle compression to the chest and arms of the baby which almost simulates a hug as if you're holding them. I plan on trying it with our firstborn later this year and have only heard great things!!
I had a vaginal birth with complications and I think we owed somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000 for my daughter’s bills and my bills. This included an extra night stay in the hospital because I had to be rushed to the OR after hemorrhaging. We have pretty good insurance too. This is a small thing but my breast pump was provided by insurance and a lot of the items that you showed in the beginning (like the peri-bottle) were all provided to me by the hospital as well. But those things don’t cost much compared to our hospital bills!
Our white noise machine has been an essential every single day of our 11 month olds life! Definitely recommend trying different types of white noise etc to help them sleep and block out any other noises.
yeah, loops are amazing - especially for neurodivergent people! they've been a life-saver for me since I started using them a while ago and I've been able to master social situations a lot better ever since! plus they're available in a lot of variations for different situations :) love you guys, you're amazing ♡
@Cristina-pl5zx well they are basically better (and reusable) earplugs that block out different levels of noise (there are different types blocking different amount of noise). wearing these can be very helpful for people who are highly sensitive (and other neurodivergent people like people with autism) and aren't able to filter the everyday noise on their own (neurotypical people are usually able to filter noises and other sensory impressions without even thinking about it - brains just work very differently, yk?). anyway, it helps me very much while learning in school, going out in public etc etc :)

I'm currently pregnant of my first baby and I desperately needed this video. I'm completely lost in this new world, I think I lost my mind every day when I'm trying my best to inform myself 😅 I panic every day because my baby will be here in 2 months and nothing is ready, I only have clothes because every person that I know give me some 😅 So thank you, it's really helpful ! To answer your question from the beginning of the video, I'm French and we need to pay for the first and second ultrasound respectively 50% and 25% of the practitioner's price (in my local maternity they don't make ultrasound for monitoring a pregnancy when it's not an emergency so it's not free because I need to go to a private practitioner and they are not free at all) but after the 6th month everything is free but if you want a private room during your recovery after the delivery you need to pay for every day you stay in that room (approximately 100€ per day it depends on the hospital and we stay around 3 to 7 days)
My baby didn't like to be swaddled either. My C-Section was around 7k after insurance coverages and that was in 2009! Also, the BEST thing ever for baby's delicates nails is the Filybean!!!! You wear it while your feeding baby (nursing or bottle) and it's reusable.

I'm also finishing up my 4th trimester...3rd round! I agree with most of what you've said. Bonus, all pumps allow you to switch out flabge sizes. Some have moreoptionsthanothers. I will say Halo Swaddle Sleepsacks are worth a try. If the swaddle part fails, it's still a sleepsack. I've had five since 2016 and my current babe is still using them. Also with Camilla on biting the nails. Of my 3, this is the first time I've been able to clip.
Love your content. I gave birth in the US, 36wk3day late pre-term. I didn’t realize I was in labor so by the time I got checked in and they realized I was in labor and didn’t just need to be check for ROM I was already 9cm dilated. Arrived at 7am delivered by 9am and everything went too fast for me to get any intervention, not even an IV placed. Stayed in the hospital 2 days because baby was early and they wanted to make sure he was fine before sending us home. I had no additional intervention besides the normal checks and things for newborn babies. All that is to say it still cost over $11,000, thankfully my partner and I have good insurance so we only paid $300 out of pocket but that’s on top of the very large monthly payments to the insurance company. I love seeing that other places in the world know a better way :-)

