11 Tips For Dragon Quest XI
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 сер 2024
- Dragon Quest XI is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC. Dragon Quest is a three-decade-old series of games that tend to take about 100 hours to complete. There's a lot of stuff in these games. It's understandable if Dragon Quest XI is your first one-there hasn't been a single-player home console entry in the series since Dragon Quest VIII on PlayStation 2 in 2004-and it's equally understandable if the ocean of stuff crammed into the game daunts or even terrifies you. Well, I've played all of these games about a billion times each, and I've got some little bits of advice. For example, I'll explain how you can pretty easily build a party of four dual-wielding physical attackers in order to maximize the odds of defeating Dragon Quest's notoriously slippery, infamously experience-pointy Metal Slimes super-early in the game.
Maybe this is the only tip you need, though: just chill with it. I played Dragon Quest XI over the course of a year, about a half an hour at a time, after taking a shower and before going to bed. I feel like Dragon Quests are the perfect games to play before bed. - Ігри
This guy sounds like I met him in a alley and I asked him for some marijuana and he started talking to me about a video game
"Sour. Sour. OG Kush.."
Lol XD
That makes no fucking sense
He ain’t a Narc that’s for sure.
"come back later and collect some HOT STUFF"
Another tip...kill every monster you see at least once... and hug the edges of the map...
Honestly, I want you to make more dragon quest videos.
Or any other review with him in it
Daryl Pang I had no idea who Tim Rogers was before, but then after seeing this, his DQXI review, and his video about the Chrono Trigger mobile port, I definitely want to hear more of him.
I want him to read stories to my unborn baby
Good thing ur saying it honestly and letting us know :) thanks!
This man deserves a raise. Like seriously how many people besides me saw the review and went and preordered the game the same day? I haven't played a dragon quest game since 8 and the review sold me on it in a heartbeat. I have been loving every second of the game so far
Jeffrey Thacker Tim made me pull the trigger. I had to rush to the store the night before release day just so i could get the preorder bonuses lmao
bitcrush! I did the same lol
It certainly nudged me towards it, but I already have other things to save for and I want to hold out for the Switch version that is said to be in the works.
I was on the fence untill I saw his review. As soon as I beat Spider-Man I'm getting this.
I did not need a review to know it was going to be good. But for sheeple like you, this review is amazing.
He does deserve a raise.
Metal slimes are easier when you unlock Erik's 'Critical Acclaim' skill. Another very important tip also involves Erik. He has a skill to steal items from enemies and it's very useful to apply that early on so you don't have to search for ingredients later when needing to craft.
I love watching people who passionates about their hobby
Listening*
Hobby? I'd probably consider this less a hobby and more a way of life, tbh.
I downloaded this yesterday and now I have 5 hrs in both 2 of 7 characters leverl 10 and It is so beautiful and addicting--
I may have to BUY IT with ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3 just these 2 games - in April I'll get more
Lol. This guy sounds like he is trying to tell you a really long secret while wearing a fedora and trenchcoat.
He should've started this vid with "hey kid, wanna buy a video game?"
I can hear him saying that lol
Don't know why this guy sounds like he should be driving a windowless can with a "free candy" sign on it.
@@l.walker7761 lol
Ohhhh soo he’s the creepy perv in my neighborhood w that creepy brown windowless van w plates that are well expired and from a different state. “Hey kid, you wanna play some dragon quest? I’ve got candy!” Lol
That description made Mr. X from re2 pop up in my head...
I spent almost a whole hour exploring the first major city XD the game is huge! Also I broke all dem pots! :D
that first big city straight up reminds me of the first big castle city from dark souls, with all its twisty rooms and passages all pretzelling around on themselves and popping you back out somewhere familiar, but all of it on a sort of micro scale. also cuz it's like a multi-tiered castle city with its particular districts. it's wonderful.
Heliodor is a big town
I'm still in the area in front of the city xD
Miss Multi-Console. Are you going to make videos when Dragon Quest builders 2 comes out?.
Yep but I think we have quite the wait :(
Tim Rogers original half-hour long review for this game was what convinced me to buy it, 80 hours later I completed it and the post-game content and it was the most enjoyable video game I've played in the last 8 years. I came here to just watch this video again because I miss it. I want nothing more than to erase this game from my memory and play it again without knowing anything
Square should join in the remaster bandwagon and release DQ8 for the PS4 next.
no! they should do a full remake of DQIII in the style of DQXI first!!
