Also know that bullion gold front, back and sides was a standard finish on the 90's and 91 Classics. The 30th anniversary Les Paul that was issued in 1991 was actually the three pickup SG style and were done in the TV yellow colour. The Les Paul 30th Anniversary Gold Tops were issued in 1982. And the Gibson Custom Shop would not be in operation for another two years yet. Don't forget the refret either.
I always wonder how many of the folks drooling over the sound of this and other LP Classics also like to bash ceramic pickups at the same time... the 496R/500T in these (and my '91 StudioLite) are wicked fun.
Beautiful guitar, I've never owned something like that color but I wonder if it requires a lot of maintenance in order to prevent the paint from wearing off? Is gold more susceptible to fading?
Good question, but I don’t think so! It has held up really well after 30 years and I didn’t need to take any real special precautions. It has a nitro finish which ages a certain way, leading to some finish checking and wear for sure though

I have a 1998 Les Paul Classic Goldtop. Almost the same as this, except that the back and neck are not gold, but the mahogany colour, though not too dark. Love the super hot ceramic pickups, 500T and 490R, and the 1960 slim taper neck profile. It sounds great through a Hot Rod Fender Deville, as well as my JCM 2000 Marshall 50 watt head. Beautiful clean tones and excellent classic rock or blues ones as well.

This is a ‘91, not ‘90. The 1 that starts the serial number is the year.
