This will be the first time I will be experiencing it, and I gotta say the demo for switch is great. Although, I must point out (for other viewers before they change their settings) to allow other players to see how their game is/how their circumstances are. I found no audio balancing issues at all on max settings and I actually turned up the brightness to 60, albeit I am playing on a 42 inch television because I don’t really play the switch undocked too often unless I have to (thanks to Nintendo drift ;D ) so other people’s mileage may vary. I assume you played undocked? In which it’d make sense for those reasons, although I can’t say for sure. Great video all in all man!
Thank you! I actually played docked for the most part, (gotta get that UA-cam footage) but I have heard others say they didn’t have the same audio issues. So that will definitely depend on each persons setup I suppose!

Why the fuck would anyone want to turn the soundtrack down for this game? Sounds fine to me and I can still hear the voices. Are you sure your sound system that you use doesn't suck? Because if I were you i'd check to see if your headphones or whatever it is that you use actually works right.
Great review man. I just have a quick question for those that have played and beat the game, so spoilers are below SPOILERS I was just wondering how far I am in the game. I am in act 2 and I have all my party members and I just beat tatsunaga in hotto. I still need to collect materials to forge the sword of light and I just entered Gallopolis to do so. Thanks!
Jack Miller I have a terrible memory and I don’t want to accidentally spoil anything for you, but I think you still have a bit to go. You are nearing the last stretch of the game, though.
This one's a bit of a sleeper hit for me which I'm happy about. A lot of JRPGs can be hit or miss for me (whether the reason be combat, art style, story blah blah) so while I do like to dig in during sales I don't usually pay too much attention to many of them. That being said the demo for this one was a lot of fun and sold me on buying it pretty quick, I'm looking forward to grabbing it day one and I'm glad I didn't know much about it for long because I probably would've pulled all my hair out waiting.
I bought the PS4 version and I still I haven't play it. I'm seriously thinking getting rid of that version and buying this one, I want to play the definitive version because I KNOW I don't play twice games this long, because I'm a grow up and I don't have the time and I have to many games without finish them.
bought the first game, and i am yet to turn it on. But after putting alot of hours into Dragon Builders 2. ;3 almost have it beaten. I am looking forward to dipping my toes into this game on the switch.
I believe all of the Dragon Quest games that use a symphonic orchestral soundtrack use a synthesised MIDI soundtrack for the town at night track. And Dragon Quest XI on the PlayStation 4 runs at 900p. So if Dragon Quest XI S does run at a dynamic resolution with 900p being the highest resolution docked, I'll be surprised and happy. Saying that, I look forward to when 27 September 2019 comes, so I can get my pre-order in my hands.
i have the switch version on pre-order and have the ps4 version love this game beat it 7 or 8 times already theres a tone of new stuff in the switch version i saw in the demo over the ps4 version but but they took out one draconian quests and replaced that one with 3 new one's im just so hyped for it next month cause im playing the whole thing in 2D mode from start to finish
well i still havent played the game yet but i think i will get it on the ps4 still. i wanted to play it on ps4 when released but i had already a lot of other games to play and i kept delaying it. when they anounced the swith version i thougth since i didnt played it yet migth as well wait and play the definitive edition on the switch. but i tried the demo the other day and the visuals downgrade even thou is not huge its still noticeble and the thing is now i can get the game on ps4 for half or less the price from the switch so even thou i liked to play the definitive version, for monetary reasons mainly i think ill get the ps4 version.
Ps4 has two big advantages, better visuals and cheaper price. Trust me I compared the versions myself, looks way better on ps4 than docked Switch. But in the end Switch wins imo, way more content, Turbo mode and especially the orchestral music.
I'd love to see them add the orchestral music, Japanese dub, and QoL features down the road to the PS4 version as a free DLC. After enough time has passed to let the Switch port shine and sell loads of copies. The game is popular enough in Japan, and its publisher is a big enough company, that I don't doubt it could happen. It even sold decently well in the west (despite not reaching its full potential due to, in part, the bad release timing.)