@@kotaku true.. most of my wet dreams involve remakes of DQ 3, 4 and 5 (and Chrono Trigger, while at it). I know this may sound a little extreme, but I'd literally murder for this to happen. Just tell me the name of the person you want dead, Square Enix.
@@kotaku i agree they should let level5 handle the remake since they did the original
nah dq8 got a lot of love on the 3ds release. it's even better than the ps2 original with new scenes, jessica romance option, red & morrie playable characters and no more random encounters. what they should focus on is remaking the older classics. or even just putting more work into the next main dq game since they take so long to make these main series entries yet always seem to be successful when they finally make one
Dragon quest 9 remake on the 3DS with streetpass functionality ( like for canvassing for guests) is what I believe deserves to happen next DQ 8 got its remake so let’s leave that world alone for a while
I was interested in getting into this series your excellent review made me buy it. Now I'm 10 hours in already and the game came out yesterday.
@@Patrick-bu2uh my collectors edition came on the first
I just got it around 6 hours ago and I'm already 3 hours into it. Great game so far
If you don't play it ten hours a day are you really playing it?
I'm obsessed with it got 30 hours clocked loool
@@obaydulchowdhury2804 yeah I'm 35h in to love it
Your review totally sold this game. Bought it at 10:00 am, flipped that box art and have loved every second so far. I feel like I may have died and went to heaven because between persona 5, ni no kuni and now dq11 I have been so spoiled on jrpgs.
I know that feeling. I've put around 150 hours into persona 5 (fusing personas takes up so much of that lol) ni no kuni 2 took a huge chunk to complete and now I just got DQ11 a few hours ago. It's like jrpg overload and I love every millisecond of it
Good job on flipping the artwork!
Cody Richardson Ni No Kuni 2 is garbage
Cozy play Dragon Quest 3 next. It's amazing. Especially if you take it in the context of "this game came out in 1989 holy shit."
Persona 5 is garbage
Me:not planning on buying till September for the switch port.
Also me: watching dragon quest tips to be fully prepared for September.
Me (update): playing the Demo and following these tips.
@@santiagorain6918 your comment made me realize the semi was out. So I downloaded it today . Thanks.
The exact same sentiment
You and me both. Started playing since yesterday. Love it so far!
Same. Got the demo and now that 11S is fully out, I play regularly.
thought i was increasing my odds of dodging if i ran around the enemy like an idiot during battle...
Omg I did that too!
Me too!
I still want that 1hr long video about battle systems that you promised
Still waiting...
I absolutely love your admiration for this series. It deserves more attention in the west, and it's nice seeing people buy the game just because your review convinced them to. Thanks Tim, keep up the great work.
I DID watch your 36 minute review and I DID decided "this is the Dragon Quest for me." The tips are appreciated.
OobleeDooblee ME TOO
6 months later, ME TOO
Just bought today!
It's called Dragon Quest: Echoes of an Illusive age, not Dragon Quest. If you really watched that review, you'd know..
i hadn't played dragon quest and wasn't subscribed to kotaku, this reviewer got me to do both.
He's the only good thing about kotaku
and how u liked it?
same here
That final tip before the end of the video is crucial!
Sorry I'll be the dumb one here but whats wrong with the U.S art? Is it because of spoilers?
It is more a matter of preference. The US box art is a CG render and the Japanese box has a cute Akira Toriyama drawing. I prefer the Toriyama art.
Oh I see. Thanks
Gonna flip it when it I buy it at the store.
I didn't even realize the box art was different till I went to get the dlc thing out cause I almost forgot about it. Soon as I saw the art I flipped it. It's gorgeous
Your excitement for this series is infectious, I'm playing the demo now and I have the full game on order 😂
Well Mr. Rogers, it was as much a pleasure listening to your review as actually playing many another game. Such a fun review, and now I'm definitely charmed by the DQ mystique. Love your neighborhood
Your review gave me the push I needed to buy my first dragons quest game. This. Thanks mate.
Totally love your style Tim, and your passion for Dragon Quest XI. I have watched the tips twice and probably worse the review (All 36 minutes) twice and I don’t own this game... yet, but I will. Thanks again for your great videos and keep up the awesome videos. Oh yeah, more DQXI videos would be great.
