Ben is a scholar. Like, it's clear he does real REAL research on this stuff, and tries to present it in a clippable, ticktockable way to reach out to the most people who have the attention span of a goldfish. I think he's doing an amazing job.
Agreed. I saw a video a couple of days ago that stated MS passing old Jim Crow laws and the whole state was made to segregate which is not true. What happened was actually exactly what Ben said happened. They created a second court system strictly for the Jackson area because the current court system is backlogged. While this is supposed to help alleviate that backlog why appoint judges when all other judges everywhere are voted on? Make it make sense…
Even though ben plays all the parts, mother nature smiling while the fan was on looks like Florida with a wig
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just Florida in a wig pretending to be mother nature and he did that just to cause some chaos and not get in trouble for it
I came to the comments to say this lol.
Nono - Florida is stealing her drip, is all!
Those 2 are probably ex's
It's the mannerisms.
The sneaky, mischievous nature of Mother Nature is echoed in Florida as well.
Also the way she looks for, and finds the fan remote.
Takes talent to cover some legitimately terrifying subject matter about our own country in a way that's still pretty funny, 10/10 Ben
At first I laughed… I stopped laughing at some point and just started doom spiraling and most of these laws/proposed laws wouldn’t even effect me. But they effect people I care about and I’m going to continue to stand with them.
@@wildhunter939 It's worse, because some day they could affect us. For now they're targeting the gays, but soon they might turn on some of us too.
I was always just in the state of “What the fuck. This is heinous bullshit, what the hell man!” throughout the video. Ben is right, this is fucked up.
Man, Utah could have come back with their bill that allowed tax dollars to pay for private school tuition, while not holding them to state or federal education standards, and allows them to openly discriminate, based on whatever the school wants to from wealth level, to ethnicity, to religion, to sexuality, to determine who can attend. All while cutting funding to public education. That would have put them back on theme.
We also had that bill that eliminated diversity, equity and inclusion and all utah universities but that one thankfully failed.
I like to call Utah, “The Mountain West of the Deep South.”
Iowa just passed those too, with no income limits. 7,160 per student is pulled out of the public schools and given to non-publics for each student. There's legislation to keep the State Auditor from seeing any documentation that the state agencies don't want to show him, AND Iowa's also passing anti-trans legislation like they're getting bigotry bonuses. I hate it here.
Or the fact that they spent more time discussing the flag than on the making cougar hunting easy and legal
Arkansas has that as well.
This is the first one of these videos that has actually made me physically ill. Hearing the characters talk about the horrible things that they’re doing as states like it is an accomplishment is truly horrifying.
It’s an amazing think watching states come together to destroy something that shouldn’t exist! God bless America!
Luckily, from Ben this is dire satire, but some folks out there seem to think this is good, because the gov't says it is...
@Vendel Kjeldsberg and it's sad that these people are Okay with it because it's the not federal government. It's their own states. The hypocrisy of people is terrifying.
Yeah this… sickened me. Been getting that happening a lot more often lately from the news… not a pleasant feeling
It made me extremely sick too
"Do you get it yet? Do you?"

It's bad even in states that are hard blue leaning. I'm in CT and we widely consider ourselves a 'sanctuary state' with lots and lots of legislation on the books protecting trans & gay people as well as reproductive rights. But every other day I hear or see or experience discrimination, violence, and hatred. If we're not even safe in those states that /have/ laws on the books protecting us, we aren't safe anywhere.
It's these kinds of relentless small changes that make it feel so suffocating to live in a red state.
Anyone got any ideas on what we should do? Because We need to do something, and my first inclination is to run away to somewhere safer, but that won't work. Those places we run to can change into this as well if you don't fight back. Not to mention we deserve to be able to live in our home state if we want to and not be considered one of the undesirables that get snuffed out. and the idea of running away--as a Texan--leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I want to fight, just don't know how...
maybe we can get together and start doing massive work strikes everywhere until our demands are met.
