Hey there, I'm a tech at a Goodwill store. Our store actually sells a ton of secondhand donated electronics, and I work on the gaming side. A ton of these consoles arrive in varying levels of condition, and unfortunately they get handled pretty roughly as they get sorted into huge bins of random gaming-related items. These bins are also in a warehouse that sorts clothes, which creates a ton of dust as these giant machines filter them out. It's almost impossible to keep things from becoming incredibly dirty or dusty in storage, because our work area is in the warehouse. Our physical store sells the tested and working consoles, and then untested or for-parts consoles go to the eBay store. A large majority of these consoles and controllers don't get thoroughly cleaned before they go off to eBay. I'd like to get to a point where disassembly and cleaning is standard, with refurbishing where necessary. The volume of donations is so high that this does make that difficult in some instances though. Just wanted to shed some light on how Goodwill operates.
It's OK, you don't overcharge them as some "respected specialized resellers" do. People expect they'll probably have to clean them and refurbish the consoles themselves.
I got my fat PS2 Christmas day 2001 and I've had it ever since, still works just fine. I remember waiting in line in Oct 04 for that sweet sweet release of GTA San Andreas...I'll never forget that day. Had to go to school the next morning but I stayed up until 4am playing that game it was magic lol. Loved War of the Monsters too, anytime I find anything PS2 related at Savers or wherever I buy it so now I have a massive box of ps2 stuff just incase they get sparse in the future
Man, I used to buy fat PS2's from all the thrift stores in town for 5-10 bucks a pop. This was like 5 years ago and I refurbished them and basically gave them away. Now they're worth SO MUCH WTF lol
I always ended up getting my console late in its life the ps2 slim is still my favorite console ever so many memories. I’ve played most great major consoles nothing comes close to that PS2, Xbox, GCN era
i never had the ps2 until the slim released during the mid to late times of the ps2 but its still one of my most favourite systems i lost it but found it in my moms paper shredder a bit dirty but cleaned it up pretty good then i went out and bought a 39001 fat model then got a mostly CIB of the ps2 with the 50000 model
I have to be honest you got a pretty good deal. That internet adaptor for the ps2 fat is sold locally(here where I life) for 66 dollars... That blue ps2 controller also looks nice.
To me , refurbish means "restoring the console in their original release working state as close as possible". Anything less is just cleaning, given that there's no actual action to restore the original functionalities as close as the original time of release ( case in point: a fat ps2 that takes a lot of time to take in the disk. ). So, DKOldies are not "refurbishing", they are just cleaning them in the outside and that's it. When the insides are actually clean, it's because it wasn't that dirty inside from the beginning. When I fixed my ps2, i cleaned it inside with IPA and the plastic shell with soap and water. I gently cleaned the lens and greased the shaft, i changed the clock battery. When I turned it on at the end, it was working perfectly just as if I'd bought it new the day before. THAT'S REFURBISHING!
Here’s a tip the disc tray stutters like that because it needs to be re greased. Flip the console upside down and open the disc tray. With the tray open power off the system using the switch at the back so the tray stays open. You’ll see a metal rail and some plastic teeth. Add a little grease and work the disc tray open and closed the stutter will stop. Your welcome.
Just a Little looking out, but you should look into getting some 99.9%IPA, with the 91% stuff the leftover 9% is water, which normally shouldn’t cause any issues but if you’re paranoid like I am it can prevent any possible issues. It also won’t leave as many smudges when cleaning the plastic parts because some of that leftover water can clump up with the dust when wiping it down
me it is ps2 fat consol, game : GTA vice sity, gta san andreas ,gta3, nfs u1-2 ,nfs carbon, call of duty 1-3 original disk , coling and powerplug swap in consol
I bought two fat ps2 on goodwill for $15 plus $11 shipping untested. I bought them in an attempt to mod one of them, but found one of them was already modded. So I didn't bother modding it. :) From what I can see it said they just turned it on and they were no more testing.
I’m here in response about the network adapter . I am here to confirm that you can still play ps2 games as well as original Xbox games online . Seeing that this video is 10 months old you’re probably well aware of that information already
I bought a ps2 fat a few months ago, came w 1 black controller. The very next day, i saw a ps2 fat in a thrift store for $60 w 2 blue controllers, i bought the set for a friend at work, he paid me back, but i kept the 2 clear blue controllers and gave him the black one 😂
Fun fact you can plug the PS2 into the internet but of course most servers for games are down. I tested it with MK Armageddon not too long ago I believe.
My old PS2 with about 30+ games has been in a plastic tote under a bed for years. Bought it used 15+ years ago and doubt I have more than $50 in the entire thing.
120 is what I remembered off the top of my head, but I went back and checked and it was 170 after shipping and everything. Pretty bad for untested stuff, but considering both consoles work and I got them both cleaned up, they are worth more than 170 combined now
To be fair the ps2 console both the slim and the fat are very reliable, usually dont break down, in the past everything was more reliable than it is now, now you drop a ps5 and it dies, the liquid metal moves and shorts the apu or sometimes the hdmi port snaps, i have seen a lot of people with similar issues, just one drop kills them, try snaping a av cable from a ps2 you cant its almost imposible, in the past everything was very well designed and had good quality, now you see cars or home appliances dying in 3 years from new, and in consoles the switch is the most trash console nintendo has ever made, not only the usb c port has to be used as little as possible and not use while playing but also the controllers break down from 50 different issues such as drift, led sync button and zl,zr board breaking down on their own sometimes even broken out of the box, disconection from the rails... I care about my consoles, keep them clean and never drop them, never had an issue with an official nintendo console and controller except with the switch, with ps and xbox consoles the biggest issues with ps3 and 360 which were the first popular trash consoles, they were built like crap, overheated and die.
I take the art work and books out of the game case and soak and wash with rag in Dawn dish liquid and bleach and wash and rinse the cases also controllers the buttons and shell and ipa on rubber membrains and damp cloth from soap bleach water on cords sticker glue i use charcoal fluid on paper towel
Yeah I’m sure someone could fix it pretty easily if they know what they’re doing. Neither looked to be in terrible condition physically. I just don’t have time to mess around with controllers right now lol
Just to let you know, most PS2 controllers fail if they are the "SCPH-10010 H" variant, as they use a cheaper membrane that fails over time, the A variant controllers are the easiest to fix and are way better.