One thing that SAVED me with sleep was a “DOCKATOT” little mat. The sides are breathable - so no dangers with suffocation, it’s tight enough to the sides that it’s similar to swaddling, but he could still have his natural movement, it could be put in his bassinet or in bed next to me. ABSOLUTE favorite baby item. Also a sound machine. He’s 7 now and still sleeps with a white noise machine. 🖤 Good luck, love you guys!
It’s been a very long time for me, but I could never use a breast pump, however that haaka would have been a lifesaver! I wasted so much milk and so many pads! So sweet and generous of y’all to share the knowledge you have gained. Btw, that’s why I waited until my newest grandbaby was 3 months old before I got her some jeans!😜Biting his nails is the oldest and safest way! Y’all are doing great!🥰❤️
So true!!! Our baby refused all maneers of swaddle and only wanted to sleep on top of someone... ideally bouncing on a gym ball. Finding "your" fit is hard but so important that people hear that everyone is different and dont blame yourself if breastfeeding doesnt work, or your baby cries or doesnt sleep through the night
My LO is just five months old and LOVES anything snuggly. One thing id say is that if Sunny gets attached to something, like a comforter or stuffy of any kind- buy more than one. Keep them in a rotation for washing so he still has one or if the forbidden lost teddy saga happens you have a spare. We decided we didnt want that to happen, then give him an unusued one and him not being able to recognise it. All used at the same time=all equally as loved. ❤
With the bodysuits, we had the same issue that it was too tight to pull over the babies head. If you girls still want to use them, try pulling it from the bottom. We would pull the body suit from her feet up, get her hands in and boom! It’s on and no crying ❤

Especially the come over to take care of us for friends and family. I don't think fainly realise that you've got looking after thr baby down. They're so excited to see you and baby but you're excited to see baby too! I have the exact same baby carrier and omg it's the best. My baby is nearly 1 and its still so comfy. My son is 29 now, but when he was born my health insurance covered 70%, I had to send the hospital bill back twice w/changes. Charged $50 for a Tylenol(which I did not even take). Appreciate you telling what the difference is there from here. Glad it is better for you for sure. Not sure it will be better here as long as there is a Republican party here, the politicans in that party don't care whether we live or die from Covid or whether we go bankrupt from hospital bills and medication costs.
With my youngest, before my insurance was billed and after a c-section and NICU stay for 2 weeks, I owed $87,000. Insurance did eventually take care of most of it but I did get a bill for that whole amount.

Our little one is 17 months now and has only missed 4 baths, we’ve bathed her every night without fail and she has slept through the night since 6 weeks ( other than when she has been poorly) I highly recommend a bath each night, even if you’re not washing him, just giving him a warm soak
I agree with a cast majority of your recs. I am in the US so I have some different things to add that may fly under the radar but have been amazing for me: - a giant silicone straw for your giant water bottle so you can drink while reclined - slip-on tennis shoes like Kiziks. - a small cart on wheels with essentials so you can always have them handy (diapers, wipes, water, burp cloths) - a bunch of burp cloths. - nose Frieda - disposable incontinence pads to change baby on. The re-usable ones get so gross.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned which was a life saver with my first baby and I will be reusing them for my second due in a month are reusable burp cloths! They're just this big ol cotton piece of fabric that you fold to whatever shape you want! They're super absorbent and can be used for so many things. You can even use them as cloth diaper inserts as well! My first baby hated being swaddled so I never used a swaddle either, it just felt wrong to restrain her in any way. I did use the swaddle blankets as just regular blankets for her in the car seat or stroller and even in her bed once she got big enough! I used the ergo-baby carrier instead of the wrap because I just could not get it to sit right! It was super comfortable and easy to use however my first just didn't like being in a carrier, she wanted to be held at all times 🤪 hopefully the second will be more cooperative. The silicone pump was an absolute most have for me! I didn't even need to pump because of how much let down I collected from that. I love you both so much and have been so glad to be apart of your journey! Been here since the beginning, having a miscarriage myself at the same time as you, AND finding out I was pregnant with a rainbow boy around the same time as you (Due February 8)!
I am 26 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my first baby. Also a little boy🩵I feel like this video was so helpful. Just gave birth to baby #2 in US. It was roughly $27,500 for the birth and $3000 for epidural. I had very good insurance and didn't have to pay anything, but if I didn't I would have had to pay $30,000.
The swaddle thing is so true! Everyone swore up and down for our first that we needed dozens ... She *hated them* and we tried so many so we just had one for our second and oh BOY he'd still be swaddled at 18m if I'd let him 😂
Loops earplugs are amazing!!! I have a special needs son with high needs and sensory processing issues- loops have been a lifesaver for him navigating everyday situations. Can’t recommend them enough. I use them too ❤

