The difference between Sixaxis and DualShock 3 is that the Sixaxis did not have any rumble feedback due to an ongoing legal battle with Immersion. Once the lawsuit was settled in 2007, Sony introduced the DualShock 3 with rumble.
@@TheChillStart really don't know what happened back then, but the first time I heard about no rumble 8n Sixaxis Controllers was 50 Facts about the Playstation 3 from Mystic.
I'm not 100% sure, but i thought the 2nd difference was that the 1st model also had a giro-sensor built in. And the dualshock didn't. I know for sure the 1st have this feature bc i own one. Nice. Back in the day when the PS3 got released I was fortunate enough to get 2 PS3 60 gig and 1 PS3 80 gig all backwards compatible. I still have one untouched in the box in my closet and the other 60 and 80 gig models I upgraded the hard drive to 750 gigs and they both still work absolutely fantastic. My opinion the original PS3 system was one of the best consoles. The only problem that I have encountered is it is a dust magnet. But there are some things you can do to help that.
I'm honestly shocked that your PS3's CPU fan did not take off! Because a console at that age is sure to have crusty old thermal compound on the CPU right now 😅👍
The thermal paste depends on how much the console was used. The more usage the more the thermal paste over time gets hard and crusty like. I know cuz I replaced the paste for one I got from whatnot. Boy that stuff was nasty and cruddy. Hardly any dust inside thank goodness. I am not tech expert, but have enough skills and experience.
Yes, I have a ps3 80gb that I got off of eBay in December of last year and I ended up bidding for it for $210.00 and I think it was worth it because it was in mint condition and it runs smoothly for hours and yes, I still play it. I personally think it is the greatest console of all time because of the looks, features, and games. You’ve earned a sub.
My very first ps3. Man I loved this thing. Mine had the rlod after 4 years. I wish I had held on to it and had just swapped the motherboard or something to keep the backwards compatibility. Not long after that happened I traded it in to gamestop for $100 of my ps4 preorder. My ps4 is still running after 7 years. I now have the super slim ps3 that I bought from mercari not too long ago. The ps3 games are really cheap which is why I bought it. I loved the ps3 era.
This was my first PS3 i had as well I got it when i was 3 years old but it only lasted about 2 or 3 years. I have no idea how it got to my country though because I live in the UK and this model was only in America I think but not fully sure. I still have mine somewhere I might try and fix it one day but for now I’m happy with my jailbroken slim that I’ve had since this one broke
You are indeed correct, It’s backwards compatible via partial emulation. The CECHA01 is the model that is full backwards compatible. By having the emotion engine chip. The other ones that are not the 60gb model have the cell broadband engine chip.
The Slots under the Front Flap are compact Flash, SD card, memory stick, memory stick Pro, and you can also use micro sds with an adapter. Truly Excellent Console.
I still have this myself. My box is much more in better condition and it does have all the manual and ads inside. As soon as I opened it back in 2007, I placed the packaging in my closet never to be touched again. It is still there as we speak lol. I really missed the feeling of getting this kind of console because I believe this was the last time we associated Sony with HiFi purchase. For those that are too young, Sony used to be known as quality purchase. Looking at the 1st Gen PS3, you can absolutely tell the Professional look to it.
CF is compact flash and is mostly used on high end cameras (or used to be). CF Express has since replaced it on new cameras. Very strange decision to put those card readers on a video game console. But then again Sony was marketing the PS3 as a multimedia device at the time.
They put the slot there so people can share photo from the PlayStation 3 because sony also make Cameras and playstation 3 has abylity to open a web browser
I still have my PS3. I dug it out a few weeks ago after being in storage for the last 13 years! I have since then bought over 40 of the best rated PS3 games (from both the standpoint of graphical quality and from gameplay perspective) and also I have bought a few of the PS2 / PS1 games! Loving it! I have put a cheap 1tb SSD inside now to replace the 60Gb that was in there. I think I will take it apart and repaste the CPU/GPU to help with longevity. I am considering jailbreaking it so that I can copy all of the games to the SSD and not wear out the blueray drive (as that's a main component that's prone to fail over time). I think the one thing that's a little disappointing though is that most PS3 games are 720p or even lower. It looks rather jagged when displayed on my 1080p monitor. It has been so long since I used the console, I think I had nostalgic memories about how good the games looked. I guess I have been spoiled by PC gaming since then.
I just got one dirt cheap, it was used and very dirty on the inside. Spent countless hours brushing every spot clean, changed the paste and replaced the lens tray for the disc drive. Now it runs butter smooth, looks amazing and plays all of my PS2 games - there's no other feeling like that!
Sounds you like you know your stuff. My controller won't sync sometimes when i boot up ps2 games even after "resetting" controller with the little button in the back. But sometimes it will almost like roll of the dice🤣controllers are new and Sony. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 👍
Beautiful system, and clean! Looks like a great buy. I still have a BC PS3 and I barely play it anymore as I don’t want it to burn out, but yeah, awesome option to have! Great vid!
If you have soldering skills, buy tantalum capacitors and swap the NEC/TOKIN capacitors out. Then have fun, your PS3 is now most likely immune to the YLOD. (You have 8 NEC/TOKIN caps in your system. You need 32 Tantalum caps, because you need 4 Tantalum ones to swap 1 NEC/TOKIN)
I unboxed my 2015 PS3 Slim a few months ago just because i wanted to play God of War. Got to play the Whole saga Except GOW 4. I still can't believe I didn't got God Of War 3 for PS4. I still have time and in the Future i can even play it on a PS5.
Owned my ps3 since August of '08 an 80gb model that came with MGS4 and really enjoyed it and over the years started to collect games for it and really liked the games that came on this system compared to the Xbox 360. I suffered the yellow light of death once back in 2012 because of leaving the system on for hours and hours due to downloading demos from the PS store. From there on upgraded the HDD to an SSHD 1tb and never had that issue again since then. Recently been playing some games like RAGE, Lair, Haze, Heavenly Sword, Gran Turismo 5 and 6, and Asura's Wrath and I got 2 cabinets filled with the games over the years and some hidden gems that are now worth a pretty penny.
Glad you have a great working PS3. I still have my PS3 (80 gig Backwards compatible PS1,2,3 from back in 2006) and it works beautifully still (knock on wood). Back in the day, these 80 gigs ran for 600$ new. I do believe I got mine before the "limited edition", but I would have loved to get this one because motor storm was the game to get back in the day, this game needs a remake for PS5 badly. Last but not least, and I'm not exactly 100% sure about this, but, Sony first made the PS3 with the built-in physical emulator chip to play PS1, PS2. After the console was out for a while, they decided to manufacture the PS3 to be backwards compatible but with software only. I heard this change was made as a way to kinda save money, and because the actual chip was hard to update the software with, because there were some issues playing some PS1, PS2 games that I do believe they fixed with an update. However, I was never quite able to play Hitman blood money with mine, it seemed to freeze all the time at a certain level, and so I never played it again, but still have it lol. Anyways, enjoy, it's a great system to have.
Yea, PS3 at first had WHOLE PS2 crammed inside, on PCB. Literally. Next revisions had some parts of PS2 removed and those were emulated by software. Next, PS3s had PS2 compatibility removed by removing last bits of PS2 hardware. Putting PS2 HW inside was more convenient for Sony, as they did not want to do any SW PS2 emulation for some reason. PS1 compatibility is done by software emulation.
@@MaxwellsUnearthly It probably can - worth looking into, or sell it for spares and repairs. Better than throwing away something which might be fixable.

