    Regarding vision, I'm a week away from 66 and had cataract operations on both eyes in 2015. As a result I need reading glasses, I have ones with an extended focal range that extends to the length of my arms making desktop computer screen use much more pleasant.

      That’s normal your crystalline starts to lose flexibility when you are 42 so at 66 is normal that having it a bit further away if you have a - prescription will feel more confortable

    Another advantage of the VESA mount is it makes it easier to access the three USB-C ports. My VESA mount is on the side/end of the desk so the back of my desk is up against the wall.

      Definitely easier to do that or even to use the screen as something else like a tv or what so ever

    is 5k 120hz even possible, or does any brand produce such fps on the market currently?

    I think the sharpness and contrast is also better with the “normal” coating

    • @MADpack
      @MADpack  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes also that because you loose a lot of the brightness of the screen

    • @akyhne
      @akyhne Місяць тому +1

      The sharpness is better on the glossy. The contrast and brightness, is more or less the same. But you need a dark environment, to use the glossy. Most people should buy the matte one.

      @akyhne or depends in all of us but how many done use there computer next to a window or can control the light hitting there screen?

    • @akyhne
      @akyhne Місяць тому

      @MADpack There's a very simple way to test, how much the ambient light will affect your screen. Under any condition.
      Turn off your PC/Mac, so that the monitor turns off or go into sleep mode. Place yourself, in the exact position, you would sit, while working on the computer.Test under various light conditions, how much the screen works as a mirror (reflects what surrounds you).
      The exact image/light that you can see, when the monitor is turned off, will be "added" to the screen as a reflection, when you turn on the computer. It's kind of like when you see a person with glasses, with no anti-reflection treatment, and you see ambient light, shining on the glasses. Sometimes you can't even see the person's eyes.
      Even if you sit in a total dark room, with a pink t-shirt and the computer is on, if your display shows a web page with a lot of white and the brightness on the monitor is cranked up, the light from the screen will lit up your t-shirt, and the reflections of the shirt will go back into the screen. It will miscolor your perception of what you see on the screen.
      Reflections don't magically dissapear, just because you turn on the monitor. They will always be there.

    Thanks for the video.. to be honest I was considering the height and tilt vs just tilt.. and never even considered this VESA mount adapter until I watched your video. Is it really that big of a difference? And if so can I ask you which mount you used. Also, sounds like you struck a great deal at John Lewis was this in shop or online 😅 trying to see if I could get just as lucky on a deal… do you think we might get some deals on Black Friday?

    Fantastic review. Do you actually produce with the speakers? I heard great things about them. I am really considering the display with perhaps a pair of 8010s or 8020s for my turntables and scratching in the future.

    The webcam is dreadful, true. I use an Insta360 Link 4k webcam instead which was rather expensive. There are cheaper Insta360 Link 2 and 2C webcams available now that are worth investigation.

    Is that the setup you are using to edit videos? I mean, both the place and the dark environment?
    In that case, a glossy display is the right choice. But it's not the right choice, if you sit in a bright room, in daytime.
    I am asuming, you only edit videos for your channel, because your purple lights is a horrible choilce, for any color critical work. Photo or video. It will affect your perception of the colors, you see on the screen.
    If you always sit in that of a dark environment, your monitor should not be too bright. Let me give you an example. A professional color grader, grades at 100 nits max. brightness in a dark room. The Studio Display can go to 600 nits, so that would be a total overkill, for a color grading monitor. If you Want that much light that you have in your video, I'd have the monitor calibrated to 110-120 nits. If I remember correctly, the HDTV setting on your TV, sets the max. output to 80 nits. That's too dark, but you can test it, just to see how dark that really is. I think the HDTV setting, is the right one, for Rec.709 grading, but refer to the manual.
    As for calibration, any monitor needs to be calibrated, if you are doing any kind of entusiast level to semi pro color correction. Both for video editing, and video color grading. I know Apple said, this monitor (and the XDR) doesn't need calibration, but that's simply not correct. And if you go to their support page for the display, they clarify, that for office and casual usage, you don't need to calibrate.
    The fact that you mention, you sometimes have to turn down the brightness, tells me that you are having the monitor way too bright. Web pages are also made by professionals, that work on calibrated monitors, and on monitors that are set to not output more than x amount of nits. I don't know the exact rules for graphic designers, I think it's around 120-140 nits, but I could be wrong. Anyways, it's in that area. So, if you turn up the brightness to 80-90% in that dark room, you are over cooking the colors.
    The Studio Display, is a great all-rounder monitor. But it's not really good, like high end good at anything. There are better choices out there, if you mainly do photo work, and other better choices, if you do video color grading.

      @hawaiifreespeechnews I don’t think is going to happen any time soon if you think how slow they took to change the iMac 27inch. Since a monitor is an accessory for the Mac and you have a 5k and a 6k option I don’t think is going to happen any time soon