Onesies that don't open/zip cardigan-style can be pulled up over the legs! They normally have an overlap on the shoulder seams so that they can open up more easily. Hopefully you're able to use all those cute clothes now!
My baby is 8 weeks old and I have followed Julie the entire pregnancy! :) Regarding the swaddle situation, my baby hates being swaddled as well! But he is such an active sleeper I felt like he just sleeps better with swaddles on. He loves to put up his little arms when he sleeps so I found the “love to dream” butterfly shaped swaddles works best for him! Hope it helps you guys too
Not at the stage where I’m having babies of my own yet but some advice from my mom about when I was a baby, I was very sensitive and have allergies so we tended to use more natural products, the best diaper rash cream my mum found is made by a company called Lunar Eclipse (not sure if it’s available there but my mum ended up making her own version once she found out it worked for me cause it has very few ingredients). Also highly recommend cloth diapers, less harsh on the skin and less money in the long run (can also reuse for future kiddos), and better for the environment. Glad u gals are finding things that work for you and sunny!

For my first birth I paid $5,000-$6,000 USD after insurance covered.
If I remember correctly the actual cost before insurance paid was $30,000 or just over that.
It’s not cheap and daycare costs are a huge consideration as well.

I'm in the US as well. My first delivery total was around 50k, we didn't pay a dime. My 2nd was 35k didn't pay a dime. Both were c-sections. First was with complications & why it was more. I'm so thankful insurance covered everything.
I am not a mom but I have worked in child care. One thing that might be good for Sunny in the future is a mesh teething pacifier. The pacifier opens and you can put ice, frozen breastmilk (frozen like ice cubes) or even frozen fruits in it. The cool will help with the teething and you won't have to worry about him loosing it because its a pacifier. There are also teething rings that you can put in the fridge to help as well. I know it will be a bit before Sunny will need these items but it gives you a chance to research them and decide if you want to buy them or not.
Not recommended in our country because of the risk of frostbite (? I think that is the right word for it).
Also not a mom but a big sister to 4 younger siblings and those mesh teething pacifiers were so much help with some semi frozen grapes in it were a game changer

Daycare teacher here: those onesies with no buttons or zippers are not supposed to be pulled over the baby's head. They have these slight splits on the shoulders so you can put it on from the feet to the hips, arms entering the armholes, pulling over the chest and voila! Carefully roll your baby to its sides while doing it (like the diaper changing technique)
I would say it depends! With some you can do this, but I think with a newborn it would be quite a hassle. My baby would have screamed the whole time. The wrapping bodysuits are definitely a lot smoother in the beginning!
Also some of the clothes with the normal neck don’t even have the overlapping flaps or even the buttons on the shoulder 🤦♀️ I think these should just not be allowed to exist in the smaller sizes 😅
I guess it's like with adult clothing: some are just not made well/ only replicating a style and baby body types also vary a bit. If the onesie is cut too small for your baby it won't fit at all.
100% agree not every baby likes getting dressed like that but it's the way those clothes are supposed to work. I worked with kids 3 months and up, so I can't really speak for newborns in general here.
They showed us to put it this way in the hospital from her first Day of life and it works very Well!