Thanks for the tips. I have a vague memory of playing a dragon quest game a very, very long time ago, but your review tipped me over the edge. Looking forward to seeing what's in store.
Sorry, im not going to play this game for an hour a day.
Im gonna play it 4 hours a day.
Another help for Tip #8: Metal Slash helps guarantee a hit and allows you to *maybe* get 2 dmg
Edit: Forgot to mention Erik can also get an ability that allows him to always crit and half the time he's faster than the slime you're hunting
i was excited for this game back when it was announced that it was being translated. your review of it was phenomenal and spot-on.
this is the best DQ game, and it puts up one hell of a fight for the title "best game on PS4." its so good.
This was the best ASMR i've heared so far. Very good, you did mention something about dragon quest which i couldn't make out though.
This narrator is the ONLY reason I subscribed to Kotaku. His breakdown on the "Found in Translations" for FFVII drew me in, his commitment to not having to cuss like someone who can't use words to express themselves, kept me. Bravo-Zulu from this Navy vet.
because theres so much cussing going on in official game journal videos... ya thats a thing... oh wait... no its not. he would be fired if he cussed in a video because its fucking kotaku.
also, people that cuss have a higher vocabulary than those who dont. proven fact. using swear words does not imply low vocabulary.

@@joshbrucks you do realize you prove my point, right? It triggered you so much because, I hit a nerve. Something that apparently you do and feel guilty for; ergo, you had to comment three times before you got one response from me.
@@mhopkins7954 you realize my point was your complimenting him on not cursing is like complimenting a teacher for not swearing at their class. you didnt hit a nerve you revealed stupidity.
When I first started playing this game I knew nothing about it and I didn't get the story and didn't think it was that fun but the more I played it it all started to come together and it has slowly become one of my favorite games ever. I've beaten it once and I immediately started all over again enjoying every minute of it 😊
When does the story start picking up?
Thank you so much! I watched your review, and it assured me that I was right in pre-ordering the game. And these tips are very helpful reminders since it's been quite some time since I played a console DQ that wasn't Heroes.
I love this review. Comedic and informative with brilliant pacing.
That was the first thing I noticed when opening my copy. Immediately flipped that around! Love the Japanese box art. 🤘😎🔥
This guy needs to become the new face of Kotaku, I'd start watching more videos
Loved the box art tip, thank you!! I'll do this when my copy arrive
I truly love this man and his reviews/tip videos. Thank you so much for sharing ♥️🗡🐲📺
When you see something blue and shiny: 'This might be a good place to find some ingredients'
Ok so here are some of tips I have only playing this game in the series and being new to it
1) Rest at every campsite/Inn as this unlocks the location for your Zoom spell and trust me you will be backtracking if your wanna complete quests
2) Dont worry about allocating skill points incorrectly as you can reset them from any save point and you may want to do this is your going to grind vs story battles (ie some weapons like whips and boomerangs are awesome for grinding but are terrible against bosses)
3) Check not just pots but bookshelves as they contain recipe books
4) While you can buy Items from the Weapon/Armor shops its not really needed as you will eventually learn how to make those items and the improved versions you can make are far better, instead save your money for purchasing components
5) Pay Attention to equipment effects instead of simply just the equipments stats, for instance the Falcon blade while being weaker attacks twice per attack which is alot more damage than a stronger weapon
6) Set your battle speed to fast it makes grinding take alot less time
7) While you dont need to massively "grind" do fight every enemy you encounter to keep on par with levels
8) Critical hits bypass metal slimes defense are will instantly kill them, use skills such as light lightning thrust or hatchet man to inflict crits and one shot metal slimes, also characters not in the active party gain exp so dont worry about having to switch in off hand party members to gain levels
9) Charm is a stat that can sometimes make enemies become infatuated with your characters and isnt that useful except for a certain rather flamboyant performer whos best attacks are based off of it
Woke up this morning, watched playstation access, based on robs recommendation on todays video, watched your review, ordered my copy for pick up from best buys. :D
Tim, you make the best videos on this channel. I wish you reviewed most games on kotaku.
Thanks for being informative and entertaining.
This guy again xD in for a treat
After review video I came here too quickly when I see. And I decided to buy this game. Thanks to Tim. I hope he make more content about jrpgs.
Great video man. Done really well. Haven't played a dq game since dq4 chapters of the chosen one, and this game gives the series a refreshing take on the classics
I am finally playing DQ11 and I reckon Tim is about 70% of why I finally picked it up. His passion is infectious, add the overwhelming positive reviews and boom.
