Excellent reaction, loving your enthusiasm and appreciation of all thing BABYMETAL.
This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su was 17, Yui and Moa only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert as the crowd were in sections. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, I think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was also the end of a 90 minute concert and yes, they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world.
About the song itself. 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, I'm not sure the translation really works so well to convey what it is really about, but it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version.

Dragon Force's Herman Li worked with Babymetal to create it, and it definitely shows! He had stated working with BM was one of the smoothest projects he ever worked on too~
I love when reactors who are new with BM get to this vid if they didnt start with it, as its always a treat. For most of us having seen/listened to it literally hundreds of times we get to watch it for the first time again through the reactor (you)!~ Don't think you got to it yet, but def add "BABYMETAL - Death Legend 1997 (Live)" to your watch list if you have yet to do so.

It makes me smile that you get it. There are many bands form Japan that I’m absolutely in love with. However, Babymetal is my personal favorite and they’re only getting better! Definitely unlike any other group on the planet. I love their theatrics, crowd interaction and versatility. They don’t perform concerts, only shows. If that isn’t a readers thing, than great, but it is mine.

Su turned 17 only three weeks before this show took place. This concert's name is New Year Fox Festival 2015 (Legend 2015), very fitting by the way. And this was the last encore from that show. 90+ minutes performed with this level of energy, it's crazy. And yeah, you have many reasons to enjoy this one since it's usually considered epic.
As you noticed Su is an incredible front woman and it's cool when reactors notice her bringing the crowd's chants back in tempo before the drums get back in. All of them have a click track in their IEM so they get cues and don't get lost. Sometimes, the IEM have failed (it happens) but then, they show their ultra professional skills.
Well, it's a matter of personal preferences but although I love this song, I believe they have even better. And this is probably one of them: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html

Thanks so much for the spot-on reaction! Thanks for not only focusing on the excellent band, but seeing that it stands in contrast to Su-Metal's excellent vocals! That's the biggest chemical reaction and the one and only thing that separates BABYMETAL from other bands. For them to have three seriously talented girls as frontmen is a fortuitous thing for the rock genre and a blessing for all music.
Incidentally, Su-Metal said that when they first started out, they said they would do the growls themselves, but the producer did his best to stop them.🤣🤣🤣 If he did that, he would have broken his throat.😇

The girls are easy to tell apart. With few exceptions in early days:
Su-metal - high pony tail, tallest, usually in center, lethal death stare, the sempai
Yuimetal - chubby cheeks, black hair, best dancer, arm/hand adornment (glove or sleeve) on right hand. Soul-searching eyes (last performed in 2017)
Moametal - dimples, brown hair, mischievous antics, big heart-stealing smile, bouncy left leg and shortest (153cm/5ft). Scary deadly ninja if you disrespect her queen (only her mother is scarier when mad)
Avengers - support dancers - different hairstyles except twin tails

Thanks for this reaction. Babymetal is assault to the senses. Both for the ears and chest (live) and for the eyes as well. With pyro and the dancing is fire as well. 🙂
We can't hide the Dragonforce. It's true, it's a collab with the guitarists of Dragonforce.
Funny part is, their used to be more guitar playing in the song, but it was not released before the first performance. And the first performance was at a venue which had a lot of reverb which would have meant that during the wowow part it would have been to much. And thus their is no big guitars during that part.
Su-metal was 17 at this show, her birthday was just a few months before. Yuimetal and Moametal were 15. Some 4 months until they would turn 16. An other interesting detail: the crowd follows the girls to a tee, this was just the 3rd time this song was performed and their was no release of it yet. So not everyone could have known what to do. But the choreography helps make things predictable for the audience. Having some at the show to lead the others because they already know from an other show also helps. And Yuimetal and Moametal also are literally cheerleading... showing what the crowd is suggest to do.
The ones you watched before, the venue was some 9000 fans. (Budokan an other common show for Babymetal reactions is about 12 000). This show was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) which is 20 000 fans. And Tokyo Dome was 55 000 (!).
The unclean vocals are studio and thus backing track. They are hardly ever credited.
20:07 they are saying: "We are ?! Babymetal !" It's a nod to an other great band from Japan: X-Japan, who did something similar at their shows: "We are ? X !"
Imagine reaching perfection, as you called it, at such a young age. This was some 2 years after they started working with the Kami band.
22:45 no, it's even 'worse', the girls were just 11 and 10 and 10 when Babymetal started. The producer of Babymetal 'Kobametal' was politely asked to spot helping rock/electronic bands at the company because of the decline of rock, etc. in Japan (as did also happen in the West). He was asked to work at the kids division. He noticed Su-metal's talent and said: she has a loud singing style, maybe it could fit with the loud music I love. The company would not fund it but he found a way to work with her and Yuimetal and Moametal without having it needing a financial investment for the company, so he was allowed to do it as a sort of hobby project.
Babymetal had to build up a fan base and get enough funding on their own to eventually afford such a band to back them. All they had were backing tracks the first couple of years. And the guys in the back you saw with Gimme Chocolate were just actors doing playback.
Babymetal is magic, it's unique, it's a one time thing in the history of the world.
Babymetal isn't a pop group even though they had roots in that and do a fusion of pop vocals and metal, they are closer to a band.
If you really do want to go back to the beginning, I would suggest to go with the Doki Doki Morning MV. Which is the first video they released. And then maybe follow it up with the upscaled video:
60fps conversion - BABYMETAL - DEBUT - Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 - Doki Doki Morning
    Which came before the MV.
Some timeline: they started in 2010, recorded a MV in 2011 and released it in 2012. The first album was in 2014.
Road of Resistance was a song released in between the first and second album.
If you are gonna do all suggestions, you'll have to do all songs. 🙂