The specific one they showed does not have the split and are a nightmare to use. I bought a few from that brand for my first child, but won’t be buying any for my next.
this is totally off topic, but the adult nappies that julie and camilla mentioned are also really helpful for periods. I highly recomend that anyone with heavy periods use these during the night because they absorb anything that goes over the sides so it doesn't stain as much. Plus you can pair them with pads for even more protection! They last longer than period underwear.
Yep. I have a very heavy period 2 days of my cycle and use them at night especially bc even with the ultra size tampons (largest size they make- they are a step above super plus), I will still leak after about an hour or so

Years ago my aunt gave birth to three twins. I totally relate to the “you need to help us to take care of us” because one day I went to her house and all the kids were totally fine but my aunt was sleep-deprived in the worst way. She needed to take a shower and to sleep so she prepared milk bottles ecc and me and my mom came to her place to let her sleep, shower, eat and just take a break and use time for herself. When she went to sleep we cooked for her and my uncle, cleaned her house and ofc took care of the kids. I can’t describe how much she thanked us. Small things can do a lot❤

Yes we do not take care of the mom enough in the US at all. Other cultures are much better at this.
Here in the UK, health care is free , before and after appointments are free, and staying at the hospital is free no matter how many nights you stay. The nurses/ midwifes are nice, calm people, and are really encouraging.You can also get a few months of paid maternity leave( not sure the exact amount)
Though it's free, we pay for health care through taxes. Overall, the birthing system in the UK is quite good.

Best purchase so far is a mini fridge (fits on the dresser and only big enough for 6 pack of soda). I exclusively pump and so it has been amazing to wake up, pump, and put the milk right in the mini fridge instead of walking all the way downstairs at 4am. Also great for making bottles at night when baby wakes up. Only about a foot tall and so worth it.
I would like to add: if you're gonna have mutiple kids, they and their needs might be completly different, so don't get rid of anything, you might have to repurchase it. And not only their needs change, yours too. I loved bodysuits and overalls with buttons all the way down with our first baby. You have unlimited time in your hands and aren't that used to handling a baby. With our second all those buttons drove me insane. Switched to over the head ones and was so happy with it. Once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. Don't pull the bodysuit over the head from the top. Place it on the mat, lay the back of the babys head on the opening and pull the bodysuit over the head the way the head goes through the birthing canal. 😂 You don't move their head. Just the clothing item. 🤗 Manche
I want to say it’s like 30,000 to 50 or 60,000 for birth in a hospital here depending on whether it’s natural birth or a c-section. They even charge you BOATLOADS of money for holding your baby after labor. It’s called ‘skin to skin’ and it’s a huge reason I’m nervous to have kids later in life. I don’t think I’ll be comfortable having kids at home because it makes me nervous but at the same time if there’s a problem with insurance on the bill it would ruin you financially. My sister had to dispute her labor and delivery bill for over a year after birth because they only covered the mother and initial delivery, when my nephew went to the NICU not a single penny was covered until she fought tooth and nail over it.

Yes! It was about $30,000 ($3000 with my insurance) to give birth (epidural) and $49,000 for my baby's one week stay NICU which was uncomplicated (waiting for the insurance to calculate this bill). I also got a letter that stated they the insurance 'accepted' my baby being in the NICU.
This is from the USA has a state employee (teacher). As a teacher I get 6 weeks paid ( new bill from State last year) and I'm taking FML for as long as possible but I have to pay my own insurance for 4 weeks...
My baby hates being swaddled too but he loves his sleep sack! It keeps him warm but lets him squirm around and move freely still.
Yes!! That was our daughter! Sleep sacks are AWESOME! The swaddles didn't do SHITTTT to make her comfortable or sleep better but as soon as she was in a sleep sack she was like 'Oh hell yeah this is the life' and just wiggled and flopped (but asleep) between night feedings. She looooooved the freedom to move!
We had one that loved sleep sacks and one that needed to be so tightly swaddled you would think they couldnt survive. I do not how they could sleep like that but they did and it was the only way