20gb model is rare, 40gb then 60gb and then 80gb some countries got a 120gb model of the fat. But is pretty much the 80gb model with a 120gb hdd upgrade.
Unlucky Chris. Just been and dusted mine. I have 3 of the sixaxis controllers too although 2 of them need new batteries. Problem is I don’t have any discs anymore, ps1,2 or 3, to play ha ha ha.

The CECHExx didn't come with a dualshock originally. Dualshock 3 didnt come out until like 2009. Also I don't think lacking the emotion engine actually added any reliability. I have 3 backward compatible systems, and the only one that doesn't work properly is the 80gb unit.
I was going to go back from the start and count how many times you said the phrase "mirror finish" throughout the whole video, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it ;)

The thermal paste on top and underneath the heat spreaders should be changed or this PS3 will soon be another casualty. NSC mods has good info on how to do that.
I still do this on mine every now and then and until this day it is still working fine. Never had YLOD or anything of the sort. Working perfect. I’ve had mine since launch.
I used to have a 60 GB model, that was my very first ever console and I gave it to my sisterbecause she specifically wanted mine. It ended up getting fried from a short circuit but later down the line I picked up the god of war deluxe edition which was a super slim model 500 GB. That one still works, it's a bit dusty but it works like it did day 1. I'm never giving it up because I grew up on ps3 and in my opinion the best game library of any system.

