California when making average wages in the urban areas sucks. All of the cost of living and congestion subtracts heavily from the weather and amenities. That said, the best of California is outside of the metros. Sequoias, Redwoods, Mt Shasta, Lost Coast, Sierras is peak and prime California. So if you can work remotely and live near excellent places, CA is prime. Oregon has the advantage of being less populated and cheaper than CA and WA. The provincial attitude is very disappointing. Extra points for Crater Lake, the coast, and the Blue Mountains.
This is awesome because I spent most of last year going all over to obscure places just like Canon Beach. I agree with mostly everything I've heard. I have only been up on the mountain part of Pittsburgh and never to Columbus or Orlando so you got me curious about those. Wawa > Sheetz.
Traveler in the medical field currently in Tacoma WA. Pretty sure 90 percent of the people I meet say they’d rather live on a Starfield wasteland planet then go to Portland.
Finn please come to the Tampa Bay Area! You’ll hate Orlando if you visit the gulf coast of Florida. Traffic is much better and we have Busch Gardens which is way more affordable and less crowded than Disney. Also the panhandle is absolutely beautiful if you just want to sit on a beach, eat oysters, and get away from it all. Unfortunately you are correct about the prices. St Pete is my hometown and I can’t believe how expensive and over developed it’s gotten here. The Californians and New Yorkers keep bidding up all the houses and condos to where the locals can’t afford it anymore.
Yes thats the thing. NYC conversations are ALWAYS the same. 99% of the general population hates it but 1% wants that specific setup in a city and there isn't enough room. NYC(Manhattan) is a small area that no where in the world really duplicates it and it only appeals to a very tiny percentage of people.
Yeah, not saying Finn is doing this, but sad to see so many left wing personalities and media figures smear Florida while literally everyone is dying to move there
As West Virginian, you're not wrong most people I know left or are not living their best lives. I left 8 years ago and theres not any amount of money in the world to get me to move back ever.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn and honestly I agree with you about NY which is why I left for Florida days after turning 18. I will say there are some spots in upstate that are beautiful such as Ithaca and the Adirondacks, but it’s too cold even in the summer at least when it’s not midday. Edit: just got to the Florida part, you have to go to key west if you want to see something truly amazing but it is overpriced. I’d rather live here than anywhere else though despite the price. Broward county, Naples, some areas near Tampa and also the springs are nice too!!
Cali native, our progressive government sucks ass and I hate tech bro/influencer hype beast culture that dictates Bay Area\LA life. If you get away from those things/places there’s some wonderful spots. San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, Mendocino, Chico, Eureka, Redding, Tahoe, Shasta, and Yosemite are all excellent. Keep the pre tech boom free spirit skater spirit alive ✌️🤙
I'm North Dakotan. Cost of living is low. Good paying jobs are plentiful. People are super friendly. Only downside is that it's so far away from any major city and pretty secluded. I totally understand why you'd see it as a "wasteland" at face value tho.
Finn, I'm a lifelong New Jersey resident and property takes, mortgage hikes, etc have basically caused 90% of my Wife & I's friends to move to Florida. Not to mention, an indept Governor, so I must have my home State towards the bottom. On a very side note, if you have ever been here or nearby PA, have you tried Wawa? Like Sheetz but been around longer.
I agree about Florida. I drive to Tally plenty of occasions, and love the atmosphere, people, and places there. Went to Tampa and St. Petersburg for the first time last month. Very beautiful ocean areas, and the people are interesting to say the least 😅
As someone born in Tampa, I've always seen Orlando as bland. Also, I'm not into death metal, but I know Tampa is somewhat of a death metal Mecca. If you're in a death metal band and haven't spent 5 years there, it's like, "What are you doing? Do you even take your death-metalness seriously?"
Tysm for defending Jersey you were spot on. Every rich kid in college loves to call it a shit state and act like they're above it all. I've lived in south near philly my whole life and can't really complain. It's a quiet generic suburb and it's mine 😊
Yeah… it’s a shame, SF used to be one of my favorite cities in the world. Shame to see what it’s become in the last 10 years (or more). Also, the lack of housing and ridiculous price of living make Cali not an S to me either. I might put it in B. Nevada City, Ca where I live, is one of the coolest towns I’ve ever been though.
I live on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, and I am shocked that you mentioned us, especially positively. That said, Pennsylvania is interesting, for sure. Western PA is pretty comfy, but it can get a little odd in other parts of the state. The rural Trump zones, especially 😂
The worst thing about Portland is that it isn't really even cheaper than Seattle anymore. My brother recently actually moved back to Seattle because rent was generally the same if not slightly cheaper, depending on what you're looking for obviously. And I can see why, all things being equal, people would rather live in Seattle.