Hate to inform you but Nintendo not only published This version of DQ11 the also published the 3ds version in japan. The only thing they could release for ps4 that nintendo hasn't paid for is the music. And even then Nintendo might have paid the composer and his band for the better music too. I dont see nintendo allowing what they paid for to go to ps4.
I disagree with your claim that that the draqonion modifiers are for veteran players. The dragon quest games (Like most square jrpgs) are Far to easy. Adding the more strong enemies and no xp for low level enemies is bare minimum for any challenge.
Hmm... My game crashed twice inside Miko’s house in Hotto and when spamming the Bear in Mt. Huji for nearly an hour for Tough Guy Tattoo. Nothing else wrong. But now I have all the best items from the demo all +3 and at max level 20. I’m just going through it again on Draconian Super Tough mode
This game is something special can’t wait the demo is over and I’m mad I want it now. So I was itching to buy a RPG and bought super Neptunia that was a big mistake.
Damn you switch. I cant not buy games that i want....now my backlog consists of marvel alliance, dragon quest builders, fire emblem, just got astral chain...now this.... Nintendo has dominated 2019
I just got Fire Emblem, Collection of Mana, Astral Chain and The Messenger (which was a complete mistake as I pre-ordered it, totally forgot and bought it digitally) recently. I just pre-ordered River City Girls and Ninja Saviors. Also got Zelda Link's Awakening pre-ordered. Yes, Nintendo is killing it with the sheer amount of games I haven't seen since the SNES days.
I'm playing the demo and it's good, but idk if I should buy this when it comes out or just get the ps4 version. Though I'm not like a huge visuals guy, I'm not sure whether or not I want to see it in it's full ps4 glory. And I also dont know how much story content is being added and if its worth it.
Visuals are only slightly downgraded and the extra content is substantial. Not only do you get new story content and quests, but there's tons of quality-of-life improvements too. Switch is the definitive way to play.
At least the orchestrated soundtrack should be made official on PC (because there is a mod) and finally available on PS4. I’m likely going to double dip on this because I love this game, but it would be nice if we got the orchestral score
We won't, its a safe bet that Nintendo paid for all the extra content as well is also handling the publishing and Game cart costs for this version. It will be exclusive like the the extras in the builder games
@@robertwallen1582 Square Enix said that is still undecided about releasing new contents on other consoles. If they couldn't, they would just say it. I suppose if it's limited to Nintendo, it's a timed one.
The story so far is great but the game play is awful. Not organized enough for me and the battle system is too easy or not well explained. Why is my only option fight or to tell my team mate to fight more wise etc. That's it? Smh. I cant cast spells or tell my crew to do anything else but flee.
I'm a little confused here. First off, yes the game is a bit easy on the default difficulty. I recommend the "stronger monsters" option for players looking for more of a challenge. Also, how far are you? The Hero learns spells pretty quickly and most party members have spells and abilities too. Also you can manually control each character by adjusting their Tactics to "Follow Orders". The DQ battle system is simple, but it rewards creativity. Later bosses can be quite challenging if you don't play smart, and there's a lot of options and approaches. If you need more info, there's a few good spell/ability guides that break things down.
i was really skeptic but it turns out they managed to pull this off, of course, comparing both versions, i would wish that the PS4 or PS5 later on would get this complete ed. and why not the xbox too but graphics even on tV are okay and it runs fine , it's quite impressive, the only thing that really bothers me to the point that i do not think i will played it for a 3rd run , is just the music, yes the orchestral vers. is better but damn it is so repetitive , why don't they make multiples battle themes like in Grandia ?? that changed each third of the game.... it is still the huge drawback to me , to an exceptional RPG, i've played from 5 to XI ( not X ) and to me it's the second best DQ after the VII. i really hope this complete vers. will come as a paid patch to PS4 , cos it would be ready to pay it , just to have the best graphics , and PC too . and i hope that SE will release this game to all platforms one day like they do with final fantasy.