I typically call Tip #2 the 'Legend of Zelda' method.
And it applies to any game that has a breakable pot.
The switch version just has the japanese art.its like nintendo knew.
Your reviews are the highlight of UA-cam. Congrats
just ordered this game based on your very insightful review.
I am so excited. These tips are going to be helpful.
Uh? "Don't binge through it" Well EXCUSE me! See here, you recently made me buy this game, and I haven't regretted it for a second, and I will binge this game for many hours at a time.
Just started this one. I have been walking around grinding for levels and having Erik steal stuff.
Enjoy your videos. You remind me of a gumshoe PI thats actually in the game observing whats going on. Love it.
Amazing buddy! I loved this video ! Thankyou
That man is literally a saviour, where can I pray to him? I wanna go into a church and say my thanks...
You should make a review of each dragon quest.
Agreed. Starting with VII, then IX then VIII.
X can piss right off.
I love Dragon Quest and your videos are great! Please keep making them!
Ok I love these tips, gonna be so helpful. I just started playing and was worried I had to grind. But I haven't added anyone to my party yet. So I'll wait, as you said.
i had a lot of trouble with the “walk on the wild side” quest, and i’m sure others have too. but i figured it out today. wait until you have all of the party members and start to get each of the characters (hero erik and selena) in pepped state one at a time. when one of them gets pepped up put them in your reserve and pull another party member out. even when they’re in the reserves they’ll keep the pepped up state. so once they’re all pepped up you can pull them all out and go kill the monster and finish it up. what a pain
I imagine Tim sitting back with a glass of sake while explaining this.
Bro ur videos are great!
Are u thinkin about making a video about characters skills and items build?
I got this game because of your review and I'm loving it so far , thank you
The voice audio was mixed waaaaaay too low.
acquire ears that work
Any tips on how to figure out Erik's accent? I like Erik, but he sounds like someone from the UK speaking American English trying to sound like he is from New York.
he has a new england accent (think boston), almost a mid-atlantic accent which would kind of make sense considering most of the characters have british accents. The mid-atlantic accent being a mix between new england and british (30s-40s old-timey accent you saw in movies).
I will have to tell my husband I was right lol ^^
The voice actor is in fact British and it sounds like he's trying to do a New York accent lol
He definitely does NOT have a New England accent.
This is true. I forget which, but one cutscene near the end of the game he doesn't cover it very well. To the point that made me wonder why that line was kept.
so excited to get the game. this is just everything i needed. i really appreciate more dragon quest xi content from you. oh and can i call you dragon quest guy ? :)
Okay i am getting this , i have never heard of this series but goddamn you’ve convinced me , you are a great promoter for this game
That is exactly how I played Breath of the Wild. I’ve only now reached the castle! March 2017 - September 2018 = 120 hours 👌👑🌙🛌💤
"boot it up, buddy"
I am sooo new to your channel and i gotta say i am permanently in love with your commentary way of speaking
Subscribing now🌹
Well, he sold me. I watched all of his video reviews on this game and this video. I’m downloading the demo right now and will buy the game with my next paycheck. Thank you, Tim!
Bro ur the best ever lived but either talk louder or turn the Buster Keaton OST down. Much love
I have my volume pumped all the way and I can barely hear you.
Get better ears.
Whenever he does an aside to make a minor point or tip he strings his words together and lowers his voice below the sound of the background music. I’m wearing noise cancelling headphones and am still missing a bunch. “Getting better ears” isn’t an option, we have the ones we’re born with.
Weird how I can understand everything he's saying without fancy headphones
It’s not weird at all. I am hearing impaired. You like most people are not.
@@huffmyshorts that is a comment from a kid or a stupid ass
This guy is cool. Loving Dragon Quest XI so far and im definitely going to 100% it (which i never do with games) never really been to into Dragon Quest but now i want to play all of them
Great video! Subscribed!
I'm a simple man, I hear Tim Rogers I click like button brah
Brah?
DQXI is my goty. I really hope it sells as well as it should so we can get more DQ games to the West. I'll buy them all SE!!!