Nice reaction. As others have already stated DragonForce guitarist worked on this song. They have even played with Babymetal a couple of times. A funny thing they said was they intentionally made the guitar parts hard because they thought they would never have to play it. And then they had to when they performed together. Which they said they had to practice for a week to get it right. Herman Li still follows Babymetal and has done reactions to their songs. Yup he's a fan. As for how this happened. I would say it's Babymetal magic. All part of the this shouldn't work but does category. Started so young, too young for some to do metal. But they did. No body dances to metal but they do. Amazing clean vocals in metal. But they do. Their magical list of accomplishments goes on and on. If you read things like goddess, queen, angels, not from this planet. It's because of all these things added together. And if you just read about them and never heard them you would think it's a myth, a Hollywood movie, made up a magazine article, a fake podcast story. Until seeing is believing. They do exist. These three are real. Sadly, now just two. But that too becomes part of the legend. It would have been so easy to end Babymetal when Yui left. Su and Moa decided to stay together. Rob Halford told them to stay metal. And they did. Now on the verge of releasing their fourth album in March and have already released two songs from the album. Babymetal is ready to write a new myth. The next era of Babymetal. The first two albums are the classic era. The 3rd album is the end of childhood for them as they entered their 20's. Now the new era of the Mature Kawaii Metal begins. Where will they take us? The fourth album is a tour of the metalverses. 10 songs each representing a different type of metal. But hey it's not Babymetal if it was just one at a time. As always, their songs are a mix of genres. And so far, that tradition has continued on the two songs they released. Divine Attack and Monochrome. Babymetal is due to perform live at the end of this month. If your internet goes down. You know what happened. Babymetal magic broke it. lol

How did Su, the girls, get to be that good, that composed on a huge stage that young ... part of it is talent, a lot of it is pure hard work, they paid their dues, in Su's case; ASH (Actor's School Hiroshima), Musical Theatre, Sakura Gakuin.
Yui mentioned in an interview that this is one of her/their favorite song because it's really is a culmination of what they have gone through as a band - there were quite a few 'resistance' in their journey as a band, a metal one at that, a genre none of them were familiar with, a genre with some pretty strong stereotypes.
Definitely see their other songs, Megitsune (live and music video), Papaya, BxMxC, Catch Me if You Can, Rondo of Nightmare (Su solo), Onedari Daisasuken (Yui and Moa), Awadama Fever, there tons ...
and when you want to delve deeper still, go check out their pre-Babymetal stuff, you get to see and appreciate all the hard work they've put into their passion (idol industry) and you see just how magical it really is, all the stars basically alligned for this to happen