The game it's 10/10. But for who played on the PC/PS4 the downgrade in this version it's really sad... I feel I'm playing an old PS3 game or even a ''remastered'' PS2 game. (And I really don't usually care so much about graphics, but this port bothered me a lot)
I agree, the comparison between the PC/PS4 version does look a little less washed out and has better lighting effects. But I don’t think it’s really a problem that it looks like it was on the PS3 or even the PS2. Dragon Quest 8 looked phenomenal on the PS2 and just as good on the 3DS
Dude really? A remastered version of a ps2 game? Get some good glasses next time you visit an eye doctor please and ask your money back at your current one.
Honestly the visuals shouldnt even be considered a negative. 98% of people who have no played this on ps4 will never tell the difference.. Unless doing side by side comparison. I have This on the ps4 and sold it just to get the switch version. The switch version is where it's at, Plus more. The portability makes this the icing on the 🎂
I play the PlayStation 4 version and I post it on my 2nd Channel saying it was switch gameplay and a lot of people said that the PlayStation 4 version Look worse than PlayStation 4 version. So I can always feel that people can't tell the difference unless they know which console is on.
I've resigned myself to make do with this port, but I feel positively fucked over by this being a Switch exclusive. Seeing that DQ has had trouble selling in the west, I felt pretty good playing it at release on PS4. To have so many features, especially those that SHOULD have been included in the first release, sold again, visually downgraded, at full price on a different console... I don't know why this issue is being hand waved by almost everyone or being misconstrued as a console-war issue. The whole thing is blatantly corporate greed. Blatantly anti-consumerist. This is not a healthy direction that any game should have to take. We all deserve better treatment than this.
[Spoilers & Unpopular Opinions Ahead] All of the S release features should have been in the original release of the game. Makes that $60 I spent hurt a bit for an incomplete game. A lot of long running franchises grow and evolve, while Dragon Quest feels as though it's stuck in time-- the midi music doesn't help, especially after the first few moments of nostalgia wears off. DQ11 feels stagnant with its game play mechanics, and while they might have flown back "in the day", you feel the battles really drag. FF has done a great job of bringing turn based fighting into present day, making your time feel well spent and the battles engaging and exciting. The auto-pilot fighting option is indicative of this. The story was engaging but unnecessarily brutal for the obvious sake of giving the time travel more impact, like a cooling balm has on a burning blister. It makes the story crafting feel cheap, despite the characters and world being great... with the exception of the silent, dead-eyed protagonist. I understand the value of having the hero silent (I think I'd die if they made Link talk), but there's a difference between a dead fish and a vessel for your imagination. The protagonist is an obvious black hole where the rest of the cast is fantastic, and this is something that I hadn't felt about the DQ main heroes until this installment. In addition, the crude sex humor and rehashing of the same exact jokes from the series is also something that I wish they would evolve out of. Resting on their laurels and just a scant more. While I've enjoyed the series in the past, I wish I would have seen more honest reviews of the game b/c I wouldn't have bought it know what I know now. I think nostalgia carries most of the game, because while there are things I thought were great, I sincerely believe it doesn't deserve the absolute adulation people give it.
Honestly the visuals shouldnt even be considered a negative. 98% of people who have no played this on ps4 will never tell the difference.. Unless doing side by side comparison.
This is a good review to me but I was surprised that he mentioned the downgraded resolution only moments after being upset that the 2D look wasn't an option in the demo.