Even though the warranty sticker hasn't been messed with and the console is pretty clean I would still recommend opening the system up and applying new thermal paste. The console is almost 15 years old I know that factory thermal paste is completely dried up by now, better do it now before it comes back to bite you, its very simple and the console isn't under warranty anymore anyway, its just a sticker. I also upgraded my hard drive to 500gb, so if its gonna be the console to run all ps1, ps2, and ps3 games you own I would highly recommend upgrading the hard drive as well.
I have a 60 GB PS3. It's still running strong, but I had to replace the power supply, that failed a couple of years ago. It has better compatibility than your 80GB model, but it still had PS2 games that would crash.
The barcode corner of the box was cut off because during that time (circa 2007), Sony was offering 5 free blu-ray movies if you provide proof of purchase of a blu-ray player, and the PS3 was considered one. I'd know because I did the same, and still have my original CECHE01 model in original condition :)
I have the 60gb original PS3 launch console I purchased on day one, never had an issue and has very little play time, I also applied new thermal paste a few months ago. The console has always been dust free and was very well taking care of and is like brand new in and out. The console you're showing is far from pristine at least from the videos. If you're interested in buying it from me, I also have a ton of games that I collected and not have played more than a few hours some just a couple of minutes as I usually just collect them. Let me know. Console is adult owned, and I was the only one who used it.
CECHE emulates the Emotion Engine (PS2's cpu) but has the Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's gpu) in hardware. CECHA and CECHB have both the EE and the GS in hardware.
It's easy to prevent the YLOD problem. You have to renew the cooling paste on the gpu and cpu. Otherwise there could be a chance the NEC Tokin capacitors will melt over time. If you're ps3 is still quiet, u don't have to worry about it (yet).
This is misleading. YLOD is a general error that could be any number of reasons, but generally it's due to the awful 90nm RSX GPU found in the 20gb and 60gb models, the ones ACTUALLY backwards compatible with ps2 titles. future models that originally released with less than 90nm GPUs are NOT backwards compatible (the only exception is an untouched, non-updated 80gb model with 65nm GPU, and even then the 65nm ones are super iffy as far as reliability is concerned). Do a search on the Orbus or whatever it's called. Lots of superstition surrounding YLOD. Don't just reball, recap, modify or drill holes for "better exhaust" in these consoles. Sony knew what they were doing, and the issue always really came in 2 parts: 1. Americans can't take care of their stuff 2. It was new technology at the time, and the backwards compatible PS3 actually cost Sony quite a lot more money to sell each one off than they made by selling each one. Seriously check it out, it's actually pretty crazy. It's not a simple thing cuz it's not a simple solution
I miss my old launch PS3. Thing had a YLOD and got repaired more times than I can remember. Eventually just died completely. I spent most of my childhood on that console, loved it
@@Andre217 changing the capacitors has a 50-50 chance of working, but unfortunately now we are seeing lots of gpu failures on them because of nvidias crappy gpu underfill. So as of right now there is no good way to repair the ylod on early fat ps3s.
A quiet PS3 like this one is actually bad when it's on official firmware since u can't tell how hot the console itself runs because of the low fan speed. Just 10-13% higher makes a huge difference in temperatures and it's still not very loud or annoying.
The memory card slots on that model are CompactFlash(CF - used on early DSLR cameras before SD went mainstream), SD, and Sony’s MemoryStick, which is what the PSP used.
Uhh the compact flash is still widely used even on newer style dslr cameras hence the reason you can find 128gb cards even found a 512gb once. Reason being is because they are faster than the SD version oddly enough.
@@rockl79 Im well aware of this. You can still buy brand new camras that use the CF cards though. Just not as common though but ptofessionals use the cf format more as you get better read and write speeds on the fly.