  • @Icipher353
    @Icipher353 Рік тому +4

You were of course correct about the guitar work being reminiscent of Dragonforce, because the guitar parts on RoR are written and peformed on the album by Herman Li and Sam Totman. Herman said that when he wrote the guitar part for this song that he never expected to have to perform it live, so he just went hog wild and made it as technical as possible. Of course, the joke is on him because Dragonforce subsequently performed this song with Babymetal on several occasions and he had to try to remember how to play it
Dargonforce have been one of Babymetal's long time supporters in the metal scene, especially in the early days when the copped a lot of unfair criticism from the metal elitist crowd, and have helped nudge them along the path to success on several occasions. After their legendary performance at Sonisphere 2014 in England, there was a fan campaign to have them play at Download Festival, which is the biggest metal festival in England, but the promoter of the event said, "There is a time and place for Babymetal. Each to their own, but Download is not it.", indicating that he did not want them at his event. Dragonforce however had other ideas, and snuck them into the event and gave up some of the time in their set so that Babymetal could perform Gimme Chocolate (with Dragonforce as their backing band) (link - ua-cam.com/video/0vNbnGwoaag/v-deo.html). They got such a strong positive reception from the crowd that the promoter caved and invited them to perform properly the next year, which they did at the infamous Drownload 2016, to great acclaim.
Dragonforce also came through for Babymetal at the 2015 Metal Hammer Awards. Babymetal were nominated for the Breakthrough Award and were set to perform, but their management company Amuse would not pay to send the Kami band to America with them to perform just a couple of songs at an award show, so it looked like they would have to perform with just a backing track. Dragonforce stepped in an volunteered to play as Babymetal's backing band for the performance so that they would have a full live performance (Link - ua-cam.com/video/roE854jj8hA/v-deo.html).

Occasionally something went wrong (maybe one girl did the part of the routine wrong, or there was an accident) and the other girl would seamlessly adapt to cover. There are many examples that can be seen on UA-cam (Yui going wrong in Meta Taro and Moa immediately did the same thing to match, when Riho rolled her ankle on the US tour and stumbled - Moa instantly adapted her routine and made the stumble Riho did look like a dip in her routine and Su can be seen closely watching Riho for the rest of the song to make sure she was okay)

How Babymetal formed. Su-metal was in a group that performed songs for an anime. The group was called Karen Girl's. producer Kei Kobayashi. aka Kobametal, saw them perform, and was impressed by Su's powerful vocals and unique stage presence. Su was 10 or 11 at the time. Koba dreamed up the concept of Su performing metal flanked by twin girls, ( almost like shobijin, twin faeries out of Japanese folk tales). After Karen Girl's disbanded, Koba worked with another group, Sakura Gakuin, in which Su was a member. He then recruited Yui and Moa, based partially on their small stature, and how similar their voices and looks were, and you have Babymetal. Koba picked metal for Su because he felt her voice should be unlimited, and metal was a genre without limits. The whole thing was built around Su's voice.
A side note on shobijin, the most well known in the west would be the Mothra Faeries, portrayed by Yumi and Emi Ito in the first three movies; who were twins and who also formed the Idol group The Peanuts. The Peanuts were early idols and pioneered a lot of what is now staple in Idol music.

The band returns to live shows at the end of the month in Japan after a long hiatus, so they've had their rest and now they're ready to Hedoban again. It's going to be interesting to see how they present themselves now that they're both in their 20's. One of the questions is will they add a third member for the live shows like they did with the Avengers, or will they continue as a duo? The two songs they've released so far from the upcoming new album have a much more mature sound to them, still very heavy but with no trace's of Kawaii. We're about to enter a new era of Babymetal and it's going to be fascinating to see what they have planned going forward 🦊🤘

Three songs in and you're already mad Yui left. Definitely a new fan! And at the end she's shouting "WE ARE BABYMETAL!" My suggestion for the next song is Catch Me If You Can. It's ultra hard metal with very fun choreo. It's the best example of the juxtaposition of the two elements of the group.

Really great reaction! Road of Resistance was of course, co-written with the two DragonForce guitarists. Well spotted!
I would agree that RoR is probably the best BABYMETAL song.... certainly this performance anyway. Very close runners up would be Arkadia and Syncopation imo. Check them out if you haven't already! That was a 20K crowd...just a medium sized BABYMETAL gig! lol

Hi TYLR, Happy New Year! You see what I mean now when I said she's the Morissette of Japan now right?
To answer your question how they were formed. The whole band was created around Su. One of her teachers at her acting/singing school (Sakura Gakuin) is a huge fan of metal and had an idea he had in his head of fusing metal and JPop. When he heard Su singing he immediately knew he found his singer for his experiment. So everything was formed around her.
In terms of their best songs, this isn't my favorite, but it is one of their best. In terms of heavy. Babymetal Death! is actually quite a bit heavier. However, like I mentioned before, before Babymetal Death! I'd recommend listening to the trilogy in order, so you've seen Headbanger, next up would be Akatsuki Unfinished. And yes Moa DOES sing. Look for Moabanger. It's easier to find the video you want like that, but to make things easier for you, here you go, this is Moabanger ua-cam.com/video/MToMx6RCW-M/v-deo.html