Another little tweak I've noticed is that there's more voice acting during combat now. In the PS4 version, characters would typically say something or make a sound when attacking or performing an action. But now OTHER characters sometime respond to whatever is happening with the active character. For example, if one of your characters suffers a serious attack and loses a lot of health, Erik might check in on them with a concerned "Are you OK?!" It's a very nice touch as it makes the combat feel more dynamic and it makes your characters seem more alive. It also plays up the whole friendship theme of the game, i.e. these characters care about each other and support each other. On top of that, I'm seeing more speech bubbles during combat which... I don't remember from the PS4 version? Not sure if that's new or if maybe there's just more of it now, but it feels new. Similarly, you can see all the characters in your party in the overworld now, which is nice and also plays up the friendship theme because you can talk with different characters directly that way rather than having to go to the party chat menu option. It's just a little touch that makes the world feel more "real". There's also a quick menu which is useful, and shortcuts for the forge and for calling a horse (which is not available in the demo) and also optional DQ VIII music in the overworld (also not available in the demo, but I'm VERY excited about it). I've noticed a few other little changes/improvements but those are the biggest ones that come to mind at the moment, apart from all the HUGE content additions like the 2D mode, new story content, and the orchestral music of course.
I’ll be buying it when it releases on the switch been waiting specifically for it to come out for the switch before it was even announced and I played the demo and I loved it but did turn the volume down on my tv thinking it was a bit loud 😂 and I cleared it within 8 hours so I might have missed a few things
Ikr. I have a friend that really likes Pokemon but was starting to get underwhelmed by SwSh. He played the DQ demo and was blown away. He's now getting DQXIS instead of SwSh! Quality matters and Pokemon needs to get that!
The game still looks great despite the weaker hardware and I love that. I like it when companies don't try and force the game to work past the consoles capabilities and make setbacks to make sure it actually runs well. Granted you get a worse looking game but it's just graphics.
Played the Switch demo till the end. Couldn't wait for the Switch release and bought it on Steam at full price. The game is that good, turned me into a Dragon Quest fan over night (literally).
got the original on pc, installed the orchestral soundtrack mod and it was a good experience, but apparently my pc isn't good enough for this game....somehow. The game ran just fine, but at certain cutscenes it would crash. So I'm getting the switch version. Also faster battle speed is one of the best things invented.
I'm a big DQ fan, but this would be my first dip into the game, if I bought the Definitive Edition. I would much rather have this available on PS4 or Steam...even if I had to pay for a DLC for the additional content/QoL enhancements.
Nintendo probably footed the bill for a lot of this because they REALLY want Dragon Quest in the west (and they also want to be synonymous with the series in the west). I’m not saying such a thing is impossible, mind you, but it’s definitely going to be pretty delayed at the very least.
Quiel Evolution Gameplays Yeah, I thought it was fine, but the orchestral version is way better. But some people just got seriously upset about the PS4 music. Like, it was absurd. 😅
Reasoning behind some music not being orchestrated is because the tracks that are symphonic use the retail symphonic suites that have been looped, so the music was not orchestrated specifically for this release. The Orchestral Overhaul Mod on PC did this as well to achieve orchestrated tracks, and the same tracks not orchestrated in that mod are the ones not orchestrated in 11S.
Does anyone know if you can customize your character in this game? I’ve been a fan of dragon quest and I know you can in the older games but I’m curious if you can in this one.
I have PS4 also other than Switch. Because the need to play long RPG, Switch’s mobility and instant resume from sleep r great to play on the go, such as waiting when out or dumping on toilet
Nice, but be warned, unless you're playing the Japanese version, the translation text is going to be very different. In some cases the characters may say completely different things in the translation.

I'm seriously thinking getting rid of that version and buying this one, I want to play the definitive version because I KNOW I don't play twice games this long, because I'm a grow up and I don't have the time and I have to many games without finish them.
I say get the Switch version. It's the definitive way to play and graphics are only slightly downgraded versus PS4
i think ill definitely wait a couple years (seeing as i still haven't finished playing it on the PS4)
bought the first game, and i am yet to turn it on.
Wow! That's some dedication if you beat this game over 5 times!