Confirmed to be the best selling western released DQ game since Dragon Warrior. Around 800,000 units as of November
These videos are really a double edged sword for new players. I never ever played a dragon quest game before may of this year. I was like "Oh I heard some good things about this game, let me get it." not having seen any gameplay any trailer at all. This made the game so much more fun for me. If you watch this now I feel like you are missing out on a lot of the confusion of not knowing the story or who your partners are going to be. Still great video though and I still rewatch your review now and then :)
I know this vid is kind of old but the red bookshelf is a very handy tip and I loved your outro
Is that movie trailer voice tone one you use in real life or just in videos?
Man I really don't like Kotaku but I do like this guy. Then again I really like Dragon Quest so maybe I'm skewed. Good job anyways.
Well i'm not a DQ fan, but I agree.
Man... You're just the best. Thank you.
bought it on the first day of release after watching your vid. Thanks bro!
dang dude i have my volume maxed out and can barely hear you
acquire ears that work
the sound is too low
As long as you keep making videos, I'll keep watching them.
This is truly and awesome video. I feel the love man. I’m sure loving this game!
I am a 30 year dq lover and your reviews and videos have me soooooooooo stoked for this game
I love Tim Rogers... I love dragon quest too... but mostly I just love Tim Rogers.
It's so great this game has been released for pc. I haven't bought a console since the ps2 in 01 so I was able to enjoy DQ8. That game was super fun and had a great amount of things to do. Dragon Quest is such a great franchise and I will be very happy to be able to visit this world again
I love your reviews and your voice ! My brother is a big dragon quest fan. And now I kind of am too! I hope kotaku have you make more dragon quest related video!
Some more standard Dragon Quest tips:
- Save often and keep money in the bank so you don't lose it if your party gets wiped out.
- Talk to NPCs during the day and during the night. A lot of them will have different dialogue.
- Every time you get a new kind of key, go back to older areas and re-explore. Unless you keep track of them, it's easy to forget every locked door you come across.
- Always check wells.
- At least one of the slot machines in the casino is usually forgiving enough that if you start with enough coins, you're unlikely to lose everything and you will eventually hit a jackpot.
- Don't discard or sell anything unless you absolutely have to. Seemingly useless items or gear can sometimes come in handy for side quests, crafting, etc.
- Revisit towns from time to time and talk to NPCs. You won't get crucial information this way or anything like that, but it's fun to check in as these characters will often have something new to say later on that adds depth to the game.
sony/squareenix should pay tim a good chunk of money cuz i'm pretty sure his videos alone have sold about 30000 copies of this game
Great tips, I have seen your other 35 minute video, very interesting
About grinding, you could use a method that involves pep, you can use hallelujah to increase exp earned and electro light to spawn metal slimes of any sort depending on your party's current average level
you only play half hour of a jrpg??? what sorcery is this show ME!
The older dragon quest games were pretty simple. You can beat the first 3 games in like a day if you know what you're doing.
@@Gunplabro I don't know, DQ3 is pretty epicly long. Like, the "final boss" is actually a head fake for the entire second half of the game long.
DQ1 and 2 are pretty short though.
3 isn't that long if you know what you're doing.
If I start playing Dragon Quest 11 the shortest I can play is 10 hours.
Interestingly, I'm watching this on my crappy little phone and I can hear him just fine. But it is quite on my laptop.
Great video, I hope to see more by you
Admittedly this video told me everything I already knew, however also as somebody who's played every Dragon Quest a number of times? That's probably why. Still, enjoyed watching!
Can you like... record yourself reading all my books please? You have the best voice lol
Ugh can we get a mic raise? I felt like I was listening to someone do an ASMR video
thats the best part
This is the essence of Wonderboy Timmy Rogers. Embrace it.
Agreed. I love this content, but either fully subtitle these videos or talk into the microphone properly.. Seriously, If I didn't REALLY like Tim's work (DQ11 review was great), no way in hell would I watch videos with such poor audio.
Lol asmr came to my mind too
Don't be entitled. You can leave Tim's video's because they have poor audio, and head to a channel that has poor understanding, poor charisma, poor jokes, and poor effort. Even with the poor audio the quality of this upload is miles above most content. If you want to be OCD about the audio and demand changes or you'll leave it is honestly your loss.
I loved your dragon quest reveiw so much i want to watch it again tonight to see ifni missed anything
So glad I watched this. I’m not a newbie to jrpgs but this is my first dragon quest game. I’m actually happy that I got it because my life is so busy at the moment it’s the perfect game before I go to sleep.