Another reactor called her a stage General, because she has command of that audience. At the beginning of the song, it has that Call to Arms sound to it like DragonForce. Suzuka, at the beginning of the song, called for a wall of death, and the audience did it. The audience will do anything she asks; That's why they call her the queen, the queen of heavy metal.

Good reaction. Indeed the influence of Dragon Force is total since they made the guitar arrangements for the song. The relationship between DF and Babymetal dates back to 2015, but to understand it you have to go back another year. In 2014 they began their first tour outside of Asia (thanks to the enormous success of Gimme Chocolate on the internet) and faced their first western festival: the Sonisphere in England (well, like that, without anesthesia... what better way to start the international adventure that in one of the most difficult scenarios of western heavy metal?). the success was brutal and it is probable that today you know them thanks to that concert. Although he had almost total recognition from Western metal groups and industry, the festival promoter Download stated that Babymetal would never play at his festival. And indeed in 2015 he vetoed them. Dragon Force invited them up on stage during their show and they played Gimme Chocolate.

It's from their third album and is a more recent song, you'll get to see a more mature BABYMETAL, unfortunately without Yui (replacements swap in during shows)
It's a great example of their ability to take influence from other cultures and genres and blend it into their sound. The girls also study and perform indian inspired choreography and it's incredible to see

When a goddess walks amongst us :) She has more stage and crowd control in her little finger than most performers can manage in their entire lives. All three are trained dancers, singers, actresses and models and started young (Su was 6). Their existence is due to Key Kobayashi, better known by his pseudonym Kobametal, is a Japanese music producer under the talent agency Amuse, Inc which all 3 girls belonged to. He saw Su at 11 in her previous group Karen Girl's and thought even then she would be perfect for metal. When Amuse formed an Idol Group called Sakura Gakuin (meaning Cherry Blossom Academy) was a Japanese idol group created in April of 2010 with 8 members (though would go up to 12). Comprised of female elementary school students and middle school students (11-15) selected from Amuse Kids with a theme of school life - including club activities.
BABYMETAL was one of these clubs (others were things like baton twirling, a newspaper club, cooking club, etc - all excuses for smaller groups of the girls to perform different styles /routines). SG lasted 10 years with girls "graduating" out and new younger ones coming in. Koba suggested the idea of a heavy metal music club which is where BABYMETAL get their name as 'Heavy Metal' and 'Baby Metal' have the tiniest different in writing in Japanese. You can actually see one (if not the first) BM performances on UA-cam as part of an SG concert - as 13 and 11 year olds!.
When Suzuka graduated instead of rotating in a new girl (as the other clubs did) Koba persuaded Amuse to spin off BM and so while still in SG for another 2 years Yui and Moa also started to perform as BM outside of SG (they were still only performing small gigs mostly in Japan and Asia). When Yui and Moa graduated SG - BABYMETAL continued , grew and toured with their big break being considered their performance on the main stage at the UK metal festival Sonisphere in 2014 and literally blew everyone away (again this whole show is on UA-cam).

Su was born in 1997, this was in 2015, so she was 17 at the time! But she already was here when she performed in her previous group, "Karen Girls", at the age of 10, singing anime songs in front of 20k people without a care in the world 😄

7:09 _Now Pizza Time! (Pizza Time!)_ 🦊🤘🍕
Thanks for coming back with more BM songs, those are their flags leading us to previous chapter called Metal Resistance, now our girls are already facing a new era closing a successful battle.
_Road Of Resistance_ is a power/speed metal song, is one of their most epic anthem and got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce (thanks Guitar Hero lol). Is all about facing your own path without looking back.
The wall of death is insane just like you noticed, is also called "mosh'sh pit", different from usual mosh pit because this one is safe to participate if you fall everyone will stop until you get up and get ready to keep going with the fun ride.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015 (a series of three large live concerts), live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena, by this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan, and 20K souls witnessed this epic moment.
With only 15 and 17 years old this moment will be forever remember when they performing this song to reminds them all the support they got from their fans no matter where they go, either a small or big stages.
The Kami Band here are mind blowing set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (specially the guitarists), all of them are males.
    They are:
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums.
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly past away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
This group and everyone around involved on this project are caretaking professionally every single little detail to put a high quality top notch live show so you can have the best experience you ever had, that's another reason to appreciate the amount of love they put on the show, wether is big or small stage, the energy from these girls will still be there.
At the end of the show they always say _"We are! BabyMetal!"_ along with the crowd, that's another line borrowed to X-Japan live concerts, it's a moment to make the crowd feel part of the show because they certainly are.
See you next time and put your kitsune up! 🦊🤘🔥