I wish there was something we could do, but all of the channels we citizens have to influence the government are either blatantly rigged or only to serve the purpose of giving false hope. I bet you the reason someone like Bernie Sanders, someone who can cause real change will never be elected is because companies don't want him in office.

The entirety of America’s government is screwed up and by the next election when I can vote it will only be worse. Thanks USA for being so free and absolutely screwing us over 🇺🇸
I guarantee if we could peel back a few more layers we would see trillions of dollars "loaned" to pro business politicians, in exchange for funding whatever laws they want to push through. Unfortunately those pro business politicians are also radically anti-everything except straight white males.
It's criminal that you only ~800k subscribers. Every. Single. Person. in the USA. NEEDS. to see this.
It makes me so sad to see them passing these bills, and also to know I don't want to go to these places :(
Like I'm sure the people are fine but the people in charge aren't :/
I'm laughing and crying. This is so sad
too bad you didn't wait a few days. you could have had AR rolling back child labor laws.
TO THE MINES, CHILDREN
😳i have ancestors that fought in World War 2. i've read about the Holocaust. and i've read up on other mass genocides and the places that back them and how they got that way.
i am well and truly scared here people. how can we be so stupid as to not see what's going on Here and Now when we've seen *_So Many_* examples of it in the past??!
Exactly. I've pointed this out to multiple people and all of them say that America wouldn't stoop that low. Michael Knowles openly stated that trans people needed to eradicated from public life and claimed that it wouldn't be genocide because being trans has nothing to do with a person's genes, yet they still don't see it. They claim he was talking about the "ideology". They tell me that genocide is the mass killing of a nationality not a "belief". How can they not see that this is similar to what happened in the 1930s? Haven't we learned this lesson already? If you ignore the warning signs they won't stay warning signs for long.
As someone from an extreme opposite State, they propose just as many laws forcing agendas and propping up power bases just the same.
you get it yet Silly when they said free United States of America. They didn't mean free like money or freedom. They meant free to do whatever "they" wanted. They being the government
Thank you for caring enough about us to make this content.
Thank you for continuing to educate us 🥺
I still question about the governor's decision about the bill about content creators and blogger...and I work as both...oh boy.
Relax my friend, you'll be fine, it doesn't restrict you in any way and you're only required to register if you're being paid to write an article about Florida politicians, key word is paid to do so, even if disney paid you to write a hit piece on desantis basically all you are required to do is put down in that registry that they paid you for that article, i dont think it applies if you just make money on adds and it definitely doesn't apply to hobby bloggers
@@kiyosenl.3889 Do you even live in Florida? I’m not sure you even know what it might feel like to see this kind of stuff happen to the state you were born in and loved
eh, reading through it. it’s definitely out there but it’s not banning free speech. if you’re writing about desantis just on your personal blog, you’re still fine.
if you’re being paid to write something, you need to prove who paid you. which obviously leads down some bad rabbit holes.
it also doesn’t apply to major publications like newspapers. so really it’s more of a bad symbol than anything else.
Im amazed you managed to fit SO MUCH FREEDOM ... in under 5min O_o
Something to tell everyone about banned marriages, getting married where it's allowed still means it's not a crime, since states have to recognize all others states marriages and other similar legal activites.
That means that child marriage is legal everywhere in the US, right? Or rather, have to be recognized everywhere.
That's f-d up.
Victor, unfortunately child marriage is legal in lots of the US, even states that ban it still have ways to make exceptions. Almost like if these people actually cared about kids they’d go after that🤦♂️
@@nicholaslewis8594 Oh they have shown their care for everybody that can't vote which includes kids and anyone else they can disenfranchise.
Did you catch the Colorado Supreme Court decision that even if a police officer says you're under arrest you're not under arrest enough to be read your Miranda rights
"Do you get it yet?! Do you?" perfect
Utah has been a blue state my whole life, but it is gerrymandered into acting as a red state. However recent events and the aging up of younger generations has significantly increased Dem voters to the point they are having a difficult time hiding it now.