The ps3 still feels new to me. I still have all my consoles from the atari 2600 until today. They all work, I've never stopped using them. I had no idea things as new as the ps3 were rare.
In Europe 60gb model is basically exactly same as this model but harddrive is smaller. I found one for 120€ couple years ago with original controller in very good shape but unfortunately not in original box
Nice PS3 video and great job on it too! I still have a backwards compatible PS3 myself as well which is the original 60 GB model. I've had it now for over four years already since I got it off of Amazon back in 2018 and it still works fine so far too for the time being since I haven't had the YLOD or anything on it yet which is really great since I've been pretty lucky so far. I also like how you tested out both "Crash Bash" for PS1 and "Grand Theft Auto III" for PS2 on the backwards compatible PS3 in this video since those are also two of my favorite games. I even have "MotorStorm" for PS3 as well which is also one of my favorite PS3 games, and it was actually the very first PS3 game I ever played when I first got into the PS3 many years ago. In fact, I actually picked up the 80 GB MotorStorm bundle way back in 2008 which included the 80 GB PS3 itself which was also backwards compatible with PS2 games even though it ran on software emulation, plus the "MotorStorm" game itself which I still have. Unfortunately, though, my 80 GB PS3 stopped working many years ago since it wouldn't read any of the game discs that I would insert into the console even though it still powers on and off fine since it never got the YLOD. I now have two working PS3 systems so far which are the 60 GB backwards compatible model that I just got from Amazon back in 2018, and I also have an old 160 GB PS3 Slim model which I actually got way back in 2011, and I use that as my main PS3 even though it's not backwards compatible with PS2 game discs.
I got one from my gamestop back in 2016. Guy turned his in to get a ps4 and I bought it for 140. Guy barely used it. I put a 2tb ssd and it runs flawlessly
I got one just like that for less than half the price you paid. No box, controller, or cables but same with minor scratches and bc and everything. Cf is compact flash. My ps3 came with pga masters in the disc drive.
I am pretty sure that the "limited edition" on the box was just referring to the game itself not the console. The reasoning is because it is the NOT FOR RESALE version. Also the whole six axis controller came about because Duelshock so it's own company and the license to Sony ran out. They eventually made a new deal because customers didn't like the six axis so the Duelshock 3 was born.
I've got 2 fat PS3 models. I have this model ..I got it for £60 and in excellent condition like yours. I didn't know it was that model until I bought it and the guy didn't know how rare it was. Came with a few games, remote control and a controller...bargain at £60. I've still got my 80Gb Fat model too but I added a 500Gb HD to it. I need to update the thermal paste on them actually.. Great buy mate and very nice condition too.
The unfortunate part is even after being repasted these models still run very hot. To fix this you need to do an extremely risky process called delidding, which if done correctly can bring the temps down by up to 20C. It helps with the fan noise a ton as well.
It may have 4 ports and still not be BC model. What you should look at is the colour of frame around disc tray, if it's silver it's BC one, if black it may be software based BC (or no bc at all), both of them though actually can't play ps2 and ps1 games...
as much as you want to keep it sealed with the warranty sticker. You wont do it any favors, open her up and repaste her. add the fan temp mod to keep it steady. DOPE, I have to money to have bought this exact system but passed. Good gamble!

Make sure to replace thermal paste and maybe consider installing a new powerful and efficient fan if u dont wanna get ylod

@@Badar2310 you'll need custom firmware for that basically jailbreaking it but don't know how to do it personally

The greatest console ever made ,still have mine. Still works 60 gig version

@@ineedandrenaline In terms of sales yes, but it comes down to what you enjoyed most.
CF is compact flash and is mostly used on high end cameras (or used to be). CF Express has since replaced it on new cameras. Very strange decision to put those card readers on a video game console. But then again Sony was marketing the PS3 as a multimedia device at the time.
it was actually common to be used for mini PCs
I don't care about resolution as long as a game plays well, but if you don't like 720p you really won't want to play those PS2 / PS1 games 😄

Dude so crazy, I just whipped out my PS3 and played RDR1 and now your unboxing one, such a coincidence

You’re right, CECHA01 (60GB) & BO1 (20GB) have PS2 hardware. CECHEO1 & CO1 have PS3 emulator software.

The barcode corner of the box was cut off because during that time (circa 2007), Sony was offering 5 free blu-ray movies if you provide proof of purchase of a blu-ray player, and the PS3 was considered one. If you're interested in buying it from me, I also have a ton of games that I collected and not have played more than a few hours some just a couple of minutes as I usually just collect them. That's a good price
That’s just the regular version, not backwards compatible.
Great console. My B.C. PS3 that I bought on release still works. I game on it more than my PS4.
Sony knew what they were doing, and the issue always really came in 2 parts:
1. Americans can't take care of their stuff
2. It was new technology at the time, and the backwards compatible PS3 actually cost Sony quite a lot more money to sell each one off than they made by selling each one. Seriously check it out, it's actually pretty crazy. It's not a simple thing cuz it's not a simple solution

The memory card slots on that model are CompactFlash(CF - used on early DSLR cameras before SD went mainstream), SD, and Sony’s MemoryStick, which is what the PSP used.

i think this ones plays ps2 hardware as well,, then they included the dual rumble controller is when it was emulation
I am pretty sure that the "limited edition" on the box was just referring to the game itself not the console. The reasoning is because it is the NOT FOR RESALE version. Also the whole six axis controller came about because Duelshock so it's own company and the license to Sony ran out. They eventually made a new deal because customers didn't like the six axis so the Duelshock 3 was born.
amazing gorgeous console😍🔥
Well I was lucky and shocked when I saw a PS3 60gig backwards $120 at my local 2nd n Charles store. You can say I was there at the right time.
The DualShock 3 has rumble, the SixAxis doesn’t.
Ah ok that's whatthe difference was
and sixaxis is the only controller that is original...i have 6 of them better than the p3 monkeys
Remember everyone whos gonna buy this, make sure it has 4 usb slots, if it doesn’t its not backwards compatible
You don't need to do the fan mod if you delid it. The temps come down a ton and the fan noise does as well.
Could you please clear up one thing I wasn't sure about?does it have a mirror finish?wasn't too clear in the video 😅
Haha
That was my first ps3. I loved it, with the backwards compatibility.