I’m pregnant and I work with babies/mums. I love and always recommend the Manduca baby wrap. I don’t know if you can get it in Norway but I think it’s a perfect mix of being stretchy but also sturdy.
I became a mom 7 weeks after you guys. Our little girl HATES being swaddled too, she needs her hands to be free in order for her to sleep, she always has one hand on her cheek. Looking back, it makes sense, because even on her ultrasounds she always had one hand on her cheek lol. Just too bad for us, we bought the SNOO bassinet and a ton of their swaddle sleep sacks and baby girl can’t sleep in it for the life of her. A wrap I can recommend though is the Koala Baby Carrier / wrap. It’s easy to use as it’s pre-wrapped, it’s back friendly and you can readjust and tighten it while baby’s in there.
My daughter announced her displeasure with being swaddled in the hospital. The nurse would swaddle her, put her in the bassinet, and then leave the room. Immediately she would squawk and I would pull her arms out and she was fine. If you’re concerned about cold hands or arms, long sleeves with the fold over cuffs that act like mittens work great. For a bigger baby that is learning to eat, I would say a bib with sleeves (looks kind of like a straight jacket) is a must. I would personally go crazy having to wash clothes after every meal and/or trying to get the various stains out of clothes. I love it

Here in Canada all care from midwives, OBs, or family doctors doing prenatal, labour and deliver, and postpartum care is free and covered by provincial health insurance! This includes home, hospital, and birth center births ❤ Hospital stays are considered a "charge" (usually around $100 a night) depending on provincial insurance but are generally free unless you want a private room, which sometimes is covered by private health insurance that Canadians often have for medications, dental, and other stuff :)
I had private rooms with both my kids (in MB) and the rooms were free too.
It does depend on what province you are in. Midwives are not covered in every province and for me I had to pay to use a midwife birth center, but it was free to give birth if I had a home birth with midwife or if I used a doctor in a hospital.
One thing that's not covered here that should be covered in my opinion is PT for perineal reeducation post partum (or even during pregnancy!). I think it's essential and should be available to anyone who requests it after carrying a child and giving birth even if they don't have a private insurance.

My baby hates being swaddled too! We tried a few times, but she just really needs her arms out. Also, for a baby wrap: babylonia has great non-strechy wraps. I've found that if the fabric isn't too stretchy, it's a tad more annoying to put on, but it stays in place really well.

I really recommend ring slings for baby wearing. It's super easy to take baby in and out of and is pretty versatile when it comes to the size of your baby and what position they prefer.

I love this video! So relatable to my experience with my babies! The one thing I always recommend is the Snoo bassinet that rocks babies. Game changer for my 2nd baby! Back in the day it was the only rocking bassinet that was safe to sleep in so made SUCH a difference. Have fun with baby sunny, I feel like it just gets better and better as my kids grow up!

Something I recommend is trying out the Swaddelini. It applies slight gentle compression to the chest and arms of the baby which almost simulates a hug as if you're holding them. I plan on trying it with our firstborn later this year and have only heard great things!!

I had a vaginal birth with complications and I think we owed somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000 for my daughter’s bills and my bills. This included an extra night stay in the hospital because I had to be rushed to the OR after hemorrhaging. We have pretty good insurance too. This is a small thing but my breast pump was provided by insurance and a lot of the items that you showed in the beginning (like the peri-bottle) were all provided to me by the hospital as well. But those things don’t cost much compared to our hospital bills!
Our white noise machine has been an essential every single day of our 11 month olds life! Definitely recommend trying different types of white noise etc to help them sleep and block out any other noises.
Loops are AMAZING!!! I got mine in November and got the adjustable ones and have no complaints!! I LOVE being able to switch between sound intensities

yeah, loops are amazing - especially for neurodivergent people! they've been a life-saver for me since I started using them a while ago and I've been able to master social situations a lot better ever since!