Seattle has way more going on than Portland - better scenery, more things to do, more pop culture history - but the downside is it’s bigger and more crowded.
New York City is definitely NOT the best part of NY State. That would be the Adirondacks. Also, grew up around Albany and spent two years in Buffalo.
Mt Shasta beautiful place
Don't fuck with Jersey Finn. We have the BEST hardcore punk music scene.
Jersey unite!
It's a Jersey thing
Hahahaa.
As a NYer, it’s hard to compete with MCR, Thursday, Bouncing Souls, Streetlight, Gaslight, etc, but NY takes the crown for rappers lol
This is awesome because I spent most of last year going all over to obscure places just like Canon Beach. I agree with mostly everything I've heard. I have only been up on the mountain part of Pittsburgh and never to Columbus or Orlando so you got me curious about those. Wawa > Sheetz.
I like how you left out the entire eastern part of Washington, which is a desert, for anyone who doesn't know. It's literally half the state.
More than half!
I was starving, thanks Finnjamin!
Cali use to be my dream state to live, but nowadays it's Arizona.
Honestly same
I too love being unable to be outside half the year for fear of dying of heatstroke
Traveler in the medical field currently in Tacoma WA. Pretty sure 90 percent of the people I meet say they’d rather live on a Starfield wasteland planet then go to Portland.
Texas is the Walmart super center and Oklahoma is the Walmart neighborhood market
we got Bucc-ees now so we are moving away from Walmart and shopping at Beaver owned gas stations now
Leads off with a banger.
Yinzers represent. Migrate back to Pittsbutgh, Finn, and we'll have a BBQ and talk stereotypes
The Californians and New Yorkers keep bidding up all the houses and condos to where the locals can’t afford it anymore.
as someone who voluntarily chose to move to NYC, you really have to WANT to live here if you want to move out here
Yes thats the thing. NYC conversations are ALWAYS the same. 99% of the general population hates it but 1% wants that specific setup in a city and there isn't enough room.
NYC(Manhattan) is a small area that no where in the world really duplicates it and it only appeals to a very tiny percentage of people.
i lived in florida for a few months in '08. gulf coast, bradenton, just south of tampa bay. it was fine.
Downtown Newark is pretty nice these days. Gentrification hit Newark pretty hard
11:20 I took a literal shit on Cannon Beach at 1am. It was an emergency, not some kinda artistic/political statement.
Love the Washington pride bro!!!
6:39 That's my home state too. However, I have lived in Utah for most of my life.
North Dakota is extremely productive between agriculture and oil.
Minot, Bismarck, Fargo ND had a punk/hardcore scene. Made me who I am.
So happy about Pittsburgh getting love. One of the most beautiful skylines in the US
Cali native, our progressive government sucks ass and I hate tech bro/influencer hype beast culture that dictates Bay Area\LA life.
I lived in Astoria, Oregon for about a year and met some of the nicest, most down to earth people. I miss the Oregon Coast a lot.
Try Buffalo now. Its vastly improved. Tons of culture and they have spent a lot to build up downtown.
I agree about Florida. I drive to Tally plenty of occasions, and love the atmosphere, people, and places there.
Went to Tampa and St. Petersburg for the first time last month. Very beautiful ocean areas, and the people are interesting to say the least 😅
I’m from gray’s harbor/hoquiam!!!! Washington is the most beautiful state in the country
That’s you’re masterpiece, Finn!
West Palm Beach checking in, way to expensive now a days. Waiting for my son to graduate high school then we're out.
I am mentally preparing for an onslaught of insults for South Carolina. I'll stay subbed no matter how brutal, lol.
A New York City Rock Star Asking "How You Doing?" Or "You Talking To Me"
As someone born in Tampa, I've always seen Orlando as bland.
It's a quiet generic suburb and it's mine 😊
lived in nj since i was 12 im 42 still here i love it ive lived in gloucester county and camden county.
PA guy here from another shithole (Reading), your assessment is spot on.
Lived in CA my whole life. Admitting one of its most important cities sucks (it does) should immediately take it from S tier (I'd put it C)
The rural Trump zones, especially 😂
lmfao im from newark and the whole jersey portion was hilarious to me
The worst thing about Portland is that it isn't really even cheaper than Seattle anymore.
Good tier list
New York City is definitely NOT the best part of NY State. That would be the Adirondacks.
Also, grew up around Albany and spent two years in Buffalo. Honestly enjoyed my time in Buffalo, especially in the summertime with Niagara Falls and Lake Erie being at your doorstep. Great music scene in both cities too
Upstate NYer here. I can tell ya there is alot of beauty here.
You speedran ohio and lived in all 3 C's?! Very honored to have you still alive after all those tours of duty🫡
Erie Pennsylvania here!
We're the part of PA that has beaches and pepperoni balls.