Ben I know you said that wasn't all of it but I think I need more of it. I'm about to dive down a rabbit hole of things that I'm going to have a hard time reading and these videos have a great way of breaking up the monotony with comedy. Thank you for what you do truly
Why would colleges still be using CRTs? A more modern TV would be better for most tasks.
Florida’s been defunding education anyways, you think that they can afford an LCD 1080p TV?
@@shardtheduraludon oh just get a 720i one then.
It's one of those rare moments when I appreciate my country's politicians being too busy arguing whether or not it's appropriate to make fun of a pope to do anything actually harmful
And we didn't even touch the board now in charge of that was Disney county in FL
Yes…been terrified since I realized I was trans as a Texan teen 10 years ago. Moved to NM. The original plan that I came up with when I was 16 was to move to Canada-might still be the plan if I had the money and a way to achieve the other things needed to get enough points to qualify. Things have gotten a lot scarier in recent years too. I hope one day I and all my fellow trans siblings can stop running.
A lot of americans do qualify for different European passports (I think Ireland and Italy are the easiest ones) if you have european ancecstry, even far back. Might be worth looking into, if you have a Schengen (EU, basicly) passport, you can live and work in almost all western and central Europan countries (Except the UK, witch for an american would have been the easiest probably, culturally).
An english speaker wont have problems getting a job and find a life in Scandinavia or The Netherlands, almost everyone here speaks English. Or Malta, if you like your weather y'know, not depressing. Southern Spain also have a lot of english speaking retirees (it's like our Florida, where old people go to die, but with very progressive politics. Like, really, really progressive), but employment might be a bit harder there since Spain have had some problems for some time now with their economy.
@@victorcapel2755I will say, Italy isn't actually all that easy. Easy in the sense that all you need is an ancestor who never renounced their citizenship, yes, but in order to prove that, you need census records from that ancestor proving they were still an Italian citizen, signed papers from the living parents/grandparents/great-grandparents who connect you to said relative confirming they never renounced Italian citizenship (which isn't necessarily easy when being trans can easily get you shunned by them), letters written in Italian, and then an appointment at the consulate to hand it all in. As someone who has that Italian citizenship, yeah, it's a blessing and a ticket to Europe, but it's not exactly easy. And don't forget that Italy only just allowed you to change your gender marker on said passport, and even then, you'll generally need to have gotten HRT/surgeries first. Oh, and they don't even let married women put their married names on their passports, it needs to be their maiden names, so while I've never tried it myself, I can't imagine it's easy to get your chosen name on your passport as a trans Italian. So no, it's really not all that easy. And again, all this relies on you being lucky enough to have had a great-grandparent who never became a US citizen, because back in the day you had to renounce your Italian citizenship if you wanted to legally be an American
@@margaretmadole
Ok, I wasn't sure about the exact procedure, just know that quite a few americans I watch on YT have gone through the process (mostly football players that wanted to continue playing after collage but wasn't good enough for pro in the US, so they're playing semi-pro in Europe now). Thanks for explaining it so well.
About the name in the passport, I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I'd imagine that the main thing is to be able to live in country/part of country that doesn't openly and activly tries to oppress you, not what name you have in your passport. Thought I understand that it matters as well, as a recognizion.
Italy might not be the best place in the world to do that (not the worst either, but it's more traditional than northern europe and way more conservative than say Spain or Greece), but since an EU passport opens up the continent to you, you can chose to go elsewhere. If you're at a working age and doesn't speak Italian, you'd want to do that anyway.
Add in TN's new bill to allow officials to deny marriages to gay or interracial marriages and it gets even worse. If it wasn't real I would laugh.
I like the "governor redacted" label, has that "he that shall not be named" vibe.
I've sometimes referred to him by the code name "Rhonda"
I’m gonna do some research 🧐
Love ya Ben, This was hard to watch, I know it's all real I've been following I cried 3 times in your 4 minute video. I just don't know what to do anymore.
Baby. God bless America!
Somehow these skits make the news much more palatable. The humor makes it all feel so much less hopeless.
