When it comes to the tongue vs. purse dilemma - I say at different points in playing try both ways there will be times that going back and forth is the trick to finding what you think is the easiest or best sound. In short and in my words Magic Dick, in an interview said he was too clingy to tonguing. I am approaching intermediate and found myself clinging to pursing too much. I find it rather easy now that i do more tongue blocking is to tongue most of this, whan it comes to the release of the bent 2 to the unbent 1, I will yank my tongue out of the 2 and purse the 1 draw while letting it leak a bit to make it not only sound a bit nastier, my entrenched muscle memory 'bent draw with purse' does not let it bend at all with a slight leak.
Bottom line is lately I am working on making myself tongue more and still use pursing in sticky situations. i like the sound.

you can hear yourself very well in the car playing harmonica. It makes a great practice space for harps.

Any lick or tune you learn can be played on any key. The difference is going to be that it is not at all easy to play the holes right playing along with an 'out of' tune. he other difference is hi-low end bends require a bit different tweek in your bending structure in your mouth. Very hard but not impossible.
If you still only have that G you are blessed with the ability to play right along with songs where the band is keyed to D.
