    Hi Adam! Love the way this lesson swings. Reminds me of another 8 bar tune with a 2/5 turnaround. Nobody knows you when you’re down and out. Thank you for your teachings. Love your playing and your impromptu approach. The truck is cool too.

    Hey Dr. Adam, this is Your ole bud Guitar Charlie from Monroe. This is great. Just the other day one of Tomlin Leckies students,Rex, had a vidio of 8-bar and Rex made Me think new ideas. He played real short staccato like notes. Weve all played Georgia and 5 foot 2 and eyes of blue etc. forever but this is new understanding and insight. Thanx for all You do. Well meet up soon. I just know We will!! 👏👍🎸😎

    Adam I'm from Italy and following many of your teaching with little result. My last name is Gusso and I think your last has Italian origin but had been adapted to American pronunciation into Gussow.
    Now I understand the origin of my harmonica chromosomes. 😂😂🇺🇸 🇮🇹

      Interesting! Actually, the name "Gussow" means "goose" in German. I didn't know there was an Italian version of the name. My grandfather, a Jew, came from the shetel of Pumpian (Pumpenai or Pumpenos) in Lithuania. I have lots of family in Russia: in Kharkov, for example.

      @@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726 hey there Adam! I speak German, and I'm pretty sure Gussow does not mean goose! Goose would be Gans in German. I would say mayb its a regional variety, but german words dont have a w at the end normally.

      @@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726 Not sure who told you that Gussow means goose in German, but that is *completely wrong*. The word "Guss" in German means a variety of things, usually meaning a "cast" (as in "cast iron") or a "deluge" (heavy rain) or a "ladle".

    Are you playing an out-of-the-box B flat or is it a valved, half-valved, power-draw, power-bender or any other such thing, because you just went off the chart? I'm of course impressed (to put it mildly) but if that's how easy you pull off an overblow for otherwise unavailable notes, I think I'll have to go back to playing chromatic. That's so impressive that it seems forever out of reach UNLESS you do some ob lessons? :)

    • @AdamGussow
      @AdamGussow 8 років тому +1

      It's an out-of-the-box Bb. Nothing fancy. I've been overblowing since 1987. I'm not very good at sustaining them, but after almost 30 years of using the technique, I can kick those three OBs in the middle--4, 5, 6--without too much trouble.

    I think that the I - VI - II - V pattern is called a form of "turnaround" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turnaround_(music)) mostly used in jazz. Sometimes, it's confusing because blues players like us use the term turnaround to name the "V - IV - I - (V)" chord pattern that comes at the end of the 12 bar blues structure :P . Excellent lesson by the way, I really enjoyed it and learned new things. Thanks adam :) !

    like Hendrix's taking care of no business or his old friend or maybe it's called my friend. I have so many alternate recordings of this. it's all the same song though I believe. it's a beautiful progression that I practiced little on guitar some years ago and think I will on harp when I can get some good backing tracks or my jam friends step up. Then I can really practice.

      Nope, but I'm glad you like this one. I don't think that most harp guys out there talk through the wide range of blues forms, but if you actually want to play gigs, you need some basic sense of what's going on. Harp players tend, as a group, to go slightly lighter on the music-school stuff, figuring they can just wail over the top. That's not good enough. Here I'm trying to help folks raise their game.

      This is for more advanced players, no question. Every now and then I do a video like that. It's particularly important, I think, because the harmonica tutorial ecosystem is biased towards "Hey beginner, let's have fun!", said with a bright, squeaky, Hey kids! voice. I've made many videos like that. Everybody makes them. But there's a place for communicating what comes later on to those who stick with the instrument and end up in a range of jamming situations.