@Cristina-pl5zx well they are basically better (and reusable) earplugs that block out different levels of noise (there are different types blocking different amount of noise).
wearing these can be very helpful for people who are highly sensitive (and other neurodivergent people like people with autism) and aren't able to filter the everyday noise on their own (neurotypical people are usually able to filter noises and other sensory impressions without even thinking about it - brains just work very differently, yk?).
anyway, it helps me very much while learning in school, going out in public etc etc :)

To answer your question from the beginning of the video, I'm French and we need to pay for the first and second ultrasound respectively 50% and 25% of the practitioner's price (in my local maternity they don't make ultrasound for monitoring a pregnancy when it's not an emergency so it's not free because I need to go to a private practitioner and they are not free at all) but after the 6th month everything is free but if you want a private room during your recovery after the delivery you need to pay for every day you stay in that room (approximately 100€ per day it depends on the hospital and we stay around 3 to 7 days)

Also, the BEST thing ever for baby's delicates nails is the Filybean!!!! You wear it while your feeding baby (nursing or bottle) and it's reusable.

I'm also finishing up my 4th trimester...3rd round! I agree with most of what you've said. Bonus, all pumps allow you to switch out flabge sizes. Some have moreoptionsthanothers. I will say Halo Swaddle Sleepsacks are worth a try. If the swaddle part fails, it's still a sleepsack. I've had five since 2016 and my current babe is still using them. Also with Camilla on biting the nails. Of my 3, this is the first time I've been able to clip.
Love your content. I gave birth in the US, 36wk3day late pre-term. I didn’t realize I was in labor so by the time I got checked in and they realized I was in labor and didn’t just need to be check for ROM I was already 9cm dilated. Arrived at 7am delivered by 9am and everything went too fast for me to get any intervention, not even an IV placed. Stayed in the hospital 2 days because baby was early and they wanted to make sure he was fine before sending us home. I had no additional intervention besides the normal checks and things for newborn babies. All that is to say it still cost over $11,000, thankfully my partner and I have good insurance so we only paid $300 out of pocket but that’s on top of the very large monthly payments to the insurance company. I love seeing that other places in the world know a better way :-)

One thing that SAVED me with sleep was a “DOCKATOT” little mat. The sides are breathable - so no dangers with suffocation, it’s tight enough to the sides that it’s similar to swaddling, but he could still have his natural movement, it could be put in his bassinet or in bed next to me. ABSOLUTE favorite baby item. Also a sound machine. He’s 7 now and still sleeps with a white noise machine. 🖤

It’s been a very long time for me, but I could never use a breast pump, however that haaka would have been a lifesaver! I wasted so much milk and so many pads! So sweet and generous of y’all to share the knowledge you have gained. Btw, that’s why I waited until my newest grandbaby was 3 months old before I got her some jeans!😜Biting his nails is the oldest and safest way! Y’all are doing great!🥰❤️
So true!!! Our baby refused all maneers of swaddle and only wanted to sleep on top of someone... ideally bouncing on a gym ball. Finding "your" fit is hard but so important that people hear that everyone is different and dont blame yourself if breastfeeding doesnt work, or your baby cries or doesnt sleep through the night
My LO is just five months old and LOVES anything snuggly. One thing id say is that if Sunny gets attached to something, like a comforter or stuffy of any kind- buy more than one. Keep them in a rotation for washing so he still has one or if the forbidden lost teddy saga happens you have a spare. We decided we didnt want that to happen, then give him an unusued one and him not being able to recognise it. All used at the same time=all equally as loved. ❤

With the bodysuits, we had the same issue that it was too tight to pull over the babies head. If you girls still want to use them, try pulling it from the bottom. We would pull the body suit from her feet up, get her hands in and boom! It’s on and no crying ❤

I have the exact same baby carrier and omg it's the best. My baby is nearly 1 and its still so comfy. I was lucky enough to win mine but I would 100% pay the full price for it, its so nice.

My son is 29 now, but when he was born my health insurance covered 70%, I had to send the hospital bill back twice w/changes. Charged $50 for a Tylenol(which I did not even take). Appreciate you telling what the difference is there from here. Glad it is better for you for sure. Not sure it will be better here as long as there is a Republican party here, the politicans in that party don't care whether we live or die from Covid or whether we go bankrupt from hospital bills and medication costs.
With my youngest, before my insurance was billed and after a c-section and NICU stay for 2 weeks, I owed $87,000. Insurance did eventually take care of most of it but I did get a bill for that whole amount.