Their producer, Key Kobayashi (aka Kobametal), is the one who came up with the j-op/metal fusion concept and brought all of the elements together, with Su-metal at the center. After you've seen a few more important performances you'll probably really enjoy reacting to CrypticMisery's 40 minute-ish Guide to Babymetal. it goes over a lot of the elements of how Babymetal came to be.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴
"Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance)
Pretty much a master class in audience control.
BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song.
You can definitely feel the speed metal in this one though.
Although they didn't write the song, Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce provided guitar tracks for the studio version.
This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in January of 2015, with a sold out crowd of over 20,000.
BABYMETAL's lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto first appeared at SSA in 2008 as a member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old.
She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL.
Guitarists that night were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus. The bassist was BOH, and the drummer was Hideki Aoyama.
Hideki's father and brother were also drummers, so it's kind of in his blood.
BTW, they are saying "We are…", "BABYMETAL!" at the end, followed by 'See you!"."

The Yui situation is what it is and was in part due to her heath issues. Along with some differences of career goals. Although more so "a strong desire to pursue her dream."
"To stand on a stage as Yui Mizuno" her words!" She then closed out her statement stating: "She had hoped to see you all as Yui Mizuno one day." "Thank you for 8 years of support!!" Take that for what it's worth.
However, in no way was it a bad parting as Yui is still highly supportive of Babymetal. After losing Mikio Fujioka to a tragic balcony accident in 2019. It was difficult for Yui as it was for Babymetal.
    ______________________________________________
Yui loves to star gaze & this is exactly how Mikio Fujioka died. So that may have weighed heavily on her. He was a genius & a big part of who they were at the time.
However, I think it really brought Su-Metal & Moa closer together. They sound f** brilliant now & recent singles Devine Attack-Shingeki.
Along with Monochrome are complete bangers!! 2023 tour starts on January 28 & 29. At Tokyo International Exhibition Hall.
This is followed by joining Sabaton in April on his European tour. I also recommend Rondo of Nightmare Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro. ( Budokan Live Black Night)
    ________________________________________________
Su-Metal was 16 in that performance & already so damn good!! Su just celebrated her 25 birthday in December. Along with their officially 10th anniversary as of 2023.
Although technically, their 13th as SummerSonic was where they debuted. Which was at the old age of 12 lol. No wonder they are so damn good now!! Good reaction BTW, it's cool to see reactions from industry insiders.

BABYMETAL is a different band with only two vocalists and a "god band" in the background.

Excellent reaction, very good at capturing subtle but important details, their stage presence, physical strength/endurance and crowd control/interaction are unreal. People keep saying it's once in a lifetime experience to be lucky to attend their live performance.
You may want to respond to the jaw dropping "the one" (ua-cam.com/video/TZRvO0S-TLU/v-deo.html).

So before you get to this vid, I feel it's only fair to give you a heads up about Babymetal - Death, since I think I remember you mentioning that you're Christian. That one does feature a cross, but it's used really as a death/rebirth imagery rather than necessarily invoking Christianity itself. But I know that it can really upset some Christian ppl so I wanted you to know ahead of time.

Well done!!! Well, it seems that you didn't have to blur because you did pause several times. 🙂 Anyway, BABYMETAL has a bit over fifty songs and I have little doubt you'll be taking in ALL of them!
I sure hope you do "Doki Doki Morning"; I think you'll be wowed by the contrast between it and "Road of Resistance". And if you really want to see the Kami Band shine, I suggest reacting to "Catch Me If You Can", the Budokan Black Night version ( ua-cam.com/video/ZPYimKmxW0g/v-deo.html ). Boh on Bass will knock your socks off!!!
    WE ARE . . . BABYMETAL!!!
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