Seen someone talk about a new character. Any news on this? Is this like DQ8 on 3ds with Morry and Red?
well i still havent played the game yet but i think i will get it on the ps4 still. i wanted to play it on ps4 when released but i had already a lot of other games to play and i kept delaying it. when they anounced the swith version i thougth since i didnt played it yet migth as well wait and play the definitive edition on the switch. but i tried the demo the other day and the visuals downgrade even thou is not huge its still noticeble and the thing is now i can get the game on ps4 for half or less the price from the switch so even thou i liked to play the definitive version, for monetary reasons mainly i think ill get the ps4 version.
Ps4 has two big advantages, better visuals and cheaper price.
Trust me I compared the versions myself, looks way better on ps4 than docked Switch.
But in the end Switch wins imo, way more content, Turbo mode and especially the orchestral music.
@@Alex-mb2cy 1-Tablet vs Console. Yes. I just called the Switch a tablet.
2- Cartridges vs Disks
just remember PS4 version wont have the extra content or new music.
@@natashasibley445 yeah not having the new music bothersme a bit but the extra content not much. The game is already long as it is, its enoughfor me.
@@fabionunes7081 Fair enough. I'm sure you will enjoy it either way DQ games are awesome.
Still thinking about this one... Seems like a great game and series but I need money first!
I disagree with your claim that that the draqonion modifiers are for veteran players. The dragon quest games (Like most square jrpgs) are Far to easy. Adding the more strong enemies and no xp for low level enemies is bare minimum for any challenge.
I don't know man. The harder monsters option is actually hard unless you like grinding a lot
There's going to be a patch to fix the crashing.
This game is something special can’t wait the demo is over and I’m mad I want it now. So I was itching to buy a RPG and bought super Neptunia that was a big mistake.
From the massive lineup of fantastic rpgs on Switch you Chose super Neptunia? 😂😂😂😂
Most definitely! You are not alone ! I suffer with you
The sound is balanced perfectly. Weird
Hmm idk if i should buy it for the switch or play the pc version again when i buy my 4k tv
Switch has exclusive content
We need these new contents on PS4 and PC!
@@Kris95x it was coming when did they just say it like they did with World of Final Fantasy?
I've noticed as well you can't grind past level 20 in the demo ,guess they don't want you being over powered later on
It’s honestly for your own good. Level 20 is already really over leveled for the difficulty level of this game, haha.
@@Doct0rLekter yeah I got kind of addicted to levelling up ,I kept saying "Just one more level" Then the demo had to step in and say Enough! Haha
Gamer4Life85 honestly, I had the same problem so I ended up replaying it again so I could have a save file that isn’t over leveled, heh
Will the data carry over if I’m buying the hard copy?
Yes!
I am buying it !
Any word on dragon quest 1,2,3 being able to purchase via Nintendo e shop soon ?
Unfortunately only in Japan for now. You can buy the Asian physical release tho and it has the English translation.
Us and eu will get the games also. Got anounced today :)
explored and took me 6 hours.
Guess who's buying DQ11 again!? This guy
Nitpick Central
If you need more info, there's a few good spell/ability guides that break things down.
first time
i was really skeptic but it turns out they managed to pull this off, of course, comparing both versions, i would wish that the PS4 or PS5 later on would get this complete ed. and why not the xbox too
but graphics even on tV are okay and it runs fine , it's quite impressive, the only thing that really bothers me to the point that i do not think i will played it for a 3rd run , is just the music, yes the orchestral vers. is better but damn it is so repetitive , why don't they make multiples battle themes like in Grandia ?? that changed each third of the game.... it is still the huge drawback to me , to an exceptional RPG, i've played from 5 to XI ( not X ) and to me it's the second best DQ after the VII. i really hope this complete vers. will come as a paid patch to PS4 , cos it would be ready to pay it , just to have the best graphics , and PC too . and i hope that SE will release this game to all platforms one day like they do with final fantasy.
To save the game you need to go to a church. I never knew hero was religious.