Our little one is 17 months now and has only missed 4 baths, we’ve bathed her every night without fail and she has slept through the night since 6 weeks ( other than when she has been poorly) I highly recommend a bath each night, even if you’re not washing him, just giving him a warm soak
The oogiebear has been one of my most useful things for baby! Great for getting the boogers out when a nose sucker doesn’t do the trick ;)
The Boppy wrap is really nice! It has a harness “clip” on the base around your waist so its extra secure and doesn’t fall
I agree with a cast majority of your recs. I am in the US so I have some different things to add that may fly under the radar but have been amazing for me:
- a giant silicone straw for your giant water bottle so you can drink while reclined
- slip-on tennis shoes like Kiziks.
- a small cart on wheels with essentials so you can always have them handy (diapers, wipes, water, burp cloths)
- a bunch of burp cloths.
- nose Frieda
- disposable incontinence pads to change baby on. The re-usable ones get so gross.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned which was a life saver with my first baby and I will be reusing them for my second due in a month are reusable burp cloths! They're just this big ol cotton piece of fabric that you fold to whatever shape you want! They're super absorbent and can be used for so many things. You can even use them as cloth diaper inserts as well!
My first baby hated being swaddled so I never used a swaddle either, it just felt wrong to restrain her in any way. I did use the swaddle blankets as just regular blankets for her in the car seat or stroller and even in her bed once she got big enough!
I used the ergo-baby carrier instead of the wrap because I just could not get it to sit right! It was super comfortable and easy to use however my first just didn't like being in a carrier, she wanted to be held at all times 🤪 hopefully the second will be more cooperative.
The silicone pump was an absolute most have for me! I didn't even need to pump because of how much let down I collected from that.

I was just making my baby registry yesterday and stressing about things I need and what I wouldn’t need and what breast pump to get and I feel a lot less stressed watching what you had to say. Almost 15 weeks with my little boy! I’m very unprepared due to financial situations, but I can agree this took a lot of stress off of my shoulders. This video was entertaining all while being informative and that helps a lot

Just gave birth to baby #2 in US. It was roughly $27,500 for the birth and $3000 for epidural. I had very good insurance and didn't have to pay anything, but if I didn't I would have had to pay $30,000.
You paid nothing?? Even with my insurance, I paid at least 10k. It’s been 8 years so I can’t remember exact numbers but it was a lot.
We have good insurance too.
The swaddle thing is so true! Everyone swore up and down for our first that we needed dozens ... She *hated them* and we tried so many so we just had one for our second and oh BOY he'd still be swaddled at 18m if I'd let him 😂
Loops earplugs are amazing!!! I have a special needs son with high needs and sensory processing issues- loops have been a lifesaver for him navigating everyday situations.

My favourite baby purchase ever is the Nose Frida (snot sucker). It has SAVED me on so many occasions (plus it’s super satisfying for the parents!!).

I HIGHLY recommend the SNOO for night time sleep. It also has a feature that allows you to leave baby’s arms unswaddled.
Onesies that don't open/zip cardigan-style can be pulled up over the legs! They normally have an overlap on the shoulder seams so that they can open up more easily. Hopefully you're able to use all those cute clothes now!

Regarding the swaddle situation, my baby hates being swaddled as well! But he is such an active sleeper I felt like he just sleeps better with swaddles on. He loves to put up his little arms when he sleeps so I found the “love to dream” butterfly shaped swaddles works best for him! Hope it helps you guys too
Not at the stage where I’m having babies of my own yet but some advice from my mom about when I was a baby, I was very sensitive and have allergies so we tended to use more natural products, the best diaper rash cream my mum found is made by a company called Lunar Eclipse (not sure if it’s available there but my mum ended up making her own version once she found out it worked for me cause it has very few ingredients). Also highly recommend cloth diapers, less harsh on the skin and less money in the long run (can also reuse for future kiddos), and better for the environment. Glad u gals are finding things that work for you and sunny!