@@MMoer Relax dude hahaha It's just MY opinion. (and a joke) The game still ''beautiful'' but not anymore BREATHTAKING.
I hate the fact that i am going to buy an upgraded version of a game i already own on ps4
This version make evey past version of dq11 look like a joke
Well PC versions with 4k visuals and Ochestral Mod and 60fps is a good choice if you dont mind not having the extra stories and past lands stuff.
I won't be buying it. Doesn't seem that enough has changed to justify another play thru.
The Switch IS a console...
Have it on the PC so don’t need it on the PS4
I'm still playing through it, and holy shit it is great!
I’ll be buying it when it releases on the switch been waiting specifically for it to come out for the switch before it was even announced and I played the demo and I loved it but did turn the volume down on my tv thinking it was a bit loud 😂 and I cleared it within 8 hours so I might have missed a few things
Watching this makes me so sad and disappointed about the new Pokemon games :(
Ikr. I have a friend that really likes Pokemon but was starting to get underwhelmed by SwSh. He played the DQ demo and was blown away. He's now getting DQXIS instead of SwSh! Quality matters and Pokemon needs to get that!
I love everything about sword and Sheild
@@LoveDude69 even the graphics?
The game still looks great despite the weaker hardware and I love that. I like it when companies don't try and force the game to work past the consoles capabilities and make setbacks to make sure it actually runs well. Granted you get a worse looking game but it's just graphics.
Played the Switch demo till the end. Couldn't wait for the Switch release and bought it on Steam at full price. The game is that good, turned me into a Dragon Quest fan over night (literally).
Yup. The music the charm. The difficulty far exceeds every other dragon quest game.. The modifiers are fucking amazing..
What part of the story does the demo end at?
I already spent like 100 hours on the Ps4 version
And I played the demo on the Switch
And I just want to replay this whole game again
Its amazing
The music volume is ok. Whats your problem ?!?
I would highly recommend people play on hard mode because normal is just so easy it feels like a story mode difficulty
got the original on pc, installed the orchestral soundtrack mod and it was a good experience, but apparently my pc isn't good enough for this game....somehow. The game ran just fine, but at certain cutscenes it would crash. So I'm getting the switch version. Also faster battle speed is one of the best things invented.
A review on a demo?
Anyone else having crashing issues?
It's a common issue. The developers have a patch to fix it in the final game.
night time tracks being synthesized was a thing in the us release of dq8, so at least it is consistent. Not bad, honestly.
"The music volume is too loud"
I had the opposite experience. I had to turn down voices and sound effects.
I think this game looked amazing- one of the best on the switch
You didn't like the synthesized music on the original release?
I thought you were a real gamer. 😉
SuperPope Gaming The original version isn't that bad, but you can't compete with AN ACTUAL ORCHESTRA
Quiel Evolution Gameplays Yeah, I thought it was fine, but the orchestral version is way better. But some people just got seriously upset about the PS4 music. Like, it was absurd. 😅
Real gamer ? That music DID NOT MATCH THE VISUALS... Midi music was such a dumb idea for DQ11
masta inc Just a joke, my friend. That’s why I put the winking emoji.
Because the need to play long RPG, Switch’s mobility and instant resume from sleep r great to play on the go, such as waiting when out or dumping on toilet
first time, been playing it in japanese and enjoying it. wanna use the game to learn japanese like tim rogers did. lmao
Nice, but be warned, unless you're playing the Japanese version, the translation text is going to be very different. In some cases the characters may say completely different things in the translation.
@@TheCodingGamer Oh interesting! I didn't know about that. I live in Japan so I'll be getting the Japanese version.
I just love how this game has something for everyone. New fan? You get to play the best one!
Old fan? You get to enjoy it again!
I played the demo but it didn't saved the progress, does anyone know why that would be?
Did you save at a church or campsite?

Nolan I believe there’s an auto save, yeah. I would load that up and then save manually.
Hopefully this becomes an update for the of version.
